Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (3 Viewers)

I'm looking forward to the FBG reviews of Bioshock. Never played the first two, but I've heard they're like an art deco version of Oblivion.
It's really nothing like Oblivion (other than both have the first-person POV). Oblivion is a big, open-world role-playing game. Bioshock is a linear shooter. Both are great, but different genres.
Yeah I wouldn't make the Oblivion comparison either.

I guess I was misinformed. Never been a big fan of straight out 1st person shooters. I never play the military games that are all the rave. In fact, the last shooter I played was Doom3.

You could probably compare the two on looks. The graphics are great in both and both create some very visually interesting worlds but that is where any similarity ends.

Pretty jazzed for Bioshock Infinity. Loved the first 2 games, the first is in my top 5 of all time. Just thinking about it makes me want to rebuy 1 and play again.
What game is that?Fyi its bioshock infinite and i thought i heard you get bioshock 1 for free when you buy it
Autocorrect sucks. :) Thanks for that tidbit, I did not realize it came with the first game. Is that PS3, xbox or PC?

I don't play shooters either, at all. But I loved both Bioshocks. I definitely wouldn't refer to them as "straight out 1st person shooters."

Broke down and bought the original Bioshock after reading this thread. Been loving it so far, but am having zero luck getting past this first Big Daddy. I can zap it but as soon as I open fire it just kicks my ###. I've managed to dodge a few of the bull rushes but can't open enough distance to repeat the process. Wearing me out.
stick with it. If memory serves the first one is actually one of the harder ones in the game.
Definitely one of the hardest basically because you have very little plasmids and weapons.
That's my problem. No money left, only two Eve hypos, two electro-bucks or whatever, must have blown up all the gas cylinders - don't see any, turret is dead. I'm basically going mano-a-roboto with a pistol full of AP rounds. Had to give up the fire hands plasmid to get telekinesis, so I can't set it on fire. Can't even visit that one section of the lab with the ice in front of it.Think I'm going to have to go back to an old save and try again, which is frustrating.
the damage you do to the Big Daddies carries over every time you reload from a Vita Chamber. So itll be a war of attrition until you eventually defeat it.
THAT was the question I meant to ask earlier. Thanks, I'll just take my lumps then. :boxing:

This is true.
Am I correct in understanding that only the PS3 version gives you the original Bioshock and the Xbox does not? If so, its an easy choice for me - this game looks AWESOME.

Finished episode 2 & 3 this weekend in The Walking DeadDefinitely need to play through the game again making different choices but these were top notch games. More games need to come out like this. Would not mind seeing a Zelda or Mario or Final Fantasy game encompass this method. Pretty darn fun stuff.
This is going to be part of the XBox Live Spring sale that starts tomorrow.Episode 1 is free, the rest are 200 points each (50% off).

I played Episode 1 after the last sale. It would all have to be free for me to play another one. It just wasn't for me.

Sounds like I'll be picking that up sooner than I thought.

Anybody play the new God of War yet? I have to temper my expectations compared to the other titles, but the reviews look pretty good.
Just got home from a week overseas and it arrived. 6 year old and I are debating opening it up vs continuing with ME2 ...leaning towards me
Still sitting in plastic. Anybody played it yet?
I love the God of War series, I don't have lots of time to play games either because of work and kids, but I an finding spare time to play the new God of War. I'm about 4 hours in, if you like the previous games you'll like this one too. I don't want to say it's more of the same but it kind of is, however I just love to relax and this game does that for me. Gameplay is good, graphics are probably some of the best that PS3 will ever have, story is ok I guess, it's more about the action, crazy bosses (huge), and total gore and destruction. Recommended if you like the rest of the series...

Adding about God of War, I would wait for a price drop I guess, $60 is too much. I am part of the Best Buy gamer club so I got $20 in reward certs for preorder and then a bonus $5...for me I usually get games at the $20-$25 range but wanted this bad enough to pay $40. Side note my preorder bonus code for multi-player weapon didn't work, and I have yet to even play the new multi-player.

Yes. Unless you're trying to get the achievement for never dying, you can beat a big daddy using only the wrench. Btw- to get the no vita chamber achievement - you MUST have the vita chambers turned off in the options. There is also a glitch or predisposed event you have to trigger to get the option to even appear in the first place. Somebody else might remember better then I.
It wasn't in the original game. They added it as part of an update later. That's why there's 1100 gamer score for it.

