Vasectomy in the AM... (1 Viewer)

Sabertooth should change his alias to Daggertooth?

I didn't notice a decrease after mine many years ago. I guess anything is possible and I don't claim to know which is "normal". Sure sounds like some of us here noticed no decrease, though. Best of luck!

Had mine on 12/30. I was a little nervous pre-procedure, but after about 15 min of laying on the table, I was on my way home. No valium, so I was able to drive myself. The local stung a little, but not a white knuckle moment like I had been anticipating. Recovery wasn't too bad. Took a couple of 800 mg ibuprofens the first day and was walking around that first afternoon. Some tenderness in the area, but nothing too bad. The next couple of days, I did some light lifting around the house (putting away Christmas stuff, laundry, etc.), but no heavy exertions. I was back at work on Tuesday (I had Monday off).

I've since had 3 moments "with myself," you know, to get the swimmers out of my system. Well, anyway, there was a little blood in the evidence. Anyone else experience this? How long did it last?

Eight days out now and pretty much pain-free. Took the Valium for the procedure as the urologist said it "helps relax the muscle involved down there". The local stung a bit and the tension and manipulation during the procedure was a little uncomfortable. Took a Lortab when I got home, one before bed, and one more the second night. I also worked in some 800 mg ibuprofen three times a day for the first two days, and intermittently then after that. Had three bags of frozen peas I rotated and kept on most of the time I was awake for the first day and a half while I sat on my duff playing Xbox. Was able to test the system out with the wife at just under one week and everything was good. I was a little apprehensive about the first time after, but no problemo. Have to take in a specimen at 3 months post and make sure I'm no longer shooting live rounds...

So my wife and I were sitting in the Urologist office for the first visit about an hour ago and she was reading a magazine. She turns to me and points to a page in the magazine and say well I could get this done instead: Essure This looks like a much better option.

Alright. I've been putting this off, and we are in the middle of a full blown scare. My blood pressure can't take this any more. Please, for the love of Tim Tebow, let the next 2 words I hear from my wife be, 'I started'.

I'm in the same boat as you as far as needing to get chopped, but for obvious reasons, holding back.. They don't call it 'pull-and-pray' for no reason. Best of luck!

Had my procedure last November. Have gone back now for testing 3 consecutive months, still have "rare" live rounds. I must have some kind of super-semen that just won't die. !@#$#$!

Been almost 4 years since getting clipped. Best decision I ever made. Sex is great, no concerns ever.

I love getting jumped spontaneously before bedtime. Wife and I have our timing down perfect - knocks us both out

It's great not dealing with her "pill mood swings" or the thought in the back of my mine that she just may "forget" to take it because she saw a cute baby that day.

I'm looking forward to all those benefits. Not knowing for sure if it's taken has me uptight and outta my rhythm. It will be a load off my mind (PTP) to finally get an all-clear from my urologist. Latex just ain't for me.

can't wait to get this done a few years from now. 100% serious. condoms suck
If I had the need for a condom (and I don't because I don't cheat on my wife  ) I think it would be almost impossible to finish with it on. I think I would have to handle the last few strokes (again, just guessing).

I could "finish" in a burlap sack. It's just the sensation is about 174 times less awesome w/ a condom.

This is pretty much spot on how I feel about condoms. Useless to me. How do you stop in the moment and have to try to rip open the impossible to open packs, then you rip with your teeth and it has that latex taste, then you fumble w/it and then screw it all up by tearing it? Once it's on, you know its on. I can't fight the feeling. It bothers me, like a loud pesky mosquito. It's the opposite of pleasure. Sucks out loud. Hope I never have to use one again. condoms :boxing:

Just got back from my 4th post vas test. 4 times I have failed. :(

:o

This has to be some kind of strange anomoly, right? I mean I can't believe this ####. I am beside myself. It's tough to cope with having to do a 5th test. My sperm just will not die.

I wanted to say :bye: to condoms and :pickle:

but....

:sadbanana:

I just went in yesterday for the post op follow up. My 2 and a half year old killed me during the week after the snip. Major bruising showed up once I had to keep and eye on her and chase her around the house the past week. So I've been told to flush the unit 15 times before my first test 2 months from now. Hopefully it goes better than it has for raidersfan.

Try to squeeze out a double header in there somewhere. It is possible that it didn't work. Did they cut and tie?

I have had some night/day doubleheaders since my vas-op a few months ago. I pretty well heard and felt the "snip" sound and I didn't feel any kind of tying or anything. This Doc has 30+ years experience. He's never had a case like mine in all his years. He's at a loss.

At what point do they admit that the procedure didn't work? Would they go back in and double check it, or what?

Oof. Having to go in for a repeat procedure would be suck.

