Vick Misses practice. expects to play sun vs NYJ (1 Viewer)

The Jets aren't as dominating as they have been in years past. But One good lick to the ribs could kill your season. Plus, it seems Vick/Reid have all but gameplaned Vicks legs out of his current game and that KILLS his value.

Fbgs are split but one of em Has Vick Much higher than I do that is for sure.I'm strongly thinking of going with grossmanas inane as that sounds.

Michael Vick misses Eagles practice

December, 14, 201l

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick, who played Sunday's game after missing three straight with broken ribs, did not practice with the Eagles on Wednesday, according to multiple eyewitness reports. Tim McManus reports that Eagles coach Andy Reid said Vick was sore, but that he did throw some during the morning walkthrough and that Reid expects Vick to play Sunday against the Jets. Tim also reports that wide receiver Jeremy Maclin, who missed those same three games with a hamstring injury and was unable to finish Sunday's game, practiced with the team Wednesday. VickWhat to make of the Vick thing? Well, it's not a step forward in his recovery, that's for sure, since he took every first-team practice snap last week. But he hadn't played in a game the Sunday before, so it's entirely possible this is just something like one of those late-season Wednesdays off that veterans get this time of year. If Vick doesn't practice Thursday, then it's worth sounding an alarm bell or two. But it's perfectly conceivable he was just getting this day off to help him rest and recover. Vick said Tuesday he still wasn't back to 100 percent, yet. If Vick couldn't go, the Eagles likely would turn back to Vince Young, who threw four interceptions in a loss to Seattle in the last game Vick missed. But for now, it doesn't seem worth worrying about that. Vick has said he's determined to play and help the Eagles win their last three games, which is the only chance they have at making the playoffs. The Eagles could be eliminated from the NFC East race before they even take the field at 4 p.m. ET on Sunday, since the Cowboys play Saturday night and the Giants play early Sunday. If the Cowboys and Giants both win, the Eagles are out of the division race. If that happens and the Falcons and Lions also both win, the Eagles would be eliminated from playoff contention entirely, whether they win their last three games or not.

Benching Vick for Tebow. Not sure if I can start Vick no matter how sweet the match up. If he plays all game, OK he'll do better than Tebow. But I can't risk a 2 point game from my QB in the playoffs. I'd think if you have any half decent QB I wouldn't fault you for benching Vick.

I can't bring myself to start him.Seeing how DeMarco Murray got me eliminated from one league's playoffs this past week, a partial game from Vick this week would break my heart. Sad to say, but I'm rolling with Stafford as a lower injury risk. It's come to that.

Stafford or Tebow over Vick are easy choices. I have all 3 in one league and am starting Stafford without really a 2nd thought.

One league I've got Ben and Vick and don't know whether to gamble on waiting for Ben. I'd rather gamble on Ben if I know he'll start but he's got that Monday night start and I don't want to be starting Batch.

Its a tough one. Eagles offensive line was trash against hte dolphins but they are so up and down, you don't know what you are going to get. Vick could put up 300 and 3 tds or put up 150 and 1 td 3 ints...who the hell knows

As someone who is considering starting NYJ QB Sanchez this weekend against the Eagles, this post is very interesting to me. I've read a lot of commentary about how the Eagles are kinda starting to come together over the last few weeks on both sides of the ball, but if Vick and the offense struggle all day, it's going to be a long day for the 'Birds (all of 'em). Vick possibly not able to go? That is something that I will watch with a careful eye - Vick owners gotta be tired of "WTF" mode yet again Ugh...

wondering how both bloom and dodds are penciling him in for 38+ yards rushing. I just don't see it. NYJ d has been pretty good this year vs the pass. And Vick is still sore (ie will likely play to avoid hits/not scramble etc)

ugh

By Jeff McLane, Of McClatchy-Tribune NewspapersDecember 16, 2011

PHILADELPHIA — Michael Vick returned to practice on Thursday and is on track to make his second straight start Sunday, against the New York Jets.

"Feeling closer and closer to 100 percent," Vick said. "Just trying to get better and just taking my time with the whole process. … Sometimes it takes a long time to heal."

Vick missed three games because of broken ribs and sat out Wednesday's practice. He had a large bag of ice wrapped on his back after practice Thursday.

"It's a little sore when I throw, but I could tolerate it," Vick said.

The subject of Vick's health, of course, is an important one. He said last week that he would start sliding in order to avoid taking unnecessary hits, then did the opposite against the Dolphins and took a number of hits as a result.

Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg was asked why Vick takes more hits than Vince Young, who filled in during Vick's absence.

