Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (3 Viewers)

Anyone know if there is a 360 update to fix the problems with the dashboard Kinect issue yet? I took the day off and am planning on some gaming. :kicksrock:

Amazon has a bunch of games marked down to $20 or less. Titles include Assassins Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Valkyria Chronicles, and Demon's Souls all for $20. If you own a PS3 and somehow haven't played Metal Gear Solid 4 yet, it's $13. Spinter Cell is also there for the 360, along with quite a few others.

I ended up grabbing AC2 for a net of $10, thanks to my $10 credit from Fallout: New Vegas. That's only slightly more expensive than a rental.

Edit to add the full list.
Damn, wish I would've seen this yesterday. I've got the $10 credit, too. Need something to blow it on.

What issues? I haven't had any problems.
What he said. ^
Supposedly the new dashboard update for the Kinect caused problems with older 360's.
I have an older 360. I haven't seen any issues. Have you updated yet and having these problems, or are you going based on what you've heard? Also if it's not you having the problem, link to the reported problems. I'm searching and I'm not seeing very much on issues with the 11/01/10 dashboard update. It banned several modded players, but that was by design. I'll keep looking.

I found this article from Major Nelson stating that Dashboard Update problems are resolved. I think you're safe to boot up and start gaming. Report in if you have any issues, though. We'll try to help out. - Signed, you're friendly neighborhood FBG slacker

Microsoft has been hard at work resolving a range of problems identified by the Xbox team or reported by customers which were introduced with the November 2010 Xbox 360 Dashboard update.

The company had already explained that with a refresh of such magnitude, various issues, even major, generalized glitches were to be expected. Solutions were coming, had said the software giant on November 1st, 2010, on the heels of the fall Xbox 360 Dashboard update rollout.

Just two days later, having already confirmed a consistent collection of issues impacting gamers around the world, the Redmond company is now indicating that the major, most stringent problems with the Xbox 360 Dashboard update have been resolved.

As a direct result of the resolves implemented since the refresh went live at the start of this month/week, gamers will now be able to download the update without experiencing any glitches.

In addition, content that has already been purchased is now available for re-downloading. Another problem was related to avatar refresh, and that too has been fixed.

“After a long night of troubleshooting and tweaking by the team, I'm happy to be able to say that your experience on LIVE will be greatly improved today,” revealed a member of the Xbox LIVE Operations team.

“Yesterday a number of people were having problems downloading the update, updating the avatars, and re-downloading previously purchased content.

“The changes that went in over the last 24 hours have made a world of difference, and we'll continue to watch closely throughout the day.”

There are more issues reported by Xbox 360 console owners, both to Microsoft but also in the previous articles I wrote covering the Xbox 360 Dashboard update. The promise from the Xbox team is that more fixes are on their way.

“There were a number of issues raised in the comments of the previous post - we're looking into them, and please keep posting your experiences here as well,” the Xbox LIVE Operations team member added.

Users looking to watch ESPN using their Xbox 360 consoles on Time Warner Cable, will need to turn to ESPN's FAQ for a solution, the software giant explained.

In addition, Microsoft continues to look for feedback, especially in relation to one particular problem. “Yesterday we had a handful of reports of in-game freezes - is anyone still seeing that? If so, what game and at what point?” the company asked.

What about you? How has the Xbox 360 Dashboard Update treated you? Seeing any other problems? Have the fixes implemented by Microsoft worked?

Glad to hear they fixed this. The Nov. 1 update flat out bricked my 360, but my replacement system should arrive by the end of the week. Was contemplating not even using it for a while till the problem had been resolved... At first it seemed as though Microsoft was going to ignore the issue, but a ton of folks were pretty vocal about it on the Xbox forums. In my case it was clear as day. My Xbox worked great over the past year and a half. Ran the update and after the reboot, it gave the 3 red rings of death. The good news is that if it does happen, they seem to be willing to give you a free repair/replacement even if your 3 year warranty for that has expired (at least they did for me).

Hey travjam, have you heard anything about the games Enslaved: Odyssey to the West or NIER? Enslaved is an action adventure game with lots of platforming and NIER is a action adventure rpg with some platforming. Both are supposed to have strong stories. Just wondering if anyone has played them.

I haven't played either of them yet, but I remember seeing footage of them both and wanting to try them out. Enslaved is getting solid reviews and praise from sites I read. I don't really know anyone that's played NIER, although it's been out longer, so I'm not for sure. It looks like a game I'd need more than a week to really get a real feel of. I'm not sure of the other. I can't say when I'll get around to playing them.

I've been kicking it oldschool and playing GTA: San Andreas on my PS2. Funny how that is old school now. :bag: Decided to just fool around so I cheated and gave myself the invincible cheat, and unlimited ammo for the Desert Eagle. Makes for an interesting game.

