Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (5 Viewers)

Does the new Horizon actually let you use stealth in important fights, or is it like the first one where most boss fights completely stonewall you if you try a stealth build?
I just took out a ginat monster shooting from hidden.... you have to be super patient

Put the game on pause. Go upstairs to help daughter. PS5 goes to sleep. Ps5 won't turn on anymore. Boot up to black screen :(

I've tried everything but reset :(
well good news bad news - i had to reset my ps5....  Ps5 boots now

so i lost all my games on the internal drive and save data.

So i had to download any games again.    The external storage and the second expansion drive kept all its installs.  So if you guys might want to make the second ssd the default if youve upgraded.

Luckily my cloud storage was backed up so I only lost 2-3 hours from last night.   Thank god

Not far enough in the game to say definitively, however stealth seems much more viable.

There have been a few small battles that I couldn't stealth in, but in at least one I was able to literally run away and snipe from afar.

At this point I've been using a combination of stealth behind traps until I can't hide anymore, then melee.  I enjoy the melee more this time, but multiple robots at once is tough.

Ask your company IT guy. The ONLY way you are getting one is using a bot. Thats how I got mine.
That's a bit of hyperbole IMO. I have been successful getting one each of the two times I tried to get them using Gamestop's Powerup members program. They send out emails when they will release the PS5 bundles, you login and wait till that time and add to cart and purchase. Easy peasy. You can also follow Matt Swider on twitter, he tweets about drops and the best way to grab one. @joker

I literally said as much. Your method with GameStop also requires a monthly subscription. GameStop is not a company I wish to support.

I tried your Matt Swider dude buy I don’t have time to watch Twitter 24/hours a day.

I mean if that’s fun go for it. If you know an IT guy who uses bots you can have one in a few days with no hassle.

Thanks, I follow him already and have had a few tries but usually don't see the tweet in time. You're right about the Gamestop bundles, I could have had one of those but just want the console.

Following the Matt Swider guy and jumping on a bundle from Gamestop was the way I got my PS5 last Easter.

As long as you like the game the bundle has stuff you'll need anyway. 2nd controller (mine lasts about 6 hours so I frequently use the 2nd), PS+ year membership. The only other things are the game (some are good, some aren't), and/or a gamestop giftcard.

I haven't paid much attention to Elden Ring -- like none at all except that I happened to know that it was slated for this year.  I had lost track of the release date and only realized last week that it was right around the corner.  Kind of lucky I guess since it means missing out on the "hype" period.

That said, it looks like I will need to pick this up.  Its the first title where I feel legitimately conflicted about whether I want to play this on console (PS5) on PC.  I probably should wait a few days to see what the PC performance is like.  I suppose I know what to expect on PS5.

It looks so awesome...but I am not good at any of the Soul's games so need to wait for reviews before I make any decisions.

It got a 10/10 on IGN

Here's the IGN video with a decent amount of gameplay footage.

https://www.ign.com/articles/elden-ring-review

IGN tends to give out high scores, but this game looks legit, and From Software's pedigree is super impressive (I didn't buy Sekiro as the mechanics/setting didn't interest me that much, but really liked all their other stuff) .

Like @IvanKaramazov, I didn't pay tons of attention to it, so I am pleasantly surprised by this. I bought it after watching that video, and am eagerly awaiting Friday. May have to quit work early.

I got one (an XBox Series X)  through Walmart's app a few months back.

Well I think I'm caught up to where my PS5 crashed.  I know I'm missing a couple resources I found before and I know I was up a level.   I think I skipped killing some machines this time.

I have the same issue with the Souls games.  I just don’t have the patience any more to bang my head against every encounter dying a hundred times until I memorize the correct parry/strike sequence.

I don’t understand why they can’t have difficulty settings like every other modern game ever made.  Those who like it hard can play it that way, but those who want a more chill experience can play the way they want too.
:goodposting: Elden Ring sounds awesome and I would throw money at it if there was an easy mode, but can’t imagine I’ll ever play it otherwise. I just have no time / patience / interest in that kind of challenge.

They suck anyway ;)

They aren’t that hard at all. I mean even if you suck REALLY bad you can use summons and/or grind up a few levels like you would any other RPG.

Y’all are missing out.

I’m cautiously excited for this.  The difficulty does worry me.  I’m hoping the open world aspect will let me go level up elsewhere and return later if harder content stonewalls me.  I’m hoping the enemies don’t level with you.

ETA: One of the reviews mentions an early boss that was really hard, and what made it hard was not figuring out what to do to beat it, but to keep doing that dodge/strike move for 10 minutes straight without getting hit once (because one hit will kill you).  That’s the kind of #### that frustrates me.

You know this already I think but there are a lot more NPC summons you can use.

You also won’t get invaded by other players unless you opt in for them. Even I admit that those were pretty annoying. Nothing was worse than fighting through a bunch of tough enemies only to get invaded by someone right before you walked through the fog gate.

All reviews say this is the case so I like that.

I played the original Demons Souls. Didnt understand a damn thing about it. Kept dying and returned it a week later. Years later I downloaded Bloodbourne for free and couldnt get past one of the initial parts and gave up as well.

I play video games to relax, not throw my controller through the TV.

 People who play video games for a living say they’re hard. I play video games to relax for an hour or two a couple nights a week after I put the kids to bed - it’s gonna be too hard for me.

