This appears to be a great tip. I took at look at this place and canceled our hotel reservation and re-booked here. Great prices and close enough to a few casinos for late night gambling/drinking. We've got a car on our trip so being a block off the strip is no big deal.

Go downtown...strip is over rated. $5 tables for craps available almost all the time. 4 Queens and Fitz both generally have lively games.

Going with the wife in a couple of weeks and we were going to stay downtown at the Nuggett the whole time, but now thinking about staying part of the time up on the strip...like 2 nights each. Never stayed at Planet Hollywood before and thinking that would be a good place/location.

Pleasantly surprised. Really enjoyed my stay there and I really like their sportsbook. It is very small, but has nice couches and plenty of tvs. Rooms were nice, and the casino was great. Ate at Strip House, very $$$$, but I had a great filet. Staying there again in September.

I really liked PH. I may stay there in October/November. Highly recommended as you are in the heart of the strip.

Thanks guys...I was ready to do it and I think these two positives sealed it for me. I've only been in the place once for a short time but liked the casino. The pics of the rooms and everything look great and I really like the location too.

i absolutely f'n love casino royale...lucked into a 2 hr craps roll at Casino Royal on Saturday. Pretty insane.
I need a last minute recommendation. A friend asked me to join him in Vegas this weekend to meet up with his friends who are staying at the Wynn. Being last minute and for the weekend prices are jacked up higher than he wants to pay. So we've started looking at hotels outside the casinos near the Wynn. We'll likely stay with his friend most of the time and will only use the room for sleeping. Does anyone have experience with the chain hotels that are off the strip on Paradise? We're also considering staying at the Riviera, but I'm trying to avoid being that far north.

#1 - KJBerry, can you give us an update/detailed account of the bachelor party?#2 - If the 12 pages before this info is as good as the post above and a few others on this page, then I need to read.#3 - We're in the beginning stages, rather early too for once, of planning a bachelor party in Vegas, probably first or second week March 2010. Any suggestions welcome. I'm thinking that is boarderline pool season, either get lucky with the weather or it's gonna be 60 degrees every day. Is priceline.com a good option for Vegas? I know if you know what you're doing, priceline can be wonderful. I've scored awesome savings twice before (DC and Cincy) but nothing as "serious" as Vegas (ie, don't want to get stuck somewhere where people will complain).Any thoughts on this stuff?

Not gonna make it through the entire thread, but what's the consensus on which sports book has the best drink service. Taking a guys trip there in September and we'll be in the sports book the entire time gambling. Last time I was there (3 years ago), we did all our sports book stuff at the venetian and if you brought your ticket to the bar at the book, they gave you 1 free drink for every $10 you had in play during a current game. If you were lucky enough to get a seat in one of the chairs, you got pretty steady service.
1. Bachelor party went well, everyone had a good time. We ended up going to Crazy Horse III (formerly the Penthouse Strip club). The club was solid, they gave us a good deal on a booth and bottle service, but the girls were too pushy for my taste. We were there mid week so that didn't help things much in terms of talent. I checked out Seamless, but for whatever reason bailed on that idea. Maybe a mistake.We hit a few buffets (Paris breakfast, Spice Market lunch). Went to the SW Stakehouse in the Wynn for our $$$ meal. All the food was very good (and expensive at SW). We of course made a run to in and out burger. I didn't have a 'dance club' going group so we didn't hit any of those. We had a few low rollers in our group so we spent a lot of time at Hooters (near one of our hotels) and a lot at Casino Royal/OSheas). We went bowling one day which was a fun non-typical vegas activity. We also went to see the show Fantasy at the Luxor which was solid. If you are willing to put in the effort these "Half price" booths which our now located up and down the strip are a great way to get tickets. Day of, starting at 9:30am you show up and buy tickets to the show you want (if they have them) for half off ticket price. The catch is you don't get your seat assignment until you go to the actual box office at the specific casino, so you have to make two trips fairly early in the morning to secure seats. We sucked it up and did it, ended up 6 rows back dead center for Fantasy for like $33/each. Would do it again.Hope that helps.2. I would go back and slowly work your way through the thread, some of the info is slightly outdated but a lot of it is still good.3. Depends entirely on your group's budget for the trip. If you have some cash look at Mandlay or Ceasers. If you're wanting to go mid level Planet Hollywood has a great vibe for a bachelor party, we spent a lot of time there even though we didn't have a room. If you're on the cheap it is tough to beat Flamingo dead center in the strip and with a great pool.

