Verizon Smartphones? (2 Viewers)

Bionic Review

The negative:

Let's get into the ugly. While the HDMI out worked exceptionally well, and playing accelerometer-based games on my HDTV was awesome, when it comes to Motorola's webtop interface, this thing just falls flat. Using it with the laptop dock was extremely arduous. Not only is the keyboard and trackpad extremely lousy (especially compared with Lenovo's ThinkPad Tablet dock I played with last week), but the phone couldn't handle the software. I got "out of memory" messages before the whole thing completely froze on me in a most dramatic fashion (see final picture in the gallery). I had to pull the phone's battery to restart its heart. Again, this is preliminary testing, but it bodes ill.

Lastly, there's the Bionic's screen. While it was bright and extremely responsive to touch, the PenTile technology used in Motorola's qHD display makes it super harsh on the eyes. Everything looks super grainy. And this isn't the first Motorola phone with this problem. Any time you're looking at black text on a white background you're due for some eye scrunching. It seems to be a little worse than the problems with the Droid X2, to our eyes. And while the PenTile tech helps save battery, at this point I'm sure it's not worth the trade-off.
Don't forget the camera issues. Screen is the one thing that bothers me, but I will take LTE over retina display. It does take great movies, has good call strength, largest battery and if you decide you want 24 hours of battery life you can turn off 4G and even opt for a high capacity battery.

Still deciding what my next VZW smartphone will be. I'm up for a new one, and my OG Droid is aging quickly. Although since my DSL is down, the tether feature (since I've rooted) has been a lifesaver for me.

I'm actually considering an iPhone 5... But my life is totally google-ified now, and I'm concerned that the iPhone won't work well with the Gmail, GCalendar, GMusic that I have going on.

My wife dumped her iphone for droid incredible 2 and couldn't be happier. The fact that the current big advertisement for the iphone is that you can talk on the phone and do 1 other thing is pretty sad. Don't buy into the iphone hype. The top droids are simply better.

:goodposting: And that isn't a "feature" of the iPhone, that's a limitation of Verizon. Android phones can do the same thing on ATT

The iphone can not do true multitasking. you can talk and open a browser with ATT, thats pretty much it. With any droid you can have numerous things running at the same time with out issue. I have quit paying attention to the apple people because they simply can not be intellectually honest about the products vs droid. I sat at one of my fantasy drafts with my Toshiba Thrive tablet and another guy had his ipad 2. He couldn't even operate on the leagues site properly, in the mean time I had hooked mine up to the guys 60" tv through a standard HDMI cord and we rocked the entire draft on his tv.

I do know that my OG Droid is buggier than my friend's iPhones though. It's slowing down a lot lately, soft freezing, and the battery life is dwindling.

Also, are there any upcoming android phones that have slide out keyboards?

Samsung has one coming out called the Stratosphere. LinkAlso here is a full Bionic review: Link
Thanks. I'm not in love with that Samsung phone. Is Moto coming out with a Droid 4 with 4G?

I don't see the screen issue. Mine looks great.

What an amazing phone. Like others on here I am coming from the OG droid, the speed difference is awesome. 4g is incredibly fast, as good as wifi. The phone itself is very smooth, coming from another droid simplified things, but there was stuff to learn. All my apps quickly transferred. Best way to describe it is everything is an upgrade, from calendar to facebook, to sorting contacts, to surfing the net, everything.

Camera is ridiculous. 1080p video, with hdmi connection is awesome.

Lots of superlatives but well worth it. Coming from the OG droid, I know I was a little behind the times, but this blows me away.

Not 4g, but I'm impressed by the Droid 3's keyboard.

Liking the bionic a lot. I think the screen gets a bum rap, seems fine to me.

Using the extended battery since 11am this morning, battery still has 50% juice

Anyone have a Rezound yet?
$.01 on amazonIs this for real?

eta: nm. doesn't apply to existing customers
Yeah, but $229 for renewals is still a lot better than Verizon's price and you can keep unlimited data if you have it.
Where do you see 229 at?

Nexus is out. Mixed reviews.
Mixed reviews? Care to post one? The only negative things I've read is that it doesn't have an SD card slot and it only has a 5MP camera. The Verizon version is rumored to ship with 32GB of internal memory, which offsets the need for a slot a bit. No card slot is also apparently a Google design spec, so this is what you get with a Nexus phone. 5MP is a meaningless statistic on it's own. I haven't read a review where anyone actually tested the picture quality and found it inferior to the Razr.Everything else has been glowing. Ice Cream Sandwich. Largest screen available. Gorilla-like glass (different brand than Gorilla). Decent sized battery w\ removable battery cover. Almost as thin and light as the Razr. Seriously, someone may prefer a different phone for one reason or another, but the main differences in it and the other 4G phones being released right now should all be positive features.