Still very much hooked on MLB 09 The Show. Again, old school.

For those who had an xbox 360 at launch. Is either dead or alive 4 or perfect dark zero worth picking up?

(local mom and pop store got both for $5)

Just picked up the new Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. I came home to find Fallout: New Vegas, Dragon Age: Ultimate Edition, Assassin's Creed 2, and NIER in the mail from Goozex. Now I have way to many games and not enough time.

Neither imo, any other choices? You could get much better games for $15-$20 if you want to spend a little more. The best close to launch games were Gears of War 1 and Oblivion.

$5 for DOA, can't really beat it but the game isn't that great. Right now you could get super street fighter IV for $20 I believe, and that has been called the best fighting game since the street fighters in arcade machines.

Hey Madshot, sorry I did not join you this afternoon. The wife told me to spend a couple of hours playing the 360 on my day off, so I figured I might as well kick it with Gears 2, which I never finished. It has literally been well over a year since I had played and feel so out of place without my mouse and keyboard. Just when I was feeling comfortable to join your party, the kids got home from school, and wanted to talk a bit, so I never had a chance. Thanks so much for the offer. I will take you up on it in the future.

Np, I was just playing some games listening to Travjam failing at being sneaky in AC Brotherhood. I'm always up for some gears co-op campaign be it it normal/hard/insane. And I can only imagine how you feel coming back to gears after a year. If I don't play for a week it feels like a foreign language to me.

Oh, well if I had known I would get to listen to SlaX going all Corp over the headphones, I might have joined in regardless. :lmao:

I bought a 360 on an impulse one random night after work simply because of the Gears 1 commercial. Have never regretted that decision!

That GoW1 commercial literally made hundreds of thousands of guys go and impulse buy a 360.Edit:added the GoW1/2/3 trailers. All three are fantastic commercials.

Dammit, just pumped myself up again for Gears 3.

Perfect Dark Zero is nothing like the original. It sucked. DoA4 wasn't really that great. There are better fighting games. Most people like DoA for the breast physics, and that's why they transfered the series into beach volleyball and such.

:bag: I finally finished it after you logged off. I think what gets me is after a while of trying a mission over and over, you start rushing it and you get worse and that's not a good thing when you're trying to stealth through a mission.

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit getting real good reviews.
Has anyone played the new one? I loved the PS1 Need for Speed games (straight up arcade racers and cop chases), but I never had any interest in the urban street racing tilt in the last 7 or 8 years.

I know the EA NHL threads were a couple weeks back, but is there anyone on here that thinks the EA NHL game >>>> 2k NBA game?I am ready to trade in Madden after 2 playings and I need to know where to throw my crappy trade-in credits towards (FU, G-Spot!!!).
Best NHL game yet, I play on the 360.
I've played about 5 or 6 hours of NHL '11 and I just can't get into it. The controls are awful for me, particularly the passing... it's impossible to pass to the player you want and typically it ends up being a crappy shot. I was very disappointed with this game.

Yah I found that the changes made for NHL '11 were made primarily for the hardcore player. NHL '10 was the epitome NHL game for the casual player. Though the controls are the same as this years, the passing is a lot easier and you don't have to hold down the trigger to make a hard pass. Though you can change the controls to classic if that's what you are used to.

:banned: It's funny, but I read somewhere that Capcom is working on a DoA type game with motion controlled breast physics. I'm sure there are people out there that would buy that.

So where the crap can I get loads of Element Zero? I had craploads of the other stuff from mining, but frankly, the Zero is so rare to find when surveying, and it has so many cool uses, I am finding myself always with 1-2 upgrades I cannot justify doing because supplies are so low. Is it all just random?

All elements have set amounts and on certain planets. Element zero is rare for a reason. There are a few planets that have a good chunk but I forget which ones. Play through two gives you a nice bonus to all elements.

as I recall, the systems near where you pick up tali have a lot of element zero. Also, if you beat lair of the shadow broker, you will get the locations of planets with tons of each mineral.

At what point can you no longer do the side-quests/loyalty missions? I had the option to go to the derelict vessel to get the IFF and I said later because I would love to do all the quests, loyalty quests, etc. I have only done maybe 3 of them so far.

What special abilities do you unlock with the Element Zero? I dropped 5K of the Zero and nothing happened. I would like to make sure that does not happen again.

On the other hand, I got a new weapon spec on the Collector vessel and I am loving sniper.

I think once you go to the IFF that you're committed and can't go back to the other missions. The last crew member you recruit is through the IFF though, so don't wonder if you missed one before you do.There's a lot of things you can do with element zero. I forget the specifics, though.
