I was looking something up earlier and realised I had more hours logged on My Summer Car than Vice City, and I've literally done everything in the latter game multiple times
At launch, multiplayer was nearly absent. It grew very, very slowly for years. And it was mostly designed around getting people to buy shark cards -- the in-game economy was made tedious on purpose in the hopes that people would pay real-world money to skip it.Good luck with that. I have more games in my backlog than I can possibly finish, and I know this game will still be widely-played and supported five years from now.I think GTA6 is going to be a game changer and possibly not for the better. There is a lot of chatter that the price-point could be three figures for this game. I remember paying $29.99 for a game and thinking that was a lot and now it is pretty standard to pay $69.99. If GTA6 comes out at $149 or even $199, it is going to be interesting to see what that does to initial sales
After seeing what they did with GTA5, why would you even consider buying GTA6 at launch?
Wait, what did they do with GTAV after launch? I recently replayed it and it was just as amazing.
I have backlogged games too, but there is a tier of game franchises that immediately get pushed to the front, and GTA is one of them.
I'm not sure I understand the gripe. GTA 5 had an excellent, lengthy, and fully featured single player campaign from the jump. I was never interested in the multiplayer, but if you're interested in playing a game as a service (which is basically what that MP is), I don't mind them finding a way to monetize that to justify the ongoing expense of supporting the game.At launch, multiplayer was nearly absent. Any game that is designed to make people pay to avoid playing it is a game I can wait until its on sale.

I've been in a video game coma for the last 10 years while raising kids. As I now have a PS5 and catching up on PS4 titles too, I've been enjoying the Far Cry games and RDR2. Currently playing FarCry Primal after finishing FC 5 and 6. What other open world games have a shooter-ish element? I know that Borderlands for the PS3 was also in this genre.Just started playing Far Cry 6. Something about the Far Cry games scratches an itch for me. Never do the online stuff, but just buy the game to play through once it is deeply discounted.

Not a shooter, but Ghost of Tsushima is open world and amazing. Very beautiful game. There is a bow so there is some shooting, but also lots of sword fighting and ninja (stealth) stuff.I've been in a video game coma for the last 10 years while raising kids. I will concur on both of these. Probably should play Horizon Zero Dawn before Horizon Forbidden West, if you plan to play both. I rarely go for platinum but got it on Days Gone (it is one of the easier games to platinum). It had a horrible launch so early reviews panned it, but Days Gone was flawless for me a year or two ago on PS5.I've been in a video game coma for the last 10 years while raising kids. Check out the Horizon games. They are fantastic.
Also, Days Gone is an underrated gem.
One of the things that has people all up in arms is it’s going to be a console only release initially.I think GTA6 is going to be a game changer and possibly not for the better. No doubt that some version of GTA6 will be over $100. Spidey 2, most EA Sports titles, a few others had $99.99 "special" versions of the game. I would guess that base GTA6 will still be around $70, with the "Pat Riley Version" to be somewhere around $125.
What is this? Have you played it? Looks interesting.Good luck with that. Agreed. Why would I pay anybody $150 when I can buy games like Lethal Company for 10 bucks and have a blast?
Gotta squeeze a few more PS5s out to those that don't have them. This is fair enough, but it's worth nothing that the "games as a service" phenomenon is what wrecked this sort of franchise. Back in the day, we were getting at least one and probably more like two very high-quality SP games each generation. For reference, think of Vice City and San Andreas, both of which (I think) launched on PS2, or at least were part of that generation. Or GTA4 and GTA5, both of which were PS360 titles.I'm not sure I understand the gripe. GTA 5 had an excellent, lengthy, and fully featured single player campaign from the jump. Top 5 of all time for me. Absolutely epic.Started Ghost of Tsushima a few weeks ago on the upgraded Director's Cut PS5 version.
Holy crap this is one of the best games I've ever played, period. And it looks absolutely outstanding on the PS5. Don't know how it took me this long to get to playing it.
Gorgeous game, music, acting the works. Enjoy!!!

I agree with this. And this is a reaction to the inflation issue discussed above - for some reason the industry or its customers are so allergic to even inflation adjusted price increases that the economics of a AAA single player game (which costs what a Marvel movie does) don’t work anymore. But the industry has discovered that players will happily bleed themselves dry for extortionate micro transactions in these multiplayer games. This is fair enough, but it's worth nothing that the "games as a service" phenomenon is what wrecked this sort of franchise. Then they sold us GTA5 again on PS4/XB1. Rockstar basically just skipped that generation.
Then they sold us GTA5 again on the current gen.
The reason for this is not because they can't build a SP game in less than 12 years. It's because they make so much money from GTA as a GAAS that they've intentionally sat on the IP all the time.
You're right that GTA5 was a good SP game. If you like that sort of experience, the GAAS angle should bother you. It robbed you of a couple of entries in the franchise.

