I’ve carried mail for 21 years. Walking routes, 10+ miles a day. Have had my own route for the last 7 years. I live on my route. It’s hard work, not going to lie. Union job. Management can be overbearing at times, but as long as you do the job safely and correctly, show up on time every day, there’s not much to worry about. Our current Post Master and management team is pretty decent and fair. My customers are great, helps that they’re mostly my neighbors. I’ve looked into switching crafts recently. I’m probably going to move into maintenance and do that for the last 10 or so years of my career.
My brother in law is a mailman and he likes it. Before he married my sister in law, he took full advantage of the fact he was single and the fact that he had a lot of bored housewives on his route. His stories are......interesting to say the least.
I’ve only been bitten once. By a chow-chow about 15 years ago. He was behind the shrubs and attacked me before I even had time to react. Got me pretty good on my hand. I had to get a shot and a few stitches. I was in the ER for hours. I had tickets to a Nets playoff game that night and barely made opening tip.
I don’t have any lonely housewife stories, sorry. Probably good since my wife is one of my customers
