Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (2 Viewers)

IGN's Witcher 3 review was very interesting.

They considered the main story to be kind of average and yet the open world side stuff was so over the top good that they considered the entire game one of the best the genre has seen.

Loving MLB The Show '15. I normally go heavy on Road to the Show mode but the mode where you collect baseball cards and build a team is pretty brilliant as well.
50% of my gametime on The Show 15 has been online this year. It's vastly improved (still needs some work but highly playable now where before it was impossible). I am in 2 online leagues which have been a blast. And my Diamond Dynasty team is killing it.

I have had some amazing luck with packs, so I was able to work the market and flip cards big time to build out my team.

Of course I am also playing my offline franchises (2014 yankees year 2 and 1987 Yankees year 1) and classic season replay ( Pirates 1991 season replay) from MLB 14 which I caarried over. Year to year saves are brilliant.

MLB The Show 15 is the best sports game ever made bar none.

That is disappointing to a gamer like me. Sounds like Skyrim, awesome game on many levels but most of the story lines are pretty meh.

Gamespot gave it a 10. I read somewhere that they have handed out less than 10 perfect scores ever.

Witcher 3 getting pretty stellar reviews. I have a family vacation coming up at the end of the month, so I'm not starting any new games before I get back anyway. Looks like this will be on deck though.
Yeah, those review scores are pretty terrific. I just wrapped up Mass Effect over the weekend and am about an hour into Crysis, but I think the first Witcher will jump to the top of my next-up list.
preordered from Gamestop. I usually don't do that, but had some credit there, etc.

Really juiced for this one.
i'll probably hold off as usual because I'm cheap, but when I get ready to play this, I think I'm getting a whole new PC to be able to just kill this one. I'm really excited.

That's pretty much me.

Just started playing Crusader Kings 2. With very little experience playing these games and not being used to PC games I am completely lost.
It's probably one of the more complex computer games you'll ever play, it's almost more of a history simulator than a game. You definitely can't just jump into it, some reading is required.

The Crusader Kings II wiki has some good guides to get you started and some in depth write ups about the important game concepts. This other wikia also has some good stuff (the how to lose page is funny and accurate). The game forum has tons of useful threads in it, you'll probably want to do a search for what you need as a lot of the best information is several years old. There are also lots of play through videos on youtube, but I've never watched them.

I know it seems daunting, but it's worth learning if you like extremely detailed games that allow you control the minutia of your world and getting your machiavelli on.

Are historical teams included in the game, or do you have to do a roster download from the internest or something? If included on the game, how many choices are there?

I am the opposite. I typically don't enjoy the main story lines in these games but love everything else.

I hope this is one of those games you can leave the main story/endless cut scenes behind while you get a 150 hours out of side stuff.

They are claiming at least 200 hours worth of content.

I am not saying it's a bad thing but one of the consequences of open world games like Fallout or Elder Scrolls is they seem to sacrifice story telling quality in favor of size of the playground. Games like The Witcher 1 & 2 or the Mass Effect series, while not open world tell amazing stories. I like both types but favor the latter.

No they are all in the vault created by The Show community. Pretty amazing roster makers too. I DL a ton of amazing rosters on 14...created master season files for all of them and carried them over to 15.

But already on the 15 vault....a lot are being ported over. Ones you will find in the 15 vault are:

1987 full 90 man (including all minor league players) roster for use in franchise mode

1984 25 man

1978 25 man

1975 25 man

1967 25 man

1987 25 man

1988 25 man

Yeah, but I can deal with that. I have yet to play an Elder Scrolls game that had a compelling main story, but I still more than got my money's worth out of them. I can have fun wandering around, doing side quests.

Edit: I agree with your most recent post.

I liked the stories in both Skyrim and Fallout. Sure I ignored them when it suited me but I still thought they were good stories all in all. Maybe I am easily entertained.

I agree but I will say that this is not a good game to play while drinking. I put a hole in the wall of my living room after swinging at one too many pitches that I KNEW were balls. :irish:

Additional note, PS4 controllers are not as sturdy as their PS2 cousins. :bag:

But this game is pretty awesome. I'm the starting DH for Tampa Bay in Road to the Show which is pretty neat after crushing a half season at AA.

To me that's the best possible review. May have to seriously consider this as I get old waiting for the next Fallout.
I'm not buying a next-gen system until Fallout 4 comes out.

I just bought an decent Alienware rig back in November and it barely matches the requirements.

It has the recommended specs for graphics and memory (exceeds memory by a lot), but the minimum CPU is an i-5 2500K 3.3Ghz. My rig has an i-5 4460 3.2 Ghz.

Damn. I'm sure it'd run, but I have a feeling the framerate would suffer.

