I hate being the n00b here, but I have a dumb question to clarify what I asked above somewhat.

I'm trying to open a new PSN account and it is saying the site is down for maintenance. Has PSN not been allowing new members since the security breach, or is this unrelated? I am going to return this thing if I cannot get on PSN because I need to be able to get the Sunday Ticket.

I'm trying to do this on my computer. On the PS3 itself, I only have an option of signing in, rather than creating an account. I did a system restore after I tried the first time and some other person's email (assume the previous owner) automatically filled in the user ID.

So I got a pre-owned 160gb PS3 and Uncharted 2 for about $200 after turning in a few games at Gamestop this afternoon.I can't subscribe to PSN though. All that stuff was fixed, right? This is just normal site maintenance? What's the deal with the controller? You have to keep it plugged in the USB to charge but it's wireless like xbox, right?

Being a guy normally forgoes things like instructions, I'll save you the early frustration I had with this helpful tip....the controller only charges when the PS3 is turned on.

It will charge in any usb slot. I use my computer to charge it since the lappy is closer to the video game chair.

What about PC games? Also if console, XBLA or PSN games might better suit your needs, such as Trine or Shadow Complex, maybe Bastion?

Price has nothing to do with the length of the game. Most $59.99 games come in at 15 hours or under. RPG's maybe more, but even then, games like Mass Effect/etc are very manageable.

I'm surprised no one here follows MLG at all. Really an exciting finish to the Halo: Reach tournament this weekend, finals just ended. Instinct (aka "The God Squad") had been undefeated for the entire season since they formed, winning the last two tournaments in blowout fashion. Infamous (13 seed) had literally just formed a few weeks ago with a handful of experienced castoffs from other teams, including one player who had actually been cut from another team two tournaments ago.

After losing a match the other day, they had to work through the loser's bracket to get to the final...they played for 9 straight hours, from 11:18 AM ET to 8:12 PM ET, winning 7 straight matches (including knocking off all of the 1-4 seeds) and beating Instinct twice (double-elimination tournament) in the final for the epic win.

I'm telling you, it's pretty fascinating to watch, and it's incredible how good these players are. I don't even like Halo, and I like watching them play. MLGpro.com has a very good live stream with good commentary and good quality video.

I lean sandbox over linear but can understand those that dislike sandbox. What I don't like about either is how time stands still on every aspect while you are free to go shopping, do other tasks, chat with people, etc. In both of of these types of games, they always try and impart a sense of urgency on you <Game>: We need your help immediately. Please get here as fast as you can"<Player>: Okay! ...right after I go to the store, buy a new weapon, perform this quick Fedex task, jump up and down for an hour (Hello Oblivion) and try and get into this NPC's pants. Ultimately, I think the best format would be a sandbox game that progresses in real time around you. It would give you plenty of notices and warnings that things were going to happen with or without you but if you chose not to go, they would happen anyway and the game would continue to progress, or even end if you ignored critical storylines.

Dead Rising does this somewhat. Its not completely openended but you a free to roam and do what you like until rescued. Missions have time limits until you can no longer do them.

That's a good example. There are consequences for the choices that you make or missions you fail; unlike Red Dead Redemption (which I did like) where they just let you start the mission over.

Borderlands 2 has this feature according to an article I just read. The example they gave wasMission: rescue guy. When you to rescue the guy, there will be bad guys. If you take too long defeating bad guys, other bad guys take away the guy you were trying to rescue. You subsequently fail your task and the game branches so that your failure can be accommodated in a future mission.

I enjoy watching MLG events and think that they don't get nearly enough press. MLG COD is a joke but whatever. The Halo MLG pros are simply the illest console players alive. I still admire watching their outright skill even if I don't like Reach and think it is an abortion compared to the previous iterations, but I don't seek it out like I used to. If you enjoy pro gameplays Steve, you really oughta subscribe to FBWalshyFTW and AirGuitar901 on youtube. They're always posting nice Halo 3/Reach gameplay videos and montages. I watched a lot of the Starcraft and halo tourney this weekend Pete. New roomate went to the last event and got the rest of us hooked. Kind of interesting seeing people who have never played videogames before get sucked into Mlg in the span of a weekend.

