Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (8 Viewers)

I own a very nice PC or 3 :bag: , an original XBox, an XBox 360. Looking into the PS world, was thinking a PS3 for the games from last gen, but I guess my question would be is there any reason to get the PS3 vs PS4 right now? I do not know the must-play games on that, and if it is available on PC, I would get it there anyway. If it was both consoles, I can get it on the 360. I know Last of Us is a big one, but it is on PS3 and PS4. Thoughts?
IIRC, PS3's haven't been backwards compatible in a long time.

I would definitely go PS4 if you want to venture into the PS world.
I think the Uncharted games are by far the best on PS so I'd go PS3 unless they are porting that series.
Uncharted 2 was great.

The first one was cool...but clunky and the third was a good one.....agreed it was a great series overall.

Been playing Wasteland 2, Xcom Long war and FTL and have been perfectly happy. Lots of new stuff out there I want to try, just not seeing the need.

I own every PS system.

Just got my PS4 2 months ago. I would splurge for that if your ready to dive into the PS gaming world. The PS3 is rich with a great catalog of games though and most are cheap and 20 bucks or less now. I still am playing my PS3 games on a regular rotation with my PS4 sports games.

If your really into RPG's, action RPG's I would pick up a PS3 just to play:

The Mass Effect series PC

Skyrim PC

Dead Space series PC

Red Dead Redemption XB360

The Last of Us (either system but cheaper on PS3)

The Batman trilogy PC

Fallout 3 PC

Far Cry 3 PC

All those titles alone would take up a good year of gaming if you play them all the way through and are an exploration type of gamer.

I strictly picked up the PS4 to play sports games for now while I still play through my backlog of PS3 games.

Madden 15 XB360

NBA 2K15

The Show 14

Is all I am playing on the PS4 for now....I will wait till next year to start buying some PS4 non sports games when the prices drop on those (Dragon Age 3, The Evil Within, Far Cry 4 to name a few).

I did pick up Alien Isolation though for a holiday gift for my son. He loves the Alien movies (as do I) and we both played through Alien vs Predator (highly underrated game and sharp graphics) on PS3 and Alien Colonial Marines (great co-op fun in spite of the shoddy story and graphics).

If your a sports gamer.....grab a PS4. It's awesome.

Non-sports....I would pick up a PS3 now and game for a few years for far less money.
All of those you mentioned with the sole exception of LoU is PC or 360, and I have played them all on those systems. I guess in a way that does answer the question about the need for a PS3. No. I will always default to PC, as graphics and so much is just better.

Right now, I am playing Lords of the Fallen on XB1.

Not too far in, but so far, I am enjoying it. It's basically Dark Souls-lite. More of a "game" than a death simulation :) The combat is similar - very weighty, with rolling / blocking playing a big part. But it's not as punishing. You will die (and need to go back and collect your experience, although this time, it's on a timer), but nowhere near as much as in a Souls game.

Personally, while I loved Souls combat, the game simply wasn't fun enough - I grew tired of the overly-brutal difficulty. So far, this game seems a little more to my liking. It's still tense in a "what's around the corner" aspect, but not quite so insta-death. You feel a little more powerful than you ever did in a Souls game.

Again, not terribly deep into it, but has been enjoyable.
Dark Souls is my favorite game of all time. LoTF sounds horrible. The difficulty of the Souls games are way overstated.

Had a $75 Dell eGift card from some business order, used it to get a preorder of DA: Inquisition Deluxe Edition. Came within pennies of the full value. Now I just have to hope it doesn't blow nor feel like a Skyrim clone.

This one is on my BUY list. Target is having a Buy 2 Get 1 Free sale starting November 8th. I'll be grabbing:

Sunset Overdrive

Lords of the Fallen

COD: Advanced Warfare (maybe something else in place of this)

I've been enjoying the story in Wasteland 2 but for some reason it wears my laptop out. Normally I don't experience any slowdown, even with FPSs, but in this thing, just moving items around between inventories is a real chore. The cursor staggers around like a drunken...well, me. Seems weird considering it's not a graphics-heavy game.

