Some of the levels on Halo CE are famous for their repetition. The other Halos don't have this issue.

I don't know how long ago you played it, but if it was when it first came out, you didn't find the gameplay far different than almost any other shooter? Just the fact that you couldn't carry ten weapons and had a regenerating shield were huge, huge differences. Then I realized I was still using the pistol near the end, and recalling that was unusual - until then, most shooters would gradually up the gun power, making your first weapons useless by midgame.

I thought the gameplay was awesome, but that's a time period thing too, so if your college experience was years after the initial launch, I could see you not being impressed w/ the gameplay (although I just played a few hours of split screen Halo 1 this past weekend, and it's still a blast).

oh yea, I agree with that - it's fairly generic today. Straightforward slaughter, not much in the way of "how do I do that / let's take this alternate route / etc."

Goldeneye did it first, but Halo was the first console FPS that had great controls. Beyond that, it really is overrated in my eyes. Same with Goldeneye.

Yeah, like I said, the game play really is good. Really good. And the remastered graphics are amazing.

I'm just late to the party so I'm left with a bit of "that's it?" feeling for the story.

Played a ton of split screen co-op with my BIL from Halo 1 through 3. Good times.

ETA the music really is well done. Does a great job setting the tone beginning to end. Right up there with Diablo soundtracks in terms of great.

My roommate in college set up something called XConnect or something and we could play others just like Xbox live. 2v2 capture the flag on blood gulch took up a lot of time my junior year.

Yep I can see that. My last play through of Halo: CE was about 5 years ago. Without the nostalgia, I probably wouldn't like it now.

8v8 capture the flag on Sidewinder was so epic when I was in college.

If any of you have Portal 2 on Steam, I recommend getting Portal Stories: Mel. It's a fan made campaign that's free to download if you own Portal 2. You don't have to have Portal 2 installed to play it.

5 chapters. The first chapter is fairly short and you don't do much, but the puzzles start in Chapter 2. There's a bit of a story, plus different voice actors and new music.

IMO, the puzzles are a lot more difficult then Portal 2.

OMG, you weren't kidding about the puzzles being more difficult. I have to admit that I got so frustrated that I've had to look up hints to continue in a couple of areas. It's not so cut and dry. They did a very nice job on the game, but I miss having GlaDoS berating me. I'm only on Chapter 4, so I'm not quite finished yet.

After this it is on to The Evil Within and I am still taking my time enjoying Dying Light.

But you will really enjoy Wolfenstein. It is very smooth, cool story and characters. Well made FPS. If you like WWII lore and killing Nazi's....go grab it for 20 bucks.

Far Cry 4 was great, will take a look at the Dishonored release for XB1 as well, that looked interesting.

Don't know whether it's just not my style or I've become a big ##### in my old age and don't like to be scared but bring myself to spring for Evil Within, Dying Light type games in case I play it for a couple of hours and never want to go back.

The coop campaigns in 3 & 4 are four person coop and can be solid if you have some people to play with. It's not like Borderlands where the storyline can be enjoyable solo or has the rpg elements. It's straight point shoot repeat. If you grew up with the games it brings the nostalgia ala the Gears series for me but the campaigns can be meh for newcomers. I enjoy them as they are a coop game that I can play with my girlfriend and out of town friends as a vehicle to chat away while mindlessly gaming. The games shine in multiplayer(well used to) although imo Halo 2 had the best multiplayer of the series where the new ones are more gimmicks. This is all imo so take the mileage as you see. Although Halo 5 beta was said to have a much better multiplayer even before changes are made for the final version.

Nope its normal. Let's be honest you've probably played every type of game there is for what the last 20 years. I go up and down

Don't get me wrong I still play but very rarely jump on for long periods if at all. I have too much else going on.

Or I'll play a game for 3 straight weeks and that's it. I still get that rare game I'm all in on but it's not often.

Dying light is still collecting dust.

I was never a big RPG type gamer but I don't even have gold anymore. I had a blast playing with ORC on Evolve but that seemed to die quickly also.

I miss the days of logging in and playing with 6 to 8 people "I know" only and no randoms.

Not me. I have a very high need for "alone time," and gaming is a big part of my escapism portfolio.

Probably 95%+ of my gaming time is single-player though, so if something comes up around the house it's easy for me to pause the game and come back to it later. Even in MP games, I'm often playing with randoms and can just drop out. I can see where it's tougher to do that if you're playing with friends or in a clan.

Unfortunately no.

Wolfenstein is the closet to a WWII theme I have found in years. But it is not a war game per se. It's a post WWII story/FPS where the Nazi's won.

Pretty freaking cool story and vibe and a lot of fun. Awesome controls, easy to pick up and play. Lot's of stealth elements as well. Can't say enough great things about it.

Give it a couple years. They really over saturated that genre in he 2000's. It got to the point that people would groan when a new one was announced. People will grow tired of the current futuristic run and pine for the simpler days soon. Then a new wave of nostalgia driven WW2 games will come out.

Garden Warfare was on sale for really cheap last week, though. I missed out on it, though. I would've gotten it for the 360. The population on PC side is very small.

I think they should stay away from the comics/TV series and stick to creating their own story.

now that I picked up my Fallout: New Vegas game again, I decided to do the "Dead Money" DLC. holy hell, what an ugly mess this is! does anyone actually enjoy this DLC?! you're basically going back and forth in a city maze, devoid of any interesting colors, short on resources, littered with stupid traps and many diverse ways to die. and I guess the only thing you really get out of this is a lot of money...which I've already got!

so now instead of trying to scavenge for anything cool, I'm going to try and just speed through this turd-colored nightmare and get back to the wasteland. Ed-E is waiting for me.

I stopped playing when I started that DLC. It really ruined NV for me.

now that I picked up my Fallout: New Vegas game again, I decided to do the "Dead Money" DLC. holy hell, what an ugly mess this is! does anyone actually enjoy this DLC?! you're basically going back and forth in a city maze, devoid of any interesting colors, short on resources, littered with stupid traps and many diverse ways to die. and I guess the only thing you really get out of this is a lot of money...which I've already got!

so now instead of trying to scavenge for anything cool, I'm going to try and just speed through this turd-colored nightmare and get back to the wasteland. Ed-E is waiting for me.

I stopped playing when I started that DLC. It really ruined NV for me.

I'm only halfway through it, but so far it may be the worst DLC I've ever played.

It's horrid. I fought my way through it just to be done. Not playing it ever again. It almost ruined NV for me.

I know for at least a decade, and ending a few years ago, there was a huge run on WWII (FPS's) themed games. Has there been any made in the last year or two that are good, with updated graphics etc...?

I wish. It was all they made then nothing. I've been reduced to playing battlefield 1943 online which came out several years ago.

Not WWII but BBC2: Vietnam still to this day is my favorite shooter and feels great whenever I log back into it.
