I was super annoyed with obnoxious sportsbook/blackjack/craps people last week.  Maybe I'm becoming an old grump as I approach 40 or maybe it was because I was flying solo in Vegas.  I'm all for some excitement in those three realms, but every ####### play in basketball doesn't need clapping and yelling (somehow one of these idiots was always around me).  I must have just picked the worst blackjack table on my final night...seemed like half the people that rolled through wanted to cheer every hand.  And quit telling me good luck on my Ace when it only pays 6/5, leave that for the dealer that has her boobs in my face.  Really I'd rather have a low card to double on a dealer bust draw anyways.   :rant:

I despise the people who give me an attitude when clapping early on in a game.  I'm there to cheer, and cheer loudly on my bets.

No it's not every play.. But if I have a bigger bet on it or close to halftime or end of game then yep lots of clapping

Quick access to the Linq/Harrah's for a different vibe, but also basically mid strip for the upper scale casinos if you wanted to head across the street. The street/area between Flamingo and Linq has a bunch of places to eat and drink and people watch. The rooms at the Flamingo are probably the worst part and I even had a GO room, but for the amount of time you spend in the room, and the price, it's not that bad.

this is my take on Flamingo as well. I wouldn't stay there if I didn't at least have a GO room though. Due to schedule conflicts we had to stay in one of their older rooms on like the 5th floor and it was a total disaster. GO rooms and above are doable. And yeah the gaming floor is right there off the street, very easy walk over to Cromwell, Paris.

It's the constant obnoxiousness.  I can handle you.  I'll move if I can't, no biggie to me.  It's not like he was the only person cheering out loud for them.  He's just the person that needs the entire book to know who he's rooting for every 20 seconds.  Standing up right in front of me, yelling at his people (or maybe randoms) a few seats down....enough.

Usually, those are the people with $10 on the game.  Anyone who's playing with a serious bankroll that's doing that is a moron.  You're just begging to get rolled in the bathroom mid 4th quarter if things are going your way.  I learned really early at the racetrack and my grandfather's knee that you don't EVER let on that you're winning big.  Always play it casual.

 
I stayed at Harrah's a couple of weeks ago in the Valley tower that had redone rooms; the room and bathroom was very nice. For the price of Harrah's with the location, I think you get a great value. 

 
I love Mandalay Bay.  Great restaurants and nice rooms.  I like being away from centre strip sometimes.  Fewer gawkers.  

 
For seafood lovers, there is an oyster bar in palace station that is absolutely amazing.  The problem is all the seating is at the bar and there is usually a 1-2 hour wait.  However, it's open 24 hours and if you're willing to go in the morning (between 9 and 10) there is no wait.  They cook the food in front of you.  Best seafood pan roast and gumbo I've ever had.

I've heard about that gumbo a few times...but never willing to wait in line or get up early enough.

I played in the nightly Venetian rebuy tournament the other night. $120 entry, $100 rebuys. 65 players plus rebuys. It paid 7 places. I played in that damn thing for six hours until 2 AM and got knocked out in 8th place.

But, had an absolute blast playing craps downtown last night with my buddies. We all won a bunch of money and had a rocking craps table for a few hours. Really good time.

Tacos El Gordo next to Encore is delicious. The spicy pork tacos rock hard and they have Orange Bang! 

I'm still full from a 11am lunch.

I wouldn't wait that long in line for anything but if you're willing to eat a seafood breakfast, you'll be in for a treat.  Also, I believe palace station will be doing some renovations next year and they're going to open up more seating at this place.  There is a reason why there is a 1-2 hour wait at pretty much all hours for a 24/7 place.   :shrug:  

 
The Poke nachos at Yard house for $8 during happy hour is the best damn thing ever. Also $2 off craft beers for HH as well.

Made a last minute trip w/my brother ...... watched games at the Westgate Sat and Sun, sat right at the bar, terrific view, and a drink ticket with each $50 bet (with a tip they give you more). We had way too many drink tickets. Buckets of Bud Light/Bud are $10 ($3 each), but a single Coors light bottle is $9. It was priceless watching people come up to the bar and getting a beer w/o a drink ticket but at least the bartender would warn them of the price. The drink tickets are also good for any bottled beer (Stella, Heineken, Guiness, etc). I was telling a few of the guys to just go make a $50 bet on each side of a game (you'll lose $5), tip the guy a buck with each $50 bet, and you'll have about 4-6 drink tickets for a whopping cost of $7ish instead of paying $9 a beer. Better yet, just make some bets and enjoy the games.

