Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (4 Viewers)

The new Assassins Creed game (Origins) seems to be getting pretty good reviews. Metacritic has critic review score of 81 and a user of 7.9. For whatever those are worth.

I know the AC games get a lot of hate but I don’t mind them. Seems like a few bugs are a concern (as usual) so it might be a good candidate for a “Wait to Buy” game. Generally, it seems the franchise is taking steps forward instead of backwards with this instalment.
Really looking forward to this. I know people are fatigued with the franchise but most of the recent entries have been pretty good. Syndicate and Black Flag were outstanding.

Anyone else looking forward to the new COD on Friday?  I will be playing, but my expectations are limited.  I feel I've been getting diminishing returns on my video game time lately.  The combination of my declining hand eye coordination, along with limited enjoyment of playing solo has limited my enjoyment.
I may pick it up on the cheap if the campaign is decent but thats about it for me anymore

Not really to be honest. I’m too slow and half the time my eyes don’t even notice the person that is shooting me. If they had better support classes where I could help my team in some way other then trying to get kills, I’d be a lot more into it.

The only thing that bothers me about getting it close to release is that they always have bugs/adjustments that need to be improved.

In the review I watched they said that you upgrade the blades and their damage. Which leads to weird times when you sneak through a mission then go in for a stealth kill on a target and it won’t actually kill the target. Thus, turning the whole thing into a poop show. I’d be very angry if this happened to me. So I might wait until I hear about them fixing/balancing this.

I purchased this and played through quite a bit of it this weekend.  In my experience, there were still some glitches you could laugh off...a horse and cart was pushing along another sideways horse and a person who was supposed to be sitting.  And my horse had the neck forward into a wall, waiting for me.  The worst bug happened when, somehow, I morphed from being outside and into an inside room.  I could see outside, but had no way to get out of that room except to start over.

The game size is about 34GB.  The complexity is going to have bugs and glitches.  Overall, they have done a very good job with dialog (and accent), visually stunning, and the fighting requires some skill as you just cannot "attack" your way out of a group of enemies, unless your skill is much greater than theirs.

I would recommend this version of AC, which I wouldn't do for Syndicate or Unity.

I don't think that gets patched, that's much more of a design choice then a bug.  They are really trying to make it more RPGish where there are areas that you are just not ready to go into.  Enemies are tougher, and you can't just one hit assassinate with the basic blade.  Combat looks much more detailed and tougher in this game which I think will be a good thing.  The last games were getting way to simple to just counter your way through almost any battle.

I'm really excited for this one, and I just hope it's fun, that's what a lot of the AC's lost when they tried to have these serious characters like in III and Unity.

After Andromeda, I’m not sure I’ll be a day 1 purchaser of any game again for a long time.

Is this the WWII one?

That’s a good point. I think they still might “balance” a few things are things get tested through the masses though. Also, by the sounds of it the camera is a bit too tight for improved battles, according to the review I watched. I don’t know how easy of a fix this is though.

Correct.  I am looking forward to not having the jump and jet packs as part of the battle.  I'm hoping it is a little more strategic than gimicky, but I'm probably hoping for too much.
This is the first one I am considering in a while (last one I played was BLOPS 2) I completely lost interest in COD when they decided to go future weapons, running on walls, jet packs, etc. in the last 3 or 4 installments. Been so long since I've played one though that I am sure that the teenagers would destroy me.

Loved the first 3 games (even with the flaws of the original) but I couldn't make it through Revelations. The story was just too convoluted and it just just more of the same. I think I bought another one (the one where you're a native American) but never played it.

I know some of the most recent games have gotten really good reviews but I think I'm just over the franchise.
Assassin's Creed: Black Flag  was one of the best games I've ever played.  Not only was it one of the better AC stories, but it was also one of the best naval combat games ever.  If you haven't played that one and you like AC games even a little bit, you should give it a whirl, especially if you can find it on a sale.  If you were a Sid Meier's Pirates fan, then this game is an absolute must buy.

I'm only in it for the campaign. Multiplayer isn't a factor.

I was looking forward to this, but the initial reviews gave me pause. Because they generally mentioned frustrating combat and sneaking, which would kill it for me. I'll wait for a sale / patch.

Still playing unepic. Best $5 I've spent.

Its criminaly underrated and crazy that I'm the only one here playing.

I'm sure you already know about it but... SKULL AND BONES!

I love me some video games but as I get older with kids it gets so hard to find time for them.  Sucks that when you have time to play them you don't have the money and when you have the money you don't have the time.

When I do find the time I'm either playing Madden or Fallout 4.  There's just something about Fallout that I love so much.  When I have time and need to get away it's the perfect game for me lose myself in.  There are so many other games I'd love to play but I just know I wouldn't play them enough.

Picked up "Don't Starve Together" to play with my wife.  We played two games last night and only made it to day 6.  Anyone have any tips for what I should be focusing on first?