I got pretty into it one year. Never spend any money, but was logging on for hours a day. They have built a model where you have to do certain things each day to earn fake loot. Or you pony up real cash for game loot. It's a very addicting model. I enjoyed it until it got to be a grind and then I was able to walk away instead of putting in real cash. There's TONS of people that LOVE GTA online. Just because YOU dont doesnt mean OTHERS dont.
my buddy gets madden every year. plays it all the time i stopped buying it like 20 years ago.
every few years i will check it out and let him destroy me and am amazed they are still selling the same game after all this time.

The newest one is like playing a laser disk game like Dragons lair. It’s just all animations.
I buy it every year. I play a single season with the Bucs and then the occasional game against my buddy when he comes over. Worth the 70 bucks to me. I don’t know how to manually update rosters and don’t want to learn.my buddy gets madden every year. plays it all the time i stopped buying it like 20 years ago.

TLOU is a great game and IMO TLOU 2 exceeds it. Just an amazing journey.100% Spiderman 2. Kind of sad it's over. Hoping there is some pretty sweet DLC to come.
I started The Last of Us Part 1 for PS5. Everyone says it's great, and I'm sure it is. Bit of a slow start so far. Not pulled all the way in just yet.
I've been on a bit of a Mario kick. Getting more into Mario Wonder after going on break to play Spiderman.
I also picked up a 3DSXL a year or so back. Finished up New Super Mario Bros 1 the other night. Kind of a fun little game, but definitely shows it's age compared to some of the newer ones.

They're all about microtransactions and GAAS. Same as GTA and Fortnight. But aren't Madden and CoD the exact opposite of what you describe? They ARE churning out new games instead of just new updates.
I think it's safe to say Rockstar spent too much time milking GTA Online for every penny, which looks like it contributed to delaying development on GTA 6.
I'm still surprised at the 2025 release date. A forecast of their financials showed huge gains in the time period March 2024-October 2024 which everyone assumed would be GTA6. Wonder what that's supposed to be. Maybe it was an old report.
I bought Axis football 2024. It's not good but I'm glad I bought it for $20. I want to show support to a Madden alternative. But it's not good - the reviews that say "better than madden" are nuts. This is a step back from All Pro Football 2008 (which I love and was hoping this game would equal. It doesn't by a lot.)
I'll play the new Madden when it goes to Gamepass. I last bought it in 2021, and maybe I'll buy it next year. I like it, and to me is worth buying every 3 or 4 years. But I'd like to see a real alternative.
I might have to buy a new computer for this one...GTA 6 trailer coming out in a few weeks. Some financial forecast is predicting the game to be release sometime between March 2024 and April 2025.

No doubt that some version of GTA6 will be over $100. Spidey 2, most EA Sports titles, a few others had $99.99 "special" versions of the game. I would guess that base GTA6 will still be around $70, with the "Pat Riley Version" to be somewhere around $125.
I watched the trailer earlier this week and it looks amazing. It's getting difficult trying to keep my expectations low.I’ll post in the streaming thread, too, but here’s a trailer for Fallout the show: https://youtu.be/0kQ8i2FpRDk?si=dQyf1MDCaiJdIwQh
GTA V was a great game. I don't play online, but it is such an open world game, that you can play for hours. This talk of GTA VI got me itching a little bit, so I fired up GTA V on the XBOX S. I have to start over because my old game was on the XBOX one, but that is ok, because it is still fun to play. It was a great game at the time it was made considering it has been out for 10 years now and originally came out on the old generation consoles. I have realized that in my early 50s I am not the gamer that I used to be, things that used to be easy, I have to try over and over to get completed.
It really sucks getting older. I am 54 and it seems when I step away from a game, I forget everything about the controls. I haven't played BG3 in a bit and I know I am going to struggle going back in.GTA V was a great game. I don't play online, but it is such an open world game, that you can play for hours. Agree with everything but to play devils advocate on your skills- GTA games have some of the worst, clunkiest controls out there.
That’s doesn’t mean you can compete in twitch shooters but I think you’ll get your mogo back in that game after awhile.
Same problem here and it’s compounded when there are combos required, like a fighting game or the Tony Hawk remaster. How do I do a McTwist again? It really sucks getting older. It is one of the things I hated about Red Dead Redemption 2. I would forget the controls and punch someone every time I started a conversation. My poor horse always took a beating because I could never get how to get on him.