Anyway great book at the Westgate with the renovations. Fantastic views from everywhere, easy drink tickets, solid beer choices.

Gotta try that Tacos El Gordo next time, saw the huge lines and wondered what the hell that dive place was.

Was hard to find $5 craps tables. We played at Ellis Island, and also downtown at Main Street Station and Downtown Grand, all 10x+ odds.

Also highly recommend the happy hour at the Triple 7 brewpub at Main Street Station downtown. They make some good beer ($3 for 23oz glass 3-6pm M-F, and they let you pre-pay drinks right at 6pm before it ends) and some good bar food for happy hour. Never tried their normal menu but supposed to be very good. Seems to always be crowded.

Haven't been in 6 years, flying out Saturday.....couple nights of fun before conference Monday. Suggestions? Me and a buddy. Anything new?

 
Spent Thursday through Sunday in Vegas for bachelor party.

Took me two full days to recover...have no idea how I worked or got anything done on Monday/Tuesday.

We arrive on Thursday around 8pm while half of the crew was arriving around midnight.

We didn't have plans for that four hour window...so I just uber'd us to Four Kegs for their wings (not bad at all) and continued on downtown.

Stopped at Atomic Liquors just so the guys could experience the oldest bar in Vegas (pen stabbing bar scene in Casino).

We walked over to Hogs & Heifers and drink, party and play pool until other guys showed up.

We end up over at Gold Spike where it's basically an adult playground.  They've got huge dart boards, cornhole boards, elongated foosball table, pool tables, giant Operation game, huge wall sized Connect Four.  Just a lot of dumb stuff for drunk guys to compete at...it was perfect for us.

Went back to rooms and partied some more.

Next day, headed over to Top Golf.  It's very cool...but looking back now...pricey for what you get.  We had 12 guys at that point...two booths.  We only got about 10 swings in within an hour.  Food is awesome...definitely try the rock shrimp.  They have cornhole and shuffleboard and a full bar...so lots to do there.

Things get blurry from here on out...

I remember going to Hakkasan...or as I like to call it, "Hakkasteps".  You gotta go up five freaking floors of steps to get in this thing and then it's mass humanity...packed wall to wall.  Three of us slither our way down to the DJ booth...dance and party there until we hit another couple of clubs.  Ended the night at Chateau.  Open air bar/club...not bad.

Next day some hit the pool, some hit the sportsbook and some watch the games back at the rooms.  We all end up back at the rooms for the actual bachelor party.  I'll leave it at that...but great time was had by all.

I really don't remember Saturday night...oh wait, we hit that Linq ferris wheel.  Get the groupon for it...$40 for all you can drink.  Amazing views and I pounded six (6) Ketel Orange and OJ's down.  One of the other guys pounded down eight (8) Tito's and soda's.  So you can get more than your money's worth in that 35 minutes it takes to do the revolution.  More partying after that...I remember playing beer pong at a private section at Rock House...but after that...who knows.

We had a party shuttle that took us from rooms to wherever...think it was like $90.  12 of us minimum...sometimes as many as 16 or so in our party.  About the only way to travel when you break it down for that many people.

Sunday was just recovery and drive back.

Won a little but can't believe we all missed on that over for UNC/Oregon game.

Last thought...that really is just a bit TOO much partying in Vegas.  Honestly...I remember thinking, my God...we still have two more days of this craziness?!

First of all let me say that I've never been to Vegas. I've always wanted to go but just haven't done so yet. Well I have been following this thread for well over a year now and I am proud to say that I finally talked the wife in to getting on a plane and flying cross country to LAS VEGAS.  :headbang:

Now, I've done a lot of research already but I would like to hear suggestions from you guys. We are going to go a couple of weeks before Christmas. More specifically 12/10-12/14 of this year. It seems like the rates are down at this time. Is it dead this time of year? I'm 90% sure that we are going to get a Wraparound Terrace Suite. I've found a pretty decent deal through Costco Travel and think that I'm getting ready to pull the trigger. Anyone have good luck using Costco Travel? I can get a little cheaper using Expedia, maybe a few hundred bucks, but I would feel more comfortable using Costco I think. 

Anyway I'll be asking a lot of questions in here about a number of things including restaurants, shows, and other things as well. 

