How do the valets block off a set number of spaces with cones etc? For example, lets say there is a large outdoor shopping center with multiple shops and restaurants. How do the valet companies have the right to block certain spaces in the shopping center and shopping center garage? Why can't I just move their cone and park in a space legally?

The valet company is there at the shopping center's pleasure and the shopping center decides how the spots are allocated. You could justifiably be towed if you parked there without permission.

Either shoot the lock off your wallet and pay for valet or walk a little farther.

It's not the wallet I'm worried about. It's that valets are very low rent and will steal #### from my car or damage my car with no recourse.

But, I thought there were legal requirements for towing? Signs have to be legally posted with very precise wording etc.

Generally speaking: laptops, tablets, sunglasses...

I'm pretty sure there is a law requiring proper signage for towing to be allowed in parking lots frequented by the public. I'll wait for the local lawyers and Woz to weigh in here.

I normally do. But thought I would ask a question here about not parking somewhere else. That's the point of the thread.

Yes, that is what I am saying.

in some states the law requires that for a non-residential private lot that you have to post if you're going to tow before a certain amount of time (in Washington it's 24 hours), and the phone number of where to get your car back if it's been towed.

I normally do. But thought I would ask a question here about not parking somewhere else. That's the point of the thread.

Seems to me, you should ask them what they will do. Either have a policy to tow or not, regardless of proper signage. If they tow you and they are wrong about it you'll have to take them to small claims court and win which doesn't seem worth it.