My son got Black Ops about a month ago because its the one game that pretty much all of his friends play, and of course I gave it a try too. I really want to like this game because it has a giganitic community, a pretty constant flow of new maps, and all sorts of customization options, but I just can't stand the gameplay. I understand why people like it, but I find it more annoying than fun.

On the other hand, I also went back and picked up Bad Company 2 again. I'm surprised at how many relatively-new people are playing (lots of players below level 30), and half of the maps are brand new to me. This should be a nice and inexpensive way for me to kill a month before Dark Souls comes out.

If you do the side missions after opening it up, then all your crew slowly die and you get to watch that when you arrive in omega. Only other thing I can think of that has a consequence but all you have to do there is not open up the omega gate before doing all the side missions.

This is exactly what I was thinking.

Amesome game. It's got a little bit for everybody so you can decide how you want to play it. A few tips on using Praxis points:- Social Enhancer isn't worth the 2 Praxis points since it isn't used that often. Unless you're against it, it's not that hard to save and reload to get the outcome you want.- Hacking Capture builds up XP very fast, especially on the higher levels. While there are codes and other ways in it seems a waste to do that when you can hack. I found putting a point (-15%) into Hacking Stealth helped a lot.- Typhoon is cool, but not really necessary in the early game - I would have waited and put points elsewhere early on.- Move/Throw Heavy Objects comes in handy- Carrying Capacity is a necessity since the weapons are huge in the game - I filled up all three early on and was able to carry move weapons I could sell.- Mid-game (probably after you get to China) you can put points into Cybernetic Leg Prosthesis (2 points and gives you Jump Enhancement) and then Run Silently (1 point). Combined with Cloaking System it will give you the ability to be run silent and invisible - great if you are trying to complete the mission undetected. Reflex Booster also helps on these missions because you can take out two guys at the same time for 1 energy cell.

I obviously have no idea as Borderlands 2 won't be out until next year but the article made it seem like there was a time limit but not one that the player really knew about.

It just came out on PS3 in the last 9 months. In a ME2 thread, I think it's fair game. In a general thread like this there's lots of guys like me who don't buy games on release day and buy them when they get cheap and they have time. I don't want to worry about reading spoilers thrown out with zero warning on a game I'm about to play. It's not like it's hard to use spoiler tags

I think the so-called "yellow light of death" would be more the PS3 equivalent to the red ring on XBox. The system is still functional; it just freezes up frequently (maybe every half hour or so). I've tried the system restore, but it didn't really help. I still think there's probably some way to fix this, but it's beyond me. I just bought a refurbished system from Best Buy for $190. Looks like I may be able to get $50 or so for my old machine on on eBay.What kind of sucks is that I lose my digital copies of inFamous and Little Big Planet, and I apparently can't copy my save game files for Force Unleashed 2 or Dante's Inferno.

Cool, thanks.Guess I'm done with this one then. If it counts, this is actually the first RPG type game I've played through to the end since Final Fantasy for NES. I jumped all over Morrowind for original Xbox when it was released, but I hated that game and was totally lost the entire time.

Yeah, that's where I went. I missed out on the 250 GB model by just a few minutes. I ended up with the 120 GB for the same price.

I don't think this should be an issue.As long as you use the same PSN login for the new machine, these items should still be in your download list and you can download them again. PSN factors in that people will be changing machines from time to time and they allow multiple downloads of the same item.I know when I changed over to the PS3 slim when my old ps3 died I was able to download all DLC's that I had downloaded in the past,

I just saw this now. I assume FBWalshyFTW is the MLG legend? I will take a look. Never heard of KampyVids either.I much prefer to watch the gameplay videos of the Gears games, but it seems to me like a lot of them are contrived/planned.

ME2 is a totally different game if you play it on Insanity. When I played it the first time on whatever "normal" is, I thought the combat was pretty boring and repetitive, since it just amounted to taking cover and spamming incinerate/overload/warp until everything was dead. Replaying it on Insanity was way more fun and required a much more thoughtful approach to combat and squad selection.
