Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (8 Viewers)

A few days ago, I downloaded a new PSN title called Rainbow Moon. It's a turn-based RPG, which is a genre I had never tried before. This is a tremendously good game so far, about 8 hours in. Very old-school from the gameplay to the cartoonish graphics to the text-based dialog, complete with weird translation errors. The RPG elements seem to be pretty deep, and the game appears to be really long -- it took me almost 5 hours just to leave what is essentially a tutorial area. This sort of game isn't going to be for everyone, especially considering that it plays kind of like a board game, but for $15 it's definitely worth a look.
Just want to give you a shout-out for this. Found out about this game from this post. My wife is a huge TB-RPG fan, and she downloaded it when I told her about it. She's been into it for the last two months, and still on her first game (about 60-70 hours so far). She says it's one of the best TB-RPG games she's ever played. Thx.

Just wrapped up AC Brotherhood. Normally I don't go back to back with my AC games but the ending has me hooked. I may go right into Revelations or go into ME3. Not sure yet. Figure I can't go wrong either way. On a tangent, has anyone played Risen?
I've been interested but from what I gather Risen is a train wreck and Risen 2 is only slightly better.
I didn't like Risen all that much, but Risen 2 is a lot of fun. However, there's a caveat here - if you don't truly appreciate RPG's, or if you need a game to have a lot of polish and really smooth combat, Risen 2 will disappoint. It's a little "rough", combat starts off bad, it's limiting in that you can't build a super-character, and it doesn't "radar" you to quest destinations (like Skyrim does, etc). Sometimes, you just have to figure it out for yourself (for example, you need to actually find/buy a map for each location before you can see a birdseye view of anything). Combat *does* get better, but it's no Dark Souls (or even Dragon Age). Shooting guns is fun, though. Loot is well done, character builds / skills are interesting, etc.I would say if you enjoyed PnP role playing, you'll like this game. Personally, I had a blast with it.
Thanks for the response. I went with Witcher 2 but may give Risen/Risen2 a shot some time down the line.

Cool. Glad she liked it.

Can either of you guys comment on this review? I was thinking about this one as a light diversion, but the review had me a bit concerned. I hate having to grind just for the sake of grinding. It's why I've never been a Diablo fan. Ivan, not sure if you are far enough in to it to have run in to this yet.

I haven't been planning on buying Borderlands 2 (at least not for a while), but the closer to launch we get, the more I think I may get it anyway. What's the count on PC players vs console players here that plan on buying it? I ask because I want to play the game with others. The first was great as long as I was playing with others, but after a couple of weeks, almost everyone moved on to other games and I never really got to finish the game since I didn't care for the solo play.

me too, although I may be one of the few who really enjoyed this game solo. Wifey pre-ordered the game from Amazon today for me.Can't wait.Saw a commercial today for it during one of the NFL games but did not like it since it was a live action mock up of the game. I would have preferred just to see real game play in the commercial. If you did not play the first Borderlands, the commercial gave you no idea what the game looks like.

Been playing MLB The Show 12 over the weekend. Hadn't played since 07. Solid as always. I don't get into the nuance of managing a franchise in baseball games (unlike Madden) but I really enjoy the RTTS/career mode. Have a young lefty throwing fireballs who just got finished serving time as a middle reliever and is about to get his first Major League start. The only issue with this game (as always) is that baseball is such a grind. I don't want to sim games but playing every appearance can get old - especially with the slow load times.
I played an entire season of a fantasy drafted team. It was a grind but fun. Now in the second year and I chose one up-and-coming #5 starter and only play his games. It's still a lot of fun.
For the show guys, how deep do the minors go? Single A or double AA?
AA and AAA are playable.I highly suggest you get The Show 12 if your an avid baseball game fan.Roster sets available in the vault:1984 season set1994 season set1996 season setThese rosters are built for season mode (not franchise mode) to play out one season.AMAZING ROSTERS. Tons of fun to releive all the great glory years of baseball on these.A 1990 franchise set is coming soon as well. The Show 11 and 12 are hands down the very best sprots games this gen. It;s not even close (save for NBA 2K11).I have Madden 13.....watiing for a much needed patch or 2 for offline Connected Careers mode. TONS OF ANNOYING BUGS. They must be patched to play offline. Online CCM get immediate server side fixes.....but i don't play online. Other than that I agree with Steady. This is the best overall effort since last gen.And I agree about Madden 10....a very solid title. 11 and 12 were meh and are not very playable to me anymore.NCAA 13....top notch.

