Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (7 Viewers)

I know there aren't a lot of COD guys in this thread, but do any of you play zombies in COD much? Anyone any good at it?

My friends and I play some, and frankly, we apparently suck. I see tons of stuff around the internet about how the casual Easter egg on Final Reich is so easy and guys easily getting to waves 35+. Well, my friends and I still haven't completed even the easy Easter egg and struggle to make it to wave 20+. I feel like we're doing something fundamentally wrong.

Are there certain patterns or orders to opening stuff or completing the steps that we are screwing up? (I've seen some comments about not buying perks or pack-a-punching too early, but what rounds should those things be done?) Are we just using wrong weapons, wrong loadouts? So frustrating to play for an hour and the furthest we've made it is the blimp step.
I'm one of the few COD guys, but Zombies holds no appeal to me.  I've at least dipped my toes in the water in it in the last several games just to see what it was about, but the overall style of play just isn't interesting to me.  Haven't even opened it up on WW2.

Yeah, I liked the older zombies where it was fairly clear what you needed to do and where you could setup as a team and fight the zombies.

Now, it's impossible to truly figure out what you're supposed to do unless you look it up on the internet or YouTube. I'm 100% positive that the guys that "figure it out" either look at the source code or just straight up get the info from the developers. There is zero chance some of that would be discovered even by accident.

And they eliminated any ability to fortify and defend as a team. Now you have to run around in patterns and line up trains of zombies. So dumb.

I played one game of Zombies so I have no insight to pass along. Is there any tutorial or anything online? There used to be tons of tips and tricks videos for zombies on YouTube. **I usually come to this thread to ask about stuff before I start watching videos or Googling stuff too. So please don’t take this as a “GaWd!! JuSt gOoGLe it!!” type of reply.

There are plenty of articles and videos showing how to complete challenges, but not a ton of info on combinations for loadouts, weapons, when to unlock/upgrade stuff, etc. And virtually nothing at all on working in teams. It's almost all focused on straight up just completing tasks and seems almost geared towards guys who are good enough to solo or duo it.

And TONS of showoff videos of people making it to wave 100, or getting to wave 40 without firing a bullet, or unlocking any doors, or other stupid stuff like that.

It seems like the only advice on basic strategy is "lol, play mor and get gud"

Ya, that's what my kids and their friends would do.  Or they wipe out all the zombies except one, then complete or look for whatever they had to do next.  if I want to play a puzzle game, I'll play a puzzle game.  If I want to shoot some people up, I'm going to play a shooter.  I don't like mixing them up.  And yes, my favorite plates are those sectioned plastic picnic plates so my food doesn't touch other food.

Played several games of Fortnite last night.  I think I played about 8 games and managed two kilsl  Both were short range with shotguns.  For those who said the controls and gameplays are great, I definitely disagree.  Though I will say a lot of the frustration is going from what I usually do in FPS and playing third person.  I do not like the controls, and I'm not used to it.  I had one exchange where I came upon two people fighting each other.  I pulled out my sniper and tried to pick them off.  I couldn't hit anything.  Once one of them killed the other, he fortified himself.  I shot the walls down, but couldn't hit him.  He built his wall again, and as I was in the process of shooting it down again (feeling a bit like the big bad wolf) he jumped out the side and insta killed me.   It's fine for taking a break when I get frustrated with something else, but it does not have me hooked.

My best game placement was when I landed on the board in an area of the map not many others landed in, and happened to be the center of the storm so I just camped in a house until near the end.  It was down to the top 20 or so, and then someone stumbled upon me and killed me even though I was camping, shotgun pointed at the door waiting for someone to come in.

I wanted to like Fortnite, but it's not really my style either. It seems like the optimal strategy to win is to mostly avoid anyone else until the very end and then build like crazy to fortify yourself. That's just boring to me. Maybe playing duos or squads would be closer to my style, but there are so many other games out there and my gaming time so limited that I'm not sure I'll ever put the effort in to figure it out.

Agreed on all points.

The only reason I try it at all is that it would be fun to squad up with my boys and play as a team.  Then one of them will walk in and trash me for my play, and I think "forget this garbage, I'll just stick to schooling them in NBA2k."

I’m a little late to this, but the star fighter assault mode in SW Battlefront 2 is awesome. It reminds me a lot of Crimson Skies, which I played an absurd amount of on the original Xbox.

Wait, there's a DLC for a game that isn't even released yet??
Where have you been for the last decade? Jkjk

If you watch the video I think it’s easy to see that it’s not the part of the base game. It’s not a butchering of the main game like it might seem.

It doesn’t help depending on the time of day you are playing against 12-16yo kids who spend the majority of their day playing this. The other day I was on a squad with my cousins kid who’s 13, he had like 11 kills one game and was doing it in style.  Definante learning curve to the shooting in this game, and of course finding the gold guns helps.

