Value of SD Receiving Corps (1 Viewer)

So MNF is getting ready for another big intraconference game this week between SD and DEN. In addition, SD is coming off of their bye week and should be getting Gates (at least partially) and Floyd back, with VJackson coming up next week. Now Rivers was already having some pretty monster numbers before the bye week with Gates at <75%, 2 dudes I had never heard of at WR, and Floyd out with hamstring injury.

With all of this talent coming back to SD, what impact do you think this will have on individual players' production:

* Gates: up or down

* Naanee: up or down

* Floyd: up or down

* Ajirotutu: up or down

* VJ: up?

Given all of these targets, is anyone at risk of no longer seeing the field?

The only thing I worry about with VJAX is hammy issues. It seems that just about every player that sits out great lengths has some sort of hammy issue during the season. Since that can't be predicted, I expect him to pick up where he left off. I heard an interview with Gates pretty much saying VJAX was a notch above any other WR on the roster. I also expect the way Rivers is moving the ball that Malcolm Floyd will still put up some big numbers.

I've heard this and the opposite. He risks injury since he hasn't played yet, and he's injury free and fresh unlike every other guy in the NFL right now.

I tend to think he's more like someone starting their year. He has been keeping in great shape and he has been practicing with the team for 3 weeks. He is not worn down by the season yet, in effect this is week 1 after preseason for VJax. He may be a step faster than everyone else at this point. I kinda lean towards that side vs the injury risk side.

I agree, he has been preacticing for weeks now, it's like he just went through training camp. That said, when you do have a player that steps in off the streets and plays immediately, the hammy point is a valid one (see Darrell Revis.)

I expect Gates value to take a small hit, it'd be hard not to with a receiver like Vjax returning to take looks. I expect Vjax to either put up WR1 numbers as a ceiling, and good WR2 numbers as a floor. I expect Floyd to perform a notch below that, essentially becoming a WR2 from this point on.

I know it's not the thread topic, but what this really means is a bump for Rivers who is already the top QB in most formats. Now he's going to have an arsenal of big play guys he trusts and they will be able to spread the field with them if they want. For a guy who many steered clear of because he was missing LT and missing VJax, Rivers will now have an over abundance of weapons at his disposal.

As for the topic, over the next 2-3 weeks it's going to be hard to trust starting anyone but Gates, and his injury makes that a bit risky too. If Floyd is now healthy you'd think he's going to play a sizable role, but who knows if Ajirotutu earned some more targets last week and once VJax gets back It could start to look like New Orleans where you just don't know week to week who will get the looks.

I think you can safely lower expectations for Naanee and Crayton as neither was really targeted extensively when the other options weren't available.

I like this the most so far.I think people fail to forget just how good Vincent really is though. He's good enough that I don't expect him to "crash and burn", and wouldn't be shocked if he became dominant with 8-12 targets a week and going over the century mark a few times before the season is over. Obviously it's still very possible that he doesn't post much stats wise, but opposing teams won't be able to dedicate as much coverage to gates, which is just downright scary to me.Slightly bias fanboy posting haha

Anyone else own both Floyd and VJAX? I am starting Floyd this week but don't know what the hell I will do after that. Will only be able to start one per week, I assume it will be VJAX but there is definitely a non-zero chance that Floyd remains the #1 guy.
