Verizon Smartphones? (2 Viewers)

Got the Bionic last week. Really like it so far.
We have many users with problems with the Bionic changing between 3G and 4G. It can connect to 4G successfully but once you leave a 4G area it falls to 1G and can't get back to 3G without a reboot. Verizon is telling us that a fix will be out soon, but that has been a couple months now. I am having our 4G users go either Thunderbolt or Razr depending on their department budget and how quick they need the new mobile.

Not much 4G around here in the sticks of Wisconsin. I appreciate the info though in case it does mess up when I do go somewhere with a 4G network. I did get a new patch yesterday, maybe this solved it?

Got the Razr a week ago and am taking it for a two week test drive, through Verizon I can swap it for another phone within that time frame (one time only).

I like the Razr, the biggest issue is the battery but I imagine this is an issue for all 4G phones and the sales rep said that the Razr has a better battery than both the Nexus and Rezound.

I am also not thrilled with the camera, it takes okay pics but nothing special. I took some test photos with the Nexus and Rezound in the Verizon store and I thought the Nexus camera was the worst of the bunch.

On the plus side I really like the size and feel of the Razr, the interface is quite fast and I really like the quality of the screen. Music quality is fine but the Rezound is getting super high marks for sound quality and is better than the Razr.

I am not sure if I am going to stick with the Razr or roll the dice and switch to the Rezound (my previous phone was HTC and I like the interface). It sucks that I can't take both for a two week test run.

I have had the Nexus for a month as of yesterday and so far I absolutely love it. I purchased the extended battery for an extra $50 (it adds almost nothing to the thickness of the phone) and I am getting a day+ of moderate to heavy use out of it (I turn 4g off when I am not in the Philadelphia area). The camera has an extremely fast shutter speed and the picture quality is pretty darn good for a phone. I love Ice Cream Sandwich and what it brings to the phone. The face unlock in decent light works extremely well, however its worthless in the dark or very low light situations. I have only used the beam (NFC) twice thus far but it works flawlessly. It comes with a photo editor built in which seems to work rather well. The voice recognition seems a bit better than what I had with my Droid X.The voice to text is fantastic and makes texting/emailing a breeze. Possibly the biggest improvement is with in the browser. On my X I would have to use the dolphin HD browser, however the new ICS browser is great. It syncs with chrome and provides tabs, bookmarks and the ability to select the desktop version of the site with one swipe of your finger.

How's the battery life on the Galaxy Nexus?
Not great, but I will admit I have not tried doing anything to "optimize" battery life. Stock battery and I keep it charged all day and night. The only time it is not on the charger is during the commute (roughly 90 minutes door-to-door) where I will be at around 75% with moderate use.

Something is wrong here. Even when I used the standard battery I got better life than that. Do you have 4G running the entire time?

Yes to Amazon. I still have unlimited after upgrading though them. I assume the same is true elsewhere.

Nice review...thanks! Anyone else got comments on their Galaxy Nexus?I'm considering switching carriers (Sprint to Verizon) after they changed our family plan which broke our contract and gives us a free out.... but I absolutely love my Samsung Galaxy SII. The battery life on it is fantastic for my usage, but I don't use 4G that often so that might be part of it. Not sure if moving to Verizon and their superior network will change that or not.

Verizon has all the razrs for buy1 get 1 free. today and tomorrow
:thumbup:Looks like the wife and I are getting Razr Maxx :excited:
bumpThis freaking thing is Awesome - I thought my Droid X was cool. My goodness is this phone swell
:goodposting: I did not get the Razr Maxx like you but I did get the Razr and it is an awesome phone. I am finally getting used to the bigger phone (last one was the incredible so huge size difference), but I love this phone. Battery life on the Razr is not an issue for me but I am connected to wifi at work and home so that is probably the biggest reason.

Had my Razr for 2 months now, battery life is fine. I can get through a whole day of moderate/heavy use with no problem. Plus with the micro USB charger I can just plug it in to the computer at the office (or when traveling) if I need to. Between that and the car charger I don't see battery life being a problem.I really like this phone now, but ask me again in a year.

I am still salty about that...
I am too...I've been a Sprint customer for 12 years and have been a silent partner in this deal outside of getting a new phone every 2 years. Love my Galaxy S2 they gave me 3 months ago for $400 off...but I'll also love selling it for a $200 profit and moving to a superior network after this.

If I was not getting such great corporate discount, I would have jumped all over the free out to go to Verizon. Even with the change, it is still a better deal for me for now.

What happened with the family plan? Just curious
They changed their price structure so that services that used to be included in the base plan are now considered add-ons and are not subject to the corporate discounts (discounts are only for base plans). For example, they used to include the second line of service free in a family plan, but that is now an add-on.

Yeah, I'm aware of that...but when you've been with a company for 12+ years it irks you when they stick you with added costs for a service that seems to be degrading over the last year or two.

Totally agree, went through it with Verizon

Is there anything on the horizon people are looking forward to?Maybe in the next 3 to 6 months?
A co-worker has a Samsung note. I thought it would be ridiculous. It's actually pretty sweet.Verizon is releasing the Journal (same phone) soon. But the Maxx is where it's at :P

Had Motorola phones in the past, and the battery memory on those phones were horrible after a year or so (replaced them often). As much praise as the Maxx is getting for its daily battery life, I can't bring myself to trust a non-removable battery from Motorola for the long term. Galaxy Nexus is what I'm checking out now.

Any word on recently announced phones for this year?
Droid fighter - Rumored to be announce or maybe even released next week.Moto phone 4.6 screen no captive buttons which means ICS. Also supposed to have a 3300 battery. Which is nice.

Tried to upgrade to Rezound but it's not letting me usage my unlimited data plan. I thought they still let you keep your data plan if you're already a customer.

Any updates on deals? Looks like I just missed out on the Rezound as Amazon has it back up to $179. :kicksrock:

Not sure if this is common knowledge or not, but I thought I would pass on this tidbit just in case.

Those grandfathered into unlimited data - The unlimited data being is tied to having a smartphone on that existing line. If you ever activate a non-smartphone temporarily on that line you will lose the unlimited data going forward. So if you ever lose your phone, do not activate a non-smartphone in it's place to get you by until you get a new smartphone...if you do, you will not get your unlimited data back when you active another smartphone.

Also, new lines being added to your plan will not get unlimited data...that one didn't surprise me though.

I think they have a buy one get one on one of the current Androids but I forget which one

Yeah I knew about this but that's why I asked them when I make a change to my plan if it "starts" me over and they said no, which is good.I think starting next week they are getting rid of the upgrade discount and you actually have to pay $30

Found on Amazon they are offering the following:

LG Spectrum - $89.99

Samsung Galaxy Nexus - $149.99

HTC Rezound - $179.99

All are 4G and share similar specs. Anyone have any feedback on these phones? Wirefly 'Schmackdowns' have the Rezound over the Nexus, and the Spectrum over the Rezound. I'm interested in hearing what actual users think about these phones. It'll be my first venture into smartphones, so I want to make sure I'm doing my due diligence.