Don’t get me wrong, I get the appeal of a challenge like that, it’s just not for me. I’m sure it’ll be a big hit but it does make me think they’re missing out on tons of sales they’d have if they included a story mode or whatever.

Yeah, I’ll be playing this regardless, but I don’t know why the option to make it more accessible doesn’t exist.  Why not give the player a choice?

I finally fired up a game in Days Gone, which I downloaded from PS+ some time last year. it's pretty fun so far, and the northwest setting is pretty unique.

I had one "oh ####" encounter playing last night. I went to one of the NERO checkpoints to turn the power on, and to get into the facility you have to climb on top of the roof. as I was on the roof, it suddenly got cloudy and started raining, and hundreds of ####### zombies started pouring out of a stopped train on an overpass. my jaw hit the floor and I froze. I'm still pretty early in the game, and there's no way I could take on a horde like that. so I just crouched behind a sandbag wall on the roof and watched them, deciding what to do next. then just like that, the sun came out, and they all lined up to go back in the train!  :lmao:  so I'm like cool, let me just wait until they're all back in the train and I'll finish what I'm doing. but as I'm there crouched behind the wall, and the zombies are just about back in relaxation mode, one of them spots me and starts freaking out! and then they all start leaping off of the train and coming at me. when I realized that I couldn't hide from them, I jumped off the roof and sprinted to my bike (which was not close), getting it started and hauling ### out of there, right as they were just about to catch me.

it's been a long time since a video game gave me a shot of adrenaline like that. #### that place.

Really enjoyed this game and parts like this.  The early terrifying/frustrating parts make the later stages so much more enjoyable.  Have fun.  You're still really early in the game, I even know exactly which NERO checkpoint you're talking about.

I'm the same. When I played the most recent God of War a few years ago, there was one optional boss (I think it was the Valkyrie boss?) that I tried to beat probably 40-50 times and couldn't do it, because my quick-twitch reflexes are crappy. I love Skyrim-type games, and I'll likely pick up Elden Ring, but I'm hoping it's not a case of "well, I'm going to bed late because I just spent two unsuccessful hours trying to beat a boss." God, that sentence makes it sound like I'm 98 years old.

Yep.  From is actually really good about showing people what their games are all about, with very minimal bull####.  (I'm looking in the general direction of CD Projekt Red here, but really any developer these days).  The pre-release previews made it clear to me that Sekiro was going to be a bit much for my liking, so I skipped that one over.  But every other FromSoft game has been pretty much as-advertised.  Even Dark Souls 2 was a damn fine game that just suffered in comparison to it's predecessors.

Yup. I HATE these kind of fights. I played tf out of AC Origins, a massive game. Pretty much 99%-ed it. Know what that last 1% I didn't touch was? These mini-boss War Elephant fights, where it pits you in an enclosed ring with it, and you die if you get hit once. I had zero ambition to do that crap.

While I often frequent discord, Twitter, reddit, etc - I really appreciate coming back to this board full of olds and finding solidarity in things like video game difficulty. Everything about Elden Ring looks great to me except actually playing it.

I'm old, slow, uncoordinated and half blind.  And I've beat all the Souls games. When I read something like this (and I have seen it with just about every souls game), I usually come to find out the person just literally had no clue what they were doing. Could be taking on the fight way to early. Or missing a key point (item, strategy, whatever). All in all, I pay a review like that little mind unless I start seeing it from multiple sources.

So I'm like 7-8 hours into cyberpunk.   Just started act 2.   Did everyone just love this game?  Seems like alot of work for not much fun?  I dunno.   Just not digging it as much as i would have hoped.  At least I got it cheap

What lifepath did you choose? Maybe there's a choice that is less work/more fun?

You nailed it with "Seems like alot of work for not much fun"

I got it when released, played it for awhile, but it never really grabbed me. I came back to it when the last patch was released... it's still meh for me. A little clunky all around, and way too many long conversations and cut scenes. Some go on and on and on. And braindance... ugh. The city is pretty nice though. It's too bad - a definite missed opportunity.

Yea, onto Elden Ring.

Yep.  There are a massive number of bosses in Souls games.  Some of them are legitimately bad, like Bed of Chaos from Dark Souls.  There are no Souls bosses that are "do this one particular move for 10 minutes straight or you get OHKed."  If such a boss exists in Elden Ring, it will be a first.  Far more likely is that the reviewer was severely messing something up.

Cannot believe the same people made Witcher 3.   That game is 10000 times better than this

Nomad I think.  I just am not a fan of much in the game.   Gunplay, driving seems clunky.    Alot of boring dialog.   Maybe it's just me.   On to elden ring

Same. Ive already said how stale I think first person games and Cyberpunk was no different. It looked great but as N2K said - clunky. The shooting was pretty bad and I didnt like the way the damage was shown on your enemies. I dont care about the dialog.

Something else that bothered me with Cyberpunk was the long ### tutorial. I loath forced tutorials with a passion. I get why they force them onto players - they don't want you to get frustrated and quit before you get started but my god they're annoying for this gamer who has >35 years of gaming experience. All I wanted to do was get to the core of the game and have some freedom to explore the world. When I was finally done with the tutorial I was pretty bored and after 5 minutes of driving around I hit a wall that wouldn't let me explore more.

Drop me in a world and let me explore it. I have always loved those type of experiences and its why I think Elden Ring has so much potential.

ON TO ELDON RING!!!!!!
