Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (5 Viewers)

damn you guys. been really fighting the urge to start another round of FO3. game sucks so much time out of me at night.

I havent been able to play any DL content since I have an old 360 w/o a harddrive. I have a flash drive now- I assume it will work to put it on that?
No you can't. That's the problem I ran into. The DLC for FO3 will not work on a flash drive. It needs a hard drive. I have the GotY edition and it had a second sisk that II never knew what it was for and read that it had all the DLC's on it and I needed to download them so that they become part of the game. Tried it two nights ago. Doesn't work. I even erased my entire GTA-V saved info from the flash and the internal drive thinking it was a space issue and still nothing. Read online that FO3 and a few other games need an atual hard drive to download into and they won't accept a flash unless you do some massive hacker stuff to yoru XBox that I am in no mood to try. This is why I've changed my focus again and am now just trying to explore everywhere I possibly can while the final mission is sitting there ready for me to except. Because once I do that, it is my understanding, without the DLC already loaded the game will end without my ability to stop it once I beat that final mission. And the level of my fury if that happened before I managed to do everything in the game would be measurable.
:sadbanana:

that is stupid. I assume same goes for New Vegas too? Have both Game of the Year editions sitting here and haven't been able to play either.

haven't been following this thread. you guys like 3 more than vegas?

I liked the ability to custom weapons and that towns turn on you, etc, but always kept going back to DC. don't think I came close to getting through everything. I know I got frustratingly lost in a couple vaults.

is there going to be another fallout anytime soon?

I haven't even thought about getting New Vegas yet. I'm guessing that where I am right now is probably less than half of all of the FO3 game potential. While I am at the end of the main quest except for the final mission, I have only found about 30ish areas, haven't even visited probably 10 of them yet, haven't spent muh time if at all in the subways if I can avoid it so I still have a lot to do down there and then all the DLC's and that's after seeing every part of the map and finishing probably another 10 or so side quests that I haven't even found yet.

I haven't made any weapons. Stuff like that doesn'r really intrigue me that much. If I have to make one for the story I will but other than that I can't envision myself roaming the wasteland for parts for build a certain weapon when I have so many real weapons at my Megaton house - I could arm the United States Marines at this point. I haven't even picked anyone's pocket yet. I think I'm being too much of a goody two shoes.

So far I like 3 better but I haven't gotten to Vegas yet and I understand that's when it really picks up. I am going to hang with 3 until I finish all locations then go back and redo Vegas from the beginning.

On the new game they are being extremely tight lipped.

I don't make weapons either really. I made the railroad spike gun and some nuka grenades but it's not my thing. I have only picked two pockets for the special keys. I always play good. I just can't do the evil character thing.

I guess I just don't use all that stuff. Like YF23 I could set up a small army with the stuff in my Megaton house. I have a lot of bottlecap mines stored there. While I love grenades I always forget about the mines and I just end up storing them.

Why would you want to use a bottle cap mine? Bottle caps are money... when you make them into a mine don't you blow them up and lose money?

Yeah but the time will come when you don't care. I think I am currently sitting on around 30k bottlecaps.
I hover around 2000. I really have a lot more to do I guess
Just starts to pile up on you. I have the same "problem" in all these type of games. A house or two, maybe three, full of valuable/deadly objects and more money than I can ever spend. I am a pack rat.

New Vegas is the same way, the final story mission ends the game. It does do a better jib of warning you that it's a point of no return.

As far as better, just depends. a lot of people (myself included) in this thread liked it better. There are more branching storylines (make one decision and it will close off the opportunity to do certain missions unless you start over or keep an earlier save.) Companions have more depth (each has a loyalty mission with good storylines.) I thought the story and environment was a lot more fun too as compared to FO3. Plus my favorite weapon, the Euclid's C-finder.

Making weapons is good and bad, some are useless (dart gun), others are the most powerful in the game (nuka grenades or bottlecap mines.) I preferred using the unique weapons like the Lincoln Repeater or A3-21's Plasma Rifle.

Lincoln's Repeater is about my favorite.

so what games are compareable to fallout? about all i play is fallout, bioshock, and sports games.

also us it worth playing the first two on pc?

I am a real estate and weapons/armor/potions tycoon on Skyrim. It's absurd!

PC gives you a ton of options that consoles don't. To me Fallout is Skyrim with guns. If you like Fallout and you don't mind a little magic in the game I would look into Elder Scrolls.

Same here. I forget right now how many houses I have in Skyrim but they are all full.

I mean you have to have a full set of every kind of armor, just in case right?
This is a small pet peeve of mine. I still haven't done the armor training. Every time I remember to go find the guy I can't find him and I get bored walking around. So I have a ton of armor I can't use. Instead I have a billion sets of Talon armor that suits me just fine.

I actually find myself basically clothes shopping in the game a bit. Kill a bunch of people. Get their clothes. Oops, carrying too much, time to get the bags back home to put them away so I can go back out..... shopping.

I wore Talon Armor for a long time. Once you do the Anchorage DLC you get a set of armor that never seems to need to be repaired. But you have to do the power armor training to wear it of course.

are all the elder scrolls good?

I think I passed them over out of fear of being to dungeons and dragony.

Well I really liked Oblivion but I know some didn't as some of the missions were kind of repetitive. I love Skyrim and other than one or two minor glitches it seems to be universally well liked. Can't speak to any of the earlier ones. I didn't find them too D&D.

Morrowind was fantastic but you'll want to mod it to the point where it can still hold up today.

Oblivion's enemy scaling sucked ### and ruined the game for me, but i'm pretty sure you could mod that out.

LOL so true. I am currently wearing a fully enchanted Glass Armor set. I am a High Elf Destruction Mage with one handed weapons as well. Also a master of alchemy.