I'm stuck in Departed - cleared out the first round of zombies and met up with the chick. Got to the tower or whatever where they find a map and Drake has to go to the engine room to power the place. Got down there and I am just stuck. Game mechanics on aiming still elude me in some respects and those things are tough mothers. So putting that down for awhile and started....

.... God of War.....

Played through fairly quickly and just got the point where Aries is attacking Athens. Solid gameplay. Love the story. I'm a sucker for mythology stuff anyway. The fighting is more button mash for me then I guess most gamers are but that's just because I don't play these types of games fairly often. Not quite sure why this game series is considered so awesomely great though. It's ok. Better than above average I guess. But it's not so compelling to me that I would worship the title that much. Although I have to admit that I truly enjoy - probably too much - the fight sequences where you can grab the enemy and stab them repeatedly to death. That's fun. The puzzle aspect is challenging yet it is attainable so that's good. I've had to hit the Youtube's twice to find out what I'm doing. So I'll give it a solid B right now and I doubt it goes lower.

I also find myself putting Midnight Club Los Angeles in the system and playing for a little bit. I enjoy the racing game aspect but I still suck at it. Was always my weakness in GTA games as well. I was a big fan of the Vice City glitch that let you blow up the race car opponents right before the start of the race. No such glitch here. I will get a race done, usually lose from a last second wreck, get frustrated and turn it off to go back to a game where I get to kill stuff.

Is the PS3 version worth getting? I'm not in the market for a new system at this point, but every time I see you guys post about this game I consider jumping in the car to go buy it immediately.

Outside of some diminished graphics and a likely smaller online community, I don't think anything in the gameplay itself would be affected.

IGN is live playing W3 right. Looks pretty good so far. Not really doing any story spoilers, just adventuring around, showing off the game.

Might be the game that forces me to go next-gen. But it all depends on whether my PC will handle it. Fallout 4, that is.

Anybody paying attention to Joe Montana Football 16? Waiting for E3 to see if it will be a One exclusive. That would be enough for me to get a One. I don't even need the NFL license. I just need great gameplay. Something that bests Madden. If it does turn out that 2K is somehow involved I know the gameplay will be there.

I'd buy a new gaming PC if that what it took for Fallout 4. Anyway, Pre-ordered W3 - goodbye weekend. :ninja:

Don't aim at those guys. You're supposed to hip-fire against them.

I thought you would all like to know that I am starting The Witcher tonight (first one). I'll give a detailed summary each day of my journey.

I had started Crysis a couple days ago and it's flat awesome but after I completed one of the missions (the screen even told me so) it didn't give me the next. So now I'm just wandering around with nothing to do. I'm only an hour or so in so I'll just start again later.

Been trying to play Crusader Kings 2 but it has crashed 3 out of 3 times that I've played it.

The game is good but very unclear. I was a good way into the tutorial when it crashed and haven't went back to the tutorial yet. What I like about the game is I think it's a perfect in between game. Any down time between the big games I'm excited for this will go in.

Make sure to keep your wife exceedingly happy if she has a high intrigue score. Particularly if she's also your spymaster. Be really judicious about "removing" people via plots/purchase - the reputation hit never goes away if you get found out.

Don't grant land to your kids until you've gotten them married. They make really bad choices if left to their own devices (which you of course end up having to deal with later).

If you're a feudal lord (basically anything but a merchant), build lots of cities in your core counties and upgrade their tax generating buildings.

Can't help you with the crashing. I haven't run into that. Does the game work o.k. outside the tutorials?

It works really good but for me the game ends when it freezes the computer. I've started the learning scenario twice and the tutorials once. It's been good with saves and going in and out but each of the three trys has been ended by the game freezing. I think it has to do with not having Steam setup properly. I tinker with some stuff and get it straightened out.

I'm going to give it another shot later tonight. I'm just going to start a regular game and see how it goes. The best moment so far was I had a suspicion that a vassal was up to something, so I sent in my spy master. He was plotting with my brother to have rumors spread about me. I told him to end the plot. He raised an army and started attacking our own people. I crushed him, threw him in jail and executed him. Felt good.

Yeah, family can be a real ##### in this game. I've even had my own kids try to get tough on me a couple of times - look junior, you're a craven genetic moron and your brother is a genius grey eminence, of course I'm not giving you any holdings. Why can't they just be o.k. with that?

Fixed my issue on Crysis so back to that for now. Awesome game.

I think I need to fix my camera angle on Witcher. It's an isometric view that for some reason is really far away. The guys are tiny.

Yeah you can change views to standard 3rd person over the shoulder, I never liked it in the isometric view either.

Playing Neverwinter, since Halo 4 Campaign on MCC is pretty much impossible to play, with all of the software bugs. Figured I'd give the free NW a go, and it's not too bad, typical MMO but entertaining enough.
