Vick in Chicago (1 Viewer)

TMZ is reporting Vick was seen in the the Chicago airport. I have a feeling he was getting on a connecting flight. No way the Bears would sign him after getting Cutler.

Per Profootballtalk.com

In response to a sighting of quarterback Mike Vick at O'Hare Airport, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that Vick's trip to the Windy City doesn't involve a meeting with the local NFL team.

Per Biggs, Vick is believed to be in Chicago to engage in charity work of some type.

Meanwhile, Joe Buck's favorite web site has updated its "Vick's in Chicago" story to report that Vick isn't meeting with the Bears. Per TMZ, Bears media services manager Jim Christman said that Vick is "definitely not joining the team."

I've heard the two teams are trying to sign Vick, Pitt and Carolina. A guy I work with has a friend in the Panthers organization who says they are going to annouce tomorrow the Vick signing.

Not sure why it would be a big surprise. Tony Dungy has already mentioned Vick is willing to go to a team with an established QB. It's simply going to come down to which teams believe they can take the fallout for signing Vick without it upsetting the dynamics of their team, as well as those who don't already have a good Wildcat QB. And among those teams, the ones who have an issue at either QB1 or QB2 will be even more likely to sign him.

I really don't have a guess. It's hard to say which teams are willing to take the heat for signing Vick (& there will be a decent amount of fallout).

A formation with Vick, Deangelo, and Stewart in the same backfield would be interesting . . . .

Carolina is the perfect location for him. No good backup QB (with a QB1 that is wavering), smaller market town (we had the best woman-on-woman cheerleading story in the history of the NFL, and it barely made headlines), good team with established "faces of the franchise" in Delhomme, Peppers and Smith and Mush. Perfect location...

I can't see Jerry Richardson wanting him on his team. Personally, I don't want him on the Panthers. If the Panthers do sign him it will have to be for dirt cheap since Julius Peppers tied up most of the Panthers money.

I dont' think he has a shot in Chicago unless they are bringing in him to return kicks, run the ball, or play wide receiver.

As mentioned earlier he was there for charity (from what they said on the Packers Press Gazette chat today it was humane society work).

Vick was at some humane society thing giving a speech, apology or somesuch.

Dungy did say a signing was coming soon.

As far as this misplaced rumor, Bears backups stink, why not? Brett basanez? cmon

Vick and Steve Smith split wide might just make D coordinators vomit with those RBs in the backfield.

I'm hearing from a friend in Buffalo that Vick is there now and apparently negotiating with the Bills. This info is second hand from someone close to the organization. This is purely rumor, no link available.

This would actually be a good fit. It would be a kick in the ### for Edwards, and they would surely design some plays for Vick in the new no huddle offense.

I'm thinking the exact opposite, Carolina is one of the worst landing spots for a guy like Vick. He needs to be in a larger market with a steady fan base, small town markets will catch serious heat if they sign this guy. He'll do a lot better in places like NE, Pitt where the #1 QB is already set in stone. You don't want Vick being a distraction to a QB on the fringe... the last thing Carolina wants to do is get rid of whatever confidence Delhomme has left. Being in a place like NE, there will be no pressure to play Vick regardless of the team's record considering everybody knows who the better QB is. In Vick's best interest it's to go to a team where he is a small fish in a big pond. The media won't chomp at NE/Pitt or any other big market team like they would like Carolina. I could be wrong but I don't like it.

On the other hand, Vick would provide another warm body for Steve Smith to b*tch slap when he goes postal. I'm sure PETA would be all for that.

Vick needs to go where he is going to play, its not worth the flack to just have him as a backup and a 1-2 play gimmick. He needs a spot where he can get involved in the offense regularly. A small market could be better as far as media goes as the circus will likely die down faster and smaller markets have the luxury of smaller bases for protesters. Its much easier to get 1,000 people out in NYC to protest Vick, the equivalent of that in Carolina would be 100 unless people are actively busing themselves in.

Maybe Chicago is a good fit for him, considering Cutler has shown all the signs of being one of those players that has an expiration date.

One question I haven't really seen addressed and that I think is the most pertinent FF question- what position is he going to be listed as? Vick's going to be unrosterable to me as a QB, but as a WR/RB he deserves a look and maybe even a draft pick. Considering he hasn't thrown a pass in 2 years and has missed TC I can't see teams being comfortable with him as their #2 QB, and with the way the emergency QB rules are written it would seem disadvantageous to put him as the #3QB, which would mean to me that he should be listed as something else.

I'm not sure if Carolina is the best fit but I disagree with just about everything else in your take. Not trying to pick on you and I could be entirely wrong on the situation but I think he will be embraced easier, or at least not protested as much, where he is in a smaller market where and might fit a team need.

It's impossible to say what he role will be and whether or not he is rosterable in fantasy football until he actually signs with a team.

Cutler would certainly hold out and demand a trade were the Bears to show any interest in Vick. Lovie's got to watch himself here - probably best to send flowers or something just to make sure Cutler's skirt isn't ruffled over the Vick rumor.