Still on my very first and only character build, 250 hours (still not finished with the main story line LOL) in. The game is just a joy as I can always take a few month off...then pop it in and go adventuring. Currently still doing the Dark Brotherhood quest line.

After I complete that I will finish off the main story and attack the Dragonborn and Dawn Guard DLC. Then I will create a brand new character and have at it in a totally different way.

Morrowind was really really deep. I played it on the original XBOX so the load times were painful and I had no modding.

Oblivion was great till I realized the lousy leveling system. Ruined it for me as well.

Skyrim is the master jedi of the Elder Scrolls games for me.

I have about 125 hours on my current Skyrim character. Yeah and not finished main line. He does a bit of everything. I like to think of him as a Battlemage type but he is pretty tankish. I am really, really hard to kill at this point. I just love going into well anywhere and knowing I am coming out on top. Even Dragons are getting pretty easy at this point. Shouts add a lot.

I am at that spot. Lyons said he was in the bailey...but can't find that portion of the fortress for some reason. I have been in A ring, B ring and the middle open area and can't figure out where the gunney is located.

I had a hard time finding him to. I think I found him in the lab.
he was in the courtyard, near the trainees for me. But it took me forever to find him there.

Crap, I was looking for someplace called the bailey....wasn't going up to each individual. :bag:

"Bailey" is the courtyard, essentially. But the dude does wander. He wasn't there the first few times I looked.

I will wander around there tonight. I was just progressing the story to get the training. I somehow screwed up and didn't get the house in Megaton so I am carrying around the power armor I got...I think on the alien ship....and it takes up a lot of my space. Had to drop some 1000+ cap stuff so I could keep lugging that around. I know there are other places to get houses from what NCC has said so looking out for that also.

You get a house in tenpenny tower at some point - I don't have it yet.

There are also good places to leave things - I prefer the top of the Washington Monument - there is a bed and I just have a ton of crap on the floor there to pick up if I need it and am in the area.

I remember NCC saying something about the top of the Monument but I wasn't really sure it would be safe there and I would hate to come back and it be gone.

I haven't found or been to tenpenny I don't think. May have to try to find that after I get the training tonight.

You have to be careful about putting things in containers that aren't in your house. Those can cycle on you. And sometimes laying things on the ground in the wrong spot can lead the game to say you are stealing them when you pick them back up. But I don't think that is the case in the monument. There are even dead bodies that seem to stay where they died and you can use those in a pinch. But again you have to be real careful because if you pick the wrong body it will disappear with your stuff.

sorry, but two more questions:

would you suggest buying these games for pc, and if so, do I need a console type controller?

saw an elder scrolls pack for pc on Amazon for $40 that had skyrim, oblivion, and morrowwind + add ons. also both fallouts for <$10 each with add ons. seems great, but don't know if controls are annoying if I am used to xbox.

damn you guys. been really fighting the urge to start another round of FO3. game sucks so much time out of me at night.

:sadbanana: that is stupid.

New Vegas is the same way, the final story mission ends the game. It does do a better jib of warning you that it's a point of no return. As far as better, just depends. a lot of people (myself included) in this thread liked it better. There are more branching storylines (make one decision and it will close off the opportunity to do certain missions unless you start over or keep an earlier save.) Companions have more depth (each has a loyalty mission with good storylines.) I thought the story and environment was a lot more fun too as compared to FO3. Plus my favorite weapon, the Euclid's C-finder.

Making weapons is good and bad, some are useless (dart gun), others are the most powerful in the game (nuka grenades or bottlecap mines.) I preferred using the unique weapons like the Lincoln Repeater or A3-21's Plasma Rifle.
not that I couldn't send him packing, but the sniper guy made the game too easy. I loved the guns you listed and also seemed like a couple made me get through the game too quickly.

meant to start again with it and explore more, but never did. kept going back to 3 for whatever reason.

are the expansion packs for new vegas any good?

probably should be called that

I would think so. I was wondering can't you add a hard drive or were there models that just don't have that option at all? Been so long since the early ones I don't recall. Love having the hard drive with mine.
don't think there is an option to add one. I don't do online stuff so didnt think I would ever need more than base model for my few saves. now with all the new games coming out that require 8gb to download or expansion packs not working i am rethinking that decision.

so what games are compareable to fallout? about all i play is fallout, bioshock, and sports games.

also us it worth playing the first two on pc?
PC gives you a ton of options that consoles don't. To me Fallout is Skyrim with guns. If you like Fallout and you don't mind a little magic in the game I would look into Elder Scrolls.
are all the elder scrolls good?

I think I passed them over out of fear of being to dungeons and dragony.
Well I really liked Oblivion but I know some didn't as some of the missions were kind of repetitive. I love Skyrim and other than one or two minor glitches it seems to be universally well liked. Can't speak to any of the earlier ones. I didn't find them too D&D.
The problem I had with Skyrim is that it isn't terribly difficult to level up and once you get to the mid/high 20s you are basically invincible. It's fun for awhile but gets a bit repetitive.

The plus side is that, for probably the first time in my gaming experience, it really encouraged me to truly role play. I have never taken a character through more than more than one primary mission set. I chose a class and stuck with it, no more master level fighter/mage/thief/assassins because it became boring being the biggest bad### in the room and knowing it. Once I finished a particular class story line I started over with a different class. I still have never finished the main story and I have over 200 hours invested (haven't played in a long time though, mostly because I got tired of doing the mandatory opening missions over and over). I personally liked Skyrim more than Fallout but that may be more because I came to Elder Scrolls first (I played the hell out of Oblivion, it's first game I ever truly started modding and once you get to that point you are in deep).