Might try lowering the resolution and going with the bare minimum graphics settings if you haven't already.. It struggled on my laptop as well

I have an Alienware rig coming in the next week or so. This will be the first time in over 5 years that I can run current PC games.

Any recommendations? Shadows of Mordor is a must buy. After that? I'm more of a Skyrim/role playing guy, though I don't hate first-shooters if they have a sci-fi twist.

Anything else?
What did you get? I've been looking at their stuff for a while, but waiting until DDR4 comes out (which it just did) to buy anything.

Thoughts on it?

ETA - I haven't played Wasteland 2 in a week and a half because I cleared one of the ginormous maps, got to the last unmapped area and got killed and then realized I hadn't saved the entire time and autosave only kicks in when you change maps :wall:

well, I'll put it this way: I feel your armor matters more in this game.

Out of work until spring due to a broken leg/ankle, I restocked on some games to keep me busy. I realize I am behind the times here:

GTA 4

WWE 2k14 &15

Advanced Warfare

Dishonored 2

I have another 60+ in Xbox cash that I am thinking on either Destiny or a couple reduced price stuff. Happy gaming, FBGs.

^^I like it. The graphics are great, and the controls are easy. I haven't bought a wrestling game in years, but this one is quite fun. I've found that it pretty difficult to complete some objectives though. My kids (6 & 4) like it too.

ETA: 2k14 has better unlockable guys though through all the Wrestlemanias.

My recommendation is to save your money and buy WWE 2k14 instead unless you're next-gen. The only differences in the last-gen version of 2K14 vs 2K15 is:

- 2K14 has your 30 years of Wrestlemania mode, which is awesome for old wrestling fans.

- 2K15 has Who Got NXT mode where you can play as 5 NXT stars (although 2 Bo Dallas and Rusev have gone to main roster since). Once everyone is unlocked, they go into Proving Ground to beat John Cena.

- 2K15 has 2K showcase where you relive 2 big rivalries out of box: Shawn Michaels vs Triple H and John Cena vs CM Punk

Other than those things, the main difference is the roster. 2K14's roster had more legends while 2K15's roster is updated with almost every star that's relevant today.

Gameplay is identical in both games, which is great. It's the best wrestling games have been since No Mercy, IMO.

One caveat that I have to say is that 2K disappointed me with 2K15, because they dropped a lot of features that were already in 2K14, such as custom entrance music for Superstars. Both last-gen games has 100 spots for CAWs. Next-gen will only have 25 spots. However, the next-gen version will have the highly anticipated MyCareer mode.

Bottom line: If you haven't watched in years and you were a big fan in other eras, buy WWE 2K14 instead.

IGN reviewed WWE 2K14 a 8.7 out of 10 vs a 5.9 for WWE 2K15.

"IGN gave the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions a 5.9 out of 10, saying: "WWE 2K15 is like seeing Brock Lesnar going from breaking The Undertaker's streak to losing to Hornswoggle during the pre-show in back-to-back WrestleManias. Not only is it surprising, it's also pretty sad. I would frequently grab my copy of last year's grappler with the intent to quickly check some changes, only to find myself reluctant to switch back due to the far better roster and single-player experience. Do yourself a favor, save your money, and buy WWE 2K14. The minor improvements to combat and commentary in 2K15 don't even come close to making up for what was lost."

No. This year's is the first on Xbox One. You're covered on the Rock and HBK. I don't recall who is supposed to be added on DLC, but I don't expect anymore Attitude era guys, since they put a lot of focus on that the last 2 years.

