Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (8 Viewers)

Honestly, I find using my PS3 vaguely depressing. It's hard to put my finger on exactly why that is, but most everything about the experience just seems like no fun. Xbox, from what I recall, was somewhat better, especially the XBLA stuff, but I guess I sold that thing for a reason back in the day too.
This somewhat sums up my feelings too - the PS3 is almost "work" to use. You turn on the xbox, and it says "let's have fun". The PS3 I have to somewhat force myself to use. Once I do, it's fine. But the only games I'll buy for the PS3 are PS3 exclusives. If it's on both platforms, it's always the Xbox version.
I find the PS3 interface to be much more "mature" or "sophisticated", whereas the Xbox is more cartoony or childish. I've found that the first thing I do immediately after turning on the Xbox is see which friends are online...it's a much more friend-oriented system. The PS3 was always great for parties, I uploaded a lot of my music onto it and used it as a playlist at parties back in college...it's very slick in that respect.
Really? You enjoy PS3's Home? I own both and the PS3 and its network is an absolute abomination. The fact that it takes a day to down load a game is enough to turn any normal person off, horrible controllers, & lousy blue tooth head sets (that few people seem to use). As for the PS3 being great for parties because you can put music on it... You can do that with the 360 or you can stream the music from your media player on your pc right on the Xbox. My PS3 has been delegated to play a blu-ray player and even that is frustrating because of the brilliance of going with blue tooth for the remote.

Anyone playing Red Faction: Armageddon? How is it?
Its not getting good reviews.
Yeah, average at best. I just have fond memories of the first RF. That was a fun game, and the first one that really let you blow stuff up in the environment.
I played that thing for hours with my friends just seeing how far down we could dig. Eventually we hit the wall but it was neat being able to destroy stuff.

Not sure if I'm the only person that missed this, but BioShock Infinite is being made by the same team as BioShock, when the BioShock 2 was made by a separate team.

Are they selling Skyrim for $60? That's great value for 300+ hours in 150 dungeons.
Pretty much all games launch at $60 retail, and yeah Skyrim is going to be an awesome value at that price.I'm assuming Amazon will offer $10-$20 credit on preorders, brining the actual price down to more like $40-$50. Throw in release day delivery for $0.99 and I'm all set. GB Amazon.

I've never used "Home", but I have used PS3's basic interface for music, uploaded TV shows, etc. and found it to be easy to use and pretty nice.

It is single player only and has no online to my knowledge. PC will look the best if you have a high end computer, besides that we don't have very many details on the specs for the console versions.

Not sure why it took so long for your PS3's to download those games, mine were done in about 30 min...
I agree. 30 minutes is a long time for me.ETA: Try going wired instead of wireless.
I'm wired and I'm not done with the DL yet. I haven't left it on all night yet.
There are weird computer problems related to porting I believe that might be the issue, google it, might help.

I tried Home when I first got my PS3. I made my lame apartment, customized a dorky avatar and ran outside to see what was up. Turn out all people do is make giant "Running Man" lines. I haven't logged back into Home since.

Star Wars: The Old Republic looks sick. Since it'll assuredly be subscription based, I'll probably never play it unfortunately :kicksrock:
That will be the next MMO I play. The last one was LOTRO and it has been a long time since I have ventured there.Must-have for me coming up:BF3SkyrimDiablo 3 (already paid and preordered)SWTORMass Effect 3Not sure about the rest. Oh Gears 3 is already paid for and ordered as well, I guess.ETA Mass Effect 3, of course.

I have the same list as well except I have RAGE on it. I have not played an MMORPG since Age of Conan so I am a bit apprehensive about SWTOR. I really do not think I could put up with another wow-esque type of game even if it is Star Wars. That being said, I will have it from day one and more than likely any SE or CE version they come out with. Bounty Hunter here I come.

Getting a free PS3 soon....any titles I need to know about? I am an XBOX guy...
What other games do you like? Any particular genres?
Mostly play FPS...but am open to most action/adventure type of games. I'd probably be most interested in PS3 exclusive titles.
For action/adventure, the Uncharted and Infamous franchises should be no-brainers. Uncharted is the better of the two, but Infamous is solid (haven't played the second one yet). Metal Gear Solid 4 if you like stealth games. FPS is going to be either Killzone or Resistance. I don't like Resistance, but that's just because it's not my playstyle (fast-paced run-and-gun). I loved Killzone 2 and would definitely have put that one in my personal Top 5, but Killzone 3 was disappointing. They took out most of the stuff that made KZ2 tactical and unique and it feels kind of generic now. Again, though, that's just me. It's still good eye candy and worth a try.

Excuse my naivety but how do you know if your laptop is good enough to play skyrim or SWTOR?
SWTOR will be much easier on the video card than Skyrim. You will need good RAM (4 GB, more better) and a very good video card. What is your laptop?

Its a Compaq. My wife got it for me so she wasnt looking at any specs. My last questions about this in this thread. Dont want to clutter it up1. How do I tell what video card is in the machine2. How would I know if that was a good card or not

What model is it? Tell me that and I can look up your specs. I am gonna lean towards no way will it run them, however, based on it's a Compaq.

Infamous (third person open-world superhero game)Resistance and Resistance 2 (excellent FPS)Valkyria Chroicles - Turn-based strategy. Might seem a little "kiddish" at a glance. It isn't. Demon's Souls - GREAT third person action/RPG. Yea, it's a hard game, but it's meant to be hard. The design just works - you actually won't mind doing levels over (it's part of the appeal). Best sword/shield combat ever put into a game.

