Vegas (5 Viewers)

Hitting Vegas for the first time this summer with some friends. Flying into Vegas and staying 1 night at Treasure Island, then heading to Zion and Bryce for the week, then back to Vegas for 2 nights at the Venetian.

Probably not looking at a baller budget, but what are some first timer recommendations for Vegas, especially in the area of TI and Venetian.

Make a reservation at Yardbird for one of your nights at Venetian.  Have biscuits and jam for an app, then the chicken and waffles and spiced watermelon for dinner.  One of my favorite meals in Vegas.

Breakfast at Mon Ami Gabi, on the patio, for excellent people-watching.

If you have time, have a nightcap at the Legacy Bar on the top of Circa downtown.  Classy and fantastic views.

Doesn’t Legacy have an expensive cover or something? If not I’m dumb for missing as I was just there

The cover is only if you make a reservation (and that $ might even be applied to your spend). There is no cover if you are a walk-in. Just be dressed for the occasion - no sneakers allowed.

I honestly do not know, only have had it recommended as a must by friends that went.  They did not mention a cover.
No cover at Legacy, but there is a dress code. 'Resort casual' means those jeans better be nice. I wear the Charlie Sheen collection on Fri/Sat in Vegas anyway, and they let me in.

I would have said all of these things (though we have lunch at Mon Ami Gabi). I like this facook guy.

I highly recommend drinking a "Sinatra Smash" at the Wynn (can be found inside the Sinatra restaurant or at the old Parasol Up/Down bars which are now called The Overlook Lounge and ??).

If you're at that end of the strip you might choose to check out Resorts World. Always fun to wander around a new place to see what's up.

Good list here. Certainly should spend some time at Wynn/Encore if he is staying so close (Tableau is a good breakfast/brunch spot).

I have a week long Vegas trip in a couple months and we’re packing in a ton of stuff such as…

O cirque show

Piff the magic dragon show

Mike Hammer show

Zion national park (the narrows)

Valley of Fire

High Roller

Area 15

Eat at Batistas Hole in the Wall

Eat at Hash Hash a go go

Eat breakfast at Monami agabi (sp) at Paris

Horseback ride with BBQ excursion

Poker, of course

Pool time

Fremont Street at night

In Vegas now.

Wife wants to go see Martin Garrix at Omni tonight.  We both like EDM, but we're both closer to 50 than 40.  How stupid are we going to feel at a Vegas club at our age?  Will they even let us in?

Go and have fun. I would think they’d let you in you’re dressed well.

Just drink and have fun.  You’re overthinking things.

I went and saw John Digweed (my favorite DJ) in downtown LA a few years ago on NYE, and I'm considering going to see him w/ Sasha in a few weeks too.  I'm 48. :D

Thanks, guys.  We decided to skip this time around, but will feel uninhibited next time we're in Vegas.  We're young at heart and will get our EDM on!!!

Got my Vegas trip coming up…two questions…

1. Any good videos online to learn the basics of craps? And what bets should I avoid to upset the table?

2. Any good alcoholic drink suggestions? Do you have a go-to drink when gambling?

1. you are betting to win money for you, #### the other people because win or lose you won’t ever see them again. best bet is to go max odds and bet that the shooter hits the point before they crap out. i think @icon might have some info

2. depends on what you like, i like kettle and cran or kettle and soda water.

Just getting back now after a week there. Vegas is still awesome. Still expensive. Casinos are still filled with horrible cigarette smoke. The O show wasn’t great at all but the Mike Hammer show in downtown was hilarious. Piff the Magic Dragon was decent. Probably put that above O but below Mike Hammer. Piff was cool to take pictures with everyone after the show and even allow us to pet Mr. Piffles.

The Narrows at Zion are beautiful as well as the Great Chamber and Peekaboo Slot Canyon in Kabab, UT.

Also recommend the taco scooter tour in downtown. It’s fun riding electric scooters and grubbing on some tacos.

Going to Vegas this weekend (Thu-Sun) with a buddy for the Pearl Jam concert. Two questions:

1) What's our best sportsbook option(s) if we're looking to sit around, make a few bets, and drink? Golf and baseball would probably be the main things for us. We're staying at the MGM Grand, FYI.

2) Any must-visit places to eat? We're definitely not looking to go anywhere fancy. Just looking for any cool spots more on the casual side.

In my opinion the MGM sportsbook is kind of a dump at this point.  If you want a sports book that is cool and little more upscale I'd cross the Strip and go up to Cosmo, or Aria if you want to walk a less.  You could also place your bets at MGM and then hang out at Top Golf (on the back side of the gigantic property) or at the Tap sports bar outside the sports book.  It's not a bad sports bar.

If you want to have a REALLY cool experience, take an Uber to Circa downtown.  I took my buddies there a few weekends ago.  We have been going to sports books for 20 years, and they thought they'd seen everything.  They were in AWE of that book.  The whole resort is a lot of fun.  It is adult only, so can't even enter if you're not 21, just fyi.

As far as one recommendation for dining, Mon Ami Gabi on the patio for excellent people watching.  Most people would do breakfast or brunch.  Keep in mind though that it's going to be plenty warm so you may want to walk less and dine inside to avoid the heat.