I played it solo a lot more than co-op. Imagine I will do the same this time. Several run throughs with several character types. I tend to enjoy single player more in general. Just not a huge online fan. With my son is about the limit of my multiplayer/co-op experience.

I really enjoyed SP as well. Played a little co-op, but SP was fine.

I did some online co-op just to get the trophies and it was ok. I hated playing co-op off line though as the split screen made it hard to manage your pack.

I rented Sleeping Dogs last weekend and its about what you'd expect, a GTA clone. They did a good job with the story and the driving/racing is fun. The combat is similar to the recent batman games, overall pretty good. Completing some missions makes you lose your guns, which can be hard to come by anyways, but I guess its intentional since guns aren't prevalent in HK. Good game overall, definitely won't buy it but I'll probably re-rent it to finish it.

My son bought NCAA '13 over the weekend. Having a lot of fun playing as Barry Sanders. A little disappointed that you have to pay extra to play as a bunch of the advertised Heisman winners. They have a decent mix of winners to choose from, but a few notable exceptions I wish the could have been able to add, mainly Bo Jackson. Also, how fun would be it to have been able to choose Steve Spurrier and have him play for SC. OK, maybe I'm the only one to find that idea entertaining.

BS move, imo. We got all these guys fro free for more then a decade, now they wanna charge me for each of em.

The game is a lot of fun, though. Both NCAA and Madden are great this year.

So, Borderlands II is out in four days! Anyone been planning out their characters yet? I haven't gone to the Borderlands 2 site yet, where they have skill tree planners already set up. But I have watched some youtube videos on the character classes. 99% sure my first character will be Assassin, the new Mordecai. But the Siren will probably be my second choice. Or maybe I'll use the Assassin for single player and the Siren for co-op play. The co-op value of the Siren seems off the charts to me.

As I said, I will be co-oping with my son on the PS3 version. If anyone wants to hop in with us, let me know and we can exchange user names or whatever. With the pre-order amulets, we'll be soring at least 20% extra loot on drops, more if you also pre-ordered and have the amulet also. Supposedly the values stack.

Can't wait for my copy to be shipped. I am not pre planning my character though. Just looking forward to making a ton of choices when they happen. I won't be playing co op in the beginning at least so I can take my sweet time during every level up. I keep hearing different stories about what you get with the pre order but can't seem to find the final answerI have read about the amulet but I also read that if you preordered you got access to a 5th character class. Not sure which or both we really get access to.

Yea, I'm not going to pre-plan numbers, which is why I haven't gone to the site. But I did enjoy the videos and seeing the strengths of each character type so I could choose something I would enjoy right off the bat. First time I played through the original, I chose Roland thinking a soldier would be the best fighting class. Only after playing Mordecai and the Siren chick did I realize how poor that choice had been.As for the amulet, I should say, that is what the GameStop dude told me when I pre-ordered. He is a gaming geek of the highest level so I believed him. But it is possible he could be wrong. It isn't like I heard it from an actual 2k employee or anything. Speaking of which, I am a 2k Insider and yet have never received any type of info from them on this type of stuff. Just an admittedly sweet laptop bag. But anways, I digress. As for the character, one of the videos with the 2k designer mentioned it would be out 30-60 days after the game release. A necromancer.

I think you are right to read up a bit on the various characters so that your first choice can be a good one. Although I will likely choose all classes eventually. If you pre-ordered at Gamestop, it looks like they have yet another goodie that is exclusive to them

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2012/08/28/borderlands-2-39-s-preorder-bonus-welcomes-you-to-the-slaughter-dome.aspx

These are what I hope to get from the Amazon pre order. Is one of these things in bold the amulet you were referring to?

