Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (3 Viewers)

Just finished up Saints Row III - really liked it. Got a little repetitive near the end, but I really liked how there was always something to do with minimal travel filler and very short cutscenes.

Now starting Sleeping Dogs. (PS3)
Big fan of SR III fun and hilarious.

I can pick up a copy of Cruasder Kings II for about $17 via Amazon. Given I've liked Europa Universalis titles in the past (haven't got the new one), should I pull the trigger?
I never played the other one but Crusader Kings II is pretty good.
I pulled the trigger. Did you pick up any downloadable content? I'm thinking of getting The Old Gods add on - always fun to go a Viking.
I haven't yet. I have just been slowly working the main game. Trying to get my head around all the little rules of succession and stuff like that, A very different genre for me. I usually play FPS and large world RPG games.
I have all the DLCs except sons of abraham. The must get DLCs are Old Gods and the Rome on as it adds retinues (standing armies). I have 700 hours in CK2. Get Sword of Islam if you want to play a muslim character and the Republics if you would like to play as a republic.
Is it worth playing the base game first for a while as a newbie?
That is what I did, but only because I am cheap and waited for the DLCs to all be 75% off. Either way won't effect your learning curve overly much, however some of the features in the DLCs are nice.

I'd like to check out D3. But Gamestop still wants $54.99 for the used PS3 version. That ain't happening, so I guess I'll wait. Still have Infinite and Far Cry 3 on deck.

What game should I buy!??!
Here is what is coming up so far as new titles for PS4

I have heard a LOT of good things about Infamous and it is supposed to visually impressive, Wolfenstein is rapidly moving up my buy chart.

Final Fantasy has the open beta now so you can try it out.

I've never played inFamous as this is my first PS since PS2. What type of game is it?
open world action game. kind of a cross between GTA (for the open world and collectible crap) and Assassin's Creed (since its all on foot and you climb around and junk).

BTW is locking up a feature of Fallout 3 on Xbox? I am feeling more confident with the game and decided to start wondering the Wasteland a bit. Killed some guys, got some cool loot. Was just walking along and the game froze solid. Nothing I could do but turn it off. This isn't the first time either. Usually not a problem with older games as they are usually patched up the wazoo.
This was a constant problem in the original Fallout 3 on both xbox and ps3. It was improved on the game of the year edition but still froze from time to time.

Just save a lot.
Definitely save a lot. Not only because of freezes and glitches, but because if you make one mistake you have to live with it.

Click on the link in the post and it will take you to the IGN Page for Infamous Second Son. There is a video tab where you can watch trailers, reviews and gameplay and take a look at it.

I've never played inFamous as this is my first PS since PS2. What type of game is it?
Open-world action game. Your character is a super hero who can climb buildings and shoot lightning out of his hands and stuff. It plays mainly like a TPS, and you'll find that many of your powers roughly correspond to "handgun," "sniper rifle," "grenade," etc. That's not a criticism, just a description. There's a karma system where if you make good decisions your powers level up in a particular way whereas if you make evil decisions they level up differently.

The original inFamous was okay but pretty repetitive. inFamous 2 was quite a bit better to the point that I thought it was pretty seriously underrated. The main problem with each is that the story was kind of dumb, at best, and the main character was hard to like, but inFamouns 2 was a pretty-looking like with very good gameplay, so I was willing to overlook its dramatic shortcomings. Rebooting this thing from scratch was a good idea. Hopefully they do a better job with the writing and voice acting this time around.

I've waited a while before buying inFamous 1 and I got inFamous 2 for free on PS+. I'll probably buy the new one right off the bat due to the relative lack of new games to play. I haven't bought a title since AC4 back in early December.

i thought infamous was much better than i2. If anything i thought the second one was more repetitive.

I'd like to check out D3. But Gamestop still wants $54.99 for the used PS3 version. That ain't happening, so I guess I'll wait.
If price is an issue, the used PS3 Diablo 3's go for roughly mid 30's on ebay, including shippinghttp://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&LH_Complete=1&LH_Sold=1&_nkw=diablo+3+ps3&_dcat=139973&rt=nc&LH_ItemCondition=4
Oh yea, could go that route.
Wish I had known you were interested, I just sold mine a little while ago.

I always wondered why we did not have a swap shop for games setup here in the ffa.

That's how I got Infinite. Believe the swap was set up in this thread.

So tell me about World of Tanks. Apparently I can get it for free for my 360 with Gold. I checked out some of the tutorials and it seemed there was some level you could pay for. Is anyone playing? It looks fun I assume it's all online action basically?

Finished the Last of Us last night. The wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

We just picked up a PS3 last week any other must play games on this system? We have had a 360 the whole last gen so most multi plats we have played.

It's a pretty fun little time killer. It's like any "freemium" game...you can definitely level your tanks up much faster if you're willing to pay, but I haven't seen that it's necessary to do so. I haven't paid a dime and I don't feel like I'm being outclassed by a bunch of overpowered competition. I will say this though...beware of the tanks with the triangle icons, the tank destroyers...they definitely live up to their name. They are basically the snipers of the tank world and can reach out a long way to kill you.

