Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (2 Viewers)

So, PS4 won't have backwards comparability(right?) but does anyone know if someone will be able to get PS3 games via ps online for the non ps3 owners?

Holy #### Dark Sorcerer for ps4 looks real.

So used games without restriction, no online checkin, free online except for multiplayer, cheaper than xboxone, better graphics and hardware ...... So why go Xbox? Exclusives? For TV? I assume smart Tvs and fios/Comcast receivers will be able to do all that stuff as well soon anyway.

Not to detract from the E3 coverage but I started playing Dark Souls and while I can appreciate the skill it takes to master the combat, this game just has nothing appealing to me. There's not really any story. The setting is boring to me. I have no attachment to my character because I have no clue WTF I'm supposed to be doing. Not in the sense that they don't tell you anything. In the sense that what is this guy's motivation? Just to wander around collecting souls to buy better weapons and armor for himself so he can get more souls? I'm not getting the whole overarching theme here.

I keep at it but it's not hooking me.

Any word on if they'll be offering some of the PS Plus stuff with this $5 a month?
Yeah that's what it is, it's PS+. It's just required now for multiplayer.
I see. Was any word given about whether PS+ on the PS4 will offer a bunch of high quality free games like it does on the PS3? Cause that'd be sweet.
Drive Club is free at launch with +.
Sweet. Sony pretty well killed it today from my perspective. Really happy to see them not follow in Microsoft's footsteps for online connectivity, used games usibility, and mandatory bundling the Move.

They also said Don't Starve, Outlast, and Secret Ponchos would be free sometime during the first year but I have no idea what those games are.

Shame the uproar about Sony killing Microsoft has nothing to do with exclusives so far. I'll be keeping a close eye on all this, but 100 bucks cheaper with more powerful hardware, used games, and no DRM is tough to beat. Especially since the Kinect is stupid.

Wouldn't be surprised to see MS announce a Kinect-free console option for $399 now. That's an expensive piece of equipment and drives up the price.

It is kind of sad that IMO there was not a single must have game between the bunch. Nothing that made me go WOW!

FYI right now if you are a gold member xbox is giving out a free digital copy of Fable III.

Also Diablo III has been confirmed for September on 360.

There is an amazing story and a bunch of really great environments. The story is something you have to absorb on your own, its not told to you because theres no one to tell it to you. The environments are all interconnected and have a surprising amount of history. It might just be because you figure things out on your own, but the story is one of the best stories in modern gaming.

The intro movie pretty much sets up the basic backstory, the world you play in is the remnants of the kingdoms built by those who defeated the immortal dragons and kindled the first flame. Lord Gwyn of the Sun, Gravelord Nito the first of the dead, the Witch of Izalith, Seath the Scaleless and the Furtive Pygmy.Story Spoilers:

The first flame is weakening and Lord Gwyn had no idea how to stop it from inevitably going out, he chose to divide his soul amongst his children, his silver knights and their generals aswell as the Four Kings of new londo before sacrificing himself to kindle the flame further. But it was in vain, after approximately a thousand years it began to weaken again. With the flame weakening the lord souls tied to it began to weaken as well. The Witch of Izalith tried and failed to kindle her own soul using fire sorcery turning herself into a monster, known as the Bed of Chaos.

Around this time, the primordial serpents who are said to predate the first flame started on a crusade to convince the lords that rekindling the first flame is a mistake and they should just let it burn out. They corrupted the Four Kings of new londo and convinced them to seal in the city and flood it killing everyone. In the time since all of that began and before the player shows up Seath the Scaleless has been researching and experimenting crystal magics hoping to someday be able to protect himself (being born without scales and all that). Gravelord Nito has been growing his army of the undead slowly and steadily encroaching on everyone elses lands. And finally, the furtive pygmy - humanity also known as the Dark Soul. Of the five Lord Souls it was the only truly unique one, all humans possess a piece of the dark soul. It has the power to reverse hollowing and to kindle the flames themselves. There is much much much more to it than this, but for a casual player this is the gist of why you are running around the world killing lords for their souls, to decide whether or not you will kindle the first flame.

If you are looking for story to be shown visually with a million cut scenes ala Mass Effect, this is not the game for you. This game series is not about cut scenes or epic story lines. The story is intentionally minimalistic to allow the incredible game play to shine. You learn about the world as you go and talk to people. Nothing in this game is spoon fed including the storyline. Part of its charm to some and why some do not like it.While I can easily understand this lack of spoon feeding is not appealing to some, I can't understand the comment about the setting being boring. The various interconnected areas are all so unique and wonderfully integrated.

Is there a link for this? (I went to bed about the time AC:BF came on, so I missed this if it was announced later on). Drive Club would be sweet.

Here is Outlast. I was unaware of the existence of this game prior to last night, but I definitely noticed it during the little "indie" segment.

Edit: Never mind. Found it.