I'm going to be having this conversation with the doctor next appt. Does the insurance have cause to do a do-over, no charge? Not that I am looking forward to one. It was painful, and I don't want to do that again. It's been 4 months and I'm still shooting live ammo. When do they officially admit the procedure failed? :censored:

I was given a cup and lid when I had the procedure done back in December to be used for a sample four months later. So, I made plans to go yesterday to turn in a sample to see if any swimmers were present. I didn't have "sweet release" at home before work because I didn't want to drive around with it all day. So, I decided to take care of business at Kaiser later in the afternoon. I went into a bathroom marked "for staff only." I did the deed but felt really weird/creepy while doing it. But I rationalized it by telling myself that it was for medical/health purposes. Luckily, no staff members used their key to enter the bathroom. Multiple people did try to enter but stopped after they were met by a locked door. After I was done, I walked up to the Urology dept to drop off the sample. I get there and there are two early to mid-20 something female receptionists. I clumsily stop walking, fake checking my phone to stall. Luckily a much older female receptionist called me over. Under my breath, I said that I had a sample to drop off. "What?" she blurts out. I hear the younger receptionists starting to giggle. I never made eye contact with them. They probably deal with and see this type of thing everyday, but I haven't been that embarrassed in a long time. Anyways, the results came back free and clear of any "swimmers" so *brown chicken brown cow* for me and the Mrs.

When I had a varicoselectomy (not a vasectomy) at age 21 I had to make into a cup so they could see the impact to my swimmers. They - she was about 20 and very attractive - gave me the cup and said go ahead and then bring it back. Well I looked around and only saw the small bathroom in the middle of the waiting area wih about 25 people right outside the door. I went in, it was not only small but just not a space conducive to such endeavors...and I did the deed pretty quickly just to get it over with ( with visions of the chick in my head), I brought it back to the girl and she said, "Wow, that was quick. What did you do it in the waiting room?" almost laughing. I was a bit peeved and said yeah, not a great place for guys to have to do that. She looked at me cross eyed and said, "You didn't go down the hall?" apparently I missed the sign that said "patient rooms". They had tvs and magazines Ina nice, comfy room. Did I use that? No, I masturbated in small waiting room bathroom with 25 people standing 2 feet outside.

I was kind of foolhardy, kind of brazen with mine. Seems like at this stage of the game I'm turning into a guinea pig of sorts--became a training class subject for both the vasectomy and for a colonoscopy. I'm laying there listening to Doc giving step by step instructions to an intern with PA assisting the operation. Taking his time, pointing out what they're looking at, explaining technique....

I left there and hardly even needed that bag of frozen peas. Meds consisted of a few beers and two hours later I didn't feel a twinge. So when the time came to drive the couple hours for a sample check I gave it an extra week before connecting with my wife and otherwise ignored it. He's been my GP now for quite a number of years, and even after moving nearly an hour away I go to him for physicals and treatments--so I had no doubts that it was successful. A couple years later, now, and fortunately I was right! :hophead:

On the way in to get mine done today. Wife is chauffeuring me and wants to watch. Took a Xanax a few minutes ago for the first time ever, so we'll see how it goes.

As I walked out of the house to the car, I passed my male basset hound lounging in the sun. I could've sworn that little MFer was giving me a payback smirk when I looked down at him.

Will report back later....

Sitting in the recliner with an ice pack on my crotch as I type here. While what I'm about to describe may sound barbaric, it was pretty damn simple and not all that uncomfortable.Nurse came in first & gave me "undress & lie there" instructions, and asked if I needed anything. I asked here for a two finger glass of Glenlivet 18 year, to which she replied, "I don't think we have that." So I said "ok, the 12 year will do." She looked at my wife, who was shaking her head & told her, "just ignore him."

Doc came in & had me lie flat on the office exam table with my heels in stirrups, like a gyno. No pre event valium or anything (though I did feel a little "at ease" from the xanax I took earlier - wife said it made me a complete chatterbox though.) I asked him to explain each thing he was doing, just 'cuz I typically like to know these things. He used the "no scalpel/no needle" technique, which IMO is the way to go if your doc can do this.

