Lucasarts Struggling to Make Games Amid Latest Turmoil

Kotaku reveals that 'Star Wars: Final Assault' near completion, but may never ship.

Kotuku is reporting through a mix of named and unnamed sources what has been true for years, namely that LucasArts is in turmoil and all games in development may be axed regardless of project status. What initially began as clandestine news that 'Star Wars 1313' had been shelved in the wake of Disney's acquisition of LucasArts, has blossomed into the latest madness engulfing LucasArts.

'Star War; First Assualt' is being developed as a 16 player, 8v8, downloadable shooter, and is reported as some kind of testing bed for an eventual 'Star Wars: Battlefront III.' Unlike the 'Battlefront' series, 'First Assault' is strictly a shooter and features no vehicles. According to the report, however, 'First Assault' is likely, along with everything else in development game-wise, to never be released.

LucasArts has spent the last ten years in turmoil during which project failures and layoffs have netted several debacles, with few smaller than the already completed, but ultimately cancelled 'Battlefront III.' Meanwhile Disney has shifted all development away from titles like 'Epic Mickey' and towards products like 'Disney Infinity.'

Kotuku cites the recent cancellation of the animated 'Clone Wars' and 'Star Wars Detours' as further evidence that all projects at LucasArts are on hold and primed for elimination in order to make room for the new trilogy and its off-shoots.

Ultimately, Kotaku concludes by saying that fans need to demand that LucasArts game projects continue, or else "it means the death of Star Wars as a storied game franchise."
SW1313 is canceled? Battlefront III is completed but canceled?WTF?

I'm just about to arm the ship in AC3. I'm trying to give this gane a chance, but I'm not liking it at all. Too much run here, short cutscene, run back. Is it about to get better?

If you have played around with the ship combat and have played at least one or two of the revolutionary war missions and it still hasn't grabbed you, it's time to bail.

Yeah, very sad. We talked about this back in February when they said good bye.http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=496856&st=7895
:bag: It was on their front page scrawl, I didn't see the date on the post.

it had no shot:
Cartoon Network — owned by Disney competitor, Time Warner — only licensed the show through its fifth year.

Giantbomb.

Some other XBLA games he may enjoy: Trials Evolution (or Trials HD), Mark of the Ninja, Fez, Geometry Wars 1 or 2, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Shadow Complex, NBA Jam: On Fire Edition, Pac-Man Championship Edition (and DX), etc. Remember that all XBLA games are able to download a free demo trial so you can try it before you buy it. Some allow for more trial time than others.
:blackdot:We need to try some of these. So far son has been very happy just playing the trial and demo versions of a bunch of games. N+ is a blast. Even my fiance likes that one. Any other 2D side-scrollers you guys would recommend? With the fun I'm having playing him in demo versions of just about every sport, I think we're going to end up with a bunch of games. So far used copies of NBA 2K12 and NCAA Football 13 have been purchased off ebay. He is fired up about their arrival.FIFA 13 may be next...

Saw there is an AoE II HD version coming out. Love that game.
There is a mod that lets you play it in any resolution you want. I got it to work and so did my buddy, but we had different versions and could never get it to work so we could play against each other. It would be nice if they updated it.

IMHO, AoE II: The Age of Kings is THE best RTS game ever.

It was pretty awesome. The sheer amount of different strategies that you could try against randoms was just crazy. Unfortunately, as you got better (and went up against better players) it pretty much just became about who could execute a faster FLUSH. (and I wasn't all that good at that against good players).

There was something oh so satisfying about stomping some noob with an early tower push. They crapped their pants the second your archers starting cutting down their lumberjacks. Archers on their woodies, tower on their gold, GG.

English longbows were overpowered and ruined the game with their incredible range.

If you were able to mass them, you're pretty much right. But then again, if you allowed your opponent to choose a slower moving CIV, advanced to castle age unmolested and start mass-producing their signature unit, you generally deserved to lose anyway.

I used to play against my brother (who was younger and not very good) and just castle up with the Teutons. I'd make a #### load of Teutonic Knights and just march right across the map to his base. He used to get so mad....

