Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to?

Dragon Age Origins is really good but like mentioned , isn't open world.

However , the story is A+ and if you like fairly straightforward old school RPGs, you'll like this.

Dragon Age Origins is probably my favorite RPG of the last 10 years or so. It's a micro-manage fantasy RPG, pause action, set some rounds of party commands, un-pause, and it's supposed to be much better on PC than on console. I personally think open world is a little on the overrated side, and prefer the heavily story driven RPG type gams that's why this is my favorite RPG.

DA:2 took away a lot of the micro-mange RPG aspects and made it more of an action oriented RPG and much more console friendly. I still enjoyed it, not as good as the first by a longshot, but a lot of people really didn't.

If you are interested in DA:3 coming out, there are a lot of reoccurring characters and world themes in these games that get set up in the initial games, but likely won't be required. 3 is a full open world, and is supposed to be a combination of the micro-manage and action RPG of the first two. Interested to see how it works out and feels.

You'd like Divinity Original Sin if you haven't partaken already. I'm having fun with it.

Yeah, I'll probably get that next summer during the steam sale, should be sub $10 at that point.

Man, I've been doing a good job running through games lately. Just finished up Max Payne 3 over the weekend. Really enjoyed that too, thought it was a great story and a ton of killing guys.

I'm sick of being in my office so I switched back to my living room with the PS3/360. Running some Lego Star Wars to kill time right, but probably looking to get Arkham: Origins at some point for a serious PS3 game. Then probably starting the Uncharted series as I've never actually played that.

I like shadows of mordor but its pretty much an exact replica of AC with the nemesis system added and Batman combat.
If it was that, I'd be happy, but for me, AC had far more to do and see, and a lot more variety.

I really liked Mordor for the first two or three times playing... then it just nosedived in terms of interest level. I want to like it.

I'm not sure whether I'm getting this for the XB1 or PS4... the facial imaging through the Kinect in the create-a-wrestler mode is a pretty neat selling point for me (I don't have the PS4).
From what I'm hearing. This feature didn't make it in this year, so don't let that be your deterrent.
Is that official yet? I thought this might be one of the reasons for the delay...

I'll post if I see anything official. I'll be sticking with last-gen, though, so it won't matter to me personally.

any "must have" games for PS4? I've resisted buying the PS4 so far, but I'm sure once the new Dragon Age hits, I'll pony up. anything else that shouldn't be missed?

NBA 2K15 is off the hook!!!!!!!

I am set for a long time on my PS4 with The Show 14, Madden 15 and NBA 2K15.

I picked up Alien Isolation for me and my son to enjoy and it will be a christmas gift for him. I wanted the Nostromo Edition with the original crew hence the pre-order.

I will pick up NHL 15 real cheap.

I will also do the same for The Evil Within.

The only other must have games for me for a while will be Far Cry 4 and Dragon Age 3...going to wait patiently as I have plenty of sports games to keep me busy for a long time plus plenty of titles on my PS3 I am playing through. So 19.99 price points for a bunch of these.

So far I'm liking the game, but I'm not getting deep into MyCareer or Association until the first roster update. 2K has confirmed a bug where all players in the draft class (after the first year forward) are only a 0-25 rating. (link) Obviously, this affects all portions of the game where there's an auto-draft involved. Patch for this will be in the first roster update. Any Association/MyCareer saves prior to the patch will still have the bug. The bug may only affect last-gen. I'm not sure. That didn't seem to be mentioned.

If it's up your alley, Shadow of Mordor is the best game on PS4 so far IMO. Playing the hell out of it while I wait for DA:I, and it's set the bar really high. First game I've played that REALLY feels next-gen.

What does modor compare too
AC + Arkham with the combat of Arkham. The best thing about the game is the Nemesis system. I have killed the same captain 5 times, each time he comes back remembers our previous encounters and is stronger. If an Uruk kills you he can get promoted and he'll remember beating you and will taunt you about it. Very very cool system.

In the spirit of the thread, I'm currently playing Driveclub. It's not quite an arcade racer but not a sim either -- people often describe it as "simcade."

I've enjoyed it a lot and I can see this being a game that will keep me occupied for a while, but this is the worst launch I've seen since BF4. I've been playing since Tuesday and have only been able to connect to the servers once for a couple of hours. The online speculation is that the gamecode itself DDOS's the servers by constantly trying to establish a connection even if cut off, which is kind of laughable if true.

They were supposed to release a PS+ version of Driveclub last week (India events/tracks only) but scratched that because of the server issues. That's too bad because I think a lot of people like me who are not hardcore racing fans would enjoy it, but at this point Sony/Evolution have completely screwed up the marketing for this title.

i love driving games. Going get the plus before I buy.I'm a lot more picky with my purchases now.

Played 3D Dot Game Heroes (aka Zelda 3D) with my daughter last night. Took awhile to get used to the graphics (she thought they were made of Legos) but it was fun after awhile. Biggest complaint is the confusing map - after beating the first boss I couldn't figure out where to go next and turned it off - will have to print off a map when I play it again.

That was half the fun with old school games. They didn't hold your hand to the next objective.