The local anesthesia was delivered by a jet device to the front of my sack - think of the instrument from "Star Trek" that McCoy and Crusher are always using to shoot people up with. It delivers the medicine through the skin via a high pressure puff. He told me it would feel like getting popped in the nuts with a rubber band. Not even as bad it sounded - it was more like getting popped with a small, braces-sized rubber band at worst. He did this about six times to numb me up. Then he took the other device (very small pointy hemostat like thing) to poke a hole in the front, & spread open enough to reach each vas. Didn't feel that at all. He then took small titanium clips and clamped each vas twice, but had to go back & add two more to the left side due to some bleeding. Again, no pain at all, though I did feel a little odd "tugging." The titanium clamps are there permanently. I asked him if I'd have any metal detector/TSA issues; he laughed & said no, & that my 40 time wouldn't be affected either. :lmao:

We chatted about the procedure throughout. The only real discomfort I ever felt after the anesthesia was him having to "roll" my right testicle a bit to get to the vas (that felt pretty much like it sounds) & was the worst part of the whole thing, but again, tolerable. When he was done, he removed the hemotstat/spreader thing, & gave me gauze to apply to the "opening" (which almost instantly closed) for an hour or two in case of bleeding (which was very minor.) The whole procedure took about 20 minutes, & I was out the door. Wife & I went & ate lunch right afterwards.

So post procedure (5 hours out), I'm feeling like I've got a case of the blue balls at worst. No other soreness at this point, no pain meds yet (he sent me home with lortab 10mg just in case.) Just an ice pack. So far, so good, and as of now, I'd definitely recommend this method if you're in the market.

He used the "no scalpel/no needle" technique, which IMO is the way to go if your doc can do this.
How many of you used the "no scalpel" method vs. traditional? Is it less swelling and stuff? Any updates from those who had it done in this thread? I've read of a few who had bad experiences but sounds like most would do it again. My wife is going off her hormonal IUD and we're done having kids, condoms are not fun, looking at other options. The Essure thing looks promising, but I've read about women's experience with them being not good or having complications that weren't explained very well so will likely got the V done.

I had the "No scalpel" method at about 1 pm on Friday. The worst parts of the procedure were the numbing injections to start and the rolling and tugging at the end to put everything back in its spot. We are talking about 10 seconds of pain.

I followed the docs orders and iced the goods for the rest of the day on Friday when I returned home from the procedure. Saturday, I iced again in the morning then wore a jock strap all day. I put the jock strap in the laundry yesterday evening and noticed a BIG difference when it was off. My only real advice for those that are going to have this procedure is to wear a jock strap for a few days after the procedure.

I have been walking around the house and performed light lifting tasks. I went and got a hair cut today. It is not like you are confined to a bed or chair. I have not lifted anything over about 10 pounds and the swelling has remained minimal. So far, so good.

So I'm scheduled for next week, unfortunately my urologist only works at our clinic M-W, so am having it on a Tuesday afternoon. I'm planning to drive myself, any issues there? Also, my Doc said when he had it done he was back doing surgery's the next day.... is it ok to try and head to the office the next day? Sounds like I need to invest in a jock strap as my boxer briefs probably won't have enough support? TIA

Get the jock strap. Take a day off and get 2 bags frozen peas--not mixed veggies. Peas are the best as there are no sharp edges to poke you. One in the freezer while you have one on you and then rotate. Plan ahead get movies, video games and good food. I am very busy at my work, but this was one time I took it easy. This is a simple surgery that the worst part is the tugging, but you can make it difficult by over-doing it. Just take a day or even two to make sure all heals--the last thing you want is to damage something down there by not resting.

TIA
I had my wife drive me but would have had zero problem or discomfort driving home myself. They did give me a Valium prescription to take if I wanted but I didn't bother.

I went the traditional route back in May. Followed drs orders for about 24 hours. I built a shed 2 days after surgery. It was pretty much completely painless. I took the painkillers because...why not?

Had mine last Friday. Procedure wasn't bad, i still get some achiness if I sit down and try to stand back up. What is killing me in the 2 week wait before any type of activity. It's worst then the procedure itself.

What is the purpose of waiting even if we use contraception? Will they fall off, are they worried about infection, will it affect the actual procedure itself or will it hurt? Because I can deal with some discomfort.

My doctor told me I should ejaculate 30 times to make sure all of the ‘live’ sperm is out before having unprotected sex. I asked if they had an internet connection at the office – figured I’d start knocking out the 30 right away.

:lmao: I have never heard that recommendation before.

Dr. said no activity for 2 weeks and then start knocking them out. Just curious as to why the wait?

Maybe age, health, other factors, no idea. Mine said I could get cracking as soon as the swolen feeling went away (about a few days). FWIW, I was 30 when I had mine done.ETA: I think it may have been 5 days but I know it wasn't two weeks.

I had the permanent goalie done 10 years ago. The hardest part were the questions my Dr. asked me. My wife was preggo at the time and him asking "what if the baby dies?", "what if your wife dies during childbirth?", where a lot to think about at the time.

No reason to wait, I think I waited 2 days for swelling to go down a little. I'm about a month out and things are fine. Toughest part for me was waiting to work out.ETA: I actually did a blog post on this (I know, so cliche) that's probably not appropriate to post here (PG-13 with more gross pictures than anything inappropriate). If anyone is curious on my specific experience, PM me.