"Pre-order Borderlands 2, for Xbox 360 or PS3, and get a $10 Amazon credit good toward the purchase of items shipped and sold by Amazon.com (certain exclusions apply, including but not limited to Kindle books, Gift Cards, and Amazon Appstore for Android apps) and access to the Borderlands 2 Premiere Club, which includes a Golden Key, Vault Hunter's Relic, Gearbox Gunpack, and new Mechromancer class. The promotional credit and Premier Club codes will be e-mailed within two days after the product ships."

Blah, link blocked. I'll view it later at home. But I would say that the Vault Hunter's Relic sure sounds like the piece he was referring too!If you can, and don't mind, could you post the actual Gamestop goodie? As I said, can't view it here.

I'm about to complete arkum asylum except for getting all the chattering teeth. Is it worth getting 100%, or can I disregard going back and searching for 3 more teeth in the botanical gardens.

I know I pre-ordered from greenmangaming and got 5 things, including the class and amulet. Still waiting on them to send me my key so I can register it with Steam. :nerd:

Here is the text. There is also a video you can watch when you get home==============="Borderlands 2 fans who preorder the game from GameStop can pick up a little bit of exclusive in-game content. The Creature Slaughter Dome drops players into an arena against scores of Pandora's creatures.Players who survive the Slaughter Dome score additional experience and weapons, including Moxxi's rocket launcher, which they can then take into the wilds of Pandora. It looks as though it's a similar setup to Borderlands' Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot DLC, for better or worse."

FWIW - you can preorder the BL2 season pass for like $22 right now, normally $30. It gives you access to all of their planned 4 add-on campaigns. My link

How many Ps3 guys will end up co-opping this? I bought Borderlands for Ps3 and although fun it isn't tons of fun by yourself. Deciding if I should pick it up or not.

:hey: + 1. If I'm on, I'll be on with my boy, so we'll likely be bringing two to the fight most days.

I just downloaded Borderlands a week or so ago, and this is dead-on. I played it up to level 10 or something, and it was okay but I'm not sure if I'll go back to it or not. The difficulty level doesn't work very well IMO -- everything I've done so far was either too easy and boring or impossibly hard.

Yup, I agree. I can see how it would be fun to talk to people as you run around the world and blow people up but for whatever reason by yourself it loses some of its luster.

awesome! thanks for the info.So the Hunter's relic is the amulet we have been referring to.I wonder if the Sanctuary Loot Chest is early on in the game or later in the game.Damn I can't wait for this game.

I will do mostly solo but will also be doing co-op. I enjoy both although I prefer solo. Building a character slowly is one of the things I enjoy the most. Sometimes in co-op you can't take forever to make your choices as you are holding up other people.Once I get a character built well I will probably start joining co-op games.

I can't wait for Borderlands 2. My girlfriend asked me what more wub wub meant a week ago, so I fired up the original and proceeded to beat it in 3-4 person co-op for the 6th time. A week after saying she doesn't really like fps, she went and preordered Borderlands 2 and is doing her hair to doomsday.

CJ, JD, Barley, Manback.. I know you guys are getting this..right? I'm not sure who I'll be playing with through the first time besides dainty, maybe my brother, but maybe some of you if we are starting around the same time.

I'll be in :banned:

So you only get the 5th class if you pre-order? I'm not really liking how much stuff you get for pre-ordering. Generally I never pre-order, but given all that stuff it seems like you'd be missing out on a lot of the fun if you don't pre-order which sucks a lot.

As I understand it (this may not be correct), you can still get the 5th class when it is available by purchasing it as a normal DLC. I think by preordering, you basically get the DLC for free.I never preorder either but the $10 of plus the goodies was enough to entice me to do it this time.

Hey Eddie - how about updating the first post with list of PS3, 360 and Steam username/tags, etc? I know I'm way out of date with updating PS3 names from around these parts.

BTW - I'm driftinj on both PS3 and Steam

Meh, I did it because I'm anal like that but I didn't get anything special for it.

Damn, that sucks; I'm pretty anti-DLC in general, albeit the General Knoxx one from the first Borderlands was pretty awesome. I might as well pre-order then I guess.

What is everyone's thoughts on the Wii U launch info? Seems a bit steep ($349) right off the bat for something that will most likely be topped by Sony/Microsoft the following fall.

Would love to play online but committing is tough for me.

Instead I ordered NHL 13 for 49.99 and had a $15 credit
