Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (6 Viewers)

I've got DA3 all queued up but probably can't put any time into it until this weekend.

:kicksrock:

Oh, and killing Uruks is extremely addictive. I was awake at 1:00 not attempting to accomplish a particular task or mission. Just slaying every Uruk outside the Black Gates.

Bought Divinity Original Sin last week, been playing it non-stop since.

Reminds me a lot of the Neverwinter Nights series, fantastic true rpg.
Be prepared to get your butt handed to you. Combat is tough. For example yesterday I ran into some zombies and zombie mages and got completely wiped. Killed zero of them. Came in from another direction that had a choke point, had some better preparation and kicked ###. Tactics matter - a lot.

The only thing I don't like so far is the crafting system as I seem to collect a zillion different things and have no use (yet) for 95% of it.
What Sand said. I reached a point where I just wasn't competitive with the encounters anymore, and I think it's because a) I didn't finish all the early quests and b) didn't do any of the crafting, which is where you get the super stuff.

Minor, helpful spoiler:

Go to the tavern right away and pick up your other teammates. One of them has the ability to solve a very early quest but if you wait you'll miss out on it.

Which early mission? I picked up guys right away but don't remember solving anything big early.

I'm still meandering my way through Last of Us... just got out of Pittsburgh finally (I've only been putting in an hour or so every other week). It's a great story with very nice graphics and solid controls and I will see this one to the end. I do, however, get bored by the repetitive nature of the map clearing and subsequent looting. I have complained about this in other games too (Tomb Raider, Uncharted 3, etc.).

Maybe it's just me or maybe it's because I'm a bit older now with less time on my hands. When I sit down to play these days I really want to be engaged and drawn in. Doing the same thing over and over is dull to me. (My apologies to you guys that like to grind.) I really dug Heavy Rain... which focused strongly on story and little on button mashing. Unfortunately, that game didn't sell that well. Maybe it was ahead of it's time. Or, like I said, maybe it's just me.

Update: This game got MUCH better after leaving Pittsburgh. The pace and story really picked up, thankfully. I just got to Winter and am very interested to see how this all winds up.
Winter is the best chapter IMO
I played for a bit last night and wound up getting stuck on the boss battle in the burning restaurant. I think I need only one more stab to get him, but this might take me some time. The Winter chapter definitely took a turn for the macabre even for this game.

In line picking up my preorder of DA:I right now, extremely excited. Ready to get lost in a game in a way I haven't experienced since Skyrim released. I'm geeking out!

My preorder from MS was supposed to arrive today but apparently won't get here until the end of the week, which I'm less than thrilled about. But apparently I need to spend some time with the dragon age keep website to input my character choices from the last couple games anyway since I'm switching platforms.

The wifey bought DA on Steam and was able to play it starting at 10PM last night. I don't remember her coming to bed (although she said she did) and she was playing it again when I woke up to go to work. I'm *pretty* sure she took care of my kid today but I could come home to a starving 3 year old!

I've put off buying a PS4 until now, but DA is the game that will force me to buy one. I'm hoping to wait a few months until they iron out the bugs. I'd love to wait until there's an "ultimate" version with all the DLC, but I don't think that will be possible.

I'm envious of your wife! I'm sitting here watching my PS4 install an update before I can play...and by play I mean spend an hour in character creation first.

The burning boat at the dock. The mage can cast "Rain" or whatever on it. Very minor quest, but if you don't solve it right away, the ship, predictably, burns to the waterline.

May be another way to solve it, but I couldn't come up with it.

I had to order it through Origin because I never saw it on Steam. :hot:

If you can wait a few more weeks, they're releasing a bundle with The Last of Us Remastered and GTA5 for $399. Those are arguably the two best games available for the system right now (a little sad to say but still).

Whoa. :blackdot:

Never got into the old versions. Hated the interface.
I am not a big fan of controlling a party but I am a content whore and this sounds too big and varied to pass up.
I prettymujch set them to do their own thing - I found that way more fun for this type of game.
What about the tactical game mode where you pause to organize the party? Did that exist in previous games? I only played DA Origins but I don't remember that mode....

Awesome deal, but I'm still disappointed that the best two games available are games that I can already get on last gen.

I caved and downloaded it last night. Only played a few minutes but one improvement I already like:

When you make your dialogue choice on the radial menu, your guy/gal actually talks/responds.

Did the Mass Effect games do this too? I don't recall. Skyrim definitely didn't have this.

Nah, that wasn't in the old games - at least not on console (iirc, it did have a pause / orders feature, but it was more like Mass Effects).

This one seems to have an optional overhead camera for battles, almost like a Baldur's Gate type thing.

Played about an hour last night - will definitely be sinking many hours into this one.

I know this is a dumb question that nobody can really answer. Im not really an RPG guy but I loved Skyrim. Is DA:I a game I would like? I never played Fallout or Mass Effect and never really had any desire to do so but Skyrim was a blast

I would recommend to just watch some game play. It is better than any of us trying to gauge what you might like. Just go on twitch, there is always a game running and you can get a really good feel for the game in a short amount of time.