:goodposting:  Circa is awesome.

Circa is the best for sure. Aria Sportsbook is kind of small. Luxor actually has a lot of good seating and is a nice size even though I don’t love Luxor in general. Cosmo is a unique place- not a ton of seating but a cool bar, bar games and cool atmosphere.

Yeah Aria and Cosmo are neither fantastic, but fairly close to MGM and not full of skeezers like the MGM book seems to be whenever I'm there.

Going over Labor day weekend. Staying at the D. Going to the ice bar, and doing a couples massage and some gambling. The rest of the trip is whatever. Any recommendations for must try food or experience?

So thankful we got out of there before that storm hit. Our plane left the ground at 6:00 pm and that mess came in.

My family goes out quite often. I think it was my 18 year old’s 12th time there. We try and stay at a different place and this time we were at the Wynn. Very amazing property. We got upgraded to the panoramic room on the 59th floor. Wow, what a view.
Great places to eat, but we didn’t reserve Lakeside in time. Their idea of casual dining was Jardin and boy, did you need reservations to get in there. $150 for breakfast for three. The restaurant next to the Sportsbook was nothing special. $20 hotdogs and $10 beers were sort of extreme. Only complaint was there was a real lack of take and go type places. I mean when you eat all these great meals, sometimes you just want a salad or quick sandwich and there was nothing close.

We ate at Primal. It is off-strip with about a ten minute Uber ride. Medieval themed , very Game of Thrones vibe steakhouse. The owner greeted us and sat us at our table. Amazing service. Off the chain good food—albeit pricey. My daughter had a $75 smoked New York strip. I had a fllet and my wife had the salmon. My wife’s drink was served in a horn. Highly recommend this place and it is one of Vegas’s highest rated restaurants. Kind of a sketch neighborhood though.

Next up was Hell’s Kitchen for lunch. We got the Prix Fixe menu of scallops, Beef Wellington and the sticky pudding. Words can’t describe how good this meal was. Incredible atmosphere and service. Again a very hard reservation to get. Plan on  probably close to $400 for lunch for three.

For fun, we ate dinner at Gilley’s. Good, not great, burgers and Bbq. We walked into the bar portion and watched the line dancing and bull riding. A fun break from the fine dining and five star places. It was about $150 for dinner with drinks.

We got room service at the Wynn the last night because we were just so tired of walking. Food was awesome. Everything about that hotel is amazing.

Dang. Had to search deep to find this thread. Will be out there a week from Wednesday (sorry I'll miss you @offdee) .Trying Caesars Palace this time as a change from my usual Vdara stay. Only gonna be there until Saturday morning (heading to Philly afterwards for some concerts before heading back to Tampa), but looking forward to returning to Red Rock Canyon for a full day of hiking. Last time we attempted it, the winds were 30+ mph and it was awful. Seeing O Wednesday night and hanging out downtown Thursday night with friends. Taking Mrs. O to the Neon Museum Friday night as well with possible dinner at Peppermill. Should be fun. Brief, but fun.

I miss Gilley's and the New Frontier, formerly next to TI.

I won $3300 after hitting a Royal Flush on my wedding night playing a progressive .25 Video Poker machine at the Frontier. While I was waiting for my hand pay, my dad won $1k at the same bank while hitting a Royal Flush.

Out here right now and I gotta say I experienced the busiest Wednesday ever. Airport was crazy, rental cars mostly gone, and gaming floor at Caesars was easily 50%+ @offdee, thought of you today on my way to Red Rock Canyon. Went through the heart of Summerlin. Dinner at Triple George Grill tonight and then drinks up and down Fremont St. with friends. @kevzilla, I owe you GB.

In Fremont area, if near the Pepper Club inside the English Hotel, try the Sprouts appetizer. Im not even a big brussel sprouts fan and I’m craving to have these again.

Also, not sure how close/far you'll be from "Area 15" but if you're into funky art installations and unlimited cool photo ops check that out. One of the cooler things I've seen in a while. And there's bars for drinks inside....the center of it is a bar circled around a multi-million dollar LED tree that the leaves light up and pulse with the music (I believed they purchased it from a past Burning Man festival...or one of the big music festivals)

Very familiar with it as my BIL works there. Thanks for the recommendation.

It's gonna for sure be one of my go to Date places when I'm finally there.

Booked for Dec 13-17. The two weeks between the rodeo and Christmas are what passes for downtime in Vegas; many shows and some restaurants are dark. But that means that values are available. My RT airfare from Austin was $218 and I'm paying $135 all in for four nights at TI. I'm in the player's club, but I'm not Kerry Packer or anything.

DId you do Circa Survivor this year? I saw today they are offering a free night's stay and Circa Swim day-bed Mon-Thurs for anyone knocked out of Survivor weeks 1-3 this year.

I did not. It's the least they can do, though, since 75% of the entries were wiped out already.

Is Circa sports book rental worth it? Thought I saw something like $175 for Sunday games. Per seat. I’ve always sat for free in Mandalay Bay. Plus I heard Circa doesn’t show horse racing. Sacrilege for a sports book. Any other good options? Don’t mind minimum spend as long as it’s reasonable. Going Dec 9th weekend. Staying at Mandalay Bay
