did we play the same game? You can't go ten feet without bumping into a fort, elven ruin, a temple, etc. I actually wanted a larger sense of scale than Oblivion gave. I liked Daggerfall and Morrowind a little more in that sense, because when you found something, you truly felt like it was special (especially Daggerfall.)
wow. After playing Oblivion for probably close to 150+ hours I am going just stay with "agree to disagree" at this point.I honestly don't remember even 30 seconds, much less 10 minutes, when my map/compass was not pointing something out to see.
yeah I am starting to wonder that myself if he is mistaking this game with something else.Think of how crowded your compass was always in the game. Hell, even swimming in the water there was a ton of stuff to do.

It's always a matter of just getting in close enough and whacking away. I don't know that there is any game out there where you can take advantage of a long swords reach over a short sword, etc. It's always just been a matter of damage vs. speed.
Demon Souls built this into game play better than any other game I have ever played. Not only does length factor in but type of weapons factors in. You might have the greatest axe ever, but using it in a tight corridor would be almost useless where switching to a simple spear would be much more affective. The landscape of where you were fighting always had an affect. And while length of weapon did give you a reach advantage, it almost always came with a speed reduction as well.

I think there should be some sort of visual indicator of when enemies are in range. Like maybe they came make the top edge of a blade turn blue, or make the bottom edge of the screen glow red. If game companies can perfect the distance thing, they could make 1st person ninja games.

I'm sure both games are going to be stellar, so it really just comes down to what sort of game you want. If you want a very challenging, action-oriented game, get Dark Souls. If you want a more relaxing experience with more NPCs and free-roaming, get Skyrim. If you still can't decide, just get Skyrim. I imagine that pretty much everybody will enjoy Skyrim, while Dark Souls is going to be more of a love-it-or-hate-it thing.

Either way, I doubt you get it for less than $40, and my point was generally if you don't even know if you like that type of game, spend $20 or less if used, and pick up one of the higher rated RPG's from the last two years and give it a try. Taking apart a ps3 is pretty hairy. It has numerous layers. Watch a YouTube video before you even contemplate it. A heat gun will likely not fix the YLOD problem. I had the solder professionally reflowed and the problem came back about 3 weeks later.
Yeah I don't have any intention to take my PS3 apart, I'm too technologically incompetent to do that; plus it gives me an excuse to get one of the new 250-300 GB ones that I've been wanting to get. But if there's an easy fix where I don't have to take it apart, I won't be able to justify purchasing a new PS3 and I'll just settle for using my 40GB piece of junk.
There is no easy fix. In fact there is no real fix for the problem. It can be remedied for various lengths of time but the design flaw is still inherent and the problem can always come back. On the brighter side, I got $80 for my broken PS3 unit on EBay. When you couple that with the recent price drop of the ps3 slims, you won't be out of too much pocket money.

Agreed (although I don't think the dissassembly was that hard. I was able to short term fix it 2 or 3 times and each time the solution lasted a shorter time until it just wouldn't work at all any longer. The one benefit would be to backup your data so that you could transfer it to your new unit.

I never got past level 10 or something in Oblivion. Never got into it, and never really liked it when I was trying to play it. Felt empty to me and never knew what I was supposed to be doing. Probably coulda stuck it out a bit longer and let the story evolve, but really was not into it.
