Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (3 Viewers)

I do, and thanks for your concern. The vulgar nature of the vocal people in so many MP games is not the only issue I have with them. They are mind-numbingly repetitive and, despite the best attempts to create equitable matches, the skill level between players is typically grossly disparate. Thus they require a significant time investment in something repetitive (and with no  real goal) to allow you to do much more than insta-die/respawn/rinse/repeat.

So my question still stands, what am I missing?
But you're missing out on things like what happened yesterday where the first rocket league game I joined had my teammate smashing into me for the lulz.  After sitting through that one, I got stuck twice out of five matches with people purposefully scoring on their own goal to "de-rank" (their word, not mine) themselves so they could play against lower competition.  It was so awesome that I moved over to Rainbow 6 where my entire team was team killed at the start of the round, again for the lulz.

After that I went back to Dark Souls 3.

I enjoy the aspect of randomness from opponents compared to learning the ai movements. I've been pushing the game  pubg on here. It seems every match is completely different. There is no chat box which cuts out the trash talking and you can set audio to team only to not hear the five year olds spamming the mic. To each their own, I wasn't trying to judge anyone was just curious.

As I posted earlier today, I set up my computer yesterday.  I've been primarily a single player console (PS4) gamer the past 2 years.  After I set it all up, I played L4D2 for the first time in a couple years.  I loved that game. Still do with the right people.  First game I went into, some idiot was team killing.  Logged right out of it. Second game 2 kids were swearing and were very racist.  Don't need to hear what some pimply faced kid thinks about race relations. Logged out. Third game had 2 guys team killing.  Logged out. Fourth game was actually good.  Thankfully. If not, that computer may have gone back into storage.

Some of the best times I had online gaming were with Battlefield 2 on the PS3. A bunch of us here on FBG would squad up and have a great time. But as time went on the game became imbalanced as most online FPS do. But it was indeed fun stuff.

Most of us simply do not have the time required to invest into a online FPS with no story nor goal other than to win that match.

I like online gaming.....with like minded people who also are not stick jockeys who simply play 8-10 hours a day. I have been part of sim minded Madden leagues and MLB The Show...but even then you will run into cheesers and win at all cost mentalities.

I am an old school solitaire video gamer. Sports games are my big thing (The Show in particular as well as Madden) and running long term offline franchises are a passion of mine. I have a great time playing with current and classic rosters and just delving into my inner sports geekness.

I love great action story based RPG's like Horizon as well as solo FPS (Wolfenstein and Far Cry series as an example). I love story based games like The Dead Space series or Mass Effect trilogy. Also The Uncharted games and The Last Of Us.....just amazing games that can be enjoyed whenever I want without any network server issues, loud and obnoxious punks or any time investment needed to make sure I keep up with the leader boards.

If you love online FPS...awesome. I have dabbled in them and they can be fun.

As far as competition in video games? Not where I look for competition. I look for that on a baseball field (this old man is still playing). Video games are pure relaxation and escaping reality for a few hours at a time.

Multiplayer is still my preferred mode of gaming if I can group with friends.  Otherwise, I'm not much interested.  PUBG has piqued my interest, so I'm going to give it a go even with randoms.

There are a few people trying to "de-rank" in RL because the new season starts 5 hours from now and they aren't doing a rank reset this time for the new season.  It's stupid, but you shouldn't see that after tonight.  There are literally 197,409 players playing right now, so you can find a plenty without that sort of thing happening.  I play both single and multiplayer games, and I'm not arguing either side.  Both have their strengths and weaknesses.

For pubg you can try and find the pubg discord channel where u can find like minded people to group with. Also there is a solo queue. I can add you to steam as well to show you the ropes/play with my squad.

Depends what game.  L4D2?  Absolutely.  You and I, along with some others had some great times.  Would do it again in a heartbeat.

ETA: that video card you were so nice enough to send me years ago is still holding up well.

I'll hit you up when I get to that point if you stop pissing everybody off in here.

:)

I may have an upgrade for you in the near future.

Rocket League definitely interests me because I know I can rally a couple guys I co-op game with and some people from here to play a closed match. But playing matched games with randoms like you described sounds awful.

For those of you playing Dangerous Elite, how important is the sound in the game? I like to listen to podcasts while I play a game but obviously some games, you need to hear dialogue, alarms, whatever.

Also, I might get this get game today any tips, tricks or general info that you would be willing to share?