1st question. Is it worth it for me to play the My Vegas game in order to get discounts on things like show tickets, buffets, etc.? Also, is Facebook the only place to play this or is there some sort of website or app for that?

One more question. Should I go ahead and sign up for players cards now or just wait until I get there?

If you can get a better deal on rooms using Expedia--use expedia over costco.  Expedia is not some sort of gimmicky website. I've used expedia in the past and I've never had any issues with my hotel reservations--so I see zero reason to choose Costco over Expedia if it's more expensive.  I personally love Vegas in December because I love cooler weather.  You won't really be able to do day parties or clubs at the pool--but I think you'll still have a wonderful time as there is plenty to do.   My best advice is to not "overplan" things if this is your first time in Vegas.  You'll want to leave time slots open to explore and to be nimble.  Vegas is one of those cities where you kinda want to have some freedom to "go with the flow". You guys will find things that you will like doing that are not really "forecastable" and filling your schedule before you arrive would limit the chances of this happening. I would wait until you get to vegas to sign up for players cards--as they will sometimes offer heavier promotions around the holidays for signing up. You might get some free play or some dining credits.    When you say wraparound terrace suite--are you talking the Cosmo? If so--those are absolutely fantastic rooms.   I think Vdara also has wraparound suites--but I'm not sure if theirs have terraces.

Yes, at the Cosmo. Sorry about that. I would actually prefer the Panoramic Suite at Vdara but my wife is a smoker and the balcony would keep her from having to make a long walk to go smoke. I can deal with the Cosmo.

Definitely book tickets to Absinthe...don't worry about seats.  Get a back table and you'll have it made.

Have at least one meal at Yardbird.

Everything else is optional and these guys will throw out some stuff to fill in the blanks.

On our annual boys trip this last November I insisted we go to Yardbird based on this thread. We were staying st Venetian so easy peasy. Everyone loved it.  My one buddy is married to the heiress of a large ammo company and they go to the Shot Show every Jan/Feb in Vegas. Rent out 5 star restaurants including the Wynn steakhouse to wine and dine business partners every year. He loved it so much he took the heiress when they were there this winter. Both declared the chicken and waffles top 3 meal they have EVER had in Vegas and maybe numero uno. These kids have been around. Anyway that gives an idea how good it is. Also thanks for making my fat ### a hero to my rich ####### friends.

That sounds like a good idea. We've been to a Cirque show @ Disney World and really enjoyed it. Do you have a suggestion for one in Vegas? We like more action and acrobatics. 

I'm also going to keep checking the concerts going on during my stay. Who are some of the resident performers in Vegas currently?

Ka will be right up your alley then.

It's martial arts good vs evil with a 40 foot tall stage.  I say tall because the stage actually lifts up and goes completely upright.

One of the acrobats fell and died and another who does the wheel of death fell and was in ICU for a while.

I say that just to set the stage of how on the edge these guys are in this show.

I personally loved Zumanity...it's basically a topless Cirque show.  Amazing and sexy.

I got married in Vegas a couple of weeks ago, the sweet sixteen/elite eight weekend. Was an awesome time. We stayed at the Venetian Wed-Mon. Had about 65 guests total. For our "reception" we rented out half a floor at Top Golf for four hours. It was amazing. Ate at Yardbird, Joe's Stone Crab, and Craftsteak. Saw Love and Absinthe. Ready to go back for football season

Some shows take some time off in December. If there's a show you really want to see, call and find out.

Went out on Friday, came back on Wednesday. I was the walking dead by the time I got back. Still worth it.

Not only can I not believe it, I don't. I have never, not once, had to pick another hotel because the one I wanted was full. If they were running at 90+% the chances of a specific hotel being full would be quite high.

Not hard to believe at all. It's about the sheer size of the resorts.  The MGM Grand has over 5000 rooms.  Even if it was 95% occupied--you'd still be looking at 250+ rooms available.  The Luxor has over 4000 rooms, the Venetian/Palazzo joint property over 7000 rooms, Mandalay Bay over 4000 rooms, and so on and so on.   Also- if you look at Vegas over recent years--resorts like the Riviera, the Frontier, the Stardust, and the Westward Ho have been imploded and no developments have been completed in their place yet (they are in the process of building an asian themed mega resort called "Resorts World" in the area around where the Stardust/Frontier used to be)--so the city currently does not have a major surplus of rooms.  Believe it or not--a 90+% occupancy rate for rooms on the strip leaves room for improvement in the eyes of many Vegas travel analysts.
