Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (6 Viewers)

Witcher 3 looks awesome.
It does look really good.
Very excited about this one. It is going to test the limits of my "Always wait on new games until they hit the sales" philosophy.
Yeah I may break my sale rule.
This game may have me buying a new pc. Mine will run it, but it won't look as amazing as those previews. Or just a video card upgrade if the rest of my hw still looks good.

Incredibly excited for this and DA:3. Both keep looking amazing.

the trailer looks good, are the first two in the series worth checking out and will it be as enjoyable to jump into this game without any background in the lore in the books or the first two games? realizing of course the game isn't out yet so looking for opinions since the trailer starts with "last of the trilogy" or something like that. tia. another open world game so maybe some background will make it at least easier in some ways i would imagine.
The first two aren't really open world games. The first one is just OK and kind of dated now. Witcher 2 was fantastic and highly recommended. would probably recommend starting there unless you are a completionist.
I would say to definitely play 2 as it is a very good game. It has a ton of back story and doesn't really relate to the first one other than returning characters.

The first one starts off incredibly poorly, the translation of the dialogue from Polish to English was godawful and the whole first chapter was just mediocre, however the second & third chapters don't suffer from those problems and were really quite excellent story telling. You can definitely pass on it but I think it offers some pretty unique game play experiences.

Finally getting around to Assassin's Creed 2.

It's okay, I guess.
Have you ever played any of the others?

AC2 was probably one of my favorite games the first time I played it. Part of it was just how much it was improved over AC.
No. I started the first one but hated the controls almost immediately, so I stopped.
Yeah, I did the same thing with the first, but I saw AC2 on a really good sale at some point, so I got that and then decided to take another run at 1, still didn't like it, but then loved 2. Thought the controls were vastly improved, and there was a much more enjoyable, somewhat less repetitive storyline.

I was more curious if you had played 3 or 4 then decided to go back to 2.

My buys on release franchises are CIV, Fallout, Elder Scrolls. Witcher isn't quite there yet for me.
Oh yeah, Elder Scrolls I don't wait.

All the Crusader Kings II stuff is on sale right now on steam.

I'm really enjoying that game - I only started playing it a few months ago and I cringe when I get the hours played report.
Ive been avoiding this game because I know I can go into a sleepless hole for days with something like this. 10 years ago, I would have played this game for a month straight.
What kind of game is it, RTS? Turn based strategy?
Looks like turn based that allows you to manipulate EVERYTHING. You can position nephews in power to over throw neighboring territories. Marry off nieces to gain favor. Raise kids to be heirs or neglect them and watch them grow and plot your demise. Im barely scratching the surface. Those that played could explain it better.
You find yourself wishing you could have a little scorecard in real life that would display all the genetic traits and skills of potential spouses for your kids before you arrange their marriages.

I think I'll stick with it. It's interesting enough. I have Brotherhood and Black Flag on the shelf too.

In FO3, does ammo start to become more abundant as you get deeper into things?

I am constantly out.

I was in the National Archive yesterday with no health and barely any ammo. Had to resort to luring the Super Mutants into elaborate frag mine traps.

Oh, and I've never sought out a restroom in a game before like I did yesterday. "There's gotta be a ####ter in this place somewhere..."

I have thousands of rounds. I have so many mines, grenades, etc. I started storing them. God help Megaton if someone starts a fire or something. Now there are some things that are harder to find. 44 rounds for instance. But if you have The Pitt DLC when you finish that you get to use their ammo press to make whatever you want from other ammo. I go there every so often with a couple of thousand 10 mm rounds and make a bunch of 44.

I guess I have to check out The Pitt DLC then.

I do have about a billion hunting rifle rounds.

I really enjoyed AC2, Brotherhood & Revelations but agree that the controls can be very frustrating. Even after far more hours invested than I will ever admit to I would still inadvertently run my character up an unclimbable wall repeatedly causing me to desync during a chase mission. Otherwise I thought the controls were pretty solid.

The overall look, style and story telling make AC2 a top tier game for me. I think if I could have one ability from a game character it might be an Ezio's ability to effortlessly scale almost any wall. I never get tired of that.

Early in the game (levels 1-15) ammo needs to be economized, and for me that's part of the fun of the game.

When I go out, I take 1 heavy weapon (usually a Fat Man), a sniper rifle, and one 'go to' gun. The 'go to' changes depending on my ammo supplies. Sometimes it's the .44 magnum or (later) Lincoln Repeater, sometimes it's a 10mm submachine gun, and in real desperate times it's a .32 pistol or hunting rifle.

I can usually get by with switching between .44 ammo guns and 10mm ammo guns.

ETA: always buy every merchant's ammo stock for guns you use. Even if I'm toting a submachine gun, I'll buy all of a merch's .44 rounds just to save.

