Leaving for Vegas Monday with a group of guys from Houston. We are playing in the WSOP $1,500 NL Hold'em tournament (event #12) which starts Tuesday. Hopefully, the poker Gods will be smiling on us.
WSOP Event #12 write-up

Starting Stack: $7,500, level 1 blinds 25/50

Turns out I was at a very good table for me. Mostly a bunch of tight amateurs (like myself) and one semi-aggressive player who may have been a pro. I was able to limp into some pots, caught some flops and was able to get my stack up to about $9,000 by the end of level 1.

Early in level 2 (blinds 50/100) a new player came to our table and sat at the seat to my left. He had the starting stack of $7,500 so he was a late registrant who had just entered the tournament. In his first hand, I am in early position and look down at pocket Aces. Sweet! I raise to $250 (2.5 times the BB was the standard raise at our table). The player to my left calls and two others also call. Not so sweet. The flop comes 4-4-2 with 2 spades. That is a pretty good flop for me, other than the spades, so after the Big blind checks I raise to $600. The player to my left calls and the other two players fold. The turn is a red J so I lead out with $1,500. After pondering a bit, the player to my left calls. The river is a red 10 so no flush or straight possibilities are on the board. I bet $2,000 and new player goes into the tank. He starts eyeing my chip stack which was probably about $8,800 when I started the hand so I had him covered. Finally he says “all-in”. Damn. Now it is my turn to think. What could he have that would beat me? Trip 4’s? possibly, but probably only with A4 suited or maybe 54 suited. Weak hands to call a preflop bet. Pocket deuces? Again possibly, but he would have had to call my pre-flop raise with players to act behind him. What would he have gone to the river with that I could beat? The only real possibility seemed to be a busted flush draw, probably with two high spades (neither of my aces were spades). I finally called and was pleased to see him turn over AQ of spades. I am up to $16.8K in chips and the player to my left is gonzo after one hand.

After that I start getting great cards. I am staying out of most hands but when I do get in a hand I am catching cards on the flop. Top pair, a couple sets, one hand I checked in the big blind with 83 and catch two pair on the flop and that becomes a full house when a 3 comes on the river. Another hand I call in the big blind with 95 (multiple players in the pot). After everyone checking on the flop, I call a bet on the turn with 478J on the board. I have a belly buster draw where a 6 or 10 will complete my straight and a 10 comes on the river. The original raiser calls my $2,000 river bet and my stack increases. Over levels 3 and 4 I was able to build my stack up to $36.8k.

As we are nearing the end of level 4, I notice that the possible pro at the table who is 3 seats to my left seems to be getting in every hand I am in, usually raising me preflop. Because of his position I am acting before him most of the time. I make a conscious decision to stay out of hands where he has not acted and I do not have premium hands. Now the cards also start slowing down for me. Thus, I am folding most of the time preflop.

Level 5 and 6 are uneventful until the very end. A lot of preflop folding. I am able to pick up a pot here or there to keep my stack in the mid 30’s k. one other item of note is another aggressive player joined our table during level 3. He is a young guy and sort of jerk. He is not a bad player, but I don’t think he is a pro. He is raising a lot of hands preflop and winning with his aggressive play. He is also putting guys to a decision by raising shorter stacks with all-in bets. He wins several of these and loses maybe one or two. On two of the hands he went all-in with he had J3(suited) and in another K10. I realize I should be careful if I am get in a big hand with this guy. Unfortunately, I am not careful enough.

Level 6 is the last level before a 90 minute dinner break. We get to the last hand of the level and as players are folding their hands they are getting up to leave for the break. It gets to me in the cut-off seat and I have AJ off.  I raise to $1,500 (blinds are 250/500) figuring I can hopefully steal the blinds. The button and the small blind fold, but the big blind, who is the aggressive player who joined in level 3, looks at his cards and announces all-in. I am a little bit stunned by this because I wasn’t expecting it. I have him covered (He has about 20K, I have about 32K left in my stack). I have seen him make all-in bets with very weak hands and I know he has identified me as someone he could push out of hands. I finally decide to call. He flips over pocket queens, and I do not catch an Ace. I am now down to $11.7k at the end of level 6. My big regret here is I did not factor in the difference between the aggressive player making an all in bet when he the other player covered and making an all in bet when he was putting his tournament life on the line. If I had thought about that, I probably would have concluded that there was a higher possibility of him having a very strong hand and I would have let go of the hand. I left the table for dinner needing to eat but sick to my stomach about what had just transpired.

