To each their own. I get raped in BJ (I've never played craps) and usually win fairly big in poker. I also like the social aspect of poker a little more. Blackjack just doesn't do anything for me but I understand that I'm probably in the minority.

Your not. Lots of card players on this board. I don't have anywhere nearby to play so, when I go, poker is my primary reason for being there. Black Jack bores me to tears. I do enjoy craps as a break from the poker room. But poker is the main attraction.

nowhere close to play when I'm at home, so trips to Vegas are my main opportunity. Plus, the games there at low stakes are pretty soft, especially on weekends. I can play blackjack and drink anytime I want.

With my ADD, live poker is pretty tedious.

What time does your flight get in?

5:30ish

Cab line shouldn't be too bad then. We have an international flight that's scheduled to arrive at 4:20 for its second flight here (last week was the first). First flight got here at 7. If this thing is on time, I'd expect the cab line to be a bit crazier than usual. Sunday is really awful from 2-4 as we have a 777, two 747's and a 330 that get in in between 1:30-3:00.

Yup, I do security with a few of the international airlines. There's times when I come in about an hour after a British Airways flight or a Virgin Atlantic flight and can see the cab line is absolutely ravaged with passengers from their flights. I know when I flew on Virgin, it took roughly an hour to go through customs and get our bags.

I honestly forget how much it was. I did it a couple years ago. But look around online. I know I found two different prices for the same thing and one was much lower.They picked us up in a limo from the hotel and took us to the airport. We went through some video training stuff and then we hopped in a helicopter and went to the Grand Canyon. Seeing Hoover dam from the sky was cool. The helicopter landed at the bottom of the canyon and we had a picnic/champagne lunch. Then it was back in the copter and back to Vegas.

I think it took about 3-4 total hours. Really good time.

ETA: try to do the evening one because they fly down the strip at the end and it's awesome when the lights are on.

The Venetian would be my choice. I've stayed at most of the hotels on this list, and the Venetian is the best one. The standard room is great. The poker room is awesome. And the restaurants are top notch - I've had awesome meals at Bouchon and Delmonico's. And the Grand Lux Cafe is open 24 hours and has some pretty darn good breakfast.

February rates should be pretty good so it's worth staying at a nice place like the Venetian.

Venetian is nice, but also owned by Sheldon Adelson.

But man I love that place...

Touchdown in Vegas on Sunday. Getting pumped. I typically go 1-3 times per year and I always get all moist just ahead of the trip.

PSA - I stumbled upon a site called Vegas Rover (vegas rover dot com) that is sort of like a coupon book for Vegas without coupons. I purchased a card (looks like a slot club card) that I can use for deals at a variety of casinos. As of today it is good primarily downtown but sounds like some strip properties will be added soon - it's a startup and they seem to be building steam quickly. Anyway, some examples of the deals I'm going to use on this trip:

- $25 match play at The D

- BOGO room rate at The D

- $20 tickets to see Purple Reign at the D

- $15 match play at Ellis Island

- $50 slot loss instant rebate at Ellis Island

The above is easily going to cover the cost of the card for me on just my first visit. If you visit even a couple of times per year it seems like a great deal. I guess I'll find out during this trip if it's easy to use and truly worth it. I'm not a big coupon clipper or anything but somehow Vegas Rover caught my eye.

It's also worth noting that The D has been very aggressive and savvy in the last couple of years. Owner Derek Stevens has made it a priority to get connected via SoMe and podcasts like FiveHundyByMidnight. I listen to that podcast which is where The D originally caught my ear. I know the Fitzgerald was always known as a dump - hoping The D is completely different.

Disclaimer - I am not affiliated with Vegas Rover or The D in any way - I am simply a new customer to both who is hoping they're worth the time. Just passing the info about them along here in case anyone else sees value. I'll report back post-trip on my stay at the D and my use of the Rover card in case anyone is interested.

The site does look like garbage but that isn't really the point (though it will hurt them in getting new customers, I agree). I'm back from my trip and used the deals I listed in the original post. It was easy to use and the deals were pretty good I thought. I'll post more about my trip when I have time - just getting my bearings again.