My highlight was picking up some gun, I didn't know what it was and my kid say "oh wow, that's the best gun in the game!" I saunter out in the open walking chest puffed out like BMOC, turn a corner and get shottied to the face,

This reminds me when I played against @ren hoek in the FBGs 1v1 tourney years ago. I was about 28 and Ren was likely at least 10 years younger. He demolished me without even remotely trying and said so. I was so angry with him.

Im a lifelong gamer and while I wasn’t the best GoW player, (I was dominant in GoW2  :bowtie: ,) the disparity in reflexes the younger kids have is truly astounding.

Did you like the Souls games?

I know people who have tried these games and bailed because it's really easy to die. The game clicks when you realize that's a part of it, and learning how to dodge / counter / fight is key, as is learning each area. All of a sudden, levels that took an hour take five minutes.

Nintendo announced a ton of games yesterday. Mario Tennis Aces looks amazing. I've never played Super Smash Bros. but will probably give the Switch version a shot. I am also pumped that The Fractured But Whole will be ported over. Seems perfect for handheld.

WOW, really surprised Nintendo is letting south park on the switch. They seem to try and keep things PGish, and south park is no where near that. Perfect platform for it though. Modern game that isn't completely graphics intensive.

Man I really don't remember that.  If I said something to that effect I apologize for bein a total ####head.  I'm 33 now so I was probably around 22-25 then.  I honestly don't remember that at all.  I do remember drafting tdoss's son in one of the Gears drafts.  That team would have been so OP but I think the league collapsed, lol.

For those of us who are no longer Mountain Dew’d up twitchy teenagers, I’ve had a lot of success in Fortnite riding the storm. Land on the outskirts like Junk Junction, Snobby Shires, Flush Factory, etc. I always ride the bus as long as possible because most people are too impatient to wait. Then pick the location way out from there. You can usually get 100 shield, lots of ammo and decent weapons without anyone bothering you.

Then start running and stay near the edge of the storm if you can so you know nobody is on your back.
But how is that any fun?

Looking forward to the Dark Souls remaster coming out in May.  Can't wait to jump back into that one.

Lol, thanks but not necessary. You served up some humble pie that I deserved.

Yeah, it did and I remember our other leaguemates having a meltdown over tdoss's son.

You know, when I (MrP) wasn't having one myself. Disclaimer: I would have been about 20 years old when that league happened. I was an angry tweener then.

2 weeks till MLB The Show 18 drops.

I pick it up on the 23rd......then have a 7 day cruise. LOL. But....loving what I am seeing in the developer twitch streams. Big changes to Road To The Show and how you progress your player. It is all performance based now. No more training points. You have 5 different archetypes to choose from as well. And when you get much older you can change the archetype. Regression begins at age 34. Also the OF fielding camera has been improved.

The game is shaping up to again exceed the previous version (I have been a loyal fan since 2009). Every year this game make subtle yet impactful gameplay improvements. Hands down the best sports franchise on console gaming bar none.
I actually liked from what I saw in the stream with RTTS. I don’t know how much I’ll be playing it though. Do you play any diamond dynasty? That’s where I’ll be doing most of my playing.

Those were the days.  Playing Gears til three in the morning and posting in our little league threads.  How comfy.

Now the franchise is basically over, we've moved on to other stuff and Cliffy B is the laughing stock of game devs.   :kicksrock:

More than 10 years ago. I feel really old.
That was back when I could smoke weed all night, play teh gears and get 2 hours sleep before I went to work. By Friday I would crash hard before repeating the process. I did that for about 2 years or more. Now I routinely fall asleep with the controller in my hands.

Wife's out of town so I was up till 3 buffing out my Diablo 3 character. Big mistake. Our new puppy woke me at 6 with her licking til I took her out to potty. Now I feel like garbage.

Mass Effect: Andromeda, I almost feel like there's way to much going on. The absurd amount of side quests everywhere is crazy. And for the most part, they seem kind of boring. I have mostly gravitated to the main story. I do side missions only when I don't have much time to play. Nothing worse than making progress in a main story arc and not being able to save.

I’d definitely skip everything but the main missions and the squad loyalty missions.

Might not be so terrible if the graphics weren't so bad and childish.  It kind of seems like the grind of a poker tourny without the rush of any potential cash.  But some MP shooters are fun to navigate the map on (Titanfall and Uncharted 4 come to mind).

I do play DD but not nearly as much as Franchise and RTTS.

Thought about Bloodbourne, then changed my mind and figured it'd be the same as when they gave Demons Souls for free on ps3. Played it a few hours, lost my s###, and uninstalled.
