Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (9 Viewers)

Went from a 37" old TV to a 49" 4k BF special and dang, what a difference. I can read the text on the screens, see the bad guys in the weeds. Fallout 4 has become a different game than when I first loaded it. Hard to believe what I was missing.

I figure I have another year or two before I can get there. My 40" Sony is over 10 years old now and starting to show dead pixels. Have to find room in the budget to get a new one but money is hard to come by with 3 kids under 7.

You poor bastards. :)

Just started Kingdoms Hearts 1.5/2.5 remix in anticipation of Kingdom Hearts 3. Havent played since they originally since they came out. Nice update on the original so far.

I don't expect to talk to my wife for a couple weeks after release.  She's so stoked for this one.

Not enough good co-op games out there. Playing Dead Island Riptide with some buddies while one of them is upgrading their rig so it can handle Division.

DI:R is awesome. Sure it's silly and dated but it stays squarely in it's lane (to use the parlance of our time). Generous with XP & loot and slaughtering wave after wave of zombies is just a blast. Driving boats through the swamp always turns into a hilarious disaster. Too much fun.

I feel those Dead Island games got a lot of undeserved hate. I loved them.

They may not have much of a story and are lacking fancy cut scenes and graphics, but when playing with people it's so satisfying to decimate zombies a million times over and get super powerful.

Copacetic.

Been taking little breaks from the Surge.  Great game but it’s really intense and I always have a sense of dread when I’m playing it.  I will say the environments rely a little too heavily on the claustrophobic spaceship trope for my liking, as opposed to being more open.

One other beef I have with the game is how easy it is to get stuck on one weapon-type.  Since your weapon proficiency is tied to the weapon style, it’s tough to start new with another one when your stats are better with the other.  Apparently The Surge 2 will be coming out this year though, which is dope.

I picked up Factorio a couple nights ago.  It’s awesome.  I think I’ve played for about 12 hours already.  “If you have no life or are prepared to not have one for a few weeks, it´s a great game.”

RE2MAKE is out this Friday. Already downloaded it. Played the 1-Shot demo the other day and it was pretty damn awesome. RE7 engine but with an over the shoulder cam like RE4. The police station looks creepy as hell. Can't wait to dive into this one over and over.

I have a pretty solid backlog that I'm still working my way through -- getting ready to move into God of War pretty soon.  But I'm definitely looking forward to seeing user reviews on this one, and I'll certainly pick it up at some point.

I got RDR2 for x-mas so been playing that alot. Love it.

Also bought Fallout 4 on Black Friday.

Kingdom Come sounds pretty interested to me so I'm thinking about getting that, does anyone here have it?

Re2 remake is amazing. Totally reinvents the series. I haven't been this terrified playing a game in a long time.
Saw a screenshot from outside of a gas station on RE2.  Still had the prices from when RE2 was originally released on the sign.  Made me sad.

Crazy they are charging $60 for it.  I think I can wait until prices drop.
Not crazy at all. This is a completely new game with 4 different scenarios to play through. I paid $70 to get the extra costumes but $60 is more than worth it. This is GOTY material right here. Might not get it because it's so early in 2019 but it's definitely my favorite game of the last 5 years easily.

Yeah, I was going to hold off on this one, but after seeing how it's been received, I'm thinking about picking it up at full price and moving it to the front of my queue.  (Also, there is free DLC incoming next month).

Still going strong on Bloodborne. I keep a notepad on my phone for games I want to play so I just start checking them off as I go. Whatever I find cheapest, I tend to play next. Some of these haven’t even released, but it’s just a reminder to keep an eye on them as they pop up.

I can't do scary games lol. Hate that sense of dread while gaming. Like I can't breathe from the suspense. Games are supposed to be fun/relaxing/enjoyable. Scary games aren't for me.

I tried games like PT and Outlast. Deleted them after trying to play a night or two.

This is kind of me too, but I never really found RE games that scary. Silent Hill and Dead Space on the other hand were a chore. They were both really good games, but I hated playing them at the same time.

Agree wholeheartedly. Bioshock was about the scariest thing I ever played. I lasted about 5 minute into Outlast.

Picked up an Oculus Rift this weekend, and I have to say I am impressed.  This thing is dang cool, though I pretty much have to game with a spotter so I am not running into the wall or punching windows and crap.  Now where is my omnidirectional treadmill?

I’m really interested in these. Are there any good games? Are they all in the Minecraft looking stages of graphics? Is there another VR headset coming down the pike soon or will this thing be around for awhile?

I am blown away by the graphics to be honest.  I expected worse.  The games are slowly building, and I am only just getting started.  I am psyched to try Elite Dangerous which has been in my Steam library forever now.