Jeez I asked a question that seems to have hit a nerve. I'll see myself out.
I honestly didn't mean my posts to set something off, and I don't think you did either.

I am legitimately curious why anyone would play in a MP environment. I love co-op gaming because I have solid friends to at with but random MP seems like a lesson in constant frustration.

I am absolutely loving Elite Dangerous. Grouping up with other friends and playing together has us all having a blast.

I am really focused on saving up for a Diamondback Scout ship. I am leaning towards the smuggler/exploration/mining side of things and some Space Uber services as well to earn a good living in the galaxy. This ship is highly versatile. Also did some bounty hunting over the weekend in the community event in the system of Ripikla (sp?) to earn some serious credits.

This game does have a steep learning curve (as I mentioned) but once it clicks.....seriously this is a game I will get lost in for a long long time. It is World Of Warcraft but in space and you are a space pilot.

Flying is a blast now that I have a full grasp of my ship, it's functions, transferring power, super-cruise speed and exiting that properly, reading the galaxy and system maps, and just figuring out stuff.

There is no hand holding in this game. Plenty of great videos on Youtube to assist though. The game is well worth the investment of time to get better at flying and understanding the economy, politics and social classes throughout the entire galaxy. It is a living and breathing type of game and a real time news station you can read in the Starport Services section when you dock in a space port or on a planet based space port.

Just awesome stuff. I am really having fun here.
What type of controller do you use? And are you PC, XBone, or PS4.

I definitely get the aspect of solo gaming turning into an exercise of "learning the AI" which can get repetitive in its own way. But most good ones always level enemies and throw new ones at you as the story progresses, throw in boss fights and good story telling and it typically more than makes up for most of the short comings.

My biggest complaint with solo gaming is the sheer scope of some of these games. They can be massive and when you are a compulsive leveler and loot-hoor like I am they can turn into a real slog. Of course you can take a break and play something else but you risk losing your muscle memory of the controls and timing/twitch response.

If you party up with 2 others, you won't have to deal with randoms (or play doubles if it's just you and one other).  You can turn off chat to limit interaction with randoms.  Then, unless they physically try to ruin the game (which is very rare - although it happens more in lower ranks), you won't have those problems.  I have the game on Xbox and PC.  If you get it, hit me up.  I'm always happy to help out.

It's not vital. But it sounds great. YOu can play with other music or podcasts or whatever.

But I would first get 100% comfortable with everything going on and also operation of your various ships (that's right as you play you will build a small little fleet for yourself to use for mission types....but that is way down the line as you need to earn a living to get that far LOL).

the reddit discord for PUBG has over 10,000 ppl on it most of the time..Its super easy to find non-random people to play squads/duos with.

Do you and your squad play daily?

Are you an astronaut with intricate knowledge of how to operate the space shuttle?  If not, this game might be difficult for you.

I kid, but expect a huge difficulty curve in just learning how to fly your ship.

Yes we do. Lately we have been playing on the Asia server..It's weird that I get better fps while living in Texas on the Asia server.

I did eat a cookie one time that took me to outer space. Does that count?  :D

I'm looking forward to using my brain. It's been slow at work so I figure this will give me something to research during my days.

Perfect. Thank you for clearing up the audio aspect.

That seems like good advice. I'm sure I will have a zillion questions by this time tomorrow for you. I will try to look things up first though.

I felt bad playing with Cockroach at Rocket League.  He's on a different level than I am so I was just holding him back.  He was great about it though and would stop playing ranked to come slum it with me in newbville.

Anyone else playing the Necromancer on Diablo 3?  My wife and I have been playing it for the past few nights and it's a nice change up.  I actually bought Shadows of Mordor for $4 the other day but have not played it yet because of D3.

I went to a Resource Extraction Site and did some strategic bounty hunting in my Sidewinder to build a bankroll.  By "strategic bounty hunting," I mean waiting for the feds to start pounding on some pirate, and then joining in with my feather-duster pulse lasers and collecting five- and six-figure bounties for doing essentially nothing.  With 3M credits banked, I was able to buy a nicely-equipped Type 6 and I now want to start doing some trading.  But first I need to research some good routes.  This game really forces you to do some serious homework.  I could see just exploring at some point, but I know enough to realize that I would get myself stranded hundreds of light-years away from the nearest station if I tried to do that now.

On a side note, I am happy to report that I can actually dock my ship consistently now, usually within two minutes of requesting docking rights.  Having typed that out, it sounds kind of like a euphemism, but I'm genuinely happy to have figured out docking.