While I wasn’t desperate entering lever 7, I was going to have to do make some moves to start building up my stack. Fairly early on in level 7, I get AQ in middle position. I raise and get one caller. An ace comes on the flop and I bet again and take down the pot. Cool, I am up to about $13k. The very next hand I see KK. I raise to $1,500 (blinds are 300/600), and get one caller in the big blind, who of course is the guy I had lost to at the end of level 6. The flop comes JJ9 with 2 diamonds. The BB checks, and I bet 4K. the BB raises me all-in. While the board is not great for me, there is a good chance I am still ahead. Because I only have about 7K left if I fold, I decide to make my stand and call. He has a very weak hand of 83 but unfortunately they are both diamonds. A diamond comes on the turn and when no K or J shows up on the river, I am knocked out of the tournament.

All in all, I was pleased by my play, I just regret that one hand. I made it to level 5 last year and level 7 this year. The money bubble seems to be around level 11. Hopefully, in the next year or two, I will make the money.

Ok, was texting with @Getzlaf15 and we wanted me to post the story here without knowing the story.  Yes, I left early and @Getzlaf15 left the same day.  I woke up at 6am Friday and that is where is starts.  The room was 90 plus because Getz can't sleep with the ac on, and yes I agreed with that.  Got up Registered for the 565, at breakfast played.....got moved much, ran kk into aa which was an easy fold and did fold...busted later and went to room.  Getz was day 2 at his O8 tourny.  He was texting me updates.  I went to sweat him a little, but the room wasn't a place for railbirds.  We was playing against "teach" Ken Adridge from NC, he always is in all yellow and I know him.  Getz comes and talks to me but I can't can't approach the table to say hi to teach because almost no rail there.  So, I go back to the room and get updates.

So, in bed, getting text updates and sweat G, after hours, he busts and is jacked and wants to decompress and get a drink and food.

So, I gear up with my wrinkled tee shirt, wrinkled Polo Shirt and meet him at the Mexican place.  Much food, many drinks, well over 100 table and after 2 hours there, let play some black jack.

We played bj for a while, we both bought in more than we liked, I was losing big and Getz left.  I moved to a double deck table and continued the fight.

So I got like 400 in front of me, about 2am.   Tattoo guy buys in for 2k.  5 hands in I got 500 and he has 500.

So busted out poker guy comes in between us.  We all start winning.  And tattoo guy takes a phone call and goes.  We were friendly, he just bailed.

So me and poker guy start winning back our losses, then (fyi 50 min) loudmouth know it all idiot comes in mid shoe, loses 2 hands and leaves killing our run.

Decks is done, poker guy is left with 100.  I go to piss, and when I come back they decided to start without me and poker guy busted is gone.  The rest got broke, I was waiting.

So I start playing alone and tattoo guy comes back and we start rolling.  For at least two rounds.  And people he knows show up and they are drunk and fun but ####### up the bj mojo.  They are from the uk, Eliot spills a full Corona on the table.  He should have been booted but they were fun.  I bet 50 that E could be quite for 5 minutes , I lost, he put the 50 on my bet and lost.  And we just lost while they were there.

Tattoo quit with 500 in front of him and the crowd left with him.  I was heads up and a nice Asian older woman came in to deal.  We were bs.  But I didn't lose a hand in that shoe.  I put 5k in my pocket and they brought in a new dealer.  Took a while but lost the 500 I had on the table, but cashed out 5k, only 2 profit for that game.

So I cash in 5k, go to the big wheel at the Rio and drop 200.  How I dont go back the room now I don't know, maybe I did.  I was looking for the diamond lounge, it was closed.  Back to an earlier post in the thread, I put 100 in an high limit slot and got 800.

