USPS Real Mail Notification (NoVA) (1 Viewer)

Mr. Ected

Footballguy
FFA in NoVA, I have been beta testing a new service from the Post Office that gives you an email daily with a scan of mail that is going to be delivered that day. They show you 'real' mail and usually not junk mail. Here is a shot of what the email looks like. The Post Office is beginning to expand this past the test. If you are interested in joining, let me know. and I can send you a link to get on.

I've been using it for a year or so, and it it nice, especially when you are away from home, you can get a look at what mail is being delivered.

If you are in one of these zip codes, you qualify:

Too bad you can't reject it piece by piece so it never gets delivered.
Actually, I think that's (kinda) the next step. USPS is looking to save costs, and daily delivery is expensive. I think they're trying to transition into a mail notification system: They will email you daily with what's arrived for you, but, they'll deliver it all in bulk at the end of the week; with the option to select any piece you want delivered as a priority for a small fee.
You mean like the cost of the postage the original sender paid?

They should start doing that one day bulk delivery right now. I can't remember the last time I received time sensitive mail.

I think people would be utterly surprised just how quickly a company with a monopoly on services will dress up a cost increase as a new "service." They've probably already figured out a ballpark figure of the general postage fees they collect by senders per year, they're now tapping into the other side of the market to cover costs.

I think it's a pretty astute point by Walking Boot, actually. They wanted to go after email and couldn't -- this is the next step in saving the USPS.

Sure I'll give it a shot. Send me a PM?

How about you being able to mail all you want for free, but if you want to receive anything, you have to pay? Marketers would need to be more creative to sucker you into selecting their "Official" looking notices. Of course the sheeple would pay for everything and just get taken to the cleaners. Just spit-ballin'.

Perfect.

Can't see this as a viable business for the USPS, don't think there will be enough interests. The only time I would have ever wanted to see what mail I have coming beforehand was when we use to get our tax refunds in the mail.

I'd need a bigger mailbox to hold all the credit card offers and stupid advertisements my wife gets
For some reason advertisers think I'm Hispanic. My last name is Italian, but can be mistaken/mispronounced as Hispanic. When I was a kid we got Latino bmg and Latino Columbia House all the time. Nowadays we get Mujura magazine and other stuff. I don't speak any espanol ya'll.

No direct deposit?
Probably why he said "use to".

This service would offer absolutely nothing for me. I can think of only one time over the past year where my wife and I were wondering if a letter was arriving that day. It was a copy of her college transcript that she needed to get in order to send it out in a package of material for something she was applying for, and it had to be postmarked that same day. I went home early from work so I could check the mailbox, and if it was there, I could help her do whatever else she needed to in order to have everything sent by 5pm or whatever. Thankfully it was. If we had this service, and we saw it wasn't arriving that day, I wouldn't have left work early.

I could probably extend that way beyond one year for the last time something was that time sensitive for us.

I was just gone for a month, and it was nice to see what was arriving. We had people coming into our house for pets, so I could have them react if need be.

Usually what I get in the email isn't the junk mail. It's bills and other things. If I do receive an ad that is in the shape of a post card (like in OP, then it slides thru. I'll look for a better one to post.
