US Men's National Team (19 Viewers)

Not sure what's up with Busio. He's on the bench again today and has only started one of the last 5 matches. Last week was a DNP.

I don't ever watch Venezia so no idea how he's been progressing but he seemed decent the last time he played for the Nats. Not that he's old or anything, but at 22, he seems to be falling further and further out of the conversation as guys like Tessmann and Johnny have moved well past him.

I assume that any players that drop out will be covered by MLS/LigaMX players just because the logistics at this point are a bit tight. Guessing maybe Zendejas gets the call for Johnny. Not sure what we'd do if Trusty pulled out. Miles I guess.

Saw that too. And earlier in the season he was a key cog of that Venezia team. This is a long enough run to show they've gone a different direction... wonder what happened.

I think it will also be Miles but it is worth noting that Banks is already flying over for the U20's. They could just as easily divert him to the main team.

The replacement for Johnny will either be Zendejas or Paxten I think.
Unfortunately, the U20s are playing in Spain.

oh for some reason I thought they were playing in Costa Rica.....maybe that is the U17's.....

I think that's right.

The U20s are playing Mexico and Japan in Spain. We seem to have every other camp in Spain. We were able to call a really strong roster and about half of it is in Europe so I guess it makes sense. It seems like the Kochens, Banks, and Wynders of the world skip whenever it is in America because they are fighting for playing time and this is a good opportunity to train up. The long travel results in missing all the club training.

If we assume that England are going to get the 5th Champions League spot for next season (they are in a dominant position now to get it easily), then Fulham are only 3 points out of a Champions League spot.

Tessmann was on bench today against Le Havre. He started Thursday in Europa league but came out pretty early in an easy win. I'm not sure why he didn't start today but Matic and Tolisso did instead.

Probably a great outcome as Lyon fell behind 1-2 and Tessman came on at the half. His rating doesn't look great but Lyon won 4-2 as they absolutely dominated the 2h. This win - Lyon's 5th in their last 6 - brings them to within 2 points of a UCL spot.

=====

Marlon Fossey named Man of the Match by a number of Belgian publications in Standard Liège’s 0-0 draw with Antwerp today. Captained the side again.

11th clean sheet of the season for him at right wingback. One of Standard’s best players this year.

Next stop: Nations League

Does anyone know who is carrying the game on Thursday against Panama? All I can find so far is Paramount+ and Univision.

Did Concacaf really leave us with no English language linear carriers?

Hmmm. Brian Gutierrez was spotted training with the USMNT today.

He is on the 60 man roster so he may be the Johnny replacement or maybe just training in general.

Man, 30 years ago Luna would have been a superstar #10. So much skill. It'll be interesting to see how his career plays out.
He is fun to watch. He may be missing just enough athleticism to have him succeed at a high level but he has everything else.

I hope someone buys him this summer. He needs to get to Europe soon.

Wow... Didn't know he had that kind of leg. Bullet.
Quinn is one of the best ball strikers in MLS so this doesn't surprise me much. I've flipped a little and am probably more excited for Albert than Cavan but these things remind me that they can both be elite.
Hopefully one of them develops into a top player.

Mathis looks like he is going to have everything he needs athletically and certainly seems good enough technically. Cavan is the opposite where his technical skills are fantastic and hopefully his athleticism will be enough to get to the upper levels of the game.

I only really saw Quinn as a youth nat... Seemed like he had top level athleticism and solid skills, but nothing elite that I saw at the time like with lil brother

Oh boy.

Jedi and Trusty join Johnny as officially out.

Looks like Scally will have to be on the left.

With Scally very unlikely to attack, Poch may have to consider Weah at RB.

Even though we are missing arguably 4 starters (Dest, Jedi, Pepi/Balo and Tillman), we should still have more than enough to put in a good performance against Panama.

We really could use Ledezma or Reynolds right about now

On the bright side, at least Moore wasn't added to the roster

Given how few wings we're bringing, I'd assume that Weah will still play RW and Fossey will be the RB, although I think our strongest starting lineup would put Weah at RB, McKennie opposite Pulisic at wing, and Reyna as the 10

it makes you wonder if they contacted Brown about the 60 man roster or not. No way to know but damn he would be nice to have as an option.

I believe if either Guti or Luna plays, we will be able to cap tie them.

I don’t think there is anyone else on roster that needs to be cap tied but I may be missing some one.

For those that missed it in the main thread, FIFA is contracting out special grass (mostly grass with some artificial strands woven, as has been done else where before), to be used in the dome and turf stadiums for the world cup.

This technology will be tested during the Nations League games in Sofi stadium.

The proof will be in the pudding as they say but it at least looks the part

When you look at the other names on this list, Jedi may be having one of, if not the greatest, club season of any US field player ever.

I still think I would put Dempsey's 2011/12 and maybe Pulisic's first year with Chelsea(the fabled lockdown Puli year)over this, but wow..... Good for Jedi. What a surge he's made the last few years.
Remember though, for Puli it was a not a full year of being great. He had an incredible burst after lock down ended but he was not great in the early part of the season. He had a huge break out after the lock down ended and for that time period, I believe that was as good as an American has ever played over a couple months period.

Pulisic’s goal contribution per game played was better last year than it was during the Covid year (when factoring in the full season)

Great call on Dempsey too. He was absolute beast that season.

And while I said field player, I guess we could always include Howard’s big season with Man United when he won keeper of the year in the EPL in 2004.

Sacha Kljestan is doing it again this year, playing for Des Moines Menace in the US Open Cup.

And he brought old friends Bradley Wright Phillips and Benny Fielhaber with him. More old hats are expected to join soon.
Dax McCarty, Matt Hedges and Ozzie Alonso have also joined Des Moines for the Open Cup.
They won their first open cup game tonight, beating Sporting KC 2, 2-1.

Sacha scored both goals on pk's.

Here was the line up. It is a like a whose who of an MLS All Star team circa 2015

all the soundbytes I'm reading from US players have been talking about playing with "nastiness" and "bite". I'll believe it when I see it... not feeling terribly confident about tonight.

Jedi put out a statement. It does not sound like a new injury but something he has been dealing with for a while and they decided now might be the best time to get it better.

He said he has been dealing tendinopathy for a few months now.