I remember going back to the room, shower and going to do 565 again.  I buy in drunk as hell.  Get at diet redbud and vodka.  Give the girl 100.  She doesn't have change, I say just feed me all day.

So my next table was in an outer room and I was still a little talkative.  So some ugly shrew was at my table before we got cards, and laid into me.  You are the blah blah guy that always talks etc.  So I shut up.  Then Hawk sat down, I gave him props for back to back and cards were in the air.

I busted shrew, than Hawk, and we got moved.  Moved to seat 5 at a fun table, chipped up close to 70k at one point.  A woman got moved to my table.  All you could see was cleavage but it ended up being a wsop shirt, somehow.

So after I chipped up, and bigger stack moved to my table, so tighten up, or I think so.  So after the break, assuie cleavage chick get a kiss from her guy, so I tell her, how cute you guys kissy, kissy, kissy, kissy, at a tourny.  She cracks up.  Hold steady, next break, in line to piss, and I look at aussie chick, is making kissy face, at me going kissy kissy, kissy, I bust out laughing.

I get back to the table and she let's me know, they guy she kissed is not her boyfriend.

I said cool, then can I see the rest of your shirt? (Meaning boobs).  She asked what would your wife think of that?  I said, she wouldn't care.  She asked why?  I said she don't like me very much. (Had to be there).

So I chip down, a lot, make the money, no sweat.  Change tables.  Jesus, it at my table, I keep blinding down.  Push from utg for 6bb.  A8 hearts.  Goes to chris, he insta shoves.  I get out of line and say I like your hand.  Bb still had cards, and pushes with ak.  I bust and furguson has huge hands, both ways.

Not sure I totally get the logic of not having legalized prostitution in parts of the city. I assume Tinder is just as good and free-ish for the most part.

I'm heading down in a couple of weeks. It's my first time, and I don't know what I'm doing. Room is booked at Bellagio, which I'v heard of and seems to have gotten okay reviews in the thread. I'm seeing rave reviews for Absinthe everywhere. It doesn't totally seem like my thing, but I'll probably pop in. I'm not a huge gambler, outside of the sportsbook, and there's 0% chance I end up at an EDM club. I'm all in on the zip lining, and I've heard that the tall guy from Ray Romano's show puts on a good comedy showcase. I'll miss Andrew Dice Clay by a few days, but I intend to hit up a couple of comedy places.

Any must eat restaurants? My strong preference is generally for non-touristy spots when I'm visiting a new city, but my impression of Vegas is one big tourist trap.
There's this really good interesting not cheap Japanese (non sushi) place called Raku that's a cab ride off the strip.  It's in the Chinatown area

Here's my take....
I finish 84th in WSOP event.  We go to Guy Fierie Mexican place and chow down on some good food and lots of alcohol.   Cav charges it to his comp that he was given.

We then go play BJ.   We start losing and then lose some more playing $25.  The only thing going right are the two phenomenal Rio Pole Dancers across the way.  We are both down about $700..... really pissed that this is cutting into my WSOP winnings ...  I then rally back about half the losses ....  It's around 2am and Cav decides to leave an go upstairs.   I play for almost another hour and finish up $500.

I get to the room expecting Cav to be sleeping.and he's wide awake and 20 minutes later at 3am, he goes back down " I gotta get even"

At 9am I wake up to a text of Cav and all his winnings.... and on no sleep for 40 hours, he goes and plays and cashes in the $565

Can't click on the link while at work but I read over the weekend their is a dispensary just north of the strip. I was just thinking of taking some edibles home. Probably not a good idea since I'll be flying tho.
From what I understand there are plenty of dispensaries. The only problem is that they don't sell for recreational use,

yet.

Use this to see where Medical and Recreational dispensaries are located.

I'm heading out in December and I hope this is taken care of by then.

First time in three years going more than two months without going to vegas. Had to send my winning tickets in from sweet sixteen. Instructions were to send registered mail. So i go to post office and spend the 12 bucks and fill out all the needed crap. Get home and realize somehow i missed one. So now i have to spend another 12 bucks for a 97 dollar ticket.