Also, when looting, always take all the ammo, even cruddy .32 rounds. Ammo weighs nothing and what you don't use, you can sell.

It's pretty short and easy really. There are a couple of unique weapons but the press is the best thing about IMO.

If you get the hunting rifle from Republic of Dave, Ol' Painless, it's pretty good. Takes a lot longer to break than a regular hunting rifle. Has zero spread meaning you usually hit 100% even outside of VATS. Lincoln's repeater is my personal favorite though.

quesiton on Titanfall, is it only online play, or cold my son and i load it up fill a board with computer bgs and blow the crap out of them?

thought so, prolly gonna hold off then

we just worked our way through halo 4, first real gaming i have let him do. We'll probably work through the old ones. not sure i want him all in on online shooter games yet

So you just get dropped into the middle of mayhem and hope you can figure it out before some 16 year old Korean kid who hasn't slept in 36 hours hopped up Mountain Dew and Pop Rocks punches your ticket?

Are there any objectives, story based missions or training of any kind?

yeah, don;t sound like my cup of tea

FO3 is definitely worth the time. It does start slow. And the graphics I have lamented on here as well. Still in the end I find myself engaged in the quests like they are little mini movies or books.

There is training and there are objective based missions. There is a story based "campaign" which basically adds a narrative to a series of MP objective matches.

The matchmaking system takes into account your experience so you aren't thrown into the deepest of the deep ends right away, but it takes some time to get competent relative to other players. There are also always a bunch of bots running around that even noobs can kill that keep you from feeling like a complete failure while you learn the ropes.

Yeah just talking about getting back in and I can't wait. I think I am going to go completionist and finish up 3 then go back to Vegas.

Sidney got herself killed a minute after joining me. It was nice to get her gun as a consolation prize.

Cool, thanks for the info.

Are there minimum size matches? Looks like 6v6 is the max.

I'm extremely skeptical of buying another Battlefield and/or DICE title at launch. I don't care if it's Hardline (a different developer, I know) or Battlefront. I'm going to at least wait a day or two next time.

Battlefield Hardline Beta is going to be available on PS4 and PC today.
Have to admit, even though I've been hard on the announcement, the demo got me stoked. Damn my Battlefield loving self. Already signed up, but Origin is acting up.
Really? Looked like a reskin of the past two games
I think it was exactly a reskin of Battlefield 4. I am a fan of the series, but I'm a bit burnt out. I'll probably play the beta and be done with it. Who knows. I don't really have any new games on deck for the rest of the year. But that's probably a good thing as I attempt to chip away at my massive backlog.

Every gametype is 6v6 but matchmaking will sometimes start the game as low as 3v3.

ETA: The NPCs out on the field do make it a much less frustrating game to play if you don't have the reflexes of a 13 year old. When I play Call of Duty it's super frustrating and I feel like I'm the worst Call of Duty player in the world. When I play Titanfall I feel like I'm a badass that dominates all of XBL. I was surprised when I looked the other day and realized that my K/D vs other players isn't THAT much higher in Titanfall than it is in Ghosts.

ETA2: Another nice thing about Titanfall over games like Call of Duty is that it has those little meta-games during combat that allow you to hold your own against someone with much better reflexes than you. It's sort of like Gears in that way and that's something I really miss in games like CoD and Battlefield.

Im gonna have to be "in" on that from jump street. Way too much goodness potential.
That's the frustrating part. I'm not even an FPS fan, and even I have to admit that these games are completely awesome when they work. Which makes it that much more irritating when they're broken at launch, like BF4 was. So much potential. So much let-down.

Hell the open Beta is a no risk test drive, I attempt to try everything, you never know when you are gonna find that one you would NEVER have bought and then you try it free and it becomes one of your all time faves.

This looks awesome except that you know that it's going to turn into a complete cluster-#### with randoms: http://n4g.com/news/1526533/rainbow-six-siege-e3-trailer
Interesting. The gameplay looks excellent but that scenario felt very scripted. I agree that when you are thrown together with random jokers it will turn into a mess. It kind of compels you to have a solid and dedicated group of six who are willing to go full co-op role play instead of trying wannabe Rambos.

I tried playing Ghosts after playing Titanfall and it felt like the most boring thing ever. I don't think I can ever go back to Call of Duty unless it's totally different, which this one didn't appear to be.
Activision should be really scared that Titanfall is going multi platform in the future.

Also the "story" online mode has generally much less skilled players than standard mode. You will be stomped at the start but the learning curve isn't that tough and the AI fodder make the game much better for new people because they can help the team. Also playing the objective can gain big points so you do to have to always slay everything. My girlfriend usually holds her own with objective points and helps the team when she is not that great at fps aiming.