One other thing that's nice about this game is if you get killed in a match, you can immediately go load one of your other tanks into a new match without forfeiting the points from match you're sitting dead in. They will automatically credit you when the other match ends. You just can't use the dead tank until its match is over.

So do you get randomly matched with a team or do you have to have one?

Uncharted (all 3 are good but 2 is clearly the best)

I've only played random matches. I imagine you can go in with friends, I just haven't had the opportunity to do so so I don't know how to. When my tanks were the basic "beginner" types, I would pretty much only get put into matches with 6-8 per side. Now that I've done a bit of leveling up, I'm always in matches with 15 tanks per side.

the Uncharted series (made by the same developer) is the only must play IMO. Infamous and the GOW series are OK (B- type stuff) if you are into open world games and button mashing, respectively.

OK. Well I have so many games going right now I am loath to add another one. Still I have to admit it does look cool. So maybe I mean it's free after all.

D3 trip report.

Started a new barbarian on hard difficulty. Got up to killing the Skeleton King and I was level 19, found a bunch of rares and Skellie dropped two legendaries.

Loot upgrade indeed.

So I finally fired up Dark Souls.......Pyromancer master key as my first gift.

Wow.....just wow. WTF took me so long to finally getting around to playing this game. I am hooked. Over the next 6 months......I will no doubt be obsessed with this game.

Then I am going to want to go and play Demons Souls at some point I am sure. And by then Dark Souls II will be in the discount bin. But in any case....the game is great. Brutally hard if you do not plan well. I am exploiring a lot....and just going with it.

Superb game.

9.5/10 and I am only several hours in.

The first one isn't the greatest. The gameplay is kind of clunky. I suggest playing it though. Just put the difficulty to "easy".

One of my proudest moments in gaming was beating Uncharted 1 on crushing mode (easy, normal, hard and crushing is the order). That was really difficult in a couple of areas especially when my skills are so low with shooters.

Thanks - I guess I'll just wait for Steam to let me know.

Any good tutorial sites you can recommend? I know it wasn't until I found some decent in depth tutorial material (so that I wasn't mainly clueless) that I could really enjoy Europa Universalis and it seems like there's a similar depth to Crusader Kings II.

Please feel free to ask any questions you have and post in the dark souls thread.

It's my favorite game of all time.

:goodposting: My two kids love it.
I personally haven't played it, had a $20 Gamestop giftcard, bought it for my 4 year old grandson, who we have temporary custody of... and HE just loves it. Been told, I will most likely have to help him with the upgrades he earns.

I frequented the boards and read everything.

Elder Scrolls Beta this weekend again. Looks like people with previous invites can invite unlimited others.

Anybody want one?

I've been playing Chivalry medieval warfare this weekend. This game is an absolute blast. First mp game I've enjoyed in a while.
I envy you so bad- that game looks promising.
I must have picked it up in a sale because I wouldn't have paid its current price without knowing anything about it. It's a good time though
Had a moment last night in a Free for all Death match where two guys were engaged in combat with each other and I ran up and removed both their heads with one swing. Awesome.

Also had a great gaming moment where the objective was to push a primitive bomb to the city gate. We were stalled out forever with the opposing team doing a good job of even preventing us from getting close to the cart.. With about a minute left in the game, I managed to hack down 4 defenders, reach the cart and fight off one more defender while pushing it the last couple feet to the gate with seconds left in the match. The explosion threw me a few hundred feet and killed me but what a way to go...
Those style games - that and there is another one -Mount n Blade - along with the upcoming Ultima Online remake have me strongly considering building a PC.
oooo. have to google this.

LOVED the first incarnation. Was just thinking about it the other day.

Finally think I am getting the hang of Dragon Age: Origins (PC). The skill combinations are so diverse that it takes a lot of experience to know which spells and attacks to use to maximize the combat efficiency of a party. I still have so much to learn but at least it is starting to slow down a bit.

I can see why people do so many playthroughs, it is going to take at least one full playthrough just to get a firm understanding of combat. I am certain that I will want to play again because I know I will be able to do it so much better.

Valve launches Steam Family Sharing for All Users

Steam has rolled out its Family Sharing feature to all users today following its beta release. As the name implies, it allows users to share their game libraries with others.

To enable the feature, first set up Steam Guard if you haven't done so already and go to Steam > Settings > Family. From here, you can authorize your computer and users to share. A maximum of 10 devices can be authorized simultaneously for up to five separate accounts.

Valve has specifics about Family Sharing over here, if you'd like to read up on the literature.

Nice. My son would love that with my library.

It appears that two people can't access the same library at once, but it should be nice for trying out games or playing during times when your "family member" isn't online. Perhaps we can get some sharing set up here too. I have a few people that I know here that I'll see if they want to set up sharing with first. Then the rest of the spots, I'll open to the highest bidder.

Bah. From reading more into it, it sounds like to authorize a computer, you have to log into it yourself. Which would mean that I would have to give up my username/password to others to log into their computer - and that's not gonna happen.

They go on sale every 3-4 months generally. Though they were recently on sale so it may be a while.

I frequented the boards and read everything.
Gracias. I've got some rainy day reading to do.