Probably the main reason I don't play online is I don't play shooters. No need to be online for Horizon: Zero Dawn or Uncharted or XCOM 2 or WItcher 3 or ......

Have you guys played Pro Evolution Soccer 2017 on PS4 (or Xbox)?  What are your thoughts?  Does it have a franchise league component?

I am sure it's been talked about, but this thread is 633 pages - what are your thoughts on XCom2 for PS4?

Getting a bit bored with GoW and looking for a new multiplayer shooter on Xbone.  Battlefield 1 is the way to go right?  Looks well reviewed, but curious if there is anything else out recently to check out.

Pubg is the only game I've ever played that literally makes my heart race. Just finished a game where my squad died and I finished off the 8 players remaining players. It was intense.

Had a lot of fun with Diable 3.  Me and my two boys played co-op.  The older played the Necromancer and loved it.  I just played the mage and button spammed the hell out of the spells.  Good fun.

Unfortunately we bought it for the Xbox360 which died before we could get full run out of the game and I'm not interested in starting over.

The wife passed out at 7PM last night so I took the night off from D3 and started playing Shadows of Mordor.  It's a lot of fun so far but I'm afraid it's going to get repetitive.  I hope not, but I think it might.

It does get repetitive, but you pick up fun new skills to play with. I thought it was fun enough to platinum trophy it, but haven't played at all since.  I'm sure you'll get your $4.99's worth out of it though.

Meh, I suck now.  Rocket League is like a muscle, if you don't work it out, you get weak... and then you try to jump back in where you were before and get hurt. Then you sit there with your wounded pride and think of how it USED to be.

Are you sure it was the Necromancer?  The Necromancer is the brand new character they just released on June 27th and I don't think it was available in the 360.  I think it was only for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC

You're right, it wasn't the necromancer.  It must have been the witch doctor.  I probably should have put more thought into that response.

It's a game where when the gameplay starts getting repetitive, it's still a blast so you just have to add in a little of your own entertainment. You will eventually gain the ability to make orcs fight for you and when that happens you can create your own fun. I'd build up certain cool looking orcs by letting them kill me (otherwise you get good enough at dodging that you basically never die), which elevated them and ranked them up, and then pit them against each other later for kicks.

The Nemesis system is still one of the only truly "next gen" feeling things I've seen so far and its 2017. That's nuts. Innovations are few and far between right now. I can't beleive no ones stolen the idea for other series/genres.

It sounds like the most interesting part of this story got left out.
She spent all day at the lake paddleboarding my kid around in 100 degree weather (all while I was at work).  I got home, had to cook my own dinner, and she passed out while I was eating.

The worst part is her dad (who is a butthole) showed up (he's staying with us until Sunday) after she fell asleep so I had to deal with that while trying to play.

That sounds awesome.  I actually looked up some info for part 2 coming out and it looks like there will be an army building element to it.  Sounds great.

Spot on post. Agree 100%. This along with Horizon Zero Dawn are the very best this gen has produced (Still have not played Witcher 3 but will eventually).

I poured a good 70 hours into Mordor because of this fun I could create and avenging friends deaths too!!!

I am looking forward to the new one as well. I am sure it will improve upon the first.

I feel like I cant gush enough about Elder Scrolls Online.  The more I play it, the more I realize it's just better than Skyrim in many ways, and that it's much closer to that game than it is to other MMORPGs.  You can casually play 95% of the game without ever interacting with another player if you choose.  You will never find the lame but typical "Collect 5 bear ###" MMO style quests either.  Just about every quest has its own plot line complete with voice acting.   Like Skyrim, there's a main plot, subplots for the various guilds, and they also added plots for the three alliances in the game.  There are DLCs for both Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood, and I feel both have the best implementation of any Elder Scrolls game to date.  The crafting system is also way deeper than Skyrim was.  There's just so much to do.

I'd also guess it has at least five times the land mass that Skyrim had, including the entire Eastern half of Skyrim, all of Morrowind, and Cyrodiil which brings you back to the times of playing those older ES titles and visiting those locations.

Oh, and the game is also really pretty.  Here's my goggle-wearing Argonian Templar at a place that you might recognize from Skyrim, the Riften outdoor market.

Is this on the Xbone?

@Scoresman Does it have the same open world do-whatever structure as a regular Elder Scrolls game? The same open levelling system where you can combine any skills you want? Or is it a more class-based MMO structure to give players certain combat roles?