2k15 has the following 80s and 90s (Attitude & WCW) era wrestlers:

  • Hogan (80s & Hollywood - Hogan edition/downloadable)
  • Stone Cold Steve Austin
  • Kane
  • Jericho
  • Rey Mysterio
  • RVD
  • Sting (early 90s and Crow - pre-order)
  • Rock
  • Undertaker
  • Triple H
  • HBK
Obviously, there is some crossover from the Attitude era guys to today (ie, Jericho, Undertaker, Triple H, etc.) and I may have skipped over some, but here is the complete roster: http://wwe.2k.com/index.php/roster/2k15

In re the mediocre 2k15 reviews, to be fair, those were for the old gen systems. Presumably more effort was put into the new/current gen platforms this year.

:excited:

Now if I can find time away from Halo, I'll give this a go.

PS4 2K15 nation.....below is my official Pro/Sim/Real FG/FT% slider set to be used along with Timsmooth's Official edited 2K roster with tendencies, ratings and playbooks all fully edited to bring you the absolute best 2K15 simulation experience.

Hello Hoops fans!

It's been a long time since I created a slider set for 2K Basketball. 2K11 was the last game I had a set as it was the only version I have ever truly played. I am never going to claim I am a great 2K b-ball master. In fact that is why I am calling this set an "Average Joe" set. So what does that mean you ask? Well let me tell ya. I boost the human player sliders ever so slightly because the CPU gives me a superb challenge on Pro/Sim/Default. So much so I need to tweak some of my own shooting sliders and attribute sliders to compensate so I can have fun, competitive games and play season after season after season...just like I did on 2K11 (4 full 82 game seasons in fact with my beloved Miami Heat).

Things I hope this set will bring to you are:

1. Balanced and diverse game-play from the CPU

2. Fun, Fun, Fun!!!!

3. Fouls at a realistic clip

4. Realistic shooting percentages, rebounds, turnovers, and scores/stats

I will tell you that the game is deep, and it has such a huge and diverse way to game plan for every single team in the league. I simply suggest before you play each team for the first time in your season schedule use the coaching game plan feature to set your POE's and then change them in game as needed. Player development is deep and pretty awesome. Individual match-ups are critical to adjust and adapt to what is going on in the game. So you need to be able to make these coaching adjustments accordingly or you will lose a lot. I can also tell you I use the play book to it's fullest and call a lot of sets as well as run free flow and quick plays.

So most importantly.....I am not looking to tweak and twist the knobs very much as I can already tell ya...the game plays pretty incredible near default. You will see the major tweaks I made are to fouls, offensive rebounds and box out assistance (thanks to Wolf for those settings). Some human shooting sliders and attributes....and that is pretty much it.

These sliders are designed for those that have a real coaching/adjustment mentality. The coaching options 2K has given us are second to none. Truly awesome.

If you try to just iso and improvise and not run set plays.....you will be roasted.

If you have a CPU player on a run and you don't adjust his individual defensive settings....you will be roasted.

I played my first game of MyLeague vs the Wizards and Wall and Nene were killing me (I am the Heat of course) I switched up Bosh for McRoberts, and had Birdman play some extended minutes in the 4th quarter...and Bosh shut him down. I had Wall doubled at the perimeter and had smother on off ball....I finally slowed him down and was able to eek out a 96-93 win at home after being behind as much as 9 in the 4th quarter.

It's all about making adjustments and trying to regain the tempo you want. Also as always basketball is a game of match-ups. Once you recognize the CPU's attempts at exploiting their advantage in any particular match-up the better chance you have at victory.

Now sometimes you can make all the adjustments you want...but if your shooting cold and your simply over matched....well...that's basketball. Sometimes you will get lucky and get hot and the CPU goes cold.

No two games are going to play alike on 2K15....it's a thing of beauty. Couple that with a set of sliders that fit your particular stick skills and you are in sports video game heaven.

Anyway.....I am still working through this set and I am sure within 2-3 weeks we will be pretty much set in the values I want to get the kind of game I like to play. It is a matter of does your skill level and approach match or is similar to mine.

And then tweak from there.

I have very little doubt these will be too easy for a lot of veterans of this series who have far better stick skills and a better working knowledge of basketball than me.

