I've always wondered why someone would walk up to a $10 craps table and put $50 on the pass line and then put $50 odds when they could do $10 on the pass and $90 on the odds. And these amounts are just representative.

Why not minimize the pass line bet and maximize the odds bets?
The amount you can place behind your pass line bet differs by casino. You could only do what you are suggesting if the casino was offering at least 10x odds.

At a $10 table, I might put $10 behind the pass line on a point of 4 or 10 and $50 behind a point of 6 or 8.
Of course the table has to allow it. My larger point is why do anything above the min on the pass line and as much as possible on the odds? For comp purposes maybe?
I don't have an answer for what I think you are asking. The only time it makes sense to me is if you wager a larger amount then the minimum pass line bet times the maximum odds will allow. This wasn't your example though.

A few pages back someone was saying the casino doesn't rate you on your odds bet since there is no advantage there for them. So it's possible someone might do this for comp purposes, but doubt it worth it.

If it's for comp purposes it's a horrible mistake. No one gives you much credit for Paas/Come bets.

I think some people just can't bring themselves to bet the minimum for whatever reason. Lots of people also don't understand the odds for various bets on the craps table. I had someone argue with me once that placing a number has a smaller house edge than a Come bet with odds on that same number. His rationale was that it "takes hitting the number twice" to win the come bet w/ odds and "only once" if you place it.

Just ate at Mon Ami Gabi for breakfast on Saturday on the patio. Love this place.
It's my go-to on prettty much every trip. HAVE to get a table on the rail outside though.
Any tips for making this happen?
It's vegas.. Money talks for everything. For me, usually call ahead then tip $20 or so at the hostess stand and let them know I'm willing to wait w few mins. Always gets me the next 4 top along the rail. Small investment for a much better experience IMO.This is usually for sat/Sun brunch. I imagine dinner or peak times may require 30-40? Maybe not?

Generic Vegas question: going this weekend last min for my cousin's wedding. Saturday night he wants the Vegas strip club experience. Best suggestions for club/limo service there? Would prefer not to spend Chet bucks at the club.
Best trick to have fun without spending Chet bucks in the back... bring a stack of $2 bills. I brought 100 $2 bills to the Rhino and spread them around the group I was with. We were pretty much swarmed the whole night.
Forgot to mention in my update earlier, but we did venture out to Spearmint Rhino on Saturday night. Calling for the limo is the absolute only way to do it. Big stretch limo picked us up at The Palazzo and drove us to the club to the back entrance. Tipped the driver and the bouncer who got us a table. No cover (would have been $88) for our party of four and no tab fare (guessing $30 from where we were).

The club itself was nothing special, almost run down in some areas and way too dark, but I spent a bit of time in VIP and had a good time overall. Just be careful ordering drinks back there.
How about telling us more about what else you ordered back there?
Nothing special. Spent $100 for 15 mins back there. Crown and Coke for me and a Cherry Bomb for her ran $40. The dancing was a bit more intense, but nothing special. She might have flashed her starfish at one point, but it was too dark to tell.

She tried to talk me into much more money and time, but the 15 min let me know if I wanted more, I would have better options elsewhere.

Back from two quick nights at Cosmopolitan. Really packed in the fun...

Chandelier Bar (3 drinks comped by playing video poker)

Social hour appetizers at STK and Scarpetta

Hozier concert at the Chelsea

- 4 hours sleep -

walked the strip (Encore is still my favorite property)

Cocktails on the terrace

Dinner at China Poblano

St Vincent concert at the pool

My friend hit a hand pay in the new Superman machine

Marquee

Drai's

- 3 hours sleep -

Gambling and off to the airport

Thoughts on China Poblano?

China Poblano - I tried a taco, lamb potstickers, and scallop ceviche. My friend had tacos. We both ordered the margarita flight.

Tacos and lamb were all awesome. Ceviche was good, not great. Margaritas had a sea salt foam on them instead of lining the rim of the glass...a nice twist that also tasted really good.

Fun atmosphere with the mixture of cultures on the wall (armadillos and kabuki masks).

Reasonably priced for a meal in Cosmo - comparable to Holsteins if you stick to tacos and small plates.

I'm sure it's been asked a million times in here but "search" sucks. Best way to get deals on lodging in Las Vegas? Buddies are planning a football weekend late September. Prefer to stay Center Strip.

hotwire and priceline express are still the best ways to find good rates, though they are nowhere near as reliable as they used to be. I just got Palazzo for $100/night and am pretty happy with that. Of course, you can't get a room in vegas without getting bent over for a $20+ per night "resort fee". Total bs but every hotel does it now.

to get the most out of hotwire and priceline xpress use betterbidding.com, and don't buy until you're reasonably certain what hotel you are getting. and always check other sites including the actual hotel site before confirming. it's nowhere near as foolproof as it used to be

Thanks man. Yeah, I actually found that the same room on Harrah's website is cheaper than on Hotwire (fairly certain it's Harrah's). We just want a central place to stay, especially because we figure to spend most of our betting time at the Mirage and the rest of our time out. Just need cheap, decent beds mid-strip.

I just stayed at the Linq for March madness. Very reasonable and right across the street from the Mirage. Not bad at all for the price.