My youngest brother has one. I was at his house last year messing around with it playing some tennis type game. I went for the volley and did a full speed overhand punch into his ceiling fan in his bedroom. I was quite positive I broke my hand. Luckily it was just a lot of bruising but uh... yeah be careful.

Edit: actually he has a Vive. Same thing pretty much though, I think?

Anyone buying into the Anthem hype?  Fightin Cowboy compared it to ME:A combat and that seems... positive.

Got Kingdom Hearts 3 on the way.  Should arrive Tuesday.  Curious to see if the nostalgia and updated graphics can pull me back in so many years after 2 came out...

When I could get it to work, the demo was excellent. Got an invite from a buddy. Flying around feels very good, it's like being Iron Man. It does feel a bit like ME:A, in a good way. The powers and priming/detonating combos are more important than the gunplay but the gunplay feels good.  But I'll be waiting for a few reviews to make sure it works better than the demo. This weekend (I think) is the open demo for everyone, so I'll mess with it some more. I like the loot system so far and it is fun to group up and do missions.

Anthem is definitely not my thing. Never liked the Destiny/ Borderlands sort of MMO but not really type of game. I get the appeal for most people though. Hopefully it does well since Bioware is on it's last legs. If they go under, that's probably it for any chance at a future Mass Effect or Dragon Age game.

But it's not looking good to start. They are speculating based on a released picture that skins are going to be 2000 Sparks. Admittedly that could be anything but basing it on other monetized EA games, people are assuming 1 spark equals 1¢. So $20 for a skin.  And you have a chance to grind for it in the game but idk. Something doesn't feel right about giving people who pay $60 for a game minimal cosmetic options and making them either grind endlessly or pay a price that's 1/3 the cost of the game just to change it. The EA sports games are horrific for that now. Things that used to be standard now cost $5-10.

Just doesn't feel like a good start for Anthem. Who knows maybe they leaked the picture to test the market on whether people will pay that and then come out at release for $10 like they listened to the gamers. They want this thing to keep pouring in the cash every quarter for years though. We'll see.

Anthem is one that looks like it could be great, or terrible.  Definitely not a preorder at this point.

It looks like Serious Sam had a 2017 update for VR.  That could be very very fun.  I will have to install it and give it a ride.

Not at all. Just another Destiny. Not a fan of grinder games. And it's made by EA. Which when considering the genre of game, it means it's going to be absolutely loaded with pre-completed DLC, loot box haven or some type of similar pay-to-win mechanism, etc. I'm not touching it with a 10 foot pole.

Yeah I saw the demo and agree with everything you just said.

Borderlands is an online co-op, story driven game (I know you know that) what is your reasoning behind calling it an MMO (but not really)?

And I never understood why people are interested in skins for characters (or weapons).  I have had some fun playing around with them in BL2 but they give tons of them away as free loot. The idea of paying for them is truly bizarre.

I admit BL is much more story driven but that style of game (loot shooter/slash) where you go to an area, kill everything, grind up, level and then go to another area and repeat. It never appealed to me. Destiny, Diablo, etc. It was all just a grind to what end? To get better loot, To kill bigger stuff, to get better loot.

These companies just got wise now that while people are endlessly grinding, they can milk them for cosmetics and have them pay to not grind if they want to.

Can't you say that about every RPG? The Witcher,  Tomb Raider, Fallout, even Mass Effect etc. Loot, level, loot, level, rinse and repeat.

The good/great games don't pull that pay-to-win ####, but even they offer pre-order or GOTY bonus perks but they are never relevant to enjoying a story driven game. It's when you get into the MMO arena with limited story and a bunch of needy spazzes running around screaming PEW-PEW-PEW and rage quitting that the scheme becomes insidious.

Borderlands is entirely the former and has the unique distinction of being perhaps the best co-op series ever. They do have the golden key system, or whatever, that gives access to some unique loot but they are very generous giving out free keys if you follow Randy Pitchford's Twitter feed.  But not having that loot does not inhibit enjoying the game.

So what you're saying is you know absolutely nothing about it then. Got it.

Meh. I've seen clips of it. It looks super generic to me. Visually, gameplay wise...nothing particularly innovative or drawing for me about it. And again, I cannot overstate this enough, it's made by EA.

I'll give it a couple months to see what reviews come in and how a few of my friends that are likely getting it feel about it after some time playing, but it's going to be an uphill battle for this game to land in my console.

I cannot overstate this enough, it is not made by EA. It is made by Bioware. It is published by EA, which yes is absolutely a negative. Still, none of your original claims have any basis in reality. I'm not trying to sell you on playing the game; it's perfectly understandable if looter/shooters aren't your thing.

But for the sake of other people trying to decide on playing this game, or any other game, spreading a bunch nonsense off the top of your head based on ignorant assumptions is not helpful.