Guess I was looking at Nexus reviews but not on Verizon. The Nexus is out today. I went by the local Verizon store and played around with all of the phones. I vastly prefer the Rezound. The sound system is awesome. Maybe it's because I'm used to HTC, but I find it easier to use than Motorola or Samsung. How bright the screen is doesn't matter to me. The Nexus is very awkward to hold also. The Rezound doesn't feel as big or heavy as I've read about either. It's an easy choice for me.

I'm mainly leaning towards Rezound because it has a higher resolution screen and camera and a faster processor as well as the fact that I still want a SD slot. Ice Cream Sandwich is officially coming to the Rezound next spring, although I'm sure I'll have it before that.Really though, the Razr, Rezound, and Nexus all look like great phones with fairly minor advantages over each other.

Also, it looks like Droid 4 is right around the corner. It will have very similar specs to the Razr, but with a slide out keyboard.

Rezound is 215 on Amazon.
I'm seeing it for $149 on Amazon, new and upgrade. Was waiting for the Galaxy Nexus but it is getting pounded on all the forums. Poor reception, dismal battery life.
I'm not sure the battery life is worse than my wife's razr (both suck compared to my HTC Incredible), but the reception does seem worse. My other big complaint is that NFL Mobile isn't enabled for it yet.The panoramic camera feature is pretty sweet, but that's an ICS feature, it eventually won't be specific to the Nexus.

oops you're right. 149. :thumbup:The Galaxy appears to be getting mediocre reviews.
Have the Rezound. Love it. The screen is gorgeous and Beats is great (I'm big on music). Its a little big, but I don't mind it at all.

I got my Rezound a couple of days ago and I'd say it's more than a "little" big. It dwarfs my old Eris.

I don't really care though, it's a great phone. Can't say enough about the display. Just great for watching streamed video. I'm going to make Verizon cry for grandfathering me in on the unlimited data plan.

I've been waiting for the nexus to come out, but not really all that excited for it now. Im sick of pulling the battery on my old droid, but reading some are having to do it on the nexus too. and crappy batt life, although mostly from searching for 4g.

If you want a 4g phone, be prepared for crappy battery life. They all have been plagued by it. Maybe some new phone in the future will do better, but none of Verizon's 4g offerings are great right now.In the meantime, turn off 4g unless you're doing something data intensive and you'll be in battery life heaven.

Trying to decide between the iPhone 4S, Rezound, Razr, and Galaxy Nexus on Verizon at the moment. Upgrade from my Original Moto Droid that is on it's last legs - unfortunately, none of these phones are flawless. Concerned that if I go with the 4S, I am going to be stuck on 3G for two more years vs. getting one of the Android phones that puts me on the 4G tier (my entire train commute is in 4G territory, as well as my office). Will soon have an iPad Wi-Fi for tethering and since I have grandfathered unlimited data, seems like 4G is the place to be. Thoughts from the FBG FFA?

List your priorities. Mine would be:1) 4G2) Screen size/screen resolution3) SpeedI've played with the Rezound, Razr and Nexus. The screens on the Rezound and Nexus are gorgeous. The Razr is amazingly thin and light. The Rezound definitely has some junk in the trunk (a little thick). If going Android I would choose the Nexus because of the quicker updates. As for the 4S. I've never played with one but I have used a 4 so assuming very similar. Screen is nice as is the speed but I couldn't get over the smallness of the screen. It was like going back to my Windows mobile days when a 3.2" screen was "large". But for me the screen size was an issue but may not be for you.
Thanks Dorno. Ended up going for the Nexus for the exact reasons you listed. If the iPhone today was 4G, we may have had another outcome. So far after two weeks of ownership, no major complaints. Not a huge change to get on ICS from previous Android platform, but this operating system on this phone is light years better than the previous phone/OS I had. Other than Google Maps always wants to open every hour and the ringer on this phone just is not loud enough, I don't see any problems. Yes, the battery life sucks, but I typically have a charger handy 85-90% of the day (except for the commute) and you can swap out the battery in a pinch. And, if you are interested in these new Android phones but don't want to pony up $299, probably not an issue. I was able to get one of the local Best Buy's to match a price on WireFly which was $229 when I purchased two weeks ago (now $279). You could probably get them to match Amazon Wireless (was $229 yesterday for the family plan upgrade) if you were to do it today and without much effort.
