Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (11 Viewers)

I dunno guys. Arkham Knight got glowing reviews. Anyway, Id let you know my opinion of it wasnt for this 3.5 GB patch I have to download which it says will take 4 hours. Talk about disappointment.
My son had his buddy over to spend the night. He had pre-ordered the game and the plan was going to be to go pick it up at midnight take it home and him and his buddy would play it all night.Got it home, he was all excited... until we had to download the patch. 6 hours. Disappointed he and his friend went to bed.

I was pretty bummed for him.
yep same thing for me except Im much older lol. I was all excited to play and wasnt able to play at all last night. So annoying.
Another point in favor of digital pre-order....I ordered from the xbox store and no patches necessary. Guessing that it downloaded all necessary patches as soon as it was available. I started yesterday morning at 6:45am.
both definitely have their positives and negatives. One negatives is don't you need a ton of HDD space?
Added a 2TB external so I am good.

Why are the downloads taking so long? I don't think ive ever waited longer then an hour to download entire games.

When I bought a new 360 with a 500GB HDD I installed over 300 GB of previously downloaded games in one evening.

Is this a PSN problem?
It doesn't help when you have thousands of users all trying to download the same file at the same time.
I'm not interested in getting in a heated debate over this but thousands of users isn't a lot. These very slow download times have been talked about for years now and it seems to always be with the PSN.
Heated? Sorry I didn't mean to come across as angry.
:lmao:

I didn't mean to imply that you did. I just don't like arguing with my fellow video game nerds i guess.

Excited about the Rare Replay. Have thought many times about buying old systems to play classic games, and Conker's is easily in my top 5-10 ever. Be nice if they could take the original split screen multiplayer like Beach and make it online. Same thing with Perfect Dark. Too bad the licensing for Goldeneye is all jacked up.

Some friends here at work have the Fallout Shelter mobile game. One has never played Fallout but he is obsessed with the mobile game. Think we've got a new convert! Actually debating buying an old ipad or something just to get my Fallout fix. I'm on Android and that version won't be out for months.

Goldeneye was ported to last gen systems a few years ago. It didn't go so well. It was an overrated game anyway. I think people finally realized it.

The fallout iPad game is ok. After about 20 minutes, it's basically just waiting and collecting resources/breeding new inhabitants.

There's not really any fighting (raiders will break in, but they get shot down quickly). I'm hoping in an update we get some deathclaws.

how old of an iPad? I have an iPad 2 and it won't run. crashes about 2 minutes after the loading screen. :sadbanana:

Arkham game is amazing. No way they can stop making these. Must make a mint for the company. Maybe they'll drop the Arkham angle but I imagine there is another batman game by 2018.

Maybe I'll try it. I loved Arkham Asylum - thought it was phenomenal. Honestly didn't like Arkham City that much though. It was a bit of a chore for me to finish.

I've loved them all. Even the non-rocksteady version. Can't get enough of them.

:goodposting:

Arkham Asylum was perfect. Just the right amount of stealth and well executed throughout. Arkham City lost its charm by simply super sizing the first game. Bigger for the sake of being bigger is not always a good thing if its just more of the same.

PC version of Arkham Knight is getting horrible reviews. I'll wait until everything is patched and the kinks are all worked out.

Im shocked it hasn't gone into the other superheros.
I don't think it translates well. BMan is basically a ninja with kick ### gear. He can be in real mortal danger fighting a group of 20 thugs so it gives it a sense of realism. Put Sups or Green Lantern in one of these and they would splat low level thugs with an eye blink and roll through most bosses with ease and no need for stealth at all. BMan is perfect for that balance of real danger and awesome ability that makes a video game fun.

Imo the problem with the game isnt the Batmobile. Its a blast to drive. Its the stupid controls. I keep falling off rooves in one of the first missions and its driving me nuts

I'm waiting till Steam winter Sale at least. Should be $25 by then.
This past sale wasn't very impressive. Many of the deals were worse than previous offerings (yeah, and I still bit on a couple of them). I still think calling the GTA V "deal" for same as full price a joke. I'm looking ahead to Fallout 4 and Star Wars Battlefront now. Until then, I continue working my backlog and playing the games I did buy during the sale.