Just finished Saints Row 4 after picking up the Xbox one version on sale a few months ago. It’s not quite as fun or funny as 3, but it lets you run around like Neo in the matrix, which is still pretty cool. 3/5 stars, worth the $5 I paid for it.

Just preordered an Xbox One X...  should be here in a week or so. I’ll tqke my current XB1 and trade it in for a PS4.  Ive got Bloodborne, Last of Us 2, and Nioh on the PS4 list (I know TLOU2 isn’t out yet).

Too busy playing Divinity 2, which is easily the best game I've played for the last 5-7 years.  Better than Skyrim, maybe on par with Fallout 3.  They got about 95% of it dead on right (inventory system sucks, but most suck).

I watched a video for a few minutes and it looked like a Devil May Cry game. I'll have to check it out again.

ETA - I obviously watched the wrong video

I'm enjoying this a lot too. Best tactical RPG / Turn-based game I've ever played. They took everything great about the first one and made it better.

Not remotely the same kind of game. Divinity is a turn-based RPG that's pretty complicated (in a good way). Meaning battles make you think about the tactics / spell combos you'll use, and it doesn't hold your hand.

Yeah, I obviously looked at the wrong game or something.  Divinity 2 looks pretty amazing. I'm not sure I have the patience for turn base combat and these type of games where there are so many options and ramifications for your decisions are difficult for me because  I struggle with wanting the best option and I struggle with said ramifications.

The co-op is very intriguing though. Can you guys comment that? Can I play the full game with my buddy? Often times these RPGs say they have co-op but it's really only the one player's game advancing and the other guy is just a tagalong, similarly to the fable games with co-op.

There are some older games in the "Divinity" series that were kind of Diablo clones. That might be what you saw. The two that broke away to turn based were the two "Original Sin" games.

I've never played co-op, but I hear it's excellent.

This really is a game that can drive you nuts regarding the tactics and options. There are just soooo many, especially in #2. It's also a little hard in that it really doesn't hold your hand or care if you botch/cut off a quest. I never officially finished the first one because when I got to the end area, I lacked an item, and the game basically said "well, go back in the world and find it". At that point, I had about 60 hours in, and saw enough (I didn't feel compelled to "finish"). But the combat and options are right in my wheelhouse.

I enjoyed the first one but my lack of understanding of how to chain spells together to increase their effect made the game too difficult for me (maybe I should have moved it down to kiddie difficulty but then I figure what is the point?)

I have played the co-op version of this with my buddy...it is excellent.  You control your own player, and other person does the same.  When they talk to someone, you can listen in on their discussion by clicking on an ear icon.

A good example of the co-op can be watched here.

It's more like "Holy #### that got me wiped pretty quick."   :D   If it makes any difference even if you start off with characters that aren't optimal (I did) after a bit you get an opportunity to fix all that and optimize freely.  It's pretty cool.

Then again there are some spectacular fights that are setup.  One, in particular, in the early game was just flat out epic.  This is the first game in a long while that I'll even think about buying DLC (and am disappointed I haven't seen any yet!)

Anyone playing the new Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus game?

I had a ton of fun with New Order and Old Blood.
I began to and it seems like more of the same kind of game which is a good thing.  I'm waiting for them to patch the game though, because there are issues with freezing.  PC version.

Is the newest one on Xbox? Getting conflicting info via google.

Not announced for Xbox yet. I'm playing on my PC with a controller, piped to my TV, so it may as well be on my Xbox. They built excellent controller support in from day one, so I suspect it'll come to xbox eventually.

Is it a system hog in terms of specs?

It wasn't so much chaining spells together, as more using the elements and your terrain to your advantage. Rain on fire = steam. Then add electricity and get a cloud that shocks and stuns everyone inside of it.

When is Last of Us 2 suppose to be released?  Last I heard was 2019.  The first game may be one of the greatest games I've ever played.

Same here on the last one.  I even looked up the list of where all those items (there were about a dozen, as I recall) were, and thought "No way I'm going through that again" even though most of the bad guys had (hopefully) been finished.  I couldn't remember which ones I had picked up and which ones I'd missed.

That's said, this is one of my all-time favorite games.

not overly so. My PC is three years old, and hardly a gaming monster. The specs are listed on its steam page, and seem reasonable.
Mine's a decent rig, and had no problem until a huge combat broke out the other day.  Fire animation going all over the place (that couldn't be put out) and the system slowed to a crawl.  Took 3 hours to finish that one fight, even after rebooting and turning the graphics down.

Still loved it.

When a game is to difficult for NewlyRetired, I know I'm out!

I am not a good game player by any stretch of the imagination.  I tend to get through games by slogging but even saying that for some reason the game mechanics in Divinity never clicked for me.

I think it might have something to do with managing a group.  I do MUCH better when managing a single character (Skyrim, Dark Souls, Fallout, Diablo, POE etc) than managing a group of characters like in Divinity or Dragon Age.