I mailed winning tickets in this year regular mail since I didn't want to pay for registered mail and it worked just fine.

Bagged 42.5k. Was pretty card dead. After the second break, few hands in, I jammed about 17 bigs with AJ utg+1 at 150/300 and got called by the bb's 99 and the J was right in the door.

Not too long after that, I 3 bet after a limp and a raise with KK, limper was the only call, flopped K88, we both check, he then crams a 6 turn for 8200 effect (a bit more than pot) and I beat his AQ.

I hovered around 24-30k for a while. Utg makes it 900 at 200/400, gets a call, and I 3 bet to 3100 with AK. He just piles about 22k and I call after about 20 seconds and catch the punt vs his KJ.

I went to dinner break with around 53k. Come back and don't win a hand for about an hour and bleed down to about 30-35k. Our table breaks and I raise the first hand at the new table and take the blinds and antes. Next hand, mp raises to 1100 at 250/500 and I call with 88, along with the bb. Flop K86, pf raiser bets 1300, I make it 3400, fold, and he calls. Turn is a 5, he check/calls 6500. The river pairs the 6 and he checks again. I jam and he calls after two minutes for about 14k with KQ and I bust him. Couple hands later, I lose a 14bb race, AQ < 88.

Didnt get too much else going. I got down to around 27k at 500/1k and managed to bag a decent stack.

I don't have an AJ offsuit busted on the turning river lingo to share, but took the fam to Vegas for the first time this week (their first time, not mine).  Had a great time despite the 115 degree heat.

-Did Red Rock Canyon.  Beautiful.  I've only ever been in the Casinos so was really glad to experience this.  Really relaxed, enjoyable day trip.

-Did the dumb Grand Canyon bus tour deal.  LOOOOONG ### day but none of us had ever been and wanted the experience.  Beautiful.  So big it was hard to process.  I think I'd say I was glad for the experience, enjoyed seeing the Canyon, and would never ever ever do that again.

-Went to South Point one day so I could get some football bets in, and my wife and son went and found the arcade.  When we met back up after 45 minutes my boy was like, "So Daaaad....do you want to go play blackjack or something?  Mom and I kind of want to go back to the arcade."  I think I left shoe tread in the carpet I was gone so fast.  Nice little afternoon.  And I came out ahead enough to pay for most of the birthday dinner to come.

-Went and saw Mac King at Harrah's.  "Free" show with a $15 drink purchase.   Comedy/magic that my wife and 12 year old LOVED.  I gotta say, it was a great way to spend a super hot afternoon.  Funny dude, clean enough for the kids but with enough innuendo and word play that we all laughed our butts off.  It's a dive show, but my son said this was THE highlight of his vacation, along with....

-Yardbird to end it, for my wife's birthday.  We got 2 orders of the chicken and waffles to share and it was plenty of food.  Also had biscuits and jam for dessert.  Best meal ever.  My wife and son told me I'd hyped it up so much they both were afraid they'd be disappointed, but it was better than I'd described.

Great vacay.  I got home today with the Vegas flu, and we'll probably never go back as a family.  But I can go each year with my buddies knowing I treated my family to a great Vegas Vacation.

Did you stay at Harrah's as well? Can't wait for Yardbird.
Nope we stayed off Strip at a place called Desert Paradise Resort.  Nice enough property, 1 bedroom condo for $85/night.

Made the dinner break in Event 58, $1500NL. I have 35 big blinds so I'm not in terrible shape.

Havent seen AA yet. Must be due!

4 levels to go before play ends for the day. Money will likely hit in the first level tomorrow.

35 is normal.  No need to change your play.  If folded to you in late position min raise 65% of your hands.  If you get called, easy to know how to play on the flop, player dependant.

If you are card dead, don't worry about bagging 10bb.  You might get a better seat tomorrow and you are still alive.

decided to go out 6th-10th and play the $365.  Probably will blow up my 100% cash percentage in the process (okay it is only 2 out of 2) as I haven't been playin' much.
