Good info re: Andiamo, Ellis and the Aria. Thanks guys.

Another question - has anyone seen the Purple Reign (Prince) show? My wife and I are big Prince fans and have seen him live a few times. Wondering if the Purple Reign show would be fun....

Any new must see shows? Thinking absinthe one night and wife wants to see raiding the rock vault another.

Patti is long gone, any new ticket deals?

Otherwise, grinding poker is the biggest waste of a Vegas trip I can think of.
Agreed.
Grinding poker, meaning spending several hours at a poker table, is a crappy way to spend your time in Vegas BUT...
Disagree. If you are down to a couple hundy it's the best way to spend your time in Vegas. You can go for hours on $100.

Nothing is worse than being stuck in Vegas with no budget left. I've been there and also been checked out of my hotel with a flight 4 hours later. Horrible.

Leaving on Sunday for Vegas - can't wait. A few questions:

- Has anyone been to Andiamo Steakhouse at the D?

- Has anyone used Terminal 3 at McCarran? I'll claim my bags there for the first time this trip - I've heard it's WAY easier to get a cab. Are there still town cars/limos at that terminal?

- Any Ellis Island fans here? I'm planning to stop in there for the first time for some gambling. Primary reason is I joined something called "Vegas Rover" (it's a membership card for sweet deals at different places in Vegas - a startup) and they have some cashback/freeplay at Ellis.

- Aria sporstbook - I've heard they have separate viewing/wagering areas for race and sports. What's the comped drink situation at the Aria Racebook?

TIA.
Flew through Terminal 3 in May - wow is all I can say as far as cab line - like none on a Friday at 6PM. I didn't even look at how cars/limos were handled vs the old terminal.

There is a nice Pizza place next to Aria Sports book with TV's and such so I didn't actually stay in the book - plus it was nice outside so I was at pool.

Ellis Island is alright - though it has been a while since I've been in it - I used to do some consulting for harrah's and was down in basement of Bally's - so we would walk there after working for brews and the steak special which wasn't all that bad. Played some video poker and watched hockey and didn't spend a lot of time at their tables. Beer was pretty good actually - it beats the selections elsewhere which are limited to the Bud family brands for the most part at the major casinos
I was in Vegas back in May and went to Ellis Island. They had the better odds for sports books that I found. The casino isn't much, but they brew their own beer and any of their 16oz. drafts are only $2.00. :banned:

Their steak and egg breakfast special isn't bad either.

What level do you play at? I assume you're talking limit poker? You can easily lose $200 in one hand in NL poker.

Icon other than the limo what do these guys offer different than a hotel concierge?
Concierge isn't getting you walked in (no line) and free (no cover).

At least most folks aren't getting that from the concierge.

Cover at most of these clubs is anywhere from 35-100 bucks depending on night and who's playing. Women get the added benefit of open bars of varying lengths and quality. The girls he's getting into EBC Sunday Aug 10th have been promised open vodka and champagne bar from noon until 2 or 3pm. Pretty sweet.

I only ask because last time wife and I stayed at the venetian, we went to tryst, studio 54, Tao and another club. No lines no cover all using the concierge. Got another couple in with us. We didn't have free drinks or anything. And studio 54 charged me like 10 bucks.I was just curious

Really depends on the day of the week... Tryst is kinda a 2nd tier club right now as is Tao (Tao may even be 3rd tier now).... Studio 54 doesn't really count as it's not in the ring of popular/hot clubs right now. If you guys had no cover no line it was likely during the week when most 2nd and 3rd tier clubs are begging folks to come in.

Clubs like Light and Hakkassan most certainly have a cover and long lines. When I went to Hakk on thursday last oct (guestlist with 3 girls) we got there at 10:15 to get in quick at 10:30 open (had to leave at 1 due to trade show the next AM) and by 10:30 there were 200+ people in line. Cover was $45 for Danny Avilla. Cover on sat for guys like Tiesto runs $85+

Encore Beach Club is usually 45-55 cover for guys and the lines can be prohibitive after noon on big days.