I went to the Bellagio in September of 2007, and the drinks were free in the sportsbook. I didn't really like the atmosphere, though.Planet Hollywood gives drink vouchers for ever 50 dollars spent, I believe. But they won't give them to you unless you ask.Mandalay Bay does not give drink vouchers.

Somewhere else gives vouchers...it's been a while for me though. MGM? I thought Mandalay did too if you asked, but they could have changed if my memory is even correct.

Wife and I just got back from this weekend, it was a (relative) surprise trip for the Mrs. Ill dork out and post my plans. We didnt do everything on the list, it was mostly a compilation of options.
We stayed at the Flamingo. I chose the Flamingo because it was in the middle of the stip and offered everything we needed for the best price. The pools there were great and while the clientèle wasnt upscale by any means, we were extremely satisfied. I will say that we had late check-in. I confirmed my room twice, and still when I got there at 10pm my room 'wasnt ready' and all they could offer me was the same one in a smoking. I was angry, but the room was great and we were happy. We went the GO Room route, found a deal, something like 'Pool Side' where we got 2 free drinks and the same price of a room as the regular price. If prices stay the same, I think we would stay there again in a heartbeat.We ate expensive. However one of the draws for the wife was Mario Batali and Bobby Flay. We ended up eating at B&B Ristorante, ENOTECA SAN MARCO, and Mesa Grill (twice). We were going to eat at Batali's steakhouse (Carnevino), but we cancelled our reservations for Sun eve and did the Mesa Grill for lunch and dinner that day. I would say both the B&B and Mesa Grill were awesome, worth the cake in my opinion. I think what I liked best is the portions werent foo-foo'ish like Im used to at $$$$$ restaurants. We were very full after all meals. The San Marco was nice, great even, just not as good as the other 2. Another amazing part about B&B were the wine options for the casual wine drinking. The sommelier came over and simply asked us what we liked. Im sure he inferred from our communication and recommended 4 bottles under $80 w/o asking us how much we wanted to spend, that was nice.LOVE was amazing. It was my 2nd cirque show, and while I havnt seen any of the other Vegas shows, it blew away Vareki, which was a great show. If you like the Beatles, you will love LOVE. We also had some of the best seats in the house (at about half the price)thanks to a great deal passed along (thanks Felix). We were considering seeing the 10:30 O show Fri night, but we didnt end up having time when we got in from the airport. Probably for the best as the flight was very draining.We didnt end up catching any other shows as we spent a lot of time at the pool simply relaxing. We didnt checkout the Flamingo's 'Eurpoean 21 Sunbathing' pool, but its available and optional swim wear.We did mix it up and went to the Auto Collections at the Imperial Palace. We were looking for a quick time-filler and came away very impressed. Lots of 60's and 70's Ferarri's as well as old school European racer's Took maybe an hour and we had a buy-1-get-1-free coupon so it cost $10.Also did the Eifell Tower which was 'OK' (another coupon). Timewaster as long as the line isnt long. Its a nice view, but nothing special. Also, some folks will congregate up there to watch the Bellagio fountains.To be honest, while the fountains were neat, we werent all that impressed. Maybe if we had some prime seats where we could have watched while eating a meal it could have been easier going but waiting out there for more than a single song was a bit much.Checkout cheapovegas.com, lots of good info there.Were disappointed we didnt get to the Fremont Experience. Supposed to be great at night. Same with Treasure IslandI was really surprised how difficult it was walking around the strip. All those x-walks, bridges, and even some diverted sidewalks made it just a little annoying when you are trying to walk a block and you feel you are doubling your effort.

