Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (3 Viewers)

Arkham Origins is a really fun game. A little better polished than AC and a pretty decent story line so far. Wrll worth the $7.50 I paid.
Definitely a fun game and I think the story telling was really good. One thing to be aware of is a bug on a side mission (called Bird or something like that). At one point you need to break up a gang fight on the docks, DO NOT USE THE COMBO K.O. (E button on keyboard) TO FINISH THE LAST GUY!!! For whatever reason if you use that on him you will not be able to interrogate him and you will be unable to continue that mission. It's not an integral story mission but it is still very frustrating if you like to play side missions.
Yea it has bugged out a couple times. First boss fight with croc the sound went crazy and some of the planes of existence disappeared. With the previous games having scarecrow and Mad Hatter I thought it was deliberate but no, just a glitch.
I haven't had any glitches other than the one I posted (PC gamer). Otherwise the gameplay has been very smooth. I really like the style and mechanics of this series.
My game kept crashing last night on the Copperhead scene. Probably my pc but I have plenty of RAM and what I thought was an adequate video card.My favorite parts are when youre fighting a large group and Batman just starts to go crazy chaining attacks together. It looks so badass.
Yes, yes it does. The combat dynamics are really excellent particularly as you get to larger groups of mixed opponent type. You get an armored, a shield carrier, a bruiser, a knifer*, a couple dudes with guns, a stun baton and a martial arts master and you constantly have to think about your attacks. There is no way this game is simply a button masher, timing and the right attacks are everything.I always have the most trouble with guys armed with knives. I can dodge them well enough but I haven't mastered the counter so I always lose my stacks when dealing with them.
Just started getting the hang of knifers. Took a while not to mash y and just hold it in.

My goal in these games is to first build up my bullet resistance to max and then my melee defense to max. Always helps in fights which is what you do 75% of the time.

I went defense strong early too, guns don't show up a ton until later so you may want to go with melee early then guns but either way works I'm sure.

However, for the late game, the Disarm & Destroy perk, which is the reward for the glitched mission I mentioned earlier, would definitely be a bonus...or at least I really think it would be but I'll never know because of the ####### glitch!

So my Arkham Origins save file kept crashing the game every time I tried to load it. Apparently there is a known issue with the Copperhead elevator scene crashing the game. There's a manual work around I had to do to get it from fatally crashing every time I loaded.

Bummer. Thankfully I did not have that problem.

No worries. Just had to adjust some code in the bmengine.ini file. Simple work around compared to most but I wish I knew what the cause is and why changing this line of code makes the difference.

Just checking in - any solid RPGs for PS4 yet? What I last played was Dragon Age (big fan) and Skyrim (awesome) on PS3.
Not a PS4 expert, but the next big RPGs I know of start coming out in Oct. Mid Oct is Dragon Age: Inquisition, then the next one is sometime early next year, Witcher 3. Both look pretty good to me and I'm kinda stoked for them.
Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor is out in Oct as well...looks better than both IMO.
Yeah, I had forgotten about that. I didn't really notice that until recently. I didn't think it was going to be anything special until I saw some videos, it definitely looks to be more original than the other two, and really could be good. I'm intrigued by it. I think I'm just more excited for the other two as DA:O was one of my favorite modern RPG's, and with the Witcher, I'm actually a fan of the books too.
What looks the best to me out the upcoming RPGs is Lords of the Fallen with Shadow of Mordor in a close second. Mordor looks cool since you can essentially control an orc and then in turn control any orcs he controls.

Anyone play a bunch of the Lego games? Already completed Lego Marvel (amazing), Lego Lord of the Rings (great), Lego Star Wars (on the Ipad), and Lego Batman 2 (meh) with my 5 yr old. I wasnt crazy about Lego Batman 2 because when you change your character, the other player has to sit there and wait. Its maddening playing with a 5 yr old lol. Anyway, we're ready for another game. Dont wanna spend the money on Lego Hobbit yet so was thinking about Lego Pirates of the Carribean. Is it fun? Does it have the same stupid character selection system as Lego batman or is it like the other games.

Only did Lego STar Wars, sorry. (Great game by the way. we bought the all games in one for the Wii a few years ago and devoured those games something fierce.)

FO3 question

So now that I have the Explorer perk and can see everything I obviously have a lot to do. It seems to me that they could have a lot more to the main story and a lot more side missions or battle events at these locations to make them more than just an explore type place. Not so much a complaint than a comment.

Roosevelt Academy - what's the point there? And it's huge. Haven't done the whole thing yet and have to go back to do so.

I did one of the robot repair facilities - can't remember the name but not the main RobCo factory that is part of the quest (It's the one near the town that has the Ant woman that you kill). Really nothing going on in there either except a bunch of broken robots and few that tried to kill me. A ton of scrap metal obviously - I think I have like 100 of them now to sell again - but that's about it. Did I miss something?

