Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (9 Viewers)

Cyberpunk PS5 upgrade is now available.

From what I've been reading, it's a lot of small quality of life improvements that add up to a significant overall improvement. Reading a lot of positive opinions around the interwebz.
I'm enjoying this a lot more this time around. Started a fresh character, but man it's hard now.

They nerfed the hell out of everything except hacking as far as I can tell. I thought I was a vet and could play on Very Hard, but I was just getting wasted right and left... Moved down to Hard, and then finally faced reality and went to Normal. :bag:

I bought two PS5s back in November/December just by following one of those Twitter alert accounts.
Sweet for you! I was being a little hyperbolic because I tried for like 3 months to no avail. Called our IT guy at work and he got me one the next day with his bot.

Im sure it’s possible but far easier if you get a IT nerd to do it for you.

I got 2 by ####### luck from Walmart back in march

My brother has introduced his boys (16 and 15) to computer gaming. They love it, and love a lot of the older games. They are all having a LAN party tomorrow - getting some of our old friends together, pizza, etc.

I'll be joining remotely (several states away), but it should still be fun. We tested getting everything working tonight - my nephew crushed me in unreal tournament. I mean, crushed (I was never very good, but still...)

I am kind of an IT nerd and I just got mine the old fashion way. I have both a series and a PS5.

Everybody gotta prove me wrong!

Ok,, OK, Ok!!!  It’s easier to ask your IT department if one of them has a bot.

Elden Ring in one week. So pumped, and the people who got to play the first 6 hours say it’s incredible.
I’m all over this and will actually pay/support the full price, something I really don’t do much of.

I did not know this:

“One of the most exciting features of Elden Ring is that George R.R. Martin wrote the backstory for it.”

:excited:

Currently in the middle of Witcher 3 with all the DLC while I continue to wait for a new Xbox buying opportunity, and I'm glad I gave it a second look after being lukewarm on it in the beginning. As usual I'm taking my time trying to do everything, and after a very late start to Gwent I finally understand it and have compiled a very nice deck.
I played through the game and DLC  but never touched Gwent. That's pretty common for me though. I am rarely interested in the little game within the game.

Why are so many people buying two PS5s? Are these the same people that hoarded eggs during COVID?
Accidently.

My wife and I were on Walmarts website and bought 2 within minutes of each other without knowing we both got one.   I sold the other one to my friend for what I paid for it.

I ordered one from WalMart, then I saw people online complaining that Walmart hadn’t delivered and was canceling orders from previous drops, so when I got an alert they were on sale somewhere else I ordered another. Figured I’d get one by Christmas and if I ended up with two I’d just sell the extra one (which is what happened).

Oofff.  I hope the game actually has an ending then.
Dude-   THANK YOU for bringing this up. I havent paid much attention to this game and it wasn’t really on my radar. I just watched a spoiler free preview and I’m beyond excited for this. I already warned the wife.

This is going to be incredible. Ive preorderd and DL’d it already.

I don't know if it's because I just finished up the original not too long ago or if this one is easier to understand or what but I feel like I "get" what stuff means in HZD west better.

Im also not sure if it's because I didn't build myself up enough when going to the main missions in the old game but this feels better. I'm not a huge rpg guy so some of that stuff still confuses me. I still can't figure out which armour I have is better than the other or not. I also don't understand what everything is lol.

That being said I'm loving it this far.  I flip back and forth between presentation mode and enhanced mode.   One definitely smoother. Also flip back and forth between guided/explorer mode.   I get lost sometimes lol

Not really video game, more of a video game/TV crossover, but Walton Goggins has been signed to play the lead in the upcoming Fallout TV show, which I think is awesome.

By way of contrast, my character in Witcher 3 was an aspiring Gwent player who occasionally killed a monster or two while travelling around the countryside trying to build his deck.

Played cyberpunk for a few hours. It was pretty good and I like the immersion but I simply can’t do first person games anymore. They are all Wolfenstein but better graphics. It’s so tired.

I would play it if it were VR but I can’t waste my time on FP games. If that doesn’t bother you like it does me then I recommend it. Graphics are great. Story seems pretty damn good.

I've been loving it so far, too. I hadn't played Horizon Zero Dawn in four years, but I was looking at the options on the start screen, and there's a section that gives a brief "recap" of the first game, which I found helpful.

I just love games where I set a marker to go do a side quest, and, along the way, I come across numerous other rabbit holes I go down, and then, a couple hours later, I realize I never did the side quest I meant to do in the first place.