Anything further on this? I'm about to move on, as I just can't seem to get into it. It's one of those games that's great for the first few hours, but then you realize there's nothing more to it. I get no real sense of story, progression, etc. It's just mob-killing orcs, over and over and over again. And they are everywhere - every minute or so, you run into more, kill them in the same "Legolis on steroids" battle, and move on. That seems to be the entire game.
I played a little more this past weekend, but not much due to the flu. I finally progressed to the second area and have really just given up on the main quest. Legolis on steroids is a pretty good description. The Nemesis system I think is going to be used in some type or some fashion by other games moving forward, it is just that good. The rest of it really is just a whack an orc game.

Earlier I was asked about replayability. Meh I may revisit it at some point, but once I am done with it I will walk away from it for a while. The only depth to the game is the nemesis system and if you keep wiping out the captains and warchiefs it definitely become way too easy since they dont get a chance to level.

I would still probably give the game an upper 70 to 80 score, it does some things right, but it could have been so much more.
I would probably score it a little less (6.5/10), but I do agree, it does feel like a "could have been" game, and certain parts are truly excellent. The combat is really fun and engaging, but it gets old fast when it's essentially the same group of orcs over and over again (and the mobs are everywhere - you really can't explore without fighting a mob every minute or so). I could forgive that if it were more like Batman, where you had rooms/areas where you could stealth everyone, or AC, where you had a lot more to do (tombs, other story missions that mattered, etc).

I do think it broke some ground with the nemesis system and the "game within the game" movement of the enemy ranks - I am interested to see where that goes.
Sounds like a hold until the Steam winter sale

I've been playing Need for Speed Rivals via EA Access. Not the newest game, but pretty fun. My kids like watching me play.

My only nitpick - you can't pause the game. Literally. I mean, I've got a #### ton of kids, sometimes the #### hits the fan and I've got to take care of it. But there's no way to just pause mid-event. If I'm being chased by the cops that's it, I'm done. Pretty dumb.

Isn't it all online in real-time? If so, that makes sense of why you can't pause. Still sucks if you would rather play by yourself.

I set it to single player mode because people were annoying me with the voice chat. So basically there's no real reason for it. Meh.

Is the new AC going to have something like the ship battles from Blackflag? I enjoyed that more than I probably should've.

I don't think so, IV was awesome and the ship was the best part. The reason I am excited about Unity is that they seemed to have fixed the stealth issues as well as the ill timed chasing someone climb up a wall. You can also climb on angles. Lots of cool new things.

I played Evil Within a bit last night. I suck at games so I was dying a lot. More sneaking around than I am used to in games. It is quite a messed up game. Very bloody, very creepy, and looks great. Can't wait to play more when I have time after vacation.

I worry when games focus on one or two things too much. Mordor and its Nemesis system being a good example (from what I've read here). So times games will focus on doing something new and forget to just make the game fun.

anyone else playing 2k15? heard nothing but good things about it. Thinking about picking it up for PC
Best console basketball game ever made.

I have been playing NBA 2K11 for 4 years......this game is a worthy title to assume the crown from the legendary 2K11.

Basically it is 2K11 on the next gen....next visuals, next gen AI...it screams next gen sports gaming.

Friend has been talking it up. Don't think i'll be able to hold out until the price drops on steam.

Still waiting on the first roster update, but I'm enjoying playing through a single season while I wait. I don't care for the new Pro Stick controls. Having the right stick pass or shoot depending on how it was moved was really confusing. But at least 2k was smart enough to give an option to use legacy controls options.

Currently playing on Xbox 360, but considering buying for the PC when it drops to at least half price so I have a next-gen version. I've read that the new modes introduced there are well worth it.

Also for Todem (or anyone else), in case you missed it: IWATCHEDNBA2KTV (locker code for 1,000 VC - supposedly never expires but only a one-time use)

I don't think they are focusing on doing something new in AC, but fixing issues with the gameplay. Two of my biggest complaints with AC have always been that stealth is broken, which hinders your abilities in certain levels/missions that require it, and any chase mission since I always inadvertently run up a wall or column when I am trying to go around it.

The ship battles were fun but I'd really like to see someone make an entire game based on it, slowing it down with more realistic sailing and more micromanagement of crew and crew actions as well as advanced economics. A cross between AC and Pirates! with more realistic simming.

The individual people with AI and huge world (going into building and such) plus the 4 player story co op is what I'm worried about.

It's also one of the things I'm looking forward though.

It would be awesome if it they did that as a companion app. They could do a pretty good job with that concept. The management aspect of it anyways.

lol...oops forgot about those. I was just all excited that stealth may be fixed as well as climbing. Hope it's not like AC 3 where the ships sucked.

Some of the best games I've ever played, I got because it was offered free. Take Portal. I didn't have any interest in the concept, but it came free with Orange Box. Turns out that it was one of the best games of the last decade.

Most any game is worth having in your Steam library if it's free. You download it and if you don't like it, you delete it. If you aren't sure, you buy it (while it's free) and wait on installing it until when you're ready to play. Either way, you'll always own it.
