Don't have it. Wouldn't want it.
I don't even like it when the doors auto-lock after I start driving or the alarm sound if I don't fasten my seatbelt.
I'm an adult. I can make those decisions myself.

Hate it. When we get in my vehicle to go anywhere, before I even get it cranked my wife is already hovering over the disable button to turn it off

I just bought a new car last month, and of course it has this feature. I wouldn't say I "hate" it, but I do dislike it.

On the other hand, the feature where you can push down on the brake and have it hold your vehicle in place until you hit the gas is nice. I use that all the time and I don't even have traffic to worry about.
Same as day one, right?
Day one of what? Every car i have owned besides my EV did not have this feature. Disclaimer a 2015 vehicle is the newest car i have owned minus the EV

I agree, it's awesome.

And as a dad, I also appreciate that the car comes with a built-in pun, as this is referred to as the "auto hold" feature. Auto hold...get it? Auto...hold...? So nice.

It's horribly stupid that you have to press the button every time to turn it off rather than the other way around.
Guessing that’s the way it had to be for them to use it in calculating the mpg numbers/ emission numbers.
This correct. The manufacturers have to have it automatically on in order for the MPG numbers. We (GM dealer) have had so many people ask us if we can turn it off permanently turn it off, but there is no way to do that.

I was never a big fan of it until the wife got her new vehicle (23 Acadia). I have gotten used to it and barely notice it anymore. I can see where in a larger city it might be a bit of an issue because of the delay. When I am in heavy traffic, I just lightly let up on the brake after it shuts off and it starts right back up and stays running.

I don't have it, but if I did, I would find a way to turn it off. You see cars in drive-thru's and it is just on and off--on and off. That would drive me crazy. That can't be good for the starter or engine in the long run.

It doesn't work that way. Auto stop only reengages after 25 seconds.
All of the cars we have with this feature will do this way more often than that. If I am at a stop sign with a multiple-car line, each time I move up and stop, it will turn off. And will continue to do so with each move.

I had a 22 or 23 Kia Soul rental that auto stopped much sooner than 25 seconds.

Maybe your brand is 15 seconds, but cars dont shut off at a light or when you place an order at a drive through then you pull up ten feet and it shuts off again.
It was almost instantaneous to coming to a complete stop. I would pull into my driveway, the car would shut off before I could put it in park, then start back up when placed in park. I would then turn the car off and exit the vehicle. This was a 2022 or 2023 Kia Soul from Enterprise. The car had a keyed ignition, not a push button start.
But that's not what is being discussed. You pull behind a car. Engine shuts off. Engine restarts after a certain amount of time. You then pull forward 10ft it doesn't shut off again via the auto shutoff.
Not any of ours. Both have a very long time before the engine will restart being stopped. If I move up 10ft and stop, the engine will turn off, rinse and repeat if it's a long line.

Maybe all brands are different. Our family has 2 GMC made vechiles. They don't do this. For example we are in the right turn lane at a red light and one car turns because it is clear and we move up a car length. Our car restarts because we are stopped, we move up and it doesn't shut back off when we stop again.

I totally get the annoyance factor when you’ve been driving cars for 30+ years and the process suddenly changes, but maybe, just maybe, if the half second delay in getting going again seems to be the difference between life and death, you shouldn’t be pulling out into traffic yet in the first damn place.

When the light turns green, I want to launch ... not wait for the motor to start and then go.
I shut it off as soon as I start the car ... and it peeves me off when I forget and it shuts off when I stop.
I wonder if this feature is to somehow help car mfgs comply to lower government emission standards.
How much gas does it actually save by shutting down the motor for 10 seconds at a redlight? 10 redlights a day would equal 100 seconds of gas ... so, 2 tablespoons?
There is no way the savings offsets wear and tear of the starter that will need replacing 10x sooner (and 10x more often) than without it.
I suppose it helps the dealership and repair shops that are selling & installing starters.

Rolling around Milwaukee in a Chevy Blazer rental that has it, BUT the off button for it keeps it off regardless of how many times you start it up. This is the preferred way versus having to turn it off each and every time the vehicle is started.
