V. Davis-another member of the pre-season hype machine? (1 Viewer)

I know it's only week 1, but Davis was "targeted" as a break out candidate this year. The 49ers looked terrible on offense and Davis was barely thrown to by Smith. The Cardinals had one of the top 5 worst defenses last year so it's not like they played the 85 Bears. I assume there are better days ahead for Davis but he certainly does not look like the break out player some of us were hoping for. Would you rather have Witten over this guy? Are better days ahead?

Davis can't catch and plays on a bad offense. Do the math.

I fell for the hype, but it looks like Davis falls behind DJax, Battle, and Gore as far as offense involvement. He might be good for a TD here or there, but I don't see him playing a large role like Gates, Witten, or even Winslow.

He led the ACC in receiving, :goodposting: that he "can't catch."IT'S ONE WEEK PEOPLE!!!RELAX.

Relax.

Its one week.

VD had to stay in to block far more than usual last night; the SF OL could not handle the AZ pressure, thus Smith had no time to throw; and AZ had VD doubled most of the time when he actually did go out on a pattern.

Its one week. Chill.

VD is a great matchup vs the Rams this week. If he doesn't perform for your team this week, then start worrying.

The only problem I have with this is that the 49ers shouldn't have those kinds of nasty protection problems with the AZ defense. They had months to gameplan, they weren't playing one of the top defenses, in fact they were playing a bottom defense.

What the hell -- is Davis hurt?

With rookie Vernon Davis likely to miss 2-6 weeks with an injury Eric Johnson will see plenty of opportunities coming his way. Good for 7rec. for 87 yds and a TD filling in. Grab him immediately.

Fair point. I admit to not watching AZ much this preseason; did they show this kind of speed and blitzing during the preseason? Reason I ask is because they sure didn't play like this last year. I guess we'll find out what the issue was this week when SF plays against the awful Ram D.btw, glad to see SunshineBear hasn't changed form.

Jesus people its one week.

Look at Todd Heap's 1st 2 weeks as a starter. I remember he was the supposed stud young TE. I drafted him late. Everyone in the Shark Pool was ready to give up on him. People were trading him for Bubba Franks. I held knowing it was early. After the week 3 bye week the next week they played Denver on MNF. Check the stats. If I recall he had 80 yds receiving and 2 TDs. And Im pretty sure they did not have a good offense either. So relax. Its early.

Not only is it only one week, we're also talking about a tight end. If a tight end's average game is 4-50, he's a stud. There's going to be some weeks like this.

He was absolutely overhyped in the preseason. I thought it was ridiculous to think he could actually surpass Gates this season (as some individuals around here seemed to think).

With that said, he may actually be a good buy low candidate.
