How's Vic's arm these days? I see the Rays were 9-for-9 in 4 games vs him. I know 'Tek hasn't fared well either this year (vs the Rays anyway), but isn't Vic a step down defensively?

Doubtful, maybe in game calling though. Varitek can't throw anyone out. It's hard to go down from there. I think this move makes Boston favorites for the Cup.

I heard that Dolan gave Shapiro an ultimatum to get payroll down. About half the Indians payroll is tied up in Hafner, Jake Westbrook, and Kerry Wood. Those 3 are untradeable so they had to deal the reigning Cy Young winner, Victor Martinez, Betancourt, and Garko.