"It's a combination of things," Mornhinweg said. "Mike's style is a little bit different. And I'm certainly a part of it. But it's going to be the death of me to get him to protect himself just a little bit better.

"He plays with a style where he takes a lot of hits. And I do think he's gotten better, but not nearly as good as he needs to be for, first of all the best interest of the team, and secondly for the best interest of him."

Vick said after the Miami game that he was going to continue to play the way he always has.

"I take a lot of hits, I get hit, but it doesn't affect me. I get up from it," Vick said. "When I was a young man we used to play football in the backyard, and I got hit probably six million times up until this point."

Vick was reminded that he is now 31 years old.

"The older you get the better you get," he said.

More returns

Defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins and tackle Todd Herremans also returned to practice, but were limited. Jenkins has a groin strain, and Herremans has an ankle sprain. Jenkins said that he expects to play Sunday.

Wide receiver Jeremy Maclin was a full participant a day after being limited. He didn't seem worried about his availability for the Jets game.

"I'm playing, baby," Maclin said.

Defensive end Darryl Tapp (rib) did not practice for the second straight day. If Tapp can't go, there's a chanceJuqua Parker or Brandon Graham will dress in his place. Both Parker and Graham were inactive last week asPhillip Hunt dressed for the first time in two months and recorded a sack.

Graham, whose knee is still not 100 percent after surgery last December, intimated on Wednesday that his playing days this season could be over.

'Negative plays'

There were a number of reasons for LeSean McCoy's worst day as an NFL running back — and a few were out of his control — but he said Thursday that he was guilty of often trying to make something out of nothing.

"I'm trying to make too many things happen," McCoy said. "Trying to break too many tackles and spin out. … You can't do that in this league."

McCoy, who is still second in the league in rushing, finished with just 38 yards on 27 carries against Miami. He did score two touchdowns, however, giving him an NFL-best 14 on the season.

But he had nine runs in which he lost yardage.

"Just being satisfied with just the little yards — the 2s, the 1s, just even getting back to the line of scrimmage," McCoy said. "I just hate negative plays."

Reporter Jonathan Tamari of McClatchy-Tribune Newspapers contributed to this story.

PHILADELPHIA -- Michael Vick returned from practice Thursday, still wearing the quarterback's invincibility cloak: the red jersey that lets defenders know he can't be hit.

If Vick could wear red on Sundays, his coaches might sleep better at night.

Because when Vick, who will be under center for the Eagles when they host the Jets at 4:15 p.m. Sunday, removes his protective shield, the consequences of repeated hits are clear.

His torso is tightly taped, with an oversize ice pack bulging beneath. It's a reminder of his broken ribs, a side effect of the fearless scrambling style that has helped him become the NFL's all-time leading rushing quarterback.

It's also a reminder of the three games those ailing ribs caused him to miss last month, two of which the Eagles lost. And of the risks in giving a $100-million contract to a player who's played 16 games in a regular season only once.

"It's going to be the death of me to get him to protect himself," Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said. "I do think he's gotten better, but not nearly as good as he needs to be for the best interests of his team and, secondly, the best interests of him."

Vick, a four-time Pro Bowler, doesn't seem concerned. He's sore, he said, but he's used to it.

"That's just my style of play," Vick said. "I take a lot of hits. I used to play football in the backyard and got hit probably 6 million times. I played Pop Warner football. It's something I'm accustomed to. Getting knocked to the ground is like walking to me. It's nothing."

But if last week's 26-10 victory over the Dolphins in Miami is any indication, Vick's game is changing. He ran only twice against the Dolphins, for 9 yards. In his last game before the injury, Vick carved upArizona for 79 yards on eight carries.

Staying in the pocket didn't keep him off the ground. The Dolphins sacked Vick four times.

"I can tolerate it," he said. "Each and every day I throw, it gets a little better."

Vick enjoyed a career renaissance in 2010, establishing career highs in almost every category and winning the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year award. The Eagles rewarded him with a six-year, $100-million contract, almost $40 million of which is guaranteed.

Now his numbers are down across the board. Vick's interceptions have doubled from six to 12. Last season, he rushed for nine touchdowns. This year, he has zero.

His struggles have mirrored those of the Eagles, whose "dream team" season has been derailed by injuries and underperformance. Somehow, however, they remain mathematically alive. If the Eagles (5-8) win out and the Giants and Cowboys lose twice each, the NFC East title would go to Philadelphia.

Those slim playoff hopes rest on Vick's shoulders. Shoulders that, if his coaches get their way, will remain upright and off the turf.

"There's a fine line there of taking away someone's competitive spirit and getting him to slide," Eagles coach Andy Reid said. "I figure by the time he's about 43, I'll have that figured out for him."
