Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (4 Viewers)

Just bought Ducktales remastered for $5.09. Cause why the #### not.
Bought Terraria for $2. Again, why not?
A lot of people like Terraria. I bought it a couple of years ago, but I never got into it. But again, I didn't really care for Minecraft either. I really wanted to like it.
Bought it and Trine 2 for the kids, mostly. I played one game of Papers, Please last night and was pretty darn hooked. They really did something cool in that game.
It's really hard to describe what makes Papers, Please so good. A game like that doesn't sound fun on paper (no pun), but it is. There's nothing like it.

So last night I sat down for a quick mission (yeah right) of FO. Decided to take the trek to the minefield. It was nighttime, and along the way I stumble past the junkyard and see some red blips and a blue one. The red ones quickly disappear and so I look down and see Dogmeat. Thought it was funny since we were just talking about it. Also was able to sneak up on Arkansas at the edge of town and take him out with a few shots of the 10mm. Nice haul from the houses in the town and getting the sniper rifle. Plus now I have my first companion!!
I'll never forget my first game of FO3. I went to the minefield first and fell right into Arkansas' trap. Explosions just kept erupting all around me. I died like 3 times before I figure out some nut was shooting the mines before I could disarm them. Good times.

Thats funny. I stumbled upon minefield but I pretty much creep everywhere. So I was creeping up on a red dot in a building thinking its just some Raiders. When I get close enough to VATS he still hasnt seen me but I notice he has a name. Arkansas. I was like well he'll probably kill me if he sees me so I just VATS head shot with the rifle and blew his head clean off from about 100 yards away. He never knew I was there.

Yep, Arkansas taught me, after about 5 deaths, that the cars don't make good cover lol

For those that wanted to know, Skyrim is on sale now for $5. Skyrim Legendary Edition (includes the 3 DLC) is $13.49. Deal is good for another 22 hours (and probably after that too).
An absolute steal.
Just got it! Finally time for some Skyrim action! Also picked up State of Decay which is something I've really wanted to try, both games for $18... I love the steam summer sale!

So, I started up Skyrim yesterday. Looks great, was fun, but HATE the computer controls. I think next investment will be a controller for the PC. I am sure that I would get used to it if I really wanted to, but probably a bit too long since I have played a game with that type of controls on the PC. Played for about an hour, got out of the initial town and wandered a little bit to find another town. We will see how I do at this game - looks a bit more in depth than FO, and I am really not that great at video games.
I envy you. My first experience of Skyrim is among most cherished video game memories. I did some exploring around the first town, crawled the first dungeon, then met a bard in an inn who told me about the Bard's College. Thinking I could become a bard, I set out at level 6 or 7 for Solitude. What an adventure that was.

I recommend not looking at anything Skyrim related on the net. Just enjoy the initial exploration, beauty, and danger. It's so immersive.
I am tempted to look at stuff, but this is probably the route I will go for awhile. having never played any of the elder scroll games, it looks intimidating with all the spells and stuff, but I assume having hours of wandering around the Fallout wastelands I should be fine for the most part.

was debating looking up is starting characters. didn't know if there is a huge difference for that too or if there was some more for beginners. I was going to restart to do some initial exploring, but will probably just wing the character too.
Whenever I start a game without wanting to use a guide, but still want to know about essential stuff I can potentially miss, I go to http://www.beforeiplay.com/index.php?title=Category:Games and look the game up. It gives you spoiler free tips on very general stuff not to miss.
Anyone else use this site? Sounds pretty cool, it's hard to start some of these big games, you don't "get" the character build until you are a couple hours in, and at that point, you are starting to get into the game and it sucks to just restart it all.

I'll probably see what it has to say about Skyrim before I get started.

Tomb Raider is on sale today. I've heard a lot of you guys have said some great things about that game, but I think I'd rather have it on my PS3 than the PC. Am I correct there? I love PC for RPG, shooter, and Strategy, but I think tomb raider is more of an action game that would be more fun to play on a game system.

Outlast is on sale today. After watching that second clip, there's now way in hell I'm playing that game.
It's now out on Xbone and I figure at some point it will be one of the first free games for gold members. I'll pick it up then.