It's Vegas so if you feel like gambling the $20 front desk tip trick may result in getting your resort fee's waived. Did this recently asking for a higher room with a good view (I didn't specify but this usually results in a pool or strip view). She mentioned the resort fees as I was checking in and I just said ok. Those resort fees never showed up on my card. Honestly, I didn't care about the view was just hoping to pay $20 to save much more. YMMV.

The $20 tip is the best investment you can make in Vegas. I've also received free spa passes from the tip which is a pretty nice value if you dig the spa. (There is no better way to beat a hangover than sweating it out in the steam room.)

Guinness.

Yeah - the "sandwich trick" has never failed for me. I had to go to $50 at the Bellagio, but I did get a he suite out of it.

Casino really only rates across bets on dice now. Need to be laying somewhere in the range of 250 across to even hit the radar.

You sandwich the $20 between your license and credit card.
Funny that this actually works these days. Very old school thing to do. Has a front desk person ever not accepted it? Or can they all be bought for $20?

Yardbird at the Venetian is fairly new and is pretty amazing.
OMG:

Short Rib n’ Grits

18 oz. bone in short rib, charred corn, haricot vert, sweet garlic bordelaise
Had the fried chicken, watermelon and waffles last night. Pretty awesome esp. the fried chicken. Biscuits were so-so as a side.
Might hit Vegas mid June and will be going to the Yardbird to get that Short Rib n' Grits!

Depends on the place and what you're asking for.

TIPS:

• Do research : If you've reserved a room, have in mind what sort of upgrade you're looking for.

• Be realistic about what you expect. Don't go in with a base-level room and ask for the Trump Suite.

• Be kind and discreet. Don't have to act like you're selling nuclear secrets, but also don't yell what you're asking for.

Some hotels are known for not going for it. This website details success/failure stories.

Vegas challenge tonight!

Go to airport after class. Fly to Vegas. Party and gamble. Fly back in time for class tomorrow.

We'll be mostly at the Bellagio, so I doubt my budget can handle Blackjack like usual (their $10 min is also 6 deck with continuous shuffle, ugh).

I'm thinking craps becomes my game instead. Any thoughts?

Has anyone stayed at Harrahs recently? Would be taking wife and that's where our friends are staying but she may want something a tad nicer so might look at Venetian

Venetian is a lot nicer. Try the Linq, they have removed all traces of Imperial Palace from the casino and the rooms.

I stayed at Harrahs a couple weeks ago. Room was serviceable and clean. Venetian would be better for sure, but what I would pay for that, I am not sure.

I'm double booked to take advantage of show tickets. If someone wants a free room($28 a night for RFs) for two nights on May 19/20, currently at Linq but should be able to switch to Harrah's or Flamingo, let me know.

This stopped working for me in the past few attempts. Tried and failed at Caesars twice, just a flat out and immediate "no, we don't do that". Also failed at Trump and Aria. Last try was at the Bellagio and used $50 instead, thinking it was a more upscale place. Desk clerk got on the phone for a bit and effectively said, we can't give you a room upgrade but we'll "take care of you with some special gifts". I was like, ok lets see what this is all about. 2 days later i got a "gift pack" with 2 bottles of water, some crappy candy, & nuts

Interestingly, the last place it worked for me was Palazzo 2 years ago, so I'm going to try it again this next trip. Anyway, that website stopped posting success/fail stories 1-2 years ago. So i'm assuming they call that a sign.

I think the 20 dollar trick has been dead for some time. Last time I went to the venetian the very first thing they brought out was this menu of room upgrades with a list of up charges right next to it I mean they brought it out before I even said hello. I made a comment like, can we settle this here without any fuss, not really knowing how best to play it off and just gave up after they danced around what I was after.

When I checked in at the Paris one time she couldn't get me an upgraded room and she gave it back to me. I was surprised to say the least.

The last time I was in town was 4 years ago so I'm not surprised that this may have stopped working. The house wants the $$, they don't want to give it to the employees.

It used to be when you got a ticket to a Vegas show it was numbered but not to a specific seat. It was all about what you tipped the door man.

Just booked for the Linq in mid July, central to my favorite spots and had the best deal. Fully intend on making first attempt at $20 trick to see how it goes.

It's strange how actually booking it makes the trip seem more real, vs just having it planned and knowing 99% it will happen.

great deals available at some 5 star properties in mid to late July. Yeah, i know...July in the desert but how much time do you spend outside there anyway? Both wynn and encore have rooms for ~$130 per night range, and hotwire is listing Trump as low as $70. Also that $100 palazzo deal has popped up again. Absolutely cannot beat the Palazzo at $100/nt IMO

Went 2 for 2 on a 4 Night trip in Nov 2014

$20 at Cosmopolitan got an Terrace Studio with private balcony and strip view from base comped city room for 2 nights.

Then transferred over to Caesar's Palace and got an upgrade to the Augustus Tower with a bigger/nicer room (refused $20 but upgraded me with a smile).

I was in town for a tradeshow and my GF's bday (shared room with her and two of her girlfriends)... but was in a suit and alone when I approached an threw the charm on the cute asianed girl behind the counter. Augustus tower is definitely home to nicer rooms. Looking at their site it was an "Augustus Tower Luxury" Room.