Bought a PS3 as a birthday present to myself a few months ago and have only used it to play blu-ray dvd's borrowed from a friend so far. I sold Killzone 3 that came with it because the reviews were not good, but I'm really looking forward to playing Uncharted 1 & 2 eventually and probably picking up some cheap used copies of Heavy Rain & Resistance.

Question if anyone can point me in the right direction. I can't for the life of me get the PS3 to connect to my wireless network. I fixed my NAT settings about 6 months ago for Black Ops multiplayer to work on my 360 so I don't think that is the issue. I've tried creating a static IP address and a few other quick fixes I found on google, but nothing seems to work. Anybody suggest a good resource to take a look at? I hadn't bothered to try to fix it since PSN went down, but now that it's back up I want to get it connected.

Looking at BF3 and SWTOR as probably my next two purchases at full retail. Not sure I want to get into another MMO, I spent way too much time in LOTRO, but I will probably give SWTOR a shot but at a slower pace (and time commitment.) I still jump in LOTRO once in a while, was even working on the new raid that was released recently, but just am not as into it anymore.

Probably will pick up other games through Steam sales...depends on the deal, but they have some incredible sales if you are willing to wait a little before playing a game (L4D2 @ $5 for instance.)

No Diablo 3 Maelstrom?

Never played the Diablo series :bag: I haven't been back to Dragon Age Origins at all recently either. I also didn't care for Oblivian. Not sure what it is about single-player RPGs, but I have a hard time staying interested in them long term.

I love this game. I haven't touched 2K11 in a couple weeks. 50+ hours already put in, and while I'm really looking forward to "finishing," I'm also excited to see what other origins stories I can do and to make different choices in the game - this is my only playthrough and all I've done is whatever my whim was at any given moment...

Aside from the online advantage for the 360, most of the multi-platform games are the same, if not better, on the 360 than the PS3 (even in offline mode).

And just so you don't think that I'm a blind hater of the PS3 and a total 360 fanboy, I own both the 360 and PS3. I readily admit that there are some great things about the PS3 - a few great games (the Uncharteds, God Of War 3, etc.), significantly quieter and more reliable than the 360, and the Blu Ray player. But all of these good things don't overcome the fact that 360 is a better gaming experience than the PS3 for most some people.
Fixed. One point that you guys are overlooking is the fact that Microsoft has more or less abandoned their core gamer market to focus on Kinect. The 360 has very few exclusive franchises left; it's really not an exaggeration to say that the 360 exclusive lineup amounts to semi-annual installments of Gears, Halo, and Forza. Like I mentioned earlier, the PS3's more diverse library and Sony's willingness to support some off-beat, niche-like titles is a big selling point for me.

But that's just me. If somebody wants to buy a gaming console primarily to play with their XBox-owning friends, and they really like Gears, then obviously the 360 is going to be the right console choice for that person. That's not everybody or even "most" gamers though.
No, based on software and hardware sales, most gamers prefer the 360 over the PS3. That's an objective fact. And reviews on multi-platform titles were solidly the same or better on the 360 than the PS3 for at least the first 3 years of the console generation (it is pretty much even now). Bioshock and Oblivion are two exceptions that come to mind, although those were released much later after their 360 counterpart (allowing for additional content and some graphical cleanup). I supposed you can count FFXIII as well, although the 360 version was added late in the development stage. Like I said above, I'm not trying to stir the pot here as there are some very good things about the PS3. But objectively, they lost this generation's console war.

I know what the word means and I am using it correctly. We will agree to disagree.

Let's talk about the Assassin's Creed series. I've been in a rut of late. I need some new single player action to hold me a few months until Gears 3 drops.

I played and very much enjoyed Assassin's Creed 2. I've heard Assassin's Creed Brotherhood is good, although not as good as AC2. Regardless, I've heard enough good things to purchase it. My real questions are about AC1 and the AC2 DLCs.

I've heard, from people in this thread, that AC1 is a crap game, basically an abortion. Is this true? The reviews, while not off-the-charts, aren't THAT bad...81 from Metacritic, 9/10 from Gamespot, 75/100 from IGN. Is it worth a buy? Gotta be pretty cheap these days, I'd think.

Re: the AC2 DLCs, looks like there's two...Battle for Forli and the Bonfire of the Vanities. Are these worth a pickup?

His posts are based on observable phenomena, namely software sales numbers, so yeah, he is. How is he not using that word correctly?
The war is not yet over? Console sales in 2006 and 2007 and 2008 have little/no bearing on the worthiness of a console today?

I also have AC2 on queue but figured I'd bang out AC1 first so I got the whole story. I have found AC1 to be pretty underwhelming and am struggling to get motivated to play through it.Can anyone tell me if it's that important to play AC1 story-wise?

AC1 is far from a crap game. It introduced many excellent aspects that we see standard in the series now. The problem is if you have already played 2, you're going to hate it. It was a great start but its very repetitive. AC2 added so much more depth to the game.

I liked AC1 enough to play it through. A lot of of others didn't and I can't blame them. It'd be really tough to go backward from AC2 though, since that game was such a revolutionary jump forward. Never played the AC2 DLC though I seem to remember them getting poor reviews.