Cool...actually these were tops back then. Wynn literally just opened...holy crap it was that long ago?

we did the same thing at the aria club a couple years back.

I just know it was cool to skip the lines :) Tao was packed  but like I said that was sometime ago

Gotcha... ya then things have changed a good bit since then! I do no tryst and tao were huge back when Wynn just opened. Very cool that the concierge was able to set ya up. That's likely reserved for high rollers at this point.

Well truth be told....the venetian screwed up our reservation so we got bumped to a 700 Sq ft suite with open bar from 5 to 8 and concierge service.that may had something to do with it. :)

Aria just worked

Thanks for the info we are heading back probably next year

In. 8/8 - 8/11.
8/12 - 8/15 here. Not trying to make you guys jealous, but I ordered some Celine Dion tickets today. Who needs pool parties and sexy girls in bikinis?
Saw her last year out there. You won't be disapointed.

Hey, I didn't get on here and bash you for spending :moneybag: just to convince a pretty girl to hang with you.

The OP is older than Moses. Does anyone care to bang out a quick list of top 10 hotels? The wife and I are going in February.
Aria

Wynn

Cosmopolitan

Vdara

Bellagio

Caesar's

Mandalay Bay

Venetian

Planet Hollywood

Mirage
The Venetian would be my choice. I've stayed at most of the hotels on this list, and the Venetian is the best one. The standard room is great. The poker room is awesome. And the restaurants are top notch - I've had awesome meals at Bouchon and Delmonico's. And the Grand Lux Cafe is open 24 hours and has some pretty darn good breakfast.February rates should be pretty good so it's worth staying at a nice place like the Venetian.

Anyone booking the Linq?

It's scheduled to open late October. This is the former Quad and former Imperial Palace. They poured a bunch of money into the remodeling and it looks great.

I know that smell you're talking about and they seem to have addressed it. I didn't notice it when we went in a few weeks ago. I actually mentioned it to my wife.

The smell is called "Arancia" and they spend tens of thousands to atomize it and pump it into the properties:

Actually, it was our anniversary. We went to Celine Dion concert, saw Beatles Love show at the Mirage, took a helicopter to the Grand Canyon and still had time to win about $2K on slots and roulette. No problem Icon, you give excellent info and advice. I enjoy reading about the younger side of Vegas.

Hmm, I thought it was just like carpet cleaner or something. They must have turned it off for the day I was there because I couldn't smell it and I was expecting it when I walked in.

My wife and I did the Grand Canyon helicopter thing. It was awesome.Sounds like a really great adult trip.

Touchdown in Vegas on Sunday. Getting pumped. I typically go 1-3 times per year and I always get all moist just ahead of the trip.

PSA - I stumbled upon a site called Vegas Rover (vegas rover dot com) that is sort of like a coupon book for Vegas without coupons. I purchased a card (looks like a slot club card) that I can use for deals at a variety of casinos. As of today it is good primarily downtown but sounds like some strip properties will be added soon - it's a startup and they seem to be building steam quickly. Anyway, some examples of the deals I'm going to use on this trip:

- $25 match play at The D

- BOGO room rate at The D

- $20 tickets to see Purple Reign at the D

- $15 match play at Ellis Island

- $50 slot loss instant rebate at Ellis Island

The above is easily going to cover the cost of the card for me on just my first visit. If you visit even a couple of times per year it seems like a great deal. I guess I'll find out during this trip if it's easy to use and truly worth it. I'm not a big coupon clipper or anything but somehow Vegas Rover caught my eye.

It's also worth noting that The D has been very aggressive and savvy in the last couple of years. Owner Derek Stevens has made it a priority to get connected via SoMe and podcasts like FiveHundyByMidnight. I listen to that podcast which is where The D originally caught my ear. I know the Fitzgerald was always known as a dump - hoping The D is completely different.