Also I figure Child of Light will be one of those as well. My 8 year old thoroughly enjoyed it (about his level). I'd give it a 7.5/10 as it was beautiful and unique. 8 year old finished it - it really held his attention. Very child friendly, so no issues there.

I loved it on PC, but I don't have a console so I can't say.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is on Steam sale for $9.99 but it is on sale at GamFly for $4.99.

It's been referred to as the best game no one is playing.

IGN Review: http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/02/03/kingdoms-of-amalur-reckoning-review

Open worldish RPG kind of like Skyrim meets The Witcher. The story is only okay but the graphics are superb and the combat is a blast. The levelling system is reminiscent of Borderlands 2 (also on Steam sale) in that you can reset your skill trees pretty much whenever you want allowing you to try different styles of gameplay during the same game (I wish more games offered that option).

State of Decay kind of sucks. Difficult to see things. It's open world but not like FO3, you have the next mission to accomplish. I'll stick with it for a little longer.

anyone pick up the World Cup game
Is it much different than FIFA? Looks like a lesser game for full price. Sort of like EA did a few years ago for NCAA Basketball during the tournament with only tournament teams.

I think I was taught that lesson early too. I wandered around a little bit after finishing up in the Supermarket. Got the area just past the subway entrance on the way towards the Tepid Sewers. A Brute across the river started shooting the crap out of me and I ducked behind a car.

What I learned in Minefield was how damn hard it was to see some mines with my old eyes.

The mines are hard to see.

So I finally hit the Deathclaw Sanctuary. Could have used more Deathclaws. But it was a spooky little maze of a cave and I admit I jumped a couple of times. Deathclaws apparently have some resistance to being spotted on the Pip boy here. And it so dark you don't see them until they are right on top of you. Also Endurance bobblehead is here. You only have to kill one DC to get it in the very first open area in the cave. You could sneak back out at that point. But you have to go deeper in the cave if you want Vengeance which is a souped up gatling laser. Also you can find a ripper knife named Jack of course. I don't really use knives but any named weapon is worth collecting.

Launched some nukes. Found a satcom tower that was in contact with a nuclear platform in space. It was kind of fun to watch the mushroom clouds but it just nukes the area around the tower.

Also got through Ft Constantine with all the special keys. Neat armor but it isn't as good as the Winterized you get by completing the Ancohorage sim and I am not even sure how to repair it. Didn't launch the ICBM yet. Where does it go? Who does it nuke? These are the questions I had. Anyone know?

Got the guy in downtown with the loudspeaker to shut up. Of course I got some poor guy blown up doing it, but still, small price to pay.

Agreed. I like the idea but the execution gets really frustrating at time. I set it aside when the Dragon Age master set showed up.

I ripped through this game non-stop and really enjoyed it. It's very easy (even with my aged reflexes I got through it on hard difficulty) making it fun to pick up and play for minutes at a time.

There's a similar game out there called Two Worlds 2 (dumb name). It's much harder and not nearly as enjoyable

So unbelievably excited for Halo: The Master Chief Collection. I think I'll buy an XBox One just for the opportunity to play Halo 2 again. Although I'm kinda bummed to be hearing that there won't be the original 1-50 ranking system.

Also, does anyone in here play on a Nintendo 3DS? I bought one last week and have been having fun on Mario Kart 7 and Mario Golf.

Finished Mass Effect (again) yesterday. Killed Ashley this time because this go around, I found her more annoying than Kaiden.

Started ME2 (again) and forgot how jarring the transition from one to the other is, graphically, controls, leveling system. Hard to go right from one to the other.

There is a lot of discussion that is non-fallout related.

But hey I seem to be a big part of why Fallout is getting discussed so just let me know and I can certainly not talk about the video game I am playing in the video game thread for what we are playing and looking forward to.
Why did I just know someone would get their panties in a bunch? Whatever, have at it. I realize it's pretty tough and can take a good 10 or 20 seconds to start a new thread.

lol

So the flash deal includes Papers Please and I snagged that (tons of fun so far - been waiting on this one). Also sprung for Trine 2 and Tiny and Big.

Darn you Steam.