Just started it.  Got it super cheap for ps5.   I'm kinda lost how to build my guy and all but it seems good.

I couldn't get into Demon's Souls. Is this more of the same?

It’s more like Skyrim meets Demon Souls.  I couldn’t get into the Souls games either.  I just don’t have patience for that level of difficulty anymore.  Elden Ring is supposedly more accessible (aka easier), but early impressions from various sites say it’s still kind of hard.

I’m trying it either way, because if there’s been one consistent impression so far from the early previews is that it has that “go off in a random direction and explore” type of gameplay and it does it like no other game has since Skyrim.

I don’t think it’s going to be any easier. The souls games certainly arent easy but their difficulty is drastically overstated. It’s about patience, skill and familiarity.

How was the Demon Souls remake for PS5?
It was exactly what I was hoping for.  Basically the exact same game, only with massively improved graphics.  They also tweaked the gameplay, so now you can roll in any direction and you can't cheese the first Maneater any more by shooting him to death through the fog gate.  But otherwise it's the same game as it appeared on PS3.

Having played the original to death, I just made one run through the PS5 version and soaked in a ton of nostalgia.  I'll probably go back and do NG+ at some point, but it doesn't feel urgent.  For folks who never played the original, I imagine the remake will feel kind of like a tech demo relative to games like Dark Souls and Bloodborne, but Demon's has great build variety, great locations, and is kind of a bite-sized title compared to later installments.

I would compare the difficulty of Souls games very much to that of a game like Prince of Persia. There's a ton of trial and error, some puzzle aspects, but mostly just finding a groove.

Loving HZD - some of the travel gets repetitive .  I reached a point now where I need to go do a bunch of sides because the recommended level for the main is 15 and I'm 10.  Overall I'm glad I didn't wait.

Its been great.  I dont want to spoiler unless people are ok with it.....

One of my fondest/scariest gaming moments was when the first Knight with the red eyes came into view.

One of the best aspects of the souls games is when you spot a new enemy and you have the mental back and forth of “do I want that smoke right now?”

Naw, lemme turn back and try later!

Yup. Way more and I haven’t been this excited in a loooong time.

What didn’t you like about Demon Souls?

Good question. I felt like I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing. My impression of the game was one where in every encounter you were supposed to do 50 things perfectly right in a row, and if you messed up just one move you were dead. The third person camera was difficult to utilize and then to top it off, they liked to stick you in claustrophobic corridors where you couldn't see where enemies were coming from and they'd swarm you from all directions. It was just frustrating for me, and then to top it off, what was my motivation? What are my goals? Where am I going?

I looked up builds and started over with a mage type the second time, thinking maybe being able to fight with some space between me and the enemies would help, but still couldn't make much progress. Maybe I just suck. :oldunsure:

Man, I love that kind of exploration. I do hope this game is a little less punishing, but I'll hold out and wait on everyone's impressions to see if I'm willing to try it.

I did some more reading.  It appears the difficulty will be fairly on par with the Souls games, but due to the open nature of the game,  it can be easier.  You can skip things and come back to it later, skip certain things entirely, or use co-op (npc or players) for harder stuff.

I have the same issue with the Souls games.  I just don’t have the patience any more to bang my head against every encounter dying a hundred times until I memorize the correct parry/strike sequence.

I don’t understand why they can’t have difficulty settings like every other modern game ever made.  Those who like it hard can play it that way, but those who want a more chill experience can play the way they want too.

That sounds like every souls game Ive ever played. Co-op makes the game pretty much a cakewalk.

I understand what you’re saying. I no longer play games on the hardest difficulty either. With Souls games- once you figure out that you just can’t go around corners blindly and always to keep your guard up it’s not that hard. You just need to be patient and try to pull one guy if there are multiple. When all else fails- you can RUN YOUR ### OFF!!!

Again, summoning in another player makes it substantially easier. That easy mode.

We should probably start our own thread on it so we don’t clog this one up. It’s a lot of fun to go through the game with others. Sounds like this one will have a password system too so we can try to play together. (“we” being all the FBGs who are playing, I’m on Xbox and I think most of you are on PS5)

I couldn’t be more excited. It’s basically all I’m gonna think of until Friday

the deluxe edition seems like such a scam. 20 bucks more for what?

So HZD tidbit I totally missed somehow.

Campfire to campfire fast travel is "free"

Now I don't need to hoard 20 fast travel packs

Great addition imo

Does the new Horizon actually let you use stealth in important fights, or is it like the first one where most boss fights completely stonewall you if you try a stealth build?