Disclaimer - I am not affiliated with Vegas Rover or The D in any way - I am simply a new customer to both who is hoping they're worth the time. Just passing the info about them along here in case anyone else sees value. I'll report back post-trip on my stay at the D and my use of the Rover card in case anyone is interested.

Did the pool party thing for the first time on my last Vegas trip as the best man of a bachelor party at the advice of the folks here.

Everyone dug it. Daybed by the pool with booze and food (which was actually pretty good) flowing faster than we could consume it while the peasants waited in ridiculous lines. Had a good spot (again got the lowdown from the folks here) so the ladies were flowing in and out all day. The single guys ( :kicksrock: ) were batting way out of their league. I was trying not to flirt (wifey hates it) but could barely keep them away.

Several hundy very well spent and it still leaves plenty of time for gambling. As someone else mentioned most of us spent our early 20's dropping 3-digits/night several times a week going out. An afternoon in Vegas once a year for that price? No sweat.

I enjoy chilling at a more low key pool and smuggling in our booze when it's just me and the wife as well. But for a guy's trip the pool parties are tough to beat. I love gambling, but I've never left Vegas and thought "man I wish I had spent MORE time at the tables".
What do you play? If you play poker, I find it hard to believe that you wouldn't want more time at the tables
BJ and craps.

Poker? In Vegas? Only when the BJ/craps goes south and you're down in a big hole and need to grind back some money. Otherwise, grinding poker is the biggest waste of a Vegas trip I can think of.
I dunno. There are 24 hours in a day--plenty of time to grind some poker out and party your ### off. I typically only need a power nap when I'm in Vegas.

Anyone ever do a side trip to Zion National Park?
We did Zion as part of a Salt Lake(stayed in Park City)/St George/ Vegas trip. Coming out of the mountains down toward Vegas is a really cool drive. Everything just flattens out. I don't think I'd want to do it as a day trip from Vegas though. That would be like 5 hours just driving back and forth. St. George is a nice town to stay in though.

Sure, but during the non party your ### off time BJ and craps are much better options than poker grinding unless you're deep in the black already.

It's funny, I moved to SLC from the southeast and also loved that drive down towards Vegas the first time I did it. Then I came back and told some of the locals I'd met that I went down to Vegas and the first thing they said was "omg that drive is so boring".

It's all relative, I guess. The most "boring" drive out here blows away anything I had in my area growing up.

To each their own. I get raped in BJ (I've never played craps) and usually win fairly big in poker. I also like the social aspect of poker a little more. Blackjack just doesn't do anything for me but I understand that I'm probably in the minority.

I think most of the drive is pretty boring but down those mountains south of St. George and opening up into Nevada is cool.

I believe the Virgin River Gorge is what you're thinking of.

One of the cool parts about that, beyond the scenery, is that you're dropping about 4000 feet off a plateau. When you get to the bottom you look back and see what appear to be these giant cliffs. Then you think about it, and up there is where you were driving for the last 5 hours without even realizing it.

Exactly! I kept looking in my rear view mirror in amazement. Awesome sight!

8/12 - 8/15 here. Not trying to make you guys jealous, but I ordered some Celine Dion tickets today. Who needs pool parties and sexy girls in bikinis?
Saw her last year out there. You won't be disapointed.
Did I accidentally log into homoguys.com?
Hey, I didn't get on here and bash you for spending :moneybag: just to convince a pretty girl to hang with you.
 Ahh...if you only knew...

And cmon... you're raving about the celine dion exeperience on a football board. What do you expect :lmao:

All good man... just some playful ballbusting.
And in all honesty... I'm sure the Celine Dion tickets were not cheap... and only done so his wife would hang out with him.
My wife and I did the Grand Canyon helicopter thing. It was awesome.Sounds like a really great adult trip.
How about more info on the Grand Canyon helicopter thing!
Look up Maverick Tours. They operate from McCarran and will pick you up at the hotel. www.maverickhelicopter.com

What time does your flight get in?