Not a fan of the God of War franchise, but if you like button-mashers, you'll definitely like it. There's no question that it has awesome production value.Just a quick note, though, that this game is completely inappropriate for a 6 year old.Edit: I haven't played the new one, but if it's anything at all like the others it's going to feature an extreme amount of blood, gore, and sadistic violence, along with lots of gratuitous nudity and probably a QTE sex scene.

About God of War, I agree that it isn't for young children, about 30 minutes in there was a bunch of nudity and some of the kills are downright nasty. For adults in a good way, it's actually quite awesome. I don't let my 6yr old watch, play it after he's in bed/school, and before the 1 yr old is awake or napping.

For those that care I recommend the ESRB website to check if stuff is ok for your kids. There is a wide range of stuff that falls under Mature and some is actually not too bad and some is way bad. But they detail each game out there so you know exactly what you are getting.

My 6 year old wants to watch me play. He's the middle child and is used to hanging with his 9 yr old brother. Still...this is more great info. He can stick to Skylanders.eta--he snuck down last year and watched me play GOW3. It was not my Parent of the Year moment, :bag: but now he wants to watch this. Dad  will say no.

Unless you dont mind him watching a bunch of naked women carressing eachother and making out or splitting enemies in half

Anyone played The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct yet? Trying to decide if it's worth the drive to rent it.
I don't really play too many Xbox games outside of sports games, but my wife randomly bought Walking Dead: Survival Instinct because she is a big Walking Dead fan. I've only played it for a couple hours, but I agree with what has been said in the negative reviews and SlaX's earlier comments about the game. I find the zombie combat very awkward and poorly designed, and it seems like the missions tend to be overly tedious to the extent that it can quickly become boring. I found it frustrating that you had to restart the entire level each time you died because you ended up having to re-do all of these tedious tasks with intermittent awkward hand-to-hand zombie slap fights, which felt like more of a hassle rather than a fun mission. I still really haven't played it that much, but I can't say I'm too eager to start the game back up again.

All of these overwhelmingly positive reviews are making me wait a week to buy it, despite loving the first two games. This is the first time I've ever seen such universal praise for a game, its just too sketchy.

Skyrim was universally praised just to pick a recent game.

Tomb Raider is $42 today at Amazon.

In a related note, Square Enix announced a massive restructuring today, which included the dismissal of president Yoichi Wada, in part because titles like Hitman: Absolution and Tomb Raider failed to meet internal projections. This after TR has already sold 3.4 million copies - not including digital downloads.

How many did they expect to sell. :loco:

I followed Skyrim even more closely than infinite, granted I was much more interested in infinite when it was originally supposed to be released. Every review for Skyrim was not 10/10, nor was there absolutely no negative comments - such is the case with infinite so far.Hilariously enough the only 9/10 I've found has been from IGN.Also a little bummed that Infinite breaks our worlds apart, in Bioshock 1 and 2 it was possible for them to have taken place in our universe, but with infinite that is not the case.

Here are a couple that are so-so:
Edge (90/100): "Sadly, as the combat opens up, the story begins to slowly unravel. There's no golf club moment, no singular twist around which the tale turns. Instead, Infinite provides a series of revelations that have you replaying earlier sections with a more enlightened, inquisitive eye."

VideoGamer (80/100): "It is fascinating, and also boring. It is important, yet forgettable. Its world is enticing and unappealing. It attempts to move things forward, yet is in places stuck in the past. For a game that has the potential to open the franchise up to a multitude of different ideas and interpretations, BioShock Infinite can feel curiously limited."
Sounds like they're being contrarian just to be contrarian.

You do realize the original Bioshock actually has a HIGHER Metacritic score, right? (Original - 96, Infinite - 95) Was that one too universally praised too?

This is the sad thing about video games - it seems like you need ridiculously massive sales to make it worthwhile.

Too often lately, the publishers will lay down ridiculous expectations on these games. I read that was one of the reasons for former-CEO of EA, John Riccitiello, stepping down. They just couldn't meet any of the expectations they set for the investors.

Bought Gears of War: Judgment the other day. First game purchase in awhile.

While I was at the store (Gamestop <_< ), I hoped to find a relatively cheap used copy of Assassin's Creed 3. $55. . The game has been out for 5 months and used copies are still selling just $5 off of full retail? WTF?

I'm doing my best to hold out on Bioshock Infinite for a few months for a slight price drop. I don't know how long I'll be able to make it, though.