I am the guy who stays conservitive the first part of the games. MY buddy would always send guys in early for sneak attacks. We were never so good that we knew all the hotkeys and such so as long as you didn't get wiped out in the first 10 minutes, our games lasted awhile. While I did love the game - MP stressed me the F out. I never played anybody but friend because of the cheating online but even the gamers against friends..... My mind runs a lot faster then my hands/eyes/fingers can keep up with.

I never played multiplayer in AoE. I think I tried it once in Starcraft. Just not that fun (even winning).

The only multiplayer RTS I ever enjoyed was Myth, The Fallen Lords (and Myth II). Because it was *just* fighting and tactics - no base building, no new units, no resources, etc. What you started with is what you have to work with - now go fight.

Hadn't booted Starcraft up in a while, and apparently I have to download a 7 gigabyte "optimization" before I can even start downloading the new expansion. This is reason 794 why I am no longer a PC gamer.

I saw this, too. It just sat there at 0% forever so I quit. Not sure how this will affect the new one.

It estimates 20-60 minutes to complete but I've been downloading for several hours and its still only like 80% finished. Not sure if that's an issue with my computer or the servers or what.

Yep, Tomb Raider: Uncharted is pretty good.
I haven't played older Tomb Raider's, but I have played Uncharted. Does this play exactly like Uncharted, or is it more puzzle-like or more action-oriented?
It's a bit of both. I played for about two hours last night and it felt more like Uncharted (with just a small dash of Red Dead Redemption) but then I actually started raiding a tomb and I was tasked with a puzzle that I still haven't figured out.Looks great and the controls are tight.

Thx. The reviews look great. I just didn't want to get stuck with a game where a puzzle drags things to a grind.

Pretty sure that the 7 gigs includes the expansion. After downloading that, and forking over the dough, i was good to go on the expansion.

The puzzles aren't that hard. There's a button that gives you hints on what you can use in the world around you. The toughest puzzle I've seen so far wasn't due to the puzzle being hard to figure out, but the timing of the jumps.

Oh ok, then that's not so bad. It started downloading before I had purchased the expansion so I assumed it was something different.

That is the same reason I dread turning on my PS3.
Do your updates seem to get "stuck"? Where you have to try multiple times to get it to work?I used to have that problem until I found the trick. Turning off my media server setting fixed it straight away.
No, it's just I can't turn it on without having to do a download and update and restart every time. By the time it's done, I've moved on to something else. It's like having to manually recalibrate your satellite dish position every time you want to watch TV.Is there a way to set it to run updates every day at 4 am?

I think I can remember one, maybe two, updates in the past six months.

Yeah, I'm not sure what updates he's getting.

I feel like I'm coming to the end of Tomb Raider.

The boat is fixed and we're taking it upstream to see if we can destroy the body that's keeping the soul captive, so we can leave the island.
There's been a lot of twists in the story. I thought it was over long ago, only to keep going. That's a good thing. There's still a ton of collectibles and upgrades that I haven't gotten.

edit: Made to the Point of No Return... meaning that I won't be able to fast travel within the game from this point. I made a separate save in case I can't go back and start getting collectibles. I'll likely finish the game tonight, try multiplayer and start cheevo hunting. Currently at 75% complete.

Maybe he is confusing game specific updates with a PS3 update? There has not been a PS3 update since last October when 4.3 came out.

I tried to watch my Gremlins Dvd a few weeks ago. It told me I couldn't watch it until I updated. A month before that it was the same thing with Lost Boys. When I want my Coreys I want them now.

To me, it doesn't matter what the update is - it's the fact that it always needs an update for whatever I am trying to do.This wouldn't be so bad if it just updated quickly right from the screen I'm at (like xbox does). No, Sony says I can't do what I want to do, and makes me manually back out and make it update (where do you go to update it again??) Then I have to accept the EULA, download (slowly), then install (again, slowly). It's really annoying, especially compared w/ XBL (which is quick and intuitive).

That's not right. I'd contact customer support.

They really can't help me for what annoys me - I don't care about the update, or even if it's a little slow. But the last thing I want to do is back out of where I am and have to go hunt for the update setting (I always forget where it is, as I don't use the PS3 much). Updates are a fact of gaming - but do it right from the screen I'm in, don't make me accept an EULA for the millionth time, etc. The whole PS3 interface is just bad.
