Vegas (2 Viewers)

Booked a nice deal on a GO room at Flamingo to be mid strip and stay within my companies spending guidelines.  Hopefully I will be finished with work by Wed night giving me all day Thursday to take in the first day of the NCAA tourney.  I was in Vegas back in 2010 for the first two rounds of the tourney (my Bobcats upset the Hoyas!)....it was pretty jam packed in the books and would think this will be no different.

Are any of you local Vegas guys?  What's the status on pot out there....recreational shops popping up yet on the strip or nearby, or is it too soon?

Leaving for Vegas on Monday.  Eating at Vic & Anthony's on Tuesday, and watching Elton John on Wednesday.  Love Vegas, and maybe this will be the trip I finally win some  :moneybag: .

D'oh! I just realized my wife and I will be celebrating our anniversary during the NCAA tournament. I hope there won't be too many drunken meatheads in our area.

Wife and I had beef Wellington at Mon Ami Gabi. Wait for an outside table by the sidewalk and you'll have a perfect view of the Bellagio fountains. And it was an absolutely perfect beef Wellington. Highly recommend.

For steakhouses, I really like DelMonico's in the Venetian. Amazing whiskey list.
Probably sound like a broken record in this thread over the years but mon ami gabi is the best overall experience restaurant in Vegas.

We'll keep talking about it because it was your harping in this thread that made my wife and me try it and we loved it ?

Looks like my work trip is coming into focus...no family tagging along...can't really say I'm that bummed there.

Won't be ready until July 1, at the earliest.

Alright, tickets for table seats at Absinthe purchased.

Reservations for Ramsay steak made. Same for breakfast at Mon Ami Gabi. I LOVE French toast!

We are playing the rest by ear.

Mon Ami Gabi is my only MUST DO every time in vegas. I'm sure it's been said, but tip/wait for a table on the rail outside.

Figured it was too soon.

What's the safest way to secure a small amount out there?  I'm not a big ask a random person guy.
My guess would be to ask a party consultant who you're buying bottle service through at a day/night/gentleman's club to take care of it. Since it's not illegal to possess/use, let them sort that out and use in private. Getting an Air BnB place near the strip so it's a private residence and you go outside on private property, don't violate in the house rules and don't have to deal with a hotel not allowing it.

Last time I was there some buddies staying at the westin (off one of the side streets of the strip) just asked some dude in front of the liquor store by his hotel.  Then we smoked it on the roof of the Westin and did the ice bucket challenge in the stairwell

Vegas is about 82.9% drunken meatheads during march madness
Crap, according to the game schedule there will only be an overlap on 3/26. Hope it's not too bad and the clear out by Sunday afternoon.

Yup - outside seating is mandatory.

funny thing is I can see the breakfast being great there but I have never been.  All sorts of great dinners but I always "settle" for the half roasted chicken.  They always bring the hits.

hash house a go-go is getting to "mandatory" status for me when it comes to breakfast.

Thinking of going with a few friends for the NCAA tourney this year. Any tips? Places to stay? How much more expensive will rooms and flights be? Coming from Texas.

Your bankroll makes my bankroll looks small and pathetic.  I assume your room is comped.
It was our first time staying at the cosmo so we had an offer for 2 nights free but ended up getting them comped on the back end.

Came in under budget on everything which is good and my wife said it was the best vacation we've ever had. Win!

Already planning the next trip haha.

That's awesome, love an under budget trip.  We've stayed at Cosmo before and really enjoyed it.  Might go eat at Eggslut for breakfast.  We're at NYNY right now.

Celebrating the wife's 40th next month in Vegas with another couple.

I am looking for recommendations on some nice places to have a drinks.  Not looking for those superclub types of places.

Thanks

have you eaten at the LINQ? Not the Guy F restaurant but the other one that was seen on man vs. food, dude that chicken fried steak creation is a heart stopper but so damn good.

Mandarin Bar on the 23rd floor of Mandarin Oriental is what you seek. The drinks are expensive, but the place is super swanky. Go just before sunset, when the Strip starts to light up. You won't be disappointed.

For tightwads like me, the High Roller observation wheel has a "bar car." Costs a little more, but open bar more than makes up for it.

I believe you are referring to Hash House a Go-Go, which Ref mentioned earlier. I hit the downtown location, but rules. Portions are cartoonish. :porked:

Staying at Aria this weekend with the girlfriend.

Back to the scene of the crime - I won the $125 NL tourney there last November which was fun.

Girlfriend doesn't gamble so that means getting flat out wasted the whole trip, but it'll be good to get away.

Not sure what you paid for the room but they have the best poker rate in Vegas.  If you play in the tournament you get credit for playing 5 hours of cash.

wife and saved $650 in hotel room charges, got to stay at a plus resort and I treated the tournament a how much I can drink fest.  Super time.

also - they play a 2-5 with a $10 rock PLO game there that is super.

Looking for the best after party scene following Bruno Mars on a Saturday night in July. TMobile. OK if I'm the oldest guy in the club, but not to a creeper level. Not a 21 year old hangout. So a) where's the best place b) how does Smails and crew get in without waiting like a commoner?

I'd get tickets for four to Absinthe. Then get a limo or just take an Uber and go to Frankie's Tiki Room, The Velveteen Rabbit and close things out at the Double Down. Don't plan to arrive at the DD until at least 2 AM though.

You'll be fine at most any club these days.... vegas is surprisingly diverse. Assuming the show is out at midnight you'll be in peak time... most lines will be long and guest list passes will likely no longer be in play.

Best bet for fast entrance is make sure the wife is looking good and you're dressed well... and use the "handshake" with a host you've connected with in advance.

Depending on club/time but $50-100 should cover you + wife (not in addition to cover). Yes, it's a decent premium over a $20-40 cover... but it's Vegas and if you're on a big night out with the lady, the extra $ is well spent to keep the good times flowing and avoiding the buzzkill of a line. Plus she'll feel like a VIP which may make for an extra entertaining evening for ya.

You'll text host when en route and he will meet you outside the ropes and walk you in. No fuss no wait. Some will buy your first drink but that's not common unless you have a relationship. Semi-discreet Handshake w cash upon greeting is protocol.

If you need help picking a club or locating a host lemme know. Hakkassan across the street at MGM is a phenomenal club and should be buzzing post show. Light a few doors down at Mandalay Bay uses a massive video Wall w cirque performers swinging from ceiling over the dance floor. Marquee a few doors up at Cosmo is great but may trend a touch younger. Barring one place having better DJs (what are the dates), I think Hakk is a slightly more impressive property unless you think your wife would love the cirque aspect of Light.

Eggslut was pretty good. We really enjoyed the Peppermill as well. We don't really eat breakfast early though, especially in Vegas so we didn't get to try a few places that have been recommended like Hash House and Mon Ami Gabi. Heard those two are amazing.

We ate pizza a few times and Grimaldi's at the Palazzo was by far our favorite.

How does the room discount work?  I just give them my player card at checkin?  I haven't put in a lot of hours there and won't be doing much this trip either.  Would they give me a discount at check-in based on my tourney win, assuming I'll be living in the poker room?

If you play 5 hours a day you qualify for the poker rate.  Any 1 tournament entry gives you 5 hours credit.

When mrs ref and I went for 3 days the rack rate was $430 a night.  They gave us a poker rate of $129 per.  I played 7 hours cash and we both played the $125 you won and got credit for 10 hours.  I cant recommend it enough.  If you are interested call the poker room and talk to the manager.

Better than that "secret-not secret" pizza place?  Can't remember the name of it - been mentioned a lot in here.

AFAIK it has no name, it's just known as Secret Pizza. I liked it fine. I can't speak to Grimaldi's. Pizza Rock (downtown and Henderson, if memory serves) is my favorite.

I covered this one a few pages ago as well but it begs repeating...

 http://lethaivegas.com/menu-2/

if you find yourself on freemont street and like Thai food you can't go wrong.  Found it via trip advisor and boy were they right.

as good and in some instances better than the 5 star Thai place at the Aria.

So if one is going to HHaGG, are you going for breakfast or dinner?
The food/menu is good enough to go for all three meals.   The portions are big enough that you could go for breakfast and eat it all day.

its best known for breakfast I'd say.