I don't know. I can appreciate the level of detail that has gone into the game. It's a beautiful world. I just don't understand it's structure yet. I'm not one for big cutscenes either. But the opening movie did nothing for me. It might as well have been a mash up of many medieval and fantasy based stories I've seen or heard before. All people and creatures I've never heard of and don't know their place in things. But so many people swear by it so I'll keep going.

Well that's a little more for me to go on then. I have trouble anymore fighting through hordes of enemies for no reason. So I'll keep at this thing and see where it goes.

I'm glad there are two consoles around. As someone who greatly prefers the Xbox, I hope Sony pushes MS to change its strategy to be more competitive here (if not on price, at least on features).

Exactly. Competition is great for the consumer in this market. Sony just forced MS to do something on the used games front and probably a price drop or else get their asses kicked at the checkout.

I'm an Xbox guy - will switch to PS in the next generation most likely but I have only 2 concerns...

1. Is their online play up to the same level as XBox live? I've played both on the current gen and its not even close right now. I don't mind paying the $60 a year, but it needs to be quick and easy to set up games.

2. I'm going to purchase whatever my friends/family purchase. As much as I don't care for a lot of features being shown n the Xbox one, if everyone I know goes that route, so will I.

Minor 3rd concer: I thing the Xbox 360 controller is the best that's ever been created - kinda hope I can find an adapter to play with it on the ps4.

Just downloaded State of Decay on the Xbox Live Arcade. About an hour and a half in....digging it so far. Not your mindless, hack-em zombie title. Take strategy. A survivalist RPG.

Anyone else play?
Havent played yet, but it is on my radar -- glad to hear you enjoy it so far!

Keep us posted!
About 20 hours in. How is this game only $20? Feels like a $60 game....and then some. Some of the gameplay gets janky at times. Like when you enter/exit a room, the camera angles don't autoadjust, so sometimes you don't see the zombie (zed in this game) hop on and start munching away at your back/neck. Or you run right through downed tree or bush, then the camera gets stuck on the bush...which sends you into a panic trying to run free.

One thing I did not anticipate, was how awesomely perfect the permanent deaths were. My highest leveled character was killed. And, pathetic or not, I was genuinely sad.

The map is vast, so there is plenty of room to explore and the missions continually roll in. On top of all of that distraction, you have to keep your camp happy and healthy.

I'm gonna sink A LOT of hours into this one. Here's hoping that by the time I've explored this entire map, they release a new one.

Great to hear about this!

In your opinion, what combination of games does this remind you of?

I look at it this way: it's a combat / fighting game. You're in hell, you need to fight your way out (that's not the story, but it may as well be).

Go.

No chance. The Kinect is what the whole system is based on/around. MS can't be happy.

The most attractive aspect is the nearly perfect gameplay/battle mechanics. Fighting takes skill and you die because you aren't ready or you let your guard down.

He'll yes. Going to pick this up later tonight.

No games on the shelf at all, waiting for LOU to come out Friday. So fired up the old freebie, Dead Nation. Got it free for PSN being down that month of so. Man, I forgot how much I hate games like that. Talk about twitch and shoot. Ugh. Makes me appreciate how far games have come.

That's funny, because I really liked that game a lot. (For those not familiar with it, it's a retro top-down twin-stick shooter where you take out hordes of zombies). The art design was awesome I liked the sound. It was hard as hell though. I managed to beat it on Grim or whatever the third-highest difficulty is, and there was absolutely no way I was even going to attempt the next one. Anybody who got the platinum on that one gets a tip of the hat.

It was fun to co-op with my son. But honestly, it just isn't my kind of game. Like I said, it was free, so it was definitely a good deal. It's just not my thing.I may break down and grab Dark Souls when I go to pick up my copy of LOU. At that price, and given the love for it here, I think it's hard to go wrong.

Yeah, my son and I beat this too on co-op. It's funny because we argue with each other all the time whenever we co-op anything. It ticks off my wife.

My son is a loot whoooooooooore. I hate playing with him sometimes. "Hey dad, I just picked up this level 45 shotgun of ultimate destruction. I would give you my level 44.9 shotgun of nearly ultimate destruction, but I have to keep it in case we run in to Rarely-Seen Earl. But here, you can have this level 2 Rusty Pistol. Should be good enough for you."

Mentioned before but state of decay is well worth it. I have sunk hours into the game. It is kind of like the dream zombie game for me. Very GTAish I love the no load points aspect. You get a character killed and they are gone, time to get attached to someone else.

Also when you are not playing your game is still going on. You load back up and someone may have died on a mission, you are down some supples and up other supplies.

