Vanderjagt cut (1 Viewer)

"Obviously, I feel better than having stayed the course the other way. The last four, five weeks, I don't think he was hitting the ball, to the point where I think it made us play the game a little differently. And we just weren't able to put him out there with a lot of confidence. It's just a confidence thing. When it starts affecting how you're playing, you've got to try something else. There was a time during the early part of the season basically after pre-season was over that it looked like things were going to sort themselves out. It just wasn't consistent enough. I don't know. I can't put my finger on it."

- HC Bill Parcells on releasing Vanderjagt

"I thought he was the best option available. I know what his track record is. And I know in 2003-2004, I know why he had some problems kicking and I know why he was out of football in 2005, and I know where he was this summer. I have good information from the people that had him this summer; they were very positive about it. I looked at everything."

- HC Bill Parcells on signing Gramatica

"I had surgery a couple of years ago, and I think I fixed the problem that I had in my leg. I hope I can help the team. It's not as easy as starting in the pre-season, getting warmup games. I have to be ready for whatever comes."

- Martin Gramatica

"Vandershank is out. Gramissica is in. The Cowboys might not be able to find a decent kicker, but at least they're cornering the market on those with cutesy nicknames."

- Journalist Jim Reeves

Even when Vandy is on, he's one of the worst clutch kickers ever.
That being said, this is going to be comical when Tuna has to cut Gramatica circa Week 14 and brings Suisham or Cundiff back in.Gramatica has been floating in free-agency for a BIG reason.Lest ya'll forget... ol Martin is kicking 60% over the past 4 seasons. Has only kicked a 20 yarder in place of Vinatieri this year. Didn't play last year. Was cut the year before. Interestingly, Indy brought him in to help out Vandy in '04, if you recall. He's one of the worst active kickers, if not THE worst.... in 4th quarter opportunities.... something in the 50-60% range.this will be funny....

"The one thing I do know is this: You've seen us spend big money on a kicker for the last time. It's just too fragile. That's the first time we had done that and we're just not going to do that anymore. The reason Vanderjagt was here as long as he was here was because of the kind of investment we had in him."

- Owner Jerry Jones

“I don’t see what he did wrong to warrant him being cut. I hope it doesn’t come back to haunt us. Whoever made that decision, I’m pretty sure they’re hoping the same thing. Going into the Colts game, the guy was 12-of-15. That’s still a high kicking percentage. He didn’t lose any games for us. If I had to put myself in the mix, I feel like I lost some games and I’m still here, so it’s just unfortunate.”

- WR Terrell Owens

Vanderjagt has cleared waivers.
So is he done for the season? I can't really see how there isn't a contending team out there willing to sign him for the stretch run. I realize he doesn't want to kick week to week for a team like Denver or Oakland that have established kickers ailing, but is signing with a team in need of a long-term kicker for the remainder of the season a possibility?

I doubt it, since he was on Dallas' opening day roster he will get paid for the entire season. Therefore, I don't see any reason for him to sign anywhere else when he won't get paid as much as he's already getting for the rest of this season.Really sucks since he's my only kicker in one of my playoff teams. :wall:
