Any recommendation for pool side cabanas? We’re staying at Vdara Sunday-Wednesday and have heard good things about their spa, but kind of looking for a half day by the pool.

Vdara’s spa is very nice. Their pool sucks  . Wish I could help more here.

haven't been to vegas in 15+ years.  coming for MNF next week.  staying at the MGM.  flying in sunday afternoon.  thoughts?

:oldunsure:
i am not a big gambler.  I enjoy fun pools and restaurants.  MGM has worked for me. Do your own little stumble at the hotel. Grab a drink and app, and move on to the next.

you’ll have robuchon, morimoto, hakkasan, emeril, Wolfgang among others

I know the Caesars places better, but that is a pretty good MGM list. I  would look to get reservations now

i used to be a vegas regular.  vip here and there, everywhere. i've long since, wised up.  basically, i'm looking for a good time on sunday night.
Well, I can vouch for Bobby Flya’s Amalfi. Fan-freaking-tastic…. Get the salmon carpaccio   and they make a fanatic espresso martini.

In Vegas now and so sad to see that Caesars entertainment poker rooms are closed except for Caesars.  I’ve had so many great memories playing at Harrahs and Flamingo over the years.

A buddy of mine from my monthly home game has been in Vegas for WSOP and said it's been fish central.  He's been making a ton of coin.
I just got home from a week at WSOP.   Heard the same thing.

Heading to Vegas in early November. I am staying 2 nights at Circa and 2 nights now at Resorts World (Conrad to be specific). Anyone have any impressions of Resorts World yet?

Jealous about Circa, it was sold out when I was there so I couldn't stay but I did visit on Sunday of week 1 @ 1:00 for football and it was crazy.  I wanted to check out Stadium Swim but they were charging a cover of $100 for non-guests.  You'll have to let me know what you think.

Stayed at the Hilton at Resorts World 9/12-9/15.  If you want an in depth review, Five Hundy by Midnight podcast stayed there and only there for a weekend and tried to hit all the bars and restaurants and did a full review podcast, was actually broken up into two pods: Part I, Part II.

Cliff notes version: I heard people comment that it reminded them more of a mall than a casino and I guess that's true, but as a child of the 80's I like malls. I was surprised they were charging premium Vegas prices for everything when they are a little off the beaten path and I would have thought they would be a little lower trying to lure people north.  With the high prices, the quality was just ok so some stuff didn't seem worth it.

I was there for a trade show at the convention center so that's why I stayed at that location.  I was there solo so didn't hit any of the clubs or nicer restaurants.  I really liked "Suns Out, Buns Out" and hit that for a breakfast sandwich and donut each of the mornings on the way to the show.  I actually just ate tacos across the street or at other places (Yardbird, Secret Pizza, Crack Shack) while I was out and about.

The one thing that pissed me off is they have a sportsbook / sports bar there that always seemed to have a minimum spend to sit at a table.  No problem for a group but sucks when you're solo.  They wouldn't make an exception for me as a hotel guest when there were a bunch of empty tables.  My only option was to sit at the bar and balance my food on the video poker machine which I declined to do.

I didn't really gamble there except for checking out the poker room on the last night but it was pretty dead with only a few table running, they said it gets busier on weekends but that was a Tuesday.

They did have some issues with check in through the Hilton app and then room cards working.  I had to get a new card or help almost every day.  Also, I came back from the Raiders-Ravens game to find a stream of water running down the main light fixture and people mopping up and trying to stay ahead of the water by the Hilton elevators and they were shut down for the next couple days at least (still off when I left).  We had to go over to the Conrad elevators, go up to our floor, and then walk back over to the Hilton section.  I think they said it was a leak in the fire extinguisher system.

I haven't been to Vegas in probably 10 years, but I'm headed there with the wife in a month.  She's attending a conference for 2 days (not sure which hotel yet) and then we're staying 4 more days at Palazzo.

We'll probably be there more for food, activities, shows, etc. than for gambling.  A few things I've got penciled in at the moment are:

  • Absinthe show
  • Omega Mart at AREA15
  • Neon Museum
  • Yardbird
  • Bouchon (breakfast)
  • I'll probably look to play a little 1/2 poker while my wife is at her conference, although I'm probably more fish than pro
Anything else that we should be looking at, especially in regards to restaurants?  I'd love to splurge for a nice dinner or two and a few more really good meals that aren't crazy expensive.

Nobu or Delmonaco for a splurge.

Giada is good. It is probably somewhere just below splurge.

I thought Yardbird was just OK. Not bad by any means just not stellar.

Mon Ami Gabi on the patio for breakfast/brunch and epic people watching.

Legacy Bar (rooftop bar on top of Circa) for a nightcap.

Not sure what you are considering as a splurge, but I would encourage you to seek out some places that offer cuisine most out of your ordinary... Some favorites of mine that I don't think were insanely expensive:

Nobu

Robuchon

Hakkasan

jaleo/e

Aureole

Michael Mina

This.

One of my favorite things in the world is having breakfast out on the patio around 7-7:30 on a Saturday or Sunday morning watching everyone stumbling back from the previous night’s dalliances. Their food is pretty darn good too, but you can’t beat the spectacle imo. It’s well worth it imo.

SW for a relaxing steak dinner or STK for a louder fun one.

Mayfair Supper Club or Delilah both capture the old timey Vegas vibe with live music- was just at Mayfair last month and highly recommend.

Lago, Giada or Sinatra for some Italian.

Wing Lei or Blossom for Chinese.

Din Tai Fung is good as well and pretty reasonable.

A couple really fun bars at Venetian/Palazzo although their names escape me- we like the “Library” one.

Hit up Chandalier at Cosmo and go find Ghost Donkey!

Heading to Vegas with the wife in about 10 days for an impromptu trip (OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG), but looks like the Mayfair Supper Club is booked solid until October 24. Is it just reservations, or is it something you buy tickets for? And if it's tickets, is there a secondary market where we might be able to buy even at a markup? Any other suggestions?

Just reservations. Try calling or just keep checking for cancellations. You can also eat in the bar without reservations but don’t have a view of the entertainment so don’t recommend

I checked out Mayfair Supper Club and this looks right up our alley.  Reservation made.  Thanks!

Battista's Hole In The Wall is a great value for Italian food. It's near the High Roller, which I highly recommend.

Check out a place called Hugo's Cellar.

Downtown, off the Fremont Experience, in the basement of the Four Queens hotel.

It's not for everyone, but it looks like it's been there since Sammy and Dean were buying drinks. Salads made table side, Beef Wellington on the menu (😂), rickety old waiters who will run across the street to borrow wine from other restaurants if you order something pricey.

One thing about a lot of Vegas restaurants, they have a very sterile vibe, especially the newer places. Hugo's Cellar is a little time machine, I love it there.

If you do wind up down there, the best place for drinks after, not involving a casino, are the Griffin, and Downtown Cocktail Room.

  • Bouchon (breakfast)
The Bouchon french toast was probably my favorite meal in the world but they stopped making it years ago.  :( Even worse, they now do not serve breakfast every day.  They only serve "brunch" Friday - Sunday: 8am-2pm so don't bother showing up for breakfast on a weekday.

When staying that long you have to head downtown for a while.  I make sure to get down there for a while every trip if just for some cheap gambling (Downtown Grand is a good stop for that, and Pizza Rock is nearby) and to see what Derek Stevens is up to nowadays (you have to check out Circa).  The Griffin and the DCR are great.  There's a secret door at DCR (or at least there was) so don't get discouraged if it looks closed.  (Evel Pie is down that way and worth a stop if you didn't already hit Pizza Rock)

Is it worth it going to Vegas right now?  On the fence for Halloween trip.  Not sure how much I will enjoy being masked up while gambling in the casinos.

Personal preference. If you are planning to gamble a lot of the day, may want to reconsider. If you may spend some time at the pool, our for nice dinners, doing some sightseeing, then sure.

Since my sisters and all their family have decided to forgo getting vaccinated, we are going to boycott Christmas at their house and I am taking my family to Vegas for Christmas. I booked two rooms at the Palazzo for three nights and we are just going to splurge and celebrate out there. We have never gone anywhere for Christmas, so this is going to be something totally different.

I went a couple weeks ago and was playing poker all day, every day (obviously masked up).  I’ll be honest - I kind of liked it.  Playing poker with a mask on is kind of fun.  I hope it becomes the norm going forward.  And this coming from someone who doesn’t like wearing masks.

I'm a bit of a lone wolf out there anyway, so the mask isn't a huge imposition. If you're playing blackjack and video poker, it isn't as big a deal as it would be at craps or even roulette. Pro tip: go to Circa and buy the masks at the gift store, super comfortable.

If you get tired of the strip just head west on Charleston Blvd., and check out Red Rock Canyon. Also make sure you check out the Bellagio's Winter display. It's right past the main lobby and it's free.