By the way, I think it's cool that the thread began by talking about Arkham Asylum and now we're talking about Arkham Knight. Nice bookend going on.

Way into The Witcher right now. Can't remember having this much fun in a while.

I was trying to explain it to a friend of mine and he asked me if it's like Skyrim. He said he played Skyrim for months, loved it, but is not interested in playing another game similar to it.

I could not answer since I've had never played Skyrim. Can any of you guys chime in on this?

It's similar but much more story driven and there isn't quite as much random stuff to do.

I agree wholeheartedly and actually thought about it for a bit after I posted that. The combat engine is pretty phenomenal, though. Somebody will find a way to copy it. Id be interested in seeing it in another setting.

I was super impressed by the Steam sales either. I haven't pre-ordered Battlefront, but I will be. The "cons" I read online (that's its not like the older Battlefront games, and it's more like Battlefield) are what make me want it even more.

Shadow of Mordor basically copied it

Angry Joe said he got to play a fair bit of it and that the flying mechanics were downright terrible and that the Hoth map is too small. I hope it's better for full release.

They just suspended sales on the pc. Not sure I've seen that before.
Not for a major AAA-title, I haven't.
That's a major "we ####ed up" kind of move.
Read somewhere that they outsourced the PC version to 12 guys. Not even joking.

This might be the fanboy in me talking, but if the flying mechanics weren't that great, it wouldn't even be a deal-breaker to me with how awesome the ground combat looks. Flying was TERRIBLE in the original two games, and fans found a way to learn the terrible controls and have fun. It might not have the perfectly polished multiplayer balance that a Halo or COD game might have, but it will be a blast for Star Wars fans. And now that I think about it, flying always sucked balls in Halo games too. Also, saying the Hoth map is too small...talk about a nitpick. Who knows how long he had with the game, but every multiplayer shooter has small maps and big maps.

Anyone know if this is confirmed to be an online-only game? Or will there be split-screen local play with bots like the originals? I don't have high hopes for that since Battlefield isn't split screen (as opposed to COD, which is).

Both the PS4 & XB1 store the same amount (full game) on the hard drive regardless of disc or digital download. The only purpose the disc copy of the game serves is DRM and the ability to sell it.

I hate the Batmobile controls! R2 is acceleration, like most driving games. But unlike most driving games, L2 is not braking! I can't get used to that, and it makes maneuvering the thing really difficult.

Not just the controls but the handling is crazy as well.

Those weren't ports at all, it was a "reimagining" of the original game because of the legal issues. They built a whole new game and they tried to "update" the style for modern audiences and screwed it all up. About the only thing in common was the name and source movie.

Change the battle mode toggle to ON in the options. Then L2 becomes braking!

I could never fly in battlefield either. On more than one occasion I've had people load up on my chopper for me to go straight up, flip it somehow, and then crash. Lots of angry messages! They thought I was just being a #####, but I really just wanted to try and fly the chopper.

Ori and the Blind Forest - Very visually stunning game, definitely has a Hayao Miazaki feel to it. The story telling is also very interesting. Combat and movement mechanics are great too. However some of the levels are just incredibly frustrating. I must have died 50-75 times just trying to climb (and escape from) that damn water tree.

I think it was confirmed that there would be a bots mode. I don't recall where I read that. The size of Hoth was a big deal when talking about flying. On the ground, it's not a big deal, but when you have to turn around after a couple of seconds so you don't go out of bounds, it's a huge deal. But this was also a E3 demo, so it's possible that things will change before November.

I never bothered to learn to fly in Battlefield either. I tried one of the choppers on the test range in BF4 a few times, and then just said #### it an never came back. I'd rather play as infantry anyway.

Gamestop DOES have a trade in deal for the XB1 right now. $150 for either a PS3 or XBOX360.

Plus, you get the free game of your choice that MSFT is offering.