Its slow out in Vegas. You can negotiate deals on everything right now, especially hotel rooms. Talked to a few pit bosses, sayin they've had to lay people off, clubs are closing up, its tough out there.
Venetian is the kinda place you stay with your wife. That place is awesome, pool is great, good food, etc.
PURE is overrated. We rented it out for a private party Thurs night, then open to public at 11pm, and it was dead. I'm not into clubbin anymore, maybe I left too early, but at 1am when I left it was quiet except for the rooftop bar and there was no line to get in. Caesars also seems kinda old.
There is an outside club undernath a big tent outside Harrah's that is pretty cool.
I dunno why, I really like the Rio. Pool scene sucks since teh stripper pool got shut down (some hooka propositioned a cop), and you are off the strip. I always seem to win money there I guess.

Just got back from a weekend at the Golden Nugget. I will throw out some tips to save you money.
-GN is the nicest place downtown by far. Vegas is hurting, but downtown was pretty lively.
-Taxi from airport to downtown is about $35. If you take a shuttle, buy the one-way pass, about $15. Chances are, you won't have the same company going back to the airport. If you take a cab, try to find someone at the airport who is going downtown and split the cab price.
-GN drinks are expensive if you in the sportsbook ($5.50 Corona's) Walk across the street to Binions and they are $2. You can bring them in. If you are at the tables, they are free.
-The best gambling is downtown. Low limits and many 3/2 single-deck blackjack can be found.
-Sportsbooks open at 7-8:00. Fremont is 7:00, the earliest.
-If you are going from downtown to the Strip, or vice versa, it costs roughly $15-20. Get a 24-hour bus pass for $7, or a 3-day pass for $15 and take the bus instead. You want the Deuce Line. It will stop at all the casinos on the strip. You can pick it up downtown nest to the Fremont Casino.
-The Mediterranean pool at the Encore should be on your Bucket List.

I am going in November, but I got this deal offer in the mail. 3 nights free, at the Bellagio (I got a players club card on my trip about 4 years ago, used it during my stay, did not gamble much that all, haven't used it since), 150 dollars in "freeplay or promotional chips", complimentary buffet for two, and 2 for 1 O tickets. (The deal was also good for MGM Grand, Mandalay bay, Mirage,Monte Carlo, New York New York, Luxor and Excalibur)Anyway, I called the Bellagio, just to see what the catch was (i.e. only good for weekdays, need to purchase additional nights . . . etc). No catch! So I booked a Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in late September (25th, 26th & 27th). To good of a deal to pass up.sounds like a sweet deal

Veloce bar on the 16th floor has awesome view and happy hour (Sun-Thurs). 2 for 1 mojitos and martinis, and sushi for 2 for $10.
left them some money on the craps tables but recovered most of it on video BJ and in the sports book. Sports book has mobile gaming machines, i didn't check them out but apparently you can be playing video poker while sitting in the book? Sounded cool.
it was pretty dead thursday night but picked up a bit on Fri/Sat. Still not nearly as crowded as the strip. Dealers were happy to chat and point out things (wife wanted to learn craps and they were more than happy to help, even after she tagged the stickman with a die)

Went to mandalay for dinner fri with the bride and groom. Gotta say i was not impressed with the Shanghai Lilly or the casino/bar.
Vegas had wind and a freak rain storm on Sat which dropped the temps. Made for a nice change from the 110 friday.

Also looking for sportsbooks recommendations for December (NFL). Last year we hit Mirage and stayed there all day for a full slate of NFL games. We got drink tickets with EACH bet, sometimes 2 tickets if you got the right guy. 3 of us ended up with nearly 50 tickets for the day. Went back in March and they now require $250 wager to get 1 drink ticket. WTF. The 2007 & 08 recommendations on sportsbooks have changed, anyone with any recent thoughts on where to hang for an entire day of NFL?
From my research, the hilton looks pretty good for this. Will be there in 2 weeks and will report back.