Sure there are some bugs but it is fun as hell

I saved chose to save the geth in ME2 and help them in ME3, plus I didn't want to kill EDI who was a good squadmate (voiced by Tricia Helfer and killing her would be just plain wrong) so I went with synergy instead of destroy.
I saved the Geth in 2 and 3, and thought about them. But it just seemed to me, after all I had gone through, I wasn't going to back down at the last minute and dilute the human genome with synthetic DNA. So, had to do it. I did forget about EDI. But I don't think I would have changed my mind based on her.Edit: After watching the other videos, I'm glad I chose the ending I did.
Just finished, chose the same ending you did, then watched the other three endings, and I'm with you....I like the destroy ending best

Yay!
Its the only ending that makes some sense. Plus I can't see how the geth and edi are truly dead. They are basically software inhabiting a physical platform. If a magical beam could destroy all software in the galaxy then there'd be a lot more to worry about.I think the godchild is lying to try and save its own neck. It is really hard selling you on synthesis and would settle for control. Despite those 2 things being exactly what the illusive man and the reapers have been striving for all 3 games. Destroy is what all the good guys have been trying to do all 3 games. To balk at the end because some ai that controls the reapers said it was bad would betray all they fought and died for. Plus it does say "even you are partly synthetic" insinuating that you would die if you chose destroy. Yet destroy is the only one where you live. So its lying.

I also liked the game. Very simplistic in nature (in terms of what you need to figure out) but pretty difficult at the higher levels. I got the Platinum for this game. The last level was called morbid, it was harder than grim but not a huge jump since your skill level and knowledge of your surroundings is pretty high by that time. I never did play the DLC. http://us.playstation.com/publictrophy/index.htm?onlinename=AndyLovesHisBge

It's just not my thing.I may break down and grab Dark Souls when I go to pick up my copy of LOU. At that price, and given the love for it here, I think it's hard to go wrong.
You have already played Demon Souls if memory serves so that should give you a good idea of how you will or dislike Dark Souls.

I have ME2 and ME3 plus Tomb Raider to trade in Friday. I am plumb outta games. So, I am heading to Gamestop to see what I can get on the cheap. Games I am thinking about:Dark Souls (only like $19 new on the website)Dues ExDragon's DogmaFar Cry 3Not sure what direction I want to go. Will probably come down to what couple of games on this list can I get at the best price. I will definitely get Last of Us, but I'll wait until the price comes down a bit most likely. That's the reason Infinite isn't on this list yet, nor Metro. They are both still to pricey. This is on the PS3 by the way.
For a pt of reference....Just bought bios hock infinite on eBay for $25

Shame the uproar about Sony killing Microsoft has nothing to do with exclusives so far. I'll be keeping a close eye on all this, but 100 bucks cheaper with more powerful hardware, used games, and no DRM is tough to beat. Especially since the Kinect is stupid.Wouldn't be surprised to see MS announce a Kinect-free console option for $399 now. That's an expensive piece of equipment and drives up the price.
It is kind of sad that IMO there was not a single must have game between the bunch. Nothing that made me go WOW!
After seeing the reviews on The Last of Us, i don't know why sony didn't pay them to make it a PS4 launch titile and spend the next couple months up-resing the graphics. A game like that at lauch could have made a HUGE difference in getting people to dive in. Yeah, your right, so far nothing that makes me go "I have to have this now".

Mentioned before but state of decay is well worth it. I have sunk hours into the game. It is kind of like the dream zombie game for me. Very GTAish I love the no load points aspect. You get a character killed and they are gone, time to get attached to someone else. Also when you are not playing your game is still going on. You load back up and someone may have died on a mission, you are down some supples and up other supplies.Sure there are some bugs but it is fun as hell
I don't get the perma death on this. Aren't there "saves" in the game that you can go back to or something, or does the game just really move forward with no way to save it?

yeah was my thought as well. Since its so damn close to launch date, I would think they could have delayed it a few months but its probably a real pain to do over the whole game for the new graphics and stuff for the developers.

Well, hopefully they would have decided that a while ago. Of course too late in the last couple months, but if the early game was looking like something they could hang their hat on for next gen, there was probably a point they could have made that decision.

Nice, I just picked up Arkham City and Assassin's Creed III off amazon for like $35 together. Love buying cheap games. Alomst got Far Cry 3 and Kingdoms of amaluar, both under $19 right now, but i'm loaded, so i'm hoping for a really good steam summer sale on those guys.

There are saves in the game, but once you die there isn't a checkpoint to go back to before your death. There is no way to save the game during gameplay. Everything is auto-saves.

And, truthfully, at first you don't like it....but it's really exactly how a zombie survival game should be. They absolutely nailed it.

Does it have a beginning and an end or is it a never-ending simulation?Multiplayer?

Nice, i was wondering how exactly that worked, and yeah, that is kinda a cool feature and works perfectly for what the game is. I saw the first hour or so of gameplay on ign, and thought it looks like it could be a lot of fun.

ThisI lost Mya real early by driving my car into a gas storage and exploding. I almost wanted to restart from scratch because it auto saved after it happened. Everyone at home was sad and I had to get someone to try an find her belongings to booste morale back at home. Then I started to get attached to other players instead of her and it just added to the overall experience. Deaths are going to happen.

Can you explain what you mean by up-resing the graphics? I was under impression that all early games released on the new consoles would be at 1080p max.