This set is specifically designed for specific type of niche player of the 2K series. A casual player who wants a sim experience without feeling helpless.

Hard does not equal fun. I want balance. I want to beat teams I should, lose ocassionally to teams I should not, get beat by better teams, and also pull off some upsets.

The key word's for my slider approach are balance, fun, but realistic stat's and feel. What you see on TV....is the best way I can put it.

So if it is too easy and by that I mean your just a god and blowing out teams on a nightly basis after say 10-12 games.....it's ok...move on to a tougher set.

Pro/Sim/default was too hard for me. That's why I created these off that base.

I will post the "MyLeague" settings I am using as well...but please keep in mind this is my first 2K since 2K11 and the MyLeague settings will be an ongoing work in progress through my first season to see how things go. There is just so much customization available to us.

I am using Timsmooths Official 2K15 roster and highly recommend them in conjunction with these sliders for the ultimate MyLeague/MyGm simulation experience!

Anyone interested in my XBOne copy of Lords of the Fallen? It's really a cool game but I get way too frustrated playing, could be the controls or that it's too difficult for me, but I'm out. PM me if interested.

I haven't watched wrestling in years but WWE 2k15 intrigues me for some reason.

I'm on XBox One, and if I played I would want to play the Rock, Stone Cold, Mankind, HBK, etc.

2K14 not on XB1?

I admit that I forgot Austin was in the game. Sting was a pre-order bonus, but you'll still have the option of buying him via DLC (I had a downloaded CAW of him last year that looks better than the one they have. Again, I'm referring to the 360 version here). 80's Hogan will be available via the Ultimate Warrior story DLC, but current Hogan and Hollywood Hogan are exclusive to the next-gen Hulkamania Edition and reportedly won't be added as DLC and won't be available period on last-gen. Again, buying the Hulkamania edition is the only way to have anyone in the game that Sting actually had a feud with, aside from Kevin Nash, Booker T and a Evolution version of Ric Flair (none of which, oddly enough, are listed on the game roster posted above).

The rest of those guys are still active today. I didn't mention them because I mentioned the current roster and it would've been redundant.

But yes, I expect that the next-gen version should be better reviewed. Us on last-gen basically only got the roster update that people hate when it's done on other sports games.

Oh snap I need sting
This was the #1 reason I pre-ordered the game. I wanted a legit Sting. I was a huge mark as a kid (even going as Sting one Halloween).

I think the old-school sting looks good, but the Crow Sting looks weird. I'm comparing him to the very nice CAW that I downloaded in WWE2k14. The movesets are spot on, but they were also in the CAW. My favorite addition to 2k15 is the Wyatt Family entrance. It's a thing of beauty and something that isn't in 2k14. I haven't really seen all of the entrances from all of the new superstars, but I was amazed at how good the Wyatt entrance was on the 360. Anyone that was already in 2k14 was barely touched, though.

As I told Tony Jabroni, I know it sounds like I'm really knocking the game, but I'm not. I honestly think 5.9 is way too low of a rating. I just think it's not worth buying if you already own 2k14. But if you don't, it's still a very fun wrestling game and you won't regret the purchase.

If you just want Sting, you can pre-order though most retailers. Best Buy, Gamestop, Amazon, etc. I'd recommend the Digital Deluxe pack if you plan on buying the season pass to save $$$. It's $20 more, but the Season Pass will be $25.

What is season pass?
It includes all DLC that will be available for the game, so you don't have to pay for each individually. There is currently plans for 3 DLCs for different storylines for $10 each. Or you can get the Season Pass for $25. Or in this case, you get the Digital Deluxe (which is download only, not a physical copy) and you only pay $20 extra. The DLCs will also include more wrestlers to add to the roster.

Wyatts entrance is great.

I also went as Sting for Halloween one year..and The Rock, Hurricane, The Dudleys (my buddy and I put some guy through a card table at a party), Flair..