Anytime I leave Megaton now by the front door instead of fast travel there is a fricken Deathclaw right outside the gate. Doesn't annoy me to kill him (and hear Fawkes laugh as we do it) but because of it I don't have the trader out front ever now. Kind of a bummer.

I can only get to the White House through the sewers, correct? Is there any reason to go there (like do you go inside the west wing and the oval office?

The chick who leads the Regulators ran away once when I was there - I think there were scorpions outside or something - I tried to catch up to her and it just said she is fleeing. Since then she hasn't been back to the HQ and I have like 100 fingers to give her. What gives there? The sole reason I chose that perk was to get money for fingers or I would have just chosen the bad one instead and had some fun.

Am I the only one that gets anxious to go in the metro system? Like to the point that I try to avoid it? Good music and game setup in there but like I said previously, being scared or getting tense is not my cup of tea with video games. So because of that I probably have a ton of the metro still to explore. I only did what was absolutely necessary in the main story line and quests that take me there. I met the goul who wants candy but haven't gone back to sell him anything and I obviously got the blood perk from the vampires which helps a ton with recovery. But other than that - I just really don't feel like going down there but I assume I am missing alot.

I still haven't done the final main mission yet because I still don't have the DLC's downloaded yet and don't want my main game to end - but by the same token, I am finding what is going on right now a little repetative - search, kill everything, shop, get overencumbered, give Fawkes everything he can carry. Grab the rest, go back to Megaton house to unload, sleep, do the next one. I know there are still a few side quest missions out there I haven't hit yet but I am wondering if I should just start over and try the game a different way and learn from my early mistakes.

Oh, speaking of which the canable town with the little kid in the playground. That was not as entertaining as it could have been. Broke into the outside garage, saw everything, came out and they confronted me. I did all positive speech stuff to make them like me and drop their guard, and then when they let me leave I totally used the combat shotgun on various craniums before they knew what hit them. Only ones left now are the old man and two kids - is there anything I need to do with that town now or just let it rot?

And I guess for NC - let's assume that I start over - what should I shoot for in the GOAT? I'm guessing get explosives as high as possible so that I can diffuse the bomb immediately and get the house? The hosue really seems to be a massive help right away.

Yeah, that's kinda what I meant by the originality of Mordor. Never really seen that type of game mechanic in there, and what look to be different ways to move on to new targets. It looks like you can do it by absolutely destroying their lower levels and making them come to you, or as you say by controlling their underlings to get to them. Just looks like it could be interesting and hopefully work really well.

Never heard of Lords of the Fallen at all. Has that been talked about here before? I'll have to do some research on it.

Yankee, do a google search for the locations you are interested in. There should be a FO3 wiki page that has all the details you are looking for.

Played in the wrong order IMO. Lego Marvel is the best of the bunch and each subsequent game tends to be a bit better from a gameplay standpoint. Lego Batman 2 was incredible when it came out and improved on so many of the bad things of the earlier Lego games. I can't remember where Pirates came out but it was ok. Lego Star Wars is a great game but the selection process is crappy as well.

I posted the original trailer with gameplay earlier in the thread. And I just saw it's dropping on Oct 31. Well there goes Oct, Nov and Dec.

First trailer I saw. Just found this from E3 but haven't watched it yet.

So is Dragon Age Inquisition just going to be EA's attempt to duplicate Skyrim? Looks a lot like that.

Yea and for the Regulators chick, she's gone. Happened to me too.

Looks that way. I have tempered expectations of Inquisition and Witcher 3. Thought Origins was ok same with Witcher 2.
I just don't see it being a "duplicate Skyrim" thing. Now to be clear, I have not yet played Skyrim, just got it in the summer sale, but the elder scrolls games have seemed to have always been more concentrated in the open world, make this game what you will of it, whereas the bio-ware games have always been much more story driven and really about playing the story they are telling you.

Skyrim, while yes, it has a story and you go along with it, the goal in that game seems to be making your character exactly what you want, making your gay orc fighter and marrying him to the blacksmith in some town, or whatever the hell that guy was talking about doing before. Building your house and filling it with stuff. That's what people love about it. Hell, I don't think anyone liked the oblivion story all that much, and it could probably be finished in a couple hours if that's just what you did.

The bioware games always go for the large party, in-depth storytelling. They introduce you to a bunch of characters, craft a story around them and try to have what's happening matter to you, sometimes pretty successfully. While yes, I think they are trying open world I don't think they are even trying to duplicate Skyrim by any means.

Not sure if the game will be great, but I'm really looking forward to it.

Ok So Roosevelt Academy doesn't have anything super special as I recall. Lots of skill books and some sheet music. A stealth boy or three. But other than getting to kill a bunch of mutants that's it.

On Megaton same thing for me. Not always Deathclaws but always something. Lots of robots actually.

White House. No West Wing the only thing left is the bunker that you enter through the sewer opening on Penn Ave. Lots of radiation. Some weapons and a skill book IIRC.

Not sure on Regulator chick never used her as a follower.

The sewers don't bother me. I do a lot of dungeon crawls given the games I play. So I am kind of used to it.