It depends. What about Skyrim did you like? And what kept you from trying Fallout / Mass Effect? Because DA is right in that wheelhouse.

Skyrim was true open world - you could do whatever you wanted. Just walking across the map was tons of fun. And while there are quests, you kind of make up your own story, and you can completely customize your character.

DA is more of a story-based game. It has a little open world to it, but nothing like the Skyrim sandbox (to be fair, the only games that rival Skyrim in this regard are Bethesda's other offerings, and perhaps the last GTA got there as well). The combat is different as well - it's far more prevalent in DA, and you have special attacks mapped to certain buttons that have cooldowns, etc (similar to Diablo, although the game itself is not like Diablo). You can customize your character, but not to the extent of Skyrim - here, you're generally picking skills/attacks from different combat trees.

DA is also third person, where Skyrim you had a choice of first or third (and first was much better in that game).

Yeah mass effect had that mechanism and DA2 did as well. It's a huge interface improvement on the tradional RPG, I think.

one of the reviews I read said this game was bigger in area than Skyrim's world. I don't know if it is true but every review mentions the game being massive if you want to explore off story line.

In Origins the overhead mode was only available on PC. Played most of the difficult battles in the mode, don't see how you could play console without it. Don't remember on number 2, but it wasn't quite a strategic on the battles, so they may not have had it. they made a big deal on number 3 that the overhead command mode was available both on PC and console for this one.

I consider Skyrim the best RPG I have ever played and DA Origins a close second. So if you loved Skyrim...I have little doubt you will not be immersed in Dragon Age 3.

The one thing Dragon Age does so well is voice acting and really interesting back story's, conversations and quests with your party members. It really has amazing cinematic and conversational elements.

I can't wait till Christmas already.....the wait it torture....feel like a little kid with the anticipation.

great thing about a separate dragon age thread is that anyone who cant play right when it comes out can check out the thread later and have all the discussion there as opposed to having to pick apart this one. That's whats great about the Fallout thread. Next time I decide to fire up that game again, I can find all the discussion about it in one place. DA:I should have way more than enough discussion to warrant its own thread.

I would love a Dragon Age thread if only because I came today to search for it and every uses a different abbreviation so I ended up reading a bunch of other posts too trying to skim to the DA stuff.

I bought it and returned it same day for the PC. The movement controls sucked. On a consol it would be different I'm sure. It looked like it has some really cool looking rpg and political aspects.

I picked up my copy of WWE 2k15 for the PS4 last night and sank about 4 solid hours in it.

As a background, I had not played a wrestling game since the WWF wrestling game on the Dreamcast 15 years ago, so I didn't have any recent preconceptions on what the game should be (some of this stuff might sound obvious to recent wrestling gamers). But overall, it seems like a lot of fun so far. The create-a-wrestler feature is pretty deep with a bazillion options (I spent an hour creating my first character, but haven't tried the facial importation yet). Tied to CAW is the career mode which they throw you into matches right away. I'm not sure if I just suck or your wrestler is so overmatched at the beginning, but I lost my first 15 matches/practice sessions at least. After a couple hours though I started getting the hang of it and winning some matches.

I had a chance to only dabble in a few non-Career mode singles matches. It looks like about half the roster is available to use at the beginning. Fortunately, the AI is much easier to play against when using one of the real wrestlers (the CAW Career Mode wrestlers start with a rating of 55/100 whereas the real wrestlers range from 80-95).

The gameplay itself is fun and it's really cool to see the crowd get more into a match the longer and more exciting it becomes. It definitely feels more slower paced than other fighting games I've played, but that's sort of nice as it allows for easier reversals/defensive moves. The graphics look really solid, but some wrestlers look better than others (presumable because the newer guys were available for updated motion capturing vs. the previous versions).

Some negatives that I've come across... I couldn't find any real tutorial for the controls. There are pop-ups that occur in some of your early matches that help, but otherwise it's a lot of trial and error and going back to the instructional manual (the first time I've looked at one of those in 5 years at least). The loading times between menu options (particularly in CAW) can be a bit long and clunky at times. The commentary gets repetitive after just a couple hours. This might be the most glaring problem I've noticed.

It could be bigger overall, but Skyrim was one giant area that you could go anywhere, anytime, and do whatever you wanted. For example, in Skyrim, you could sink hours and hours into just collecting soul gems and enchanting things, and really enjoy it. I don't think you can do quite that level of "off the beaten path" with this game. I don't know that for certain, because I'm not that far into it. But I do know you couldn't at all in the first two, and while this one seems more freeform, it's still not giving me quite that massive "anything is possible" feeling of Skyrim. Again, I'm not that far into it because I've started over a few times (I played the first few missions with multiple characters)

But it does seem gigantic, and far more open than the last two. Been fun so far.

I'll post all other DA stuff in that thread. Just wanted to respond to your comment.

I've heard Target (I think, could be Walmart) is going to sell this bundle plus two games of your choice for $450.
