Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (3 Viewers)

thinking about buying a wii for the kids, what do i need to know?
They make great (& expensive) Netflix players. How old are they? Ours collects dust.I recommend the 3DS. It's not as loud, the games are slightly cheaper, it's a portable netflix streamer, and its a little more personal to them.
thanks for the reply, kids are 6 and 4, have a ps3 but most of the games seem a little advanced for them
My 7-5-2 year old boys love the Playstation Move. I can't see any reason for a Wii unless you are going to put the Wii in a kids room and allow them to beat it up.

The Wii is perfect for them. Yes, Nintendo is bringing out a new console next year but there is a substantial back catalog of excellent games for the Wii and many of them will be inexpensive as they're older titles. I say go for it.

All of which will be playable on the new system, or so I've heard.

just fyi but my 5&6yo boys would much rather play the 360 than the wii.

I think that's true. The new system though won't be launching until late 2012, and will likely be a lot more than $149.99. Also any controllers or other peripherals you buy for your Wii should be compatible with the Wii U when/if you decide to upgrade. No question Nintendo has the best catalog of kid-appropriate games, and without waiting another year the Wii is the only way to play most of them.

wii vs playstation move - cost wise the seem about the same (89 for move bundle vs 129 for wii and additional move controllers seem more expensive) but nintendo seems to have a much larger library of cheap games at this point that target my kids age range.

not too worried about a new system launching in 2012, i'm more interested in catching cheep gaming at the tail end then buying a bunch of new stuff for the kids on the front end, i'm not sure they'd even notice the difference at this point

thanks everyone for replies

Wii's hackability makes it win by a large margin.

love love love playing some old school nintendo games on my big screen

Link? 98% of Wii games are horribly awful. The systme has so many bad games they coined the term "shovelware".

LinkAgreed the vast majority of Wii games are crap, but there are a lot of wii games. There are definitely lots of good games for the system if you have kids and want them playing Mario instead of Call of Duty.

Yeah, the ease of hacking this thing make it one of the best systems to own in that regard. Also modding an old PSP is the second easiest thing ever. Portable SNES with a real controller? Yes please.

"Someone I Know" hacked his Wii about 2 years ago. He has upwards of 75 games running off of a hard drive. All of the highest rated Nintendo has to offer. It hasn't been turned on more than 10 times in the last year. Even the best Wii games are pretty crappy compared to the offerings of Sony and Microsoft.

That's just like, your opinion, man.

the wii sucks. i sold that #### and a bunch of games to some sucker on here for a really great deal. i think i remember him saying he got bored of it as well and sold it to someone else shortly after.

Starting Skyrim tonight. Had bought it for the PS3, but heard horror stories so I exchanged it for the 360 version. Any quick pointers to start off? Would read the Skyrim thread but figured there would be spoilers.

It's kind of hard to go too terribly wrong in this game. The #1 advice I would give is to save your first several perks until you know what kind of character you want to play. It kind of sucks to invest perks in destruction (for example) early on, and then never use it because you like stealth-archery instead. For the first 10 levels or so, only spend a perk if you're sure its in a skill tree that you want.

This is a huge underrated "feature" IMO. I'm not worried about the WiiU, since my Wii can still be my emulation system for the TV. Then I'd just play Wii/WiiU games on the WiiU. (Starting to hate that name, "WiiU")

You probably don't know this, but the PS2 has more "shovelware" than the Wii does. And the PC has much, much more shovelware than that. Shovelware follows whatever system is selling the best at the time.

I'm surprised at Skyward Sword having a lower Meta score than Twilight Princess. I bet that evens out as time goes on.

We've been pretty good about spoiler tags, you should check out the thread.

Speaking of Skyrim, Toys R Us is supposed to have Skyrim on sale for $39.99 starting this Sunday (18th thru 24th). There are likely to be other big name titles on sale for $20 off too, but I haven't seen the ad. Stay tuned and either buy at TRU or have one of the competitors match it.
Decided to pick up Skyrim today for this price. I'll start it later, but wanted to grab it while the deal was good.

I must have become the worst video game player in the universe lately. I'm playing the new Deus Ex on easy and I'm STILL getting my ### kicked regularly. :hot:

Just consoles. PC version appears to be regular price. Might get successful convincing a competitor that PC version is included for price match, though.

Anyone looking to get Star Wars: The Old Republic? I just saw a commercial for it. That's the Star Wars MMORPG, right?

Any beta players in here?

Honestly. I'm on easy and have gotten to the first big boss battle and it's nigh on impossible.I'm beginning to wonder if it's worth continuing. :wall:Nobody could do this game on max difficulty.

Ugh. Just bought even more games. Now, in addition to the 6 or 7 PS3 games I've stockpiled, I also now have added Just Cause 2, Metro 2033 and the entire Fable franchise (I, II and add ons). I knew building a new gaming PC was a bad idea. I only get to game, maybe 4-8 hours per week these days. Not sure when I'm going to play all these.

Of those listed and othets stockpiled on Steam (Mafia II, Empire and Napoleon: Total War GoY or Mass Effect 2, which is going to be the most taxing graphically? I want to put my new machine to the test (not that any of these older games will strain it probably)

Decided to hold off until GotY edition of Arkham City. It IS a great game, though. I've already played through it once. I picked up the new Jurassic Park game, instead.

I am rather proud of myself - I have purchased a single Steam title this holiday sale yet. :bag:

The new Deus Ex available for download at just over $10.

Link
Plan on spending about 20 minutes trying to get it and the download packs into your cart. Site is horribly slow
 Playing it on the PS3 and I do like it. I was finally able to figure out the first boss battle. I'm getting the hang of it now.
Not the game. The site offering the download
I wasn't clear what I meant - I just meant that I think it's worth the effort.