That said, hoping for the full Civ V pack to go on super duper sale. :bag:
i got papers please as well. enjoyed it for an hour or so. it gets pretty frenetic by day 3.

Just bought Plague Inc Evolved and State of Decay. Will report back.

Anyone else playing/played these?
i play plague inc on my i-devices. it's a fun diversion, with a learning curve for some of the bugs. Well worth the $5, imo.

State of Decay is a blast if you like that sort of thing. it's resource management with rudimentary zombie combat, but it can be really fun. I played the hell out of it on 360, and I recently downloaded the military expansion.

I'm interested to read how you enjoyed them!

EDIT: I see now you didn't like SOD. I can understand that. Curious if you played with a keyboard\mouse or controller?

i started with ME2 on PS3. bought ME trilogy last year... still haven't finished the original. I haven't played the third yet :(

So I see hitman: Absolution is on sale for $5. Was a pretty highly rated game, but never played any of the hitman's. Worth checking out?

It's not great but it's worth $5. It's been offered free to PS and XB premium subscribers in the last 6 months or so.
Yeah I think I skipped downloading it when it was on for free.
I haven't played it yet but it gets an 81 on Metacritic and IGN (which gives it a 9) compares it favorably with Dishonored which I really enjoyed.

For $3.99 it seems like you will get your moneys worth pretty easily..

I'd give Dishonored a "B" rating and Hitman something like a C+, personally.

Zero purchases on the summer sale so far. :hifive: Of course, I have over 200 games as of last sale with more unredeemed in indie bundles.

I was doing well until yesterday. Had to grab Darksiders bundle after having remorse of missing the THQ bundle a couple of years back (right before they sold themselves off into pieces).

After seeing it mentioned a ton I am going to figure out what this Steam thing is you'll refer to all the time.

In the meantime, I continued my quest(s) in the ruins of Washington D.C. Saw a place on the map I hadn't been to before - Ol Olney and near it Vault 92. Ol Olney was fun. Deathclaws galore. It's really not fair to the bad guys when you have Fawkes. But it's funny. Played around in the sewers under the town. And then found Vault 92. I haven't found the old lady yet to do the quest there (which I didn't know existed until I was done playing and looked it up) and didn't really examine each and every room that closely but I will go back.

Question on Ol-Olney sewers - there was a spot where there was a cave dug and it just ended in a dead end with a generator light and a skeleton - is that supposed to be something like they were trying to dig into the Vault, or did my game glitch and there should have been another room there? I was expecting like a Deathclaw chamber or something and it was just nothing.

I think that was a failed dig. The violin quest is the old lady. Make sure you get the sheet music and the violin. You get a good gun for it.

Yeah saw that.

Holy hell, with the DLC's the wiki page on this game says there are 221 locations on the map. Criminey. I only have like high 30's low 40's. I absolutely went through the main story line way way way too fast. They might want to consider some kind of lock on the main story the way GTA does it until you get through certain side stuff or levels just to keep the continuity a little better.

Yeah I just found my 200th location Sunday. All I have left are downtown locations.

All I'm sayin...... This game is huge.

I have 150+ hours in Skyrim about halfway through the main quest maybe a bit more. And I have just started to scratch the surface really. FO3 was probably a really big game when it came out but todays open worlds are just amazingly huge. I hear the Witcher 3 is going to give Skyrim a run for it's money on size. That is going to one huge world if so.

Skyrim sounds interesting. I don't know if I can enjoy magic type games though. But I'm considering it
Some magic is neccesary. You would want to carry some magic weapons for example and you would want to repair/recharge them so that requires some magic skills but not a lot. Alway nice to have destruction magic to use. But I generally rely on being badder than anyone/anything I run into. Takes some planning but it works.

Props to NC for telling me about Vengeance in the Deathclaw Sanctuary. I did this last night with my level 30 guy. Fawkes and I made quick work of the deathclaws, and now I'm tooling around with Vengeance with Fawkes backing up with a reg laser gatling gun. We are pretty much an unstoppable death machine.

This character has the Explorer perk, so I'm hitting all the unvisited locations on the map. Got a couple vaults to go. And the Betheseda ruins.