Cannibal town if those 3 are left you are done. They stay friendly when you go back through. The boy always says he wants to be like me.

So now to the GOAT. I set my Explosives so I was at 30 when I left the vault. Like you I find the house invaluable. I also set my small guns as one of the skills. And I set lockpick as the last one. I didn't even bother with the test. The guy will let you set it and leave if you ask right. Now when I started putting points in after leaving the vault I also put some point into speech each time. i know some say they don't bother but in these games you miss some stuff if you have low speech.

So I haven't really gotten any game time in this weekend. But I did sit down for a bit and was checking out the Xbox Gold discounts. Call of Juarez Gunfighter is 3 dollars and some change. Played the demo. The mechanics are a little weird to me. The having to hit three buttons to do the gunfight is pushing it a bit. But after dying a couple of times I got it. In fact I died a bunch trying to figure it all out. I want a rifle from the start darn it. But I digress. It looks like an interesting story. And as I get better at the mechanics I am killing more efficiently.

I think I saw this game mentioned earlier but if you would humor me what did you guys think? Not my usual thing as it seems very on a rail. Even warned me when I wandered too far to one side of the ranch where the demo happens. But that can still be good if it isn't too obvious. With all the open world games I play I sometimes feel hemmed in now by the smaller games.
So after watching some Let's Play videos I have decided this looks like it is worth 3 and change. Definitely on a rail. To the point the game drops you at every mission site. But I guess that makes sense in the context of you are telling the story. You wouldn't include the wandering around stuff. Looks like a good game for in between Fallouts.
Got it for dirt cheap on a Steam sale. Played the intro mission a couple days ago and I have to admit I liked the style of the game. Mechanics are smooth enough and the story, while it looks like it will be very linear, is interesting enough so far. It looks like it will be only around 10-15 hours of game play (according to howlongtobeat.com) so I will definitely finish it unless it goes completely off the rails.

Yes. An apt in tenpenny tower.
so it isn't that important to be good and diffuse the bomb?

thought about seeing what bad was like and waiting until my lockpick is up, looting the place, and then blowing it up.
Yeah you can have one or the other (or neither) depending on what you do with the bomb. But you can't lockpick either the Megaton house or the place in Tennpenny. I know that's not what you meant but just to clarify, they're both key only.

Yeah it looks like about 15 hours or so. Which will make a nice break between big games. I played the demo which I guess is also the first mission and except for the shootout the controls are ok. Shootout has a lot going on.

I believe you can go through the outer door to the tenpenny apt under certain circumstances without blowing up Megaton.

Yeah I am not entirely following you on the problem with the first combat sequence. It seemed to be a standard FPS in that regard except you can slow down the action for brief periods. It was just standard aim, shoot, crouch, run etc. combat experience in my experience. Or is there another type of shootout? Maybe a quick draw or something?

Just started Portal 2 for the PS3 and am really enjoying it. Loved the first Portal on the PC many years ago.
Excellent game.
The Portal series is top 10 all time. Probably top 5.
The innovation. The humor. The surprisingly well thought out story. It was just an unexpected treasure and it was a throw in to tag along with Half Life 2.
The series is one of the best to get non gamers into the hobby. It's more than a game really, it's an experience. And in the second one it is also shared.

Wait. Portal isn't just a series of red door / blue door puzzles?
You do have to work for the story a bit, it's not explicitly spelled out. There is most definitely an overarching narrative though to accompany the witty dialogue.

You could probably get both for a combined $10. They're not notch.

I'm in the minority that wasn't enamored with Portal.
They're both really good games that completely lack any semblance of replay value. The puzzles are good and the humor keeps things entertaining, but once you've played them, that's it.
Actually for me, it's the one game I've ever got into speed-running with. Not in the sense that I'm gonna glitch for a 12 minute game, but it would track your board times and I'd compete against my brothers/friends for low time.

There was the shootout with Pat Garrett at the end of the mission. On the XBox you can control hand placement, aim and fire. To get your best score you need all three. It takes a bit of practice to get all 3 going and still be ready when you need to draw.

It'sd a pretty decent side mission. Plus you end up being able to sell them map data for all the locations you have found.

It looks like it will be only around 10-15 hours of game play (according to howlongtobeat.com) so I will definitely finish it unless it goes completely off the rails.
Yeah it looks like about 15 hours or so. Which will make a nice break between big games. I played the demo which I guess is also the first mission and except for the shootout the controls are ok. Shootout has a lot going on.
There was the shootout with Pat Garrett at the end of the mission. On the XBox you can control hand placement, aim and fire. To get your best score you need all three. It takes a bit of practice to get all 3 going and still be ready when you need to draw.
Yeah I only got to the house with Billy the Kid in it and not to that point yet. Interesting.

Sorry I didn't mean to spoil it for you. I thought you had already gone through the whole first mission.

I thought I had too. No worries, I already guessed that Garrett was going to be the boss fight so it doesn't sound like much of a spoiler.
